Opposing the Scripture of God - Quran Chapter 2-101 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-127) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-101 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-127) - درس قرآن

 Opposing the Scripture of God

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

101.  And when there cometh unto them a Messenger from Allah, confirming that which they possess, a party of those who have received the scripture fling the scripture of Allah behind their backs as if they knew not.
101.  Wa lammaa jaaa-‘a hum Rasuulum-min ‘inDIllaahi mu-saddiqul-limaa ma-‘ahum nabaza fariiqum-minal-lazii-na  ‘uutul-kitaaba, kitaa-bAllaahi waraaa-‘a  zuhuuri-him  ka-‘an-nahum laa ya’-lamuun.

Commentary

Rasuulun – (Messenger), the person carrying the message. This word is used for all Prophets (peace be upon Them). It is revealed from the way of narration of this verse that it signifies towards the last Messenger of Allah Almighty (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him). Religious commentators, research scholars and philosophers have taken these meanings of the verse also.

Ma-‘ahum – (they possess), it aims the Holy Scripture, Torah, which was heavenly Book of the Children of Israel and the last Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) confirmed it.

KitaabAllaahi – (the Book of Allah), here it aims Torah too, guidance of which was not admitted by the Children of Israel. These people did not believe also in the last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), though, open signs and foretelling had been mentioned in their Holy Book (Torah). The Jewish Scholars tried their best to hide these foretelling and the common Jewish people opposed Islam and the Muslims limitless, whereas their deliverance was connected with the Belief in Islam.

Waraaa-‘a  zuhuurihim – (behind their backs), it is a proverb, which means, “They took it carelessly and opposed it practically”.

In this verse, it is being described to the Children of Israel that the Last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) has not come for the purpose that He should remove their religion, but He (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) has come to refresh it and provide it a new life. Therefore, not obeying Him (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) is just like ruining entirely their religion by undermining its foundations themselves.

Besides all these Revelations, the Children of Israel began to oppose the religion Islam publicly, and which glad tidings had been mentioned in Torah about the coming of the Last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), and which signs and tokens were described, they changed Torah to hide them and became quite apparently unknown, as though, they did never know that corroborative evidence and confirmation regarding the last Prophet (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) exists in it.

Breach of covenant by the Jews - Quran Chapter 2-99 & 100 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-126) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-99 & 100 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-126) - درس قرآن

Breach of covenant by the Jews

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

99.  And verily We have revealed unto thee clear verses, and only miscreants will disbelieve in them.

100.  Is it ever so that when they make a covenant a party of them set it aside? The truth is, most of them believe not.
99.  Wa laqad ‘anzalNaaa ‘ilay-ka ‘Aayaatim- bayyinaat. Wa maa yakfuru bihaaa ‘illal-faasi-quun.

100.  ‘Awa- kullamaa  ‘aahaduu ‘ahdan-nabazahuu fariiqum-minhum.  Bal ‘aksaruhum laa yu’-minuun.

Commentary

‘Aayaatim- bayyinaat – (clear verses), ‘Aayaat means verses, literally it means ‘tokens’, ‘signs’. The word ‘Aayaat is used for many purposes i.e. punctuation in the Holy Qur’an, Orders, Instructions, and Commands of God Almighty are also called ‘Aayaat, and all those speeches and things which are signs of the Omnipotence of God Almighty, will be included in its meanings.

Bayyinaat – singular of this word is Bayyinah, which means clear, bright. The meanings of this entire sentence may be the Holy Qur’an too, as well as the Miracles and Commands of God Almighty.

The Children of Israel were materialists, so God Almighty bestowed upon their Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) Miracles outward and relating to matter. Near them, proof of the truth of any Prophet (peace be upon Him) was that He (peace be upon Him) would have the Miracles. When the Last Prophet and Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) was sent, the Children of Israel said surprisingly, “of what sort is this Prophet? He has no sign or token of prophet-hood. Replying to them, Allah Almighty commanded, “You demand one sign of Prophet-hood, We have bestowed many signs and tokens upon Our Messenger (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) and those signs & tokens are neither hidden, nor dim. Moreover, these are clear and bright verses, which may be seen by everyone. After reflecting into them, any individual, who has true nature, cannot deny from them. Only those people will disbelieve, who has become habitual of breaking the Laws of God Almighty and violating His Commandments.

History of the Children of Israel has been filled with the happenings of treachery, breaking the covenants, disobeying and violence. Whenever, any Messenger of Allah Almighty brought the Clear Verses unto them, they falsified Him. Moreover, after making the covenant to obey God Almighty and His Prophet (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), they did not remain firm on it. This habit of refusal and disobeying of the Jews stopped them from accepting the prophet-hood of the Last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him).

Enmity of Gabriel (peace be upon him) - Quran Chapter 2-97 & 98 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-125) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-97 & 98 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-125) - درس قرآن

Enmity of Gabriel (peace be upon him)

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

97.  Say (O Muhammad, to mankind): Who is an enemy to Gabriel! For he it is who hath revealed (this Scripture) to thy heart by Allah’s leave, confirming that which was (revealed) before it, and a guidance and glad-tidings to believers.

98.  Who is an enemy to Allah, and His angels and His messengers, and Gabriel and Michael! Then, lo! Allah (Himself) is an enemy to the disbelievers.
97.  Qul man- kaana ‘aduwwal-li-Jibriila fa-‘innahum nazza-lahuu ‘alaa qalbika bi-‘izNillaahi musaddiqal-limaa bayna ya-dayhi wa hudanw-wa  bushraa   lil-Mu’-miniin.

98.  Man-kaana ‘aduwwal-Lillaahi  wa malaaa-‘ikatiHii wa rusuliHii wa Jibriila wa Mii-Kaala  fa-‘innAllaaha  ‘aduwwul-lil-Kaafiriin.

Commentary

Jibriila – (Gabriel) it is the name of a great Angel (peace be upon Him). He has a very sensitive responsibility as He conveys Revelations of God Almighty to the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them). He is counted as from the closely to God Almighty and arch Angel.

In this verse, God Almighty has opened some more secrets of the Jews’ false and meaningless arguments. They used to say that, which torment used to descend over their forefathers from time to time, the news of that punishment was revealed by Gabriel (peace be upon Him). He was their national enemy. For whom, out of Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) will He bring the revelation, they will not accept Him (peace be upon Him). This Angel brings the Revelation unto the Prophet of Islam, the last Messenger Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him) also, besides this, He discloses their secrets, conspiracies and plans over the Last Prophet Muhammad (glory, grace, peace and blessings be upon Him), so they should not agree to accept Him (peace be upon Him).

Allah Almighty has replied in this verse that position of the Gabriel (peace be upon Him) is only as an Angel who conveys the Messages of God Almighty to the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them). In fact, every type of command, order, wrath, punishment or Speech is revealed from Allah Almighty. The enmity of Gabriel, some other Angels and Messengers (peace be upon Them) is entirely meaningless and the Infidels will be punished severely due to their enmity with God Almighty

Allah Almighty has described three virtues of Holy Qur’an in this verse:

  • It confirms the principles of previous Heavenly Scriptures.

  • This Holy Book guides towards the Straight Path.

·       It causes to hear happy news for the Believers about good rewards and success.

Quran Chapter 2-95 & 96 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-124) - درس قرآن

Greedy of living for thousand years

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

95.   But they will never long for it, because of that which their own hands have sent before them. And Allah is Aware of evildoers.

96.    And thou wilt find them greediest of mankind for life and (greedier) than the idolaters. (Each) one of them would like to be allowed to live a thousand years. And to live (a thousand years) would by no means remove him from the doom. And Allah is Seer of what they do.
95.   Wa lany-yata-mannaw-hu   ‘abadam- bimaa qaddamat ‘aydiihim. Wallaahu ‘Aliimum-biz-zaalimiin.

96.   Wa la-tajidan-nahum  ‘ah-rasan-naasi ‘alaa hayaah. Wa minal-laziina ‘ashrakuu yawad-du ‘ahaduhum law yu-‘ammaru ‘alfa sanah. Wa maa huwa bi-muzah-zihihii minal-‘azaabi ‘any-yu-‘ammar. Wallaahu Basiirum- bimaa ya’-maluun.

Commentary

In these verses, Allah Almighty has explained about the reality of the Children of Israel. It means that as they claim that they are the only Heirs of the Paradise, so they are being commanded to show the long for death. But they will never be prepared to accept it. They don’t want to intend to leave the luxuries of this world entirely and to face the world Hereafter. There is only one reason for it that they haven’t faith in the purity of their claim. They just tell a lie. They know very well about the evil doings and immoralities, which they have committed in this world, they shall have to face the punishment for their sins. So they wish that they should get the life as long as possible, so that they may enjoy luxuries of this world for maximum period and be saved from the torment of the Doomsday.

Everybody out of them desires to remain in this world for thousands of the years, so that he may get more worldly benefits and be saved from punishment. But God Almighty warns them that whether they get more life, they can’t save themselves from the wrath of Allah Almighty because He knows their every deed.

Long for death - Quran Chapter 2-94 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-123) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-94 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-123) - درس قرآن

 Long for death

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

94.  Say (unto them): If the abode of the Hereafter in the providence of Allah is indeed for you alone and not for others of mankind (as ye pretend), then long for death (for ye must long for death) if ye are truthful.
94.  Qul  ‘in-kaanat lakumud-Daarul-‘Aakhiratu  ‘indAllaahi    khaalisatam-min-duunin-naasi  fatamannawul-mawta  ‘in-kuntum  saadiqiin.

Commentary

God Almighty has refuted one more fidelity of the Children of Israel in this verse. It has been described earlier that the Children of Israel were standing firm on their self forged and false faiths. One, out of them was that, only they will go into the Garden after death and they will be alone heirs of the Paradise. Except them, neither any other individual/nation of the world will be forgiven and nor will enter in the Paradise.

Allah Almighty has proved their self invented and false belief with very simple understandable argument that it was wrong. The Children of Israel have been told by means of the Last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, peace and blessings be upon Him) that, if they were true in their claim that they were alone heirs of the Heaven and they would enter in the Paradise certainly, then they should show long for death, because the individual, who believes that after death, he will certainly enter in the Paradise, he would not have any fear of death. There are a lot of difficulties and calamities in this world, and in the Paradise, there are every kind of favors, blessings and facilities. So the person, who claims that he is an heir of the Paradise, he should long to face that world (the Day of Resurrection) for good, to leave this world as soon as possible, so that, he may get a comfortable life for ever after getting rid of these calamities and difficulties.

This very reason has been produced for the Children of Israel that if they believe really that the Paradise is only for them, and except them, none other will enter into it, then they should show to long for death (for they must long for death) if they are truthful.

Choosing the calf for worship - Quran Chapter 2-92 & 93 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-122) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2-92 & 93 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-122) - درس قرآن

Choosing the calf for worship

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

92.  And Moses came unto you with clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty), yet while he was away, ye chose the calf (for worship) and ye were wrongdoers.

93.  And when We made with you a covenant and caused the (Mount) Toor to tower above you, (saying): Hold fast that which We have given you, and hear (Our Word), they said: We hear and disobey. And (worship of) the calf was made to sink into their hearts because of their rejection (of the covenant). Say (unto them): Evil is that which your belief enjoineth on you, if ye are believers.
92.  Wa laqad jaaa-‘akum-Muu-saa  bil-Bayyinaati summat-takhaz-tumul-‘ijla mim- ba’-dihii wa ‘antum zaalimuun.

93.  Wa ‘iz ‘akhazNaa Miisaa-qakum wa rafa’-Naa fawqa-kumut-Tuur. Khuzuu maaa ‘aatayNaakum- bi-quwwa-tinw-wasma-‘uu. Qaaluu sami’-naa wa ‘asaynaa; wa ‘ush-ribuu fii quluubihimul-‘ijla bi-kufrihim. Qul bi’-samaa ya’-murukum- bihiii  ‘iimaanukum  ‘in-kuntum-mu’-miniin.

Commentary

In the previous verse, Allah Almighty has proved that the claim of the Jews was wrong that they were following entirely the Divine Law of Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) and now; they do not need any new Religion or Divine law. God Almighty commanded against it that they used to falsify their many Prophets and some of Them (peace be upon them) were even slain by them.

Now in this verse, God Almighty commands that He sent the Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) and bestowed Him also a lot of miracles but knowing all this, even then, the Children of Israel began worshipping of the calf. They gave up Oneness of God and overtook infidelity and ascribed plurality with God Almighty.

Then Allah Almighty made covenant with them in the base of Mount Sinai on some Orders to be obeyed. At that time, due to fear of God Almighty, they promised but later on, they refused to admit it. So at last, Allah, the Most High says, “If your faith, of which you claim, teaches you to slay the Prophets (peace be upon Them), worship the calf instead of God Almighty and break the covenant, then your this faith teaches you wrong-doings. How can it be a true Belief?

Quran Chapter 2-91 (Pt-1, Stg-1) (L-121) - درس قرآن

Denial of invitation unto belief

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

91.  And when it is said unto them: Believe in that which Allah hath revealed, they say: We believe in that which was revealed unto us. And they disbelieve in that which cometh after it, though it is the truth confirming that which they possess. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Why then slew ye the Prophets of Allah aforetime, if ye are (indeed) believers?
91.  Wa ‘izaa qiila lahum ‘aa-minuu bimaaa ‘anza-LAllaahu   qaaluu nu’-minu bimaaa ‘un-zila ‘alaynaa wa yakfuruuna bimaa waraaa-‘ahuu wa huwal-Haqqu musaddiqal-limaa ma-‘ahum. Qul falima taqtuluuna ‘ambiyaaa-‘Allaahi min- qablu ‘in- kuntum-mu’-miniin.

Commentary

As it has been explained previously that when the Last Prophet Muhammad (peace, glory and blessings on Him) invited the Children of Israel that they should embrace Islam, they replied that their hearts have already been filled with these Commands of God Almighty, which exist in their Heavenly Scripture Torah, so, they have no need of any new teachings and Revelations.

Allah Almighty has manifested in this verse that this claim of theirs’ is false also because they do not believe in even their Heavenly Books entirely and do not follow their Commands. It is its proof that they used to falsify their Prophets (peace be upon Them), moreover they have slain some of Them. If they had faith completely in that Scripture and its Commands, then they might not be so disobedient.

After providing this proof, God Almighty warns them that they have gone astray totally from the Straight Path and have left the true religion, so, it is better for them that they should adopt the Religion Islam and admit the Holy Qur’an. It is the Last Heavenly Book. This Book confirms their holy Books itself and presents them in duly corrected form. Without believing in the Last Scripture of Allah Almighty, their claim of believing in their own Scriptures is totally wrong.
