Dwelling of Adam in the Garden - Quran Chptr 2-35a (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-62) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-35a (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-62) -درس قرآن

Dwelling of Adam in the Garden

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

35a.  And We said: O Adam! Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye, freely (of the fruits) thereof where ye will;
35a.  Wa  qulNaa  yaaa-‘Aada-mus-kun  ‘anta  wa  zaw-jukal-Jannata  wa kulaa  minhaa  ragadan  hay-su  shi’-tumaa;

Commentary

Jannata – literal meaning of this word is: Such Garden; crowded trees of which; cover the land. In the term of Islamic Law; it aims, such dignified Garden, in which, there are countless blessings and which will be bestowed to the virtuous persons on the Day of Resurrection. That Garden is called Jannah (Paradise) also because its blessings are hidden from our eyes too.

zaw-juka – (Your wife), Eve (the wife of Adam (peace be upon Them), who was already born at that time; before this discussion. She is the Mother of entire human beings.

Hay-su shi’-tumaa – (Where ye will), (where-from you wish to eat), this word discloses the breadth and largeness of the Paradise.

God Almighty created Adam (peace be upon him) in accord with His own Will and chose him Vicegerent of His Own on the earth. To manifest his position, Allah Almighty commanded the Angels (peace be upon Them) to fall prostrate towards Adam (peace be upon him), so that none may have any courage to rebel or disobey Him. The Angels (peace be upon Them) admitted the greatness of Adam and fell prostrate towards Him (peace be upon him).

After the Caliphate of Adam (Peace be upon Him); Allah Almighty provided them (Adam and His wife) opportunity to live in the Paradise, eat and drink whatever they wish.

About Eve, (peace be upon her), the Commentators of Islam have narrated that Adam (peace be upon him) was alone in the Paradise. He was tired of loneliness. So God Almighty created Eve (peace be upon her) and commanded: You both dwell in the Paradise and eat freely where-from you wish.

It is obvious from this lesson that God Almighty gave Adam (peace be upon him) big rewards more than enough and dignity. At first; He (peace be upon him) was given knowledge, then He became Viceroy of God Almighty, after that a life partner (wife) was provided to Him for comfort and pleasure, then He was placed in Paradise and bestowed countless blessings for eating and drinking. Allah Almighty bestows rewards to His servants always. Now, it is duty of His servants that they should be thankful to Allah Almighty and recognize the Value of such favors.

Prostration of the Angels - Quran Chptr 2-34 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-61) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-34 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-61) -درس قرآن

Prostration of the Angels

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

34.  And when We said unto the angels: Prostrate yourselves before Adam, they fell prostrate, all save Iblis. He demurred through pride, and so became a disbeliever.
34.  Wa  ‘iz  qulNaa  lil- malaaa-‘ikatis-judduu  li-‘Aadama fasajaduuu  ‘illaaa ‘Ibliis ‘abaa  wastakbara  wa
kaana  minal-kaafiriin.

Commentary

‘As-judduu – (Fall prostrate), literally, as well as particularly according to the Divine precepts of the religion - Sajdah means prostration; to bow the body and put the forehead on the ground before someone as in the prayer.  Sajdah is the most venerable sign, so in accord with the religious Law of God Almighty, save Him; prostration is forbidden for anyone else. In this verse, the aim from falling prostrate before Adam (peace be upon Him) is that the Angels (peace be upon Them) bow their heads turning unto Adam as a respect, by accepting His superiority and reverence;. If we take its meanings according to the Divine law; then also its aim is to fall prostrate before God Almighty turning their faces towards Adam (peace be upon Him) because here meanings of the word li-‘Aadama are ‘Prostration not for Adam but towards Adam (peace be upon Him)’ for obeying the Command of Allah Almighty.

‘Ibliis – (Satan, the Devil), literal meanings of this word are ‘hopeless’. This ‘Ibliis was not an Angel but He was from the genealogy of demons, created from the fire. Because Angels have been created from the Light, so it cannot be hoped that the Angels will refuse, disagree, deny or violate the Order of God Almighty. Satan was included in the community of the Angels due to His worship and obedience of Allah Almighty.

‘Abaa -(He denied), this word is from ‘ibaa, which means “to deny, to refuse from anything intentionally”.

Wastakbara – (and he demurred through pride), this word has been derived from kabara, which means “to consider oneself greater than others being proud”. The Devil ‘Satan’ disobeyed the Command of Allah Almighty intentionally and behaved arrogantly.

When it was obvious that Adam (peace be upon Him) was superior to the Angels due to His knowledge and dignity, and was rightful owner of the Caliphate of God on the earth, then Allah Almighty ordered to the Angels to fall prostrate towards Adam (peace be upon them); admitting His greatness.

Obeying the Command of God Almighty, the entire Angels fell prostrate, however; the Devil demurred and said, “I am created from the fire and Adam is created from the clay, so I shall not fall prostrate unto Adam” (peace be upon Him). Due to disobeying the Command of God Almighty, ‘Ibliis became infidel and He was deprived of Allah’s Kindness. He had lost his closeness with God, was seized in the curse of Allah Almighty, and deserved torment.

Success of the Knowledge - Quran Chptr 2-33 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-60) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-33 (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-60) -درس قرآن

Success of the Knowledge

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

33.  He said: O Adam! Inform them of their names, and when he had informed them of their names, He said: Did I not tell you that I know the secret of the heavens and the earth? And I know that which ye disclose and which ye hide.
33.  Qaala  “Yaaa-‘Aadamu ‘ambi’-hum- bi-‘asmaaa-‘ihim.”  Falammaaa   ‘amba-‘ahum- bi-‘Asmaaa-ihim,  qaala   ‘alam ‘aqul-lakum  ‘iNiii   ‘A’-lamu gay-bas-samaawaati wal-‘arz, wa ‘A’-lamu maa tubdunna  wa maa kuntum taktu-muun.

Commentary

The event of Adam’s (Peace be upon Him) Caliphate is being narrated continuously. When Allah Almighty proclaimed about the Caliphate of Adam before Angels (Peace be upon Them), at first; they requested, “We confess with every breath; of Your Praise, Glory and Holiness, as though, if only Praise is required, then we have been performing this duty”. Then the Angels (Peace be upon Them) asserted this fear that the children of Adam (Peace be upon Him) will do harm therein and will shed blood.

God Almighty arranged a trial of knowledge before them to prove the merit of Adam. Adam (peace be upon Him) was bestowed by the knowledge of the names of all things according to his natural ability and virtue. The Angels were not able to know about the names and characteristics of the things. When the questions were asked from the both, the Angels accepted their ignorance but Adam (Peace be upon Him) told the names of all things and proved his superiority.

At such occasion, God Almighty said, “I had already told you that I know about everything’s apparent and hidden condition. I am well-informed about the secrets of the earth and the heavens. The doubts about Adam (Peace be upon Him) which you disclosed, I know them and I also know about that, which was not disclosed clearly by you.” As though, the knowledge of Allah Almighty is containing the entire things, He bestows dignity and responsibility to everyone according to one’s ability and qualification.

Comparison among Adam and Angels - Quran Chptr 2-31b (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-59) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-31b (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-59) -درس قرآن

Comparison among Adam and Angels

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

31b.  then showed them to the angels, saying: Inform Me of the names of these, if ye are truthful.

32.  They said: Be glorified! We have no knowledge saving that which Thou hast taught us. Lo! Thou, only Thou, art the Knower, the Wise.
31b.  summa  ‘arazahum  ‘alal-malaaa-‘ikati  faqaala  ‘ambi-‘uuNii  bi-‘as-maaa-‘i  haaa-‘u-laaa-‘i  ‘in- kuntum saadiqiin.

32.  Qaaluu –Subhaanaka laa  ‘ilma  lanaaa  ‘illaa  maa ‘allamTanaa.  ‘InnaKa  ‘Antal-‘Aliimul-Hakiim.

Commentary

As, it has been discussed earlier that “the Angels (peace be upon them) know only, about which; they have been given knowledge”. They; neither know about those things which they do not need, and nor can try to know about them.

So, after teaching the names of all things to Adam (Peace be upon Him), Allah Almighty produced those things before the Angels (peace be upon them), and commanded them, “If you are true in your claim that you hymn Mine praise and sanctify Me perfectly then; tell Me the names of following things”.

The Angels (peace be upon them) are a sacred creature. They do not have any other work save worship of Allah Almighty. How could they tell their names? They said, “We have only that knowledge, which You have taught us. Besides that, we know nothing. Now! These things, we can say only that there is any philosophy and advantage in producing them but we don’t know about its philosophy and secrecy, because Your works are not but full with Your philosophy.

It is obvious from these verses that due to knowledge, the mankind became superior and higher in rank to the Angels (peace be upon them). Now if someone from the generation of Adam (peace be upon Him) is careless from the knowledge; he cannot perform the duty of God’s Caliph. We observe that those nations, who acquired knowledge, are really on the path of development.

Pre-eminence of Knowledge - Quran Chptr 2-31a (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-58) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-31a (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-58) -درس قرآن

Pre-eminence of Knowledge

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

31a.  And He taught Adam all the names,
31a.  Wa  ‘allama  ‘Aadamal-‘as-maaa-‘a  kullahaa

Commentary

‘Aadama – (Adam) - He (peace be upon Him) is Father of the entire human beings. He is also called Abu –ul-Bashar (Father of the mankind). This is a Persian word (non Arabic).

‘As-maaa-‘a.  (the Names), it is plural of ‘ism, which means “name”. The word; which is spoken for acquaintance of any person or thing, is used as its name. To recognize such person/thing, it is also necessary that its qualities and signs should be known. Here it aims, “the names of all things, their characteristics and conditions, which would have to become necessary for Adam and His children after sending them down on the earth.” God Almighty acquainted Adam (Peace be upon Him) about the entire things’ names, their states and their characteristics.

In accordance with the Knowledge of God Almighty, the creation which was going to become His Viceroy, when the time of his appearance reached, then according to circumstances, the entire necessary things were produced and after that humankind was created and He was named as Adam (peace be upon Him).

As you know that one creature of God Almighty is “Angels” (peace be upon them), who are created from the Light (Noor). They pass their entire time in obedience and worship of Allah Almighty and it is their greatest excellence. They are totally pure and clean from all the wishes and needs, which are good and necessary for Adam (peace be upon Him). So, they are quite unaware about the usefulness of any thing of the earth and skies. However, it is fact that God Almighty has not created anything without any cause. There is indeed any philosophy and advisability in it.

Lord Almighty created Adam (peace be upon Him) from the clay. Then He produced different kinds of desires and necessities in his body. Along with it, He gave him knowledge also to adopt the different means to fulfill his wishes. He produced such ability in it that he may acquaint with all the things easily and may know their characteristics.

Adam (peace be upon Him) has to meet different accidents, incidents and changes in different times. It has been kept in His nature that He will cross the entire hurdles consciously and successfully. He has been informed about the names of every necessary thing and its characteristics to compete in all kinds of difficulties.

Answer to Angels - Quran Chptr 2-30c (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-57) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-30c (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-57) -درس قرآن

Answer to Angels

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

30c.  He said: Surely I know that which ye know not.
30c.  Qaala  ’Inniii ‘a’-lamu  maa  laa  ta’-lamuun”.

Commentary

When Allah Almighty proclaimed before His Bright Beings (Angels) (peace be upon them): I wish to appoint My vicegerent in the earth. The Angels (peace be upon them) established a conception thoughtfully about the Caliph and considered that; which are being created from such different things (clay, water, fire and air), when they will come in the world, essentially they will spread disturbance, unrest and quarrel with one another. They will shed blood of their brothers and rob. It was one side of the life of mankind, which was presented by the Angels (peace be upon them). That is to say; such side which was dark; and in which, only evil was seen.

Before the Angels (peace be upon them), it was a side of that person; who was going to become Caliph. But which qualities were hidden into the human being, they did not know about them, for example; new ideas and inventions, development in different fields of life as his reach from the depth of oceans to the heights of the skies, development in different departments of the science i.e. physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computers, aeroplanes, vehicles, construction technology, petrochemical, ships, his journey towards different planets, electromechanical, agricultural, industrial field, his control over the clouds and rains, his control over the birth, vegetation etc. Therefore, they produced one side of the picture according to their guess, and along with it they presented that side, in accord with which, they were going on. In it, corroboration and obedience in every matter and command of Allah Almighty was included. The Angels furnished this request; not as an objection but respectfully.

Both sides of the life of His Caliph did exist before Allah Almighty. That is to say; He was Aware of His caliph’s present position as well as about the forthcoming changes into him with the passage of time. He was acquainted that His Caliph will bring changes in the entire world with his knowledge and wisdom.

So, God Almighty answered on the request of the Angels (Peace be upon them), “I know and you do not know”. It aims that you don’t know about how much advisability and philosophy are hidden in creation of My Viceroy.

Request by the Angels - Quran Chptr 2-30b (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-56) -درس قرآن

Quran Chptr 2-30b (Pt-1,Stg-1)(L-56) -درس قرآن

Request by the Angels

Surah ‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

30b.  They said: Wilt thou place therein one who will do harm therein and will shed blood, while we, we hymn Thy praise and sanctify Thee?
30b.  Qaaluuu  ‘ataj-‘alu  fiihaa many-yufsidu  fiihaa  wa  yasfi-kud-dimaaa’.  Wa  nahnu  nusabbihu  bi-Ham-dika  wa nu-qaddisu  lak.

Commentary

Yasfi-kud-dimaaa – the word yasfi-ku has been derived from safaka, which means “to shed blood, to cause to flow”. And ‘ad-dimaaa is plural of ‘dam’ which means blood).

Nusabbihu – (We hymn) – this word has come out from tasbiih, which means “to consider by heart that Allah Almighty is the Most Superior than entire creatures, and accept it with one’s tongue, and in addition, admit that all good attributes in Him are according to His Dignity.

Nu-qaddisu – (We sanctify) – this word has been derived from taqdiis, which means “to sanctify, to deem that God Almighty is pure and higher from the entire bad traits and attributes of His creature”. The word Muqaddas is also from the same origin which means “Holy”.

When the Angels (peace be upon them) heard proclamation from God Almighty that: ‘Innii jaa-‘ilun fil-‘arzi KHALIIF-AH (Lo! I am about to place a viceroy in the earth), they said, “We accept with our word and deed that You (Allah Almighty) are Pure, Sanctified and Holy, and request that there is a danger of quarrel on the earth, from this creature.   He will shed blood in the world, and due to him; the world will become home of ruin and destruction, because he will follow his desires. He will not be able to obey Your Commandments wholly.

The Angels (peace be upon them) requested: O Lord of the Worlds! If Your aim of creating Your Viceroy is that You be praised in every side, all creatures sing the songs of Your praise and obey to You, then we exist for Your such duty/service. We are ready every time to listen to Your Orders and act upon Your advice. So, what is the need of creating a worldly creature on the earth?

They also requested: Your Nature is sacred and pure, Your every work is correct but we cannot understand that “out of the creatures of the earth, how can be any such creature; which may be ready every time for Your obedience, praise, hymn and sanctity?
