Worship your Lord - Quran Chapter 2-21 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–40)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-21 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–40)-درس قرآن

 Worship your Lord

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

21.  O mankind! Worship your Lord, Who hath created you and those before you, so that ye may ward off (evil).
21. Yaaa-‘ayyu-han-naasu’-buduu Rabba-kumullazii, khalaqa-kum  wallaziina min qablikum  la-‘allakum tattaquun.

Lesson

La-‘allakum – (so that ye), in Arabic language; the word la-‘alla is used at such occasions, where there is a strong hope of coming out the result of any work.

Tattaquun - You may ward off (evil). The words muttaqii, tattaquun and taqwaa etc. have been derived from the same origin. Full explanation of this word has passed in lessons # 17. Briefly speaking; it aims that your habit of living with care and having fear of God in your hearts may become strong. It is called Abstinence.

‘An-naasu – (the mankind, the people), it is the first time in Holy Qur’aan that God Almighty has demanded in this verse and addressed the human beings with the words “O mankind”. As if, He has claimed from the entire mankind to be worshippers of Him.

‘U’-buduu – (Worship, pray), this word has come out from the word ‘ibaadat, origin of which is ‘abda. it aims “obeying the Commandments of God with humility and respectfully, which is called worship and obedience”. Prayer, Fasting, Zakaat (paying the poor-due), and Pilgrimage are vital parts of worship but the worship does not end on only these parts. It belongs to the entire life.

In the beginning of this Surah, good manners of Muttaqii (the pious) were explained and it was described that Holy Qur’aan is Guidance for those people who fear God Almighty in their hearts. After that, condition of Infidels was narrated and then circumstances of the Hypocrites were made obvious. Now the entire Human Beings are being addressed, because after the mention of above three kinds of mankind, indeed; fondness of becoming a Sober should have been grown in the individual. So now, the root path of fearing God is being manifested.

Here; calling the entire people, it has been described that the actual foundation of all Orders and Fidelity of Islam is to recognize the Lord. First purpose of creating the mankind is that he should seek his Lord, recognize Him from His open Revelations and he should worship only Him, and ask Him for success in this world and on the Day of Resurrection, because He created the mankind, brought him up in every era and taught the human being the ways of promotion according to own abilities.

The first Sign of the Lord is that He created you and all of them who have expired before you. Only from this acquaintance, the path of fearing from God opens. There is no personal benefit of God by worshiping Him. But the mankind has a lot of advantages from it. The worship removes distress of fancies of the human being. And he gets opportunity to draw his attention towards the realities.

Warning for Hypocrites - Quran Chapter 2-20b (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–39)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-20b (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–39)-درس قرآن

 Warning for Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
Stage – 1, Verse – 20a of 286, Section – 2 of 40 (Part - 1)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

20b.  If Allah willed, He could destroy their hearing and their sight. Lo! Allah is able to do all things.
20b.  Wa law shaaa-‘Allaahu  lazahaba bisam-‘ihim wa’absaarihim.  ‘InnAllaaha ‘alaa kulli shay-‘in- Qadiir.

Lesson

Explanation regarding Hypocrites had begun with effect from the beginning of this Section, which ends here. God Almighty bestowed to the mankind the powers of hearing and looking. But the Hypocrites applied these powers to reap casual advantages of the world and to fulfill their sensual wishes. They closed their ears and eyes completely from looking the Signs of God and hearing the Voice of the Truth. They misused these powers instead of using them for the right purpose.

Now God Almighty warns them that if they will not abstain from this wrong attitude, then these powers will be snatched from them. Although the Hypocrites close their eyes from looking at the glare of lightening due to fear of death; and their eyes are dazzled, they cram their fingers into their ears and try to be saved from hearing the thunder-bolt of lightning and the death. God Almighty may snatch their sight and hearing power at any time whether they try how much to save themselves.

All powers of thinking, hearing and looking have been given to the mankind by God Almighty with His blessing, but when he does not use them according to the Divine Law, then he would have to fear every time that lest Allah Almighty snatch them not. If He delays in snatching for some time, then the mankind should not be fearless because punishment may be delayed by Him. It is possible that He has delayed intentionally or it is due to His kindness.

If any person has eyes and ears, even then, without the Will and Intention of God Almighty, both things cannot become able to work. He can forfeit the mankind from using the powers of the organs, if He desire. Having eyes he may not see, having ears he may not hear and it is not out of His Power. He has established rules, time and causes for management of this world. He can finish at once the entire Infidels, Hypocrites and Deniers; but due to prescribed rules, they get delay; so that, they refrain from wickedness. Despite it, if they do not shun, His wrath comes upon them in such a way that even they would have not ever thought. So, this result happened in mostly cases of Hypocrites.

Repugnance of the Hypocrites - Quran Chapter 2-20a (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–38)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-20a (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–38)-درس قرآن

 Repugnance of the Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
Stage – 1, Verse – 20a of 286, Section – 2 of 40 (Part - 1)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

20a.  The lightening almost snatched away their sight from them. As often as it flasheth forth for them they walk therein, and when it darkeneth against them they stand still.
20a.  Yakaadul-barqu yakhtafu ‘absaarahum. Kullammaaa ‘azaaa-‘a lahum- mashaw fiihi, wa ‘izaaa ‘azlama ‘alayhim qaamuu.

Lesson

Yakhtafu – {Snatch away, take (the sight) suddenly away}. Here it means ‘being dazzled of the eyes’ that is to say; prevalence, power and magnificence of Islam are sufficient to dazzle their eyes and inspire with awe over their hearts.

Condition of the second kind of Hypocrites has been discussed in this verse with more explanation and detail. In the previous verse, instance of ‘the rain’ was given to disclose their nature that they pounce towards their benefits. But if they would have to do some labor or bear some loss then they get rid of the situation.

The rain becomes cause of many advantages for the mankind. But when they look thunder-bolt of clouds and glare of lightening in it, then they cram their fingers into their ears and try to be saved from it and deny totally from the advantages of the rain. They do not understand that if someone has to sacrifice something or he has to suffer from some trial for the cause of betterment and prosperity, he should not fear from it.

When the Hypocrites observe that Islam is succeeding and getting victories; their feet begin to move towards Islam. Actually their hearts do not want to search the truth. Only due to fear and glory of Islam, they incline towards it. And when they observe that the Muslims have been suffering from difficulties and trials; then they go in the state of stopping suddenly because of refusal and uncertainty. And their feet stop moving towards Islam. As though, like the lightening of the clouds, when the Light of Islam is manifested on them, they embrace Islam, continue standing and sitting with the Muslims, and declare that they are believers. But as soon as, there is darkness, that is to say; they begin to suffer from difficulties and calamities, then they leave their companionship, and return back to the infidelity.

From it, this fact is obvious that comfort and calamity exist collectively always. If we sacrifice our lives, wealth and children in the Way of Allah Almighty; then surely; the success and the betterment will be our fate as the retribution of the sacrifice. This behavior is incorrect at all that we run behind our advantages, but when the time of trial comes, we keep ourselves back. Allah Almighty does not like this.

Feebleness of the Hypocrites - Quran Chapter 2-19b (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–37)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-19b (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–37)-درس قرآن

 Feebleness of the Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

19b.  And Allah encompasseth the disbelievers (in His guidance).
19b.  Wallaahu muhiitum-bil-kaafiriin.

Lesson

Muhiitun – (Encompassed, circumscribed). This word has been derived from ‘ahaatah, which means “to surround an object”. Here it means that God has circumscribed the Infidels from every aspect with His Knowledge, His Nature and His Divinity.

As the both kinds of Hypocrites have been discussed earlier, who are:

1.    Those people who are big enemies of Islam spiritually but apparently they say themselves ‘believers’ and claim that they are patrons of the Muslims.

2.    The people who are naturally weak by temperament, cowardice and low-courageous. They accept the impression of that assembly which they attend. If they sit with Muslims, listen to their preaching and invitation, look their dignity and success, then being terrified they enter into Islam. But when they face any trial or difficulty, then they return towards the infidelity. They are afraid of hardship and death.

It has been described at the end of this verse that Allah Almighty has however encompassed these Hypocrites, they run away from Islam only for the sake of saving themselves from difficulties and death. But God Almighty has complete power and dignity over them. So how can they protect themselves from the death? Islam claims from them that they should give up carnal pleasures and false desires. They should offer their wealth and lives in the path of God, and bear difficulties and calamities.

They do not want to hear the verses of Agony and God’s wrath. And they go away being very inattentively but cannot be saved from the grip of God. Trying to protect themselves from the Hold of Omnipotent is proof of only ignorance and stupidity. God Almighty gives them only delay and produces the opportunities to understand. When their respite will end, then no power of the world and any of their best friends will be able to save them from the fury of God. He knows their all activities including the secrets, which they have hidden in their hearts and He encompasses them having Omnipotence. He has power to give them any punishment, any time as He desire.

As the rain contains lightening, glaze and thunder-bolt, like this hardness, labor, poverty and difficulties can be in Islam for trial, but as its resultant, there is success in the both worlds i.e. this life and on the Day of Resurrection. So mankind should not run away from Islam due to fear of these temporary calamities. Moreover, he should stand firm on it. If a mankind wishes to run away from the calamities, he cannot be saved.

2nd Likeness of Hypocrites - Quran Chapter 2-19a (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–36)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-19a (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–36)-درس قرآن

 2nd Likeness of Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

19a.  Or like a rainstorm from the sky, wherein is darkness, thunder and the flash of lightning. They thrust their fingers in their ears by reason of the thunder-claps, for fear of death.
19a.  ‘Aw kasayyi-bim-minas-samaaa-‘i  fiihi zulumaatunw- wa ra’-dunw- wa barq. Yaj-‘aluuna ’asaabi-‘ahum fiii  ‘aa-zaani-him- minas-sawaa-‘iqi ha-zaral-mawt.

Lesson

Kasayyi-bin – (Like a rainstorm), this word has come out from suub, which means “cloud or coming down of the rain”.

As-samaaa-‘i – (The skies), it has been derived from samu, which means “elevation, exaltation”. Every such thing which is at height whether that is clouds or skies, are included in it.

As we have discussed in a previous lesson that there are two kinds of hypocrites, first type of the people, who are severe enemies of Islam heartily but apparently they claim that they are Muslims. Their likeness has passed in lesson # 34.

In this verse, second type of hypocrites is being explained. They neither enter in Islam wholeheartedly and nor give it up; due to their weak temperament. But they remain immersed in doubt and perplexity, and can’t decide altogether. Likeness of this kind of hypocrites is given with heavy rains. There are uncountable benefits in it. Barren land becomes fertile, crops begin to bloom, canals and streamlets begin to flow. But along with it, there is thunder of clouds; which causes trembling of the hearts, and the flash of lightening also, which causes the eyes to be purblind. Very dark darkness spreads over everywhere. But still; despite these happenings, none is enemy of the rains.

Islam also came entirely with blessing like rains but there are some difficulties and restrictions too with it like prayer, fasting, paying the poor-due (Zakaah), pilgrimage, try and strive (Jihad) and other commands of Allah Almighty. The Hypocrites neglect and fear from these restrictions.

Whenever the Hypocrites used to see advantages of Islam, they ran towards it but when the time came to sacrifice, they turned back. Would that they had abandoned their doubts, adopted one way and connected with Islam.

Result of Hypocrisy - Quran Chapter 2-18 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–35)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-18 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–35)-درس قرآن

Result of Hypocrisy

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

18.    Deaf, dumb and blind,
and they return not.
18.   Summum-  bukmun ‘umyun  fahum  laa  yarji-‘uun.

Lesson

Summun – (Deaf; hard of hearing; inattentive). Singular of this word is ‘asam, which means “a deaf”. Although, the Hypocrites were not deaf apparently, but they were called deaf, because, they used to hear the true advice of Islam, but reject it. They listened and showed that they have not listened; as if they were deaf and did not listen.

Bukmun – (Dumb; speechless; mute). This word is singular of ‘abkum, which means a dumb. Although they had tongues but turned away from asking the true advice and did not accept the Truth, as though they were dumb and had not tongue in their mouths.

‘Umyun -    (Blind; unable to see) (plural of Aa’-maa). It means blind people. They were called blind because, having their eyes; they had seen the Signs of Allah Almighty but didn’t accept.

In this verse; the End of the deeds of hypocrites has been explained. Notwithstanding; after appearing the Light of Islam, they still adopted the darkness of infidelity. Due to worldly benefits, personal desires and carnal wishes, they didn’t distinguish among good and bad. As according to the natural rule, if the hand is put in fire, it burns, similarly, because of their perversity and intentionally depravity, their entire capabilities of recognizing the Truth were lost.  Infidelity came over them. They were deprived of the Light of Islam. Allah Almighty snatched the Light because of their evil deeds and they began to go astray in darkness.

It was compulsory result of distinguishing not between good and bad that, having ears they were unable to hear the Voice of the Truth. Their tongues became dumb due to asking not about the right path from someone. Their eyes became blind due to looking not the Light of Islam. And Revelations of God Almighty didn’t affect them.

There are three apparent ways of acquiring knowledge: ear, tongue and eye. Sometime a man obtains knowledge of some things by listening, sometime by asking from someone and sometimes he looks other things with his eyes. But a hypocrite loses his these three powers due to his obstinacy and stubbornness. And then, neither he hears the sound of any Guide, nor asks about true knowledge and nor gets any influence by observing the Signs of the Truth. And now there is no hope of his returning from infidelity to Islam or from darkness to the Light.

1st likeness of Hypocrites - Quran Chapter 2-17 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–34)-درس قرآن

Quran Chaptr 2-17 (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–34)-درس قرآن

1st likeness of Hypocrites

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

17.   Their likeness is as the likeness of one who kindleth fire, and when it sheddeth its light around him Allah taketh away their light and leaveth them in darkness, where they cannot see.
17.   Masaluhum  kamasa-lillazistaw qada naaraa. Falammaaa  ‘azaaa-’at  maa hawlahuu  zahabAllaahu  bi-nuurihim  wa  tarakahum fii zulumaatil-laa  yubsiruun.

Lesson

Masaluhum – (Their likeness). Likeness means such an old famous event which corresponds to any present event and due to its fame, the people may understand it quickly and it becomes helpful also for explanation of the present event.

Zulumaat  - (darkness), this word is plural of zulmat.

During the times of Holy Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), there were two kinds of Hypocrites:

·       Those, who were the vital enemies of Islam, but they used to claim verbally that they were supporters and protecting friends of the Muslims.

·       Those Hypocrites, who were weak due to their temperament and were neither absolutely supporters of Islam, nor they opposed Islam. In which side they used to find their advantage, turned themselves to that direction.

Holy Quran has give likenesses of these both kinds of hypocrites. In this verse, likeness of first kind of hypocrites is being explained.

Likeness of these people is like a man, who lit the fire in the darkness of the night. From the light of that fire, all things around him became bright and he became able to recognize the difference among profitable and harmful things. But suddenly, God Almighty snatched his eye-sight. And now he cannot see anything while surroundings of him are bright. Just like blinds, he is wandering hither and thither and cannot reap advantage of the Brightness.

This likeness is fit on the Hypocrites. Before Islam, they were lying in the darkness of the infidelity; there was no distinction between good and bad for them. Then the Candle of Islam was enlightened and they began to reap advantage from it, but suddenly, all opportunities, which they were availing due to Islam, were snatched. Their original face came before the Muslims. And they did not remain able to deceive the Muslims. Some of them leaned towards evil by giving up the Truth at their own and some were forfeited to get advantage from the Light of Islam due to their personal means. The light of Islam became useless for them in these three conditions and the darkness spread everywhere.
