God’s Caliph

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Commentary

Wa  ‘iz  qaala  Rabbuka lil-Malaaa-‘ikati – “Innii jaa-‘ilun fil-‘arzi  KHALIIFAH– translation and a short explanation has been described in the previous lesson. Now we have to discuss: What is meaning of Caliphate, and how the mankind is vicegerent of Allah Almighty?

God Almighty is The Creator and Owner of this world. He owns all good attributes. Neither we can count His attributes and nor His works. He has put in the clay of human being some qualities little by little from His attributes, so that he may demonstrate His attributes after coming in the world, elevate His name and prove with his word and deed that he is really Viceroy and Deputy of God Almighty.

If God is Merciful then the human being should be kind too, not only upon his kinsfolk but also over the entire living creatures. It has come in the Sayings of Allah’s Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam): If you slaughter any animal, have mercy upon it, the slaughtering knife should be sharp-edged, so that the animals’ great artery may cut off immediately and it does not feel much pain later on.

One of the attributes of God is Justice and Equity. It is the duty of human being that he should do justice and equity, equally with all. In this matter, neither he should favor his close relatives and nor the stranger be ignored. Entire people should be dealt with equally.

One name of God is For-Bearer also (Mild). The mankind disobeys Him and he commits countless errors but God delays, takes it with softness, overlooks it and gives time to the evildoer, so that he should repent and change his attitude. It is our duty also that we should produce in ourselves the attribute of mildness. We should treat the people with soft behavior and give them chance if they have wronged, so that they may correct themselves.

In short, the human being should try to grow all those attributes and manners within himself, which are Disposition of God and treat the people as God treats His servants.

If we do not produce God’s attributes in ourselves then we do not deserve to be the Caliph and Vicegerent of God Almighty, and we can never achieve this higher dignity any way, which He has liked for us.

Man’s position

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

30a.  And when thy Lord said unto
the angels: Lo! I am about to place a Viceroy in the earth,
30a.  Wa  ‘iz  qaala  Rabbuka lil-Malaaa-‘ikati – “Innii jaa-ilun fil-‘arzi  KHALIIF-AH,

Commentary

Malaaa-‘ikati (Angels), this word is plural of Malak and has come out from the word “’Alook”. ‘Alook means to deliver the message.
So it aims that Malaaa-‘ikah (best Angels – peace be upon Them) deliver the Messages of God Almighty unto Prophets and Messengers (Peace be upon Them). The Angels are Light and Spiritual Beings. They are chaste and pure from errors and never disobey the Commandments of Allah Almighty. At another place in the Holy Qur-‘aan it has been described: Laa  ya’-suunAllaaha  maa  ‘amara-hum  wa  yaf-‘aluuna  maa  yu’-maruun. (They do not disobey the Commandments of God Almighty and perform only that, for which they are commanded).

KHALIIF-AH – (Viceroy, Caliph, Vicegerent). KhaliifatUllaah is the person, who establishes Government; according to the Divine Law of the religion on the earth. It manifests that which powers and abilities will be given to the human being by Allah Almighty, will be quite correct for establishing the Caliphate of God Almighty.

Lord of the Worlds is He, Who created the earth, the skies and other entire universe. All things of the earth like vegetation, minerals, beasts and animals, mountains, rivers, canals, springs etc. come in this category on one side of this universe, and on the other side, the skies including other all things which have been created in these seven heavens. Allah Almighty knows best about the philosophy of creating all these things of the earth and the heavens.

Why Adam (peace be upon Him) was created? What was the need to make this body of mud (human being)? What is its purpose of life? The answer to these questions has been given in this verse and succeeding verses.

When God Almighty completed the work of creation of the earth, the skies and all things among them, like the moon, the sun, the stars, rivers, mountains etc. and they began to do their duty, then God Almighty addressed the Angels (Peace be upon Them): Now the time has come to know that for whom, these things have been created, he should also come in front. That is to say; I desire to create my Viceroy on the earth, who will possess all these things (under his control) and will complete the desire of God in the world. He will pay the right of God’s Deputy-ship being His Vicegerent. He will issue and bring in force the Commandments of Allah Almighty.”

Summary of third Rakuu’ - Quran Chptr 2-29 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-53)- درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-29 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-53)- درس قرآن

Summary of third Rakuu’

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

After describing the circumstances of Disbelievers and Hypocrites in previous two Sections, the third Section was begun with effect from the topic that it is necessary for the human being that he should prostrate before God Almighty courteously by manifesting his humility and obey His Commandments, so that he may be bestowed with blessings of life in the both Worlds. It is first of all demands of Allah Almighty from the mankind.

Then, it is commanded that one should draw his full attention unto Holy Qur’an for knowing His Commandments, equal to which, there is neither any other book or scripture and nor can be. For causing to understand this reality, He asked a very simple question surprisingly: How can you deny Allah Almighty, while you have no authority of producing and finishing yourselves or any other living being.

About the Truth of the Word of God Almighty, this simple reason has been presented that if someone is doubtful that it is not the Word of Allah Almighty, but written by any human being, then he should show by bringing ten Chapters like This, if not ten; then bring three, if not three then bring only one like this Word. If you cannot do so alone, then call and include your other companions, scholars and writers for your help in this matter and try your best.

The Section ends at this point that O people: All things on the earth have been created for you only. And the heavens have been created for the purpose that you may reap advantage through the sun, the moon, the stars and raining. Therefore you should recognize your dignity and perform such works; which are befitting for you.

If we understand this verse and cause to impress it on the minds of the nations of the world, then it will be greatest service of the humanity. If the Idolaters and the Disbelievers may understand this fact that the earth, the sky and the entire universe have been created for the humankind, then, how it is possible that master of all these things and prominent from the entire universe, mankind, may prostrate before those things which are most inferior to him instead of own original Lord, God Almighty, Allah; The Most High.

Which Section will be begun after this, particularly it has been explained in that; What is the rank of the human being, and how can he dwell a successful life in the world, so that the humankind may estimate correctly about his greatness and dignity, and he should not commit any such work, due to which he fall down from his higher dignity.

The Signs of Allah - Quran Chptr 2-29 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-52)- درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-29 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-52)- درس قرآن

The Signs of Allah

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

29.  He it is Who created for you all that is in the earth. Then turned He to the heaven, and fashioned it as seven heavens. And He is Knower of all things.
29.  Huwal-lazii khalaqa lakum-maa fil’arzi jamii-‘aa: sum-mas-tawaaa ‘ilas-Samaaa-‘i fa-sawwaa-hunna sab-‘a samaa-waat. Wa Huwa bi-kulli shay-‘in ‘Aliim.

Commentary

Fa-sawwaa-hunna – (So fashioned them). This word has been derived from taswi-yah, which means “To adjust/fit the different parts and joints of a thing at their own places, to correct”.

Sab-‘a samaa-waat – “Seven Heavens,” “Sam-wun” is the origin of “Samaa-waat” and its meaning is “height”. Due to relation of height with the sky, it is called “The Sky”. “Sab-‘a” means seven. Hence in the Arabic proverb, this word is used in the meanings of “more and numerous” also.

The human being is the name of a collection of body and soul. It is obvious that the needs of these both things are fulfilled by God Almighty, Who created this puppet of clay. His first kindness is that He fulfills all necessities of the body and soul, for bud and blossom, development and improvement of his body. The soul of human being needs food also along with bringing up the body.

The meaning of this verse is that first of all, our Lord created the earth. He caused to flow the rivers, the seas and the ocean on one side, and raised the high mountains on the other side, which are very high, grew many forests of the trees, and fed up the inner parts of the earth with different kinds of uncountable treasures. And these all things were created for the sake of Prophet Adam (Peace be upon Him) and His generation. Now it is duty of Human Beings that they should reap reasonable advantages from these countless treasures; using their wisdom and sense.

Using the word jamii-‘an, God Almighty commanded that these all things are for the children of Adam (Peace be upon Him). They have the right to reap advantages from these things. With the physical body of the Human Being, fostering of his soul is also necessary. For this purpose, the earth and its production are not sufficient. Therefore, after creating the earth, He drew His attention toward the Sky. From there, it used to rain the Guidance during different times for the training of the Humankind's’ Souls by means of His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them). As the human being reaps advantage from the things of the earth, he should get advantage also from this Heavenly Rain (Guidance), so that his soul may become perfect too along with his body. Thereby, after becoming a perfect mankind, he should be present in the Court of God.

How do you deny Allah? - Quran Chptr 2-28 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-51)- درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-28 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-51)- درس قرآن

 How do you deny Allah?

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

28.  How disbelieve ye in Allah when ye were dead and He gave life to you! Then He will give you death, then life again, and then unto Him ye will return.
28.  Kayfa  takfuruuna  Billaahi  wa kuntum  ‘am-waatan-  fa- ‘ahyaakum.  Summa yumiitukum  summa  yuhyiikum summa  ‘ilay—hi  turja-‘uun.

Commentary

Turja-‘uun – (You will return), origin of this word is raj-‘un. Here, this word manifests the fact that human being does not go to end for ever after death. Moreover, he will be given life again and he will have to be present in the Court of God Almighty.

The Prophets and Messengers (Peace be upon Them) of Allah Almighty came unto the entire nations of the world and in the every corner of the earth. The message of all of them was the same that “God is One, verily He is the actual Worshipped of all creatures and He is real Lord. The life and the death are in His Power.

God is He, Who created the earth as a bed, caused to flow the rivers in it, so that the earth may become green and lush, and the crops bloom. He produced the mountains on it, created vegetation and minerals, erected the sky without pillars, made the sun, the moon and the stars, with which someone can find the path during the dark nights. He is, Who bestowed on us the life and provided necessary things for our improvement.

Perceive it well also that there was a time, when there was no sign of human being on the earth. Everywhere was a desolate place. He gave life to the human being. Human being spent his life here for many years and reaped advantage from the things created by Him. Then, a time will come, when those entire human beings will die who will be living at that time. After that, those human beings and other all, who had died before them, will be brought back to life again by the Commandment of Allah Almighty. Then, all human beings will be present before Him.

Power of giving Life and death is only in the Hand of God Almighty. When last time of life comes for anyone, nobody can extend; even one moment of the life.

While all the resources including the life of human being are in the control of God Almighty and every breath depends on His Mercy, then we should bow our fore-heads before the Commandments of Allah Almighty. Our good luck and deliverance is in it that we should try to be prepared for presenting ourselves before God and for accountability of our deeds.

Who lose their way? - Quran Chptr 2-27 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-50)- درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-27 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-50)- درس قرآن

 Who lose their way?

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

27.  Those who break the covenant of Allah after ratifying it, and sever that which Allah ordered to be joined and (who) make mischief in the earth, Those are they who are the losers.
27.  ‘Allaziina  yanqu-zuuna  ‘Ah-dAllaahi  mim-ba’-di  mii-saaqiHii,  wa  yaqta-‘uuna maaa  ‘amarAllaahu bihiii  ‘any-yuu-sala  wa  yufsiduuna fil-‘arz.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika   humul-khaa-siruun.

Commentary

‘Ah-da – (the covenant), such mutual agreement and treaty; after binding of which, checking it becomes necessary. Ah-dAllaah (Covenant of God) aims: The Belief and acceptance that God is our Lord and we will obey His command. God asked from the entire mankind collectively before sending them in this world, “Am I not your Lord”? The entire human beings ratified, “Yes! You are our Lord”. Then God Almighty commanded, “I make witness of this Covenant to the earth and the heavens, and for reminding you this covenant, I shall continue sending  My Messengers (Peace be upon Them). The Companion Abi bin Ka’ab (May Allah be pleased with him) said that the aim from “the Covenant of God” is the covenant mentioned in this verse.

Besides the covenant of the Day of Eternity, there is another covenant, which exists in the nature of the mankind. In addition, there are some more covenants also which were made by having faith in the Prophets (Peace be upon Them), and those covenants which are made with the saints on the name of God Almighty.

It is being discussed from the previous verse that the mischievous and disobedient people become victim of depravity. Now causes of their straying are being described:

·         They break the covenant - after ratifying with God. Having belief that Allah is my Master, my Worshiped and my Lord is such a simple matter that the sense of the mankind desires itself that it should not believe in any other thing as its Lord but God.

·         Second sign is that the miscreant breaks every such relationship about which, God Almighty has commanded to unite. It means that the mankind should perform and fulfill the entire Rights of God and which are due on him in accord with the relationship with other human beings. But the miscreant violates the Rights of Allah Almighty and His servants.

·         Third sign is that the miscreant spreads corruption and disturbance in the country. He creates breakdown in the peace of the world by his wicked deeds.

After describing above three signs, God Almighty has described their consequence that these people will be losers with regard to religious and worldly matters. God Almighty save us from their evil and show us the Straight Path.

Guidance and depravity - Quran Chapter 2-26c (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–49)-درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-26c (Pt-1 Stg-1)(L–49)-درس قرآن

 Guidance and depravity

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

26c.  He misleadeth many thereby, and He guideth many thereby. And He misleadeth thereby only miscreants.
26c.  Yuzillu  bihii  kasiiranw-, wa  Yahdii  bihii  kasiiraa.  Wa maa  yu-zillu  bihiii  ‘illal-Faasi-qiin.

Commentary

Faasi-qiina – (the miscreants), this word is plural of Faasiq, which has been derived from the word fisq, which means “transgression”.  According to the Divine Law, refraining from Obedience of God Almighty and indulging in evil deeds.

Allah Almighty described various sorts of resemblances for causing to understand the people. Some of them meditate into them and after learning, they find the Guidance. But some people argue rudely and go astray. Those who found Guidance, they are Believers; who use their powers of thinking and beholding correctly.

There are many ways to reach the destination in the world but from these all, there is only one way which can be Straight. Allah Almighty bestowed sense and wisdom to the mankind. Not only this, but He sent Messages by means of His Messengers (Peace be upon Them) for the Path of Guidance. After that, the mankind is entitled to choose a way which he wants. Now, if any person, reaping advantage of choice, chooses a wrong way, then he falls in evil. And when he adopts evil himself, then other accessories of that way are provided. As putting the hand into the fire, it gets burnt, like this; when a person adopts a wrong path; then evils and harms of that path increase gradually.

According to this verse, due to likenesses of Allah Almighty, many people go astray because of their reasoning absurdly and arguments. They don’t think about the purpose of these examples, but waste their powers of thinking on criticizing against it. Faasiqiin (the miscreants), who run behind their evil desires and are not ready to hear any such conversation easily; which may prevent them from their bad habits.

At the end of the verse, God Almighty has manifested it more clearly that the straying includes only them; who wish to go astray. Allah Almighty does not attach the depravity upon anyone, but his heart is disgusted due to continuous intentional disobedience. And the quest of the truth and seeking the Right does not remain more. Absurd and a lie make room in the heart, as though, the deviation is consequence of their continuous disobedience, being miscreant and evildoer.
