A verse of God’s Throne - 1

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

255.  Allah! There is no God save Him, the Alive, the Eternal. Neither slumber nor sleep overtaketh Him. Unto Him belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he that intercedeth with Him save by His leave? He knoweth that which is in front of them and that which is behind them, while they encompass nothing of His knowledge save what He will. His Throne includeth the heavens and the earth, and He is never weary of preserving them. And He is the Sublime, the Tremendous.
255.  ‘Allaahu  laaa  ‘ilaaha  ‘illaa  Huu.  ‘Al-Hayyul-Qay-yuum.  Laa  ta’-khuzuHuu  sina-tunw-wa  laa  nawm.  LaHuu    maa  fissamaawaati  wa  maa  fil-‘arz.  Man-  zallazii  yashfa-‘u  ‘indaHuuu  ‘illaa  bi-‘izniH.

Commentary

‘Al-Hayyu – (the Alive), it aims that Allah Almighty is Alive from Eternity to Evermore. Epithet of The Life is His Personal Quality. Neither; earlier death ever prevailed over Him and nor ever will it overcome upon Him in future.

‘Al-Qay-yuum- (the Eternal), that is to say; Such Existence Who is not only Perpetual with His Personal Nature but He is Cause of others’ perpetuity and establishment also, and has caused to hold on every creature.

Kursiyyu - (His Throne), it shouldn’t be taken from the word Kursiyyu that Allah Almighty (I seek refuge in Allah) has any physical body and the Kursii is His sitting place. Here Kursiyyu means the Throne, the Knowledge, Sole Command, and also as Power. That is to say; Allah Almighty’s Knowledge and Sole Command is Overcoming upon the entire universe.

yashfa-‘u  ‘indaHuuu  - (he, who may intercede with Him), intercession means act of pleading /recommendation for any individual. Such person who intercedes is called Shaafe’ too. This fact has been repeated many times in Holy Qur’an that none will be permitted to intercede for any individual without His permission in the Court of Allah Almighty. And if any person will intercede, that won’t be against the truth and righteousness. This one sentence has refuted wrong beliefs of ancient nations.

Quran Chapter 2- 254 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-324) - درس قرآن

Spending wealth in God’s Way

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

254.  O ye who believe! Spend of that which We have provided you ere a Day come when there will be no trafficking, nor friendship, nor intercession. And the disbelievers, they are the wrongdoers.
254.  Yaaa-‘ayyuhallaziina  ‘aa-manuuu  ‘anfiquu  mimmaa  razaqNaakum-min- qabli  ‘any-ya’-tiya  Yawmul-laa  bay-‘un-  fiihi  wa  laa  khullatunw-wa  laa shafaa-‘ah.  Wal-kaafiruuna  humuz-zaalimuun.

Commentary

RazaqNaakum – (We have provided you), here, bringing Himself (God Almighty) as first person plural, Allah Almighty declared, “wealth and property, livelihood and prosperity, whichever exists with the people, that entire is given by Him and actually He has the Right to command for spending the wealth and property for the works He desires to be performed.

Yawmun – (a Day), here, Yawmun means the Doomsday, the Day of Resurrection. It signifies that a chance to spend the wealth for good works and collect the goodness is only in this world. After death, when the Doomsday will reach, then there will be no chance for any deed.

Allah Almighty has commanded many times regarding worships and affairs in this chapter (Surah). The most difficult work in these entire acts is to sacrifice one’s life and wealth. So, it has been commanded about these works over and over. Love of these two things carries the human being towards the sin/evil.

God Almighty warned about the importance of Jihad (to try and strive) after telling the story of Prophet Saul (peace be upon him) and his enemy Goliath, and ordered the people to sacrifice their lives in the way of Allah Almighty according to the commands of the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Wealth and riches are required for purchasing the war equipment. Therefore, Allah Almighty emphasized to spend the wealth and property along with the command for Jihad, and declared, “O Believers! We are Giver everything to all. You should not be confused for it that due to spending for good works, you will become poor, or you will not be able to save something for future.

Moreover, you should bear it in your mind that there is nothing of your own. It is only Our Giving. It should not be so; that you continue to collect the wealth and property due to its love and the days of grace come to an end, because it will neither be possible at that time to purchase any goodness against this money or wealth from anywhere, nor you would be released from the punishment of sin or evil, nor intercession of any individual would be fruitful on the Day of Resurrection and nor any friendship or relationship will be useful. In this world, an individual can reap advantage either by means of bribe or friendship/relationship or intercession, but on the Doomsday only personal deeds will be useful.

253b.  And We gave Jesus son of Mary, clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) and We supported him with the Holy Spirit. And if Allah had so willed it, those who followed after them would not have fought one with another after the clear proofs had come unto them, but they differed, some of them believing and some disbelieving. And if Allah had so willed it, they would not have fought one with another. But Allah doeth what He will.
253b.  Wa ‘aatayNaa  ‘Iisabna-  Marya-mal-Bayyinaati  wa  ayyadNaa-hu  bi-Ruuhil- Qudus. Commentary

‘Ibna-  Marya-ma – (son of Mary), it aims to declare that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), whom the Christians consider God or son of God, actually He (peace be upon him) is son of Mary. Neither He is God and nor son of God. By face He (peace be upon him) is a Mankind like others and He (peace be upon him) is like other humankind also in the necessities of mankind.

‘Al-Bayyinaatu – (clear proofs), it signifies towards all such miracles and tokens which were given to Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), by observing which, every wise and justice-lover was influenced to believe in the Messenger-hood of Jesus (peace be upon him).

Ruuhul- Qudus – (the Holy Spirit), in the phrase of Holy Qur‘aan, it aims Angel Gabriel (peace be upon him). Although, He (peace be upon him) is a closest Angel to God Almighty, even then He (peace be upon him) is a creature of God Almighty, and the Christians who consider him one of three gods, take it wrongly. How an Angel can be a God?

‘AyyadNaa-hu – (We supported him), although Jesus (peace be upon him) was very Excellent and Proficient, even then He (peace be upon him) was a Mankind and like other human beings, he (peace be upon him) was needy of Allah Almighty also for being saved from getting loss and reaping benefits.

At the end it is commanded that if Allah Almighty wished, those people who had seen the bright tokens of entire Messengers and after all the Last Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon them), would not have a quarrel with one another. Some of them embraced Islam and were entitled to get rewards, and some disagreed, remained Infidels and deserved punishment.

253a.  Of those messengers, some of whom We have caused to excel others, and of whom there are some unto whom Allah spoke, while some of them He exalted (others) in degrees.
253a.  TILKAR-RUSULU  faz-zalNaa  ba’-zahum  ‘alaa  ba’-z.  Minhumm-man-  kallamAllaahu  wa  rafa-‘a  ba’-zahum  darajaat.

Commentary

‘AR-RUSULU – (Messengers of God Almighty), for which, the words Prophet (Rasuul, Pay-gam-bar and Nabii) (peace be upon them) are used also. Origin of Rasuul is Rasaa-lat which means Mission, Messenger-hood and conveying the Message of God Almighty. Rusul are a sacred group of Messengers who delivered the Message of Allah Almighty to His servants without decrease or increase.

Faz-zalNaa – (We have caused to excel), its origin is Fazal, which means grandeur, reverence, nobility, highness, excellence and dignity. The entire Greatness and Excellence are in the Hand of Allah Almighty. He Bestows His blessings and favors on whom He wishes. None can get them personally. Wealth, personal respect, knowledge, power of stature or family background, indeed nothing is so, with the source of which, someone may attain virtue and highness surely, except that His Greatness is attached with the individual.

Man-  kallamAllaahu – (to whom Allah Almighty spoke), that is to say; those Prophets (peace be upon them) with whom Allah Almighty talked directly and conveyed His Commands as it happened with Prophet Moses (peace be upon him).

God Almighty has commanded in this verse: Of those Messengers, some of whom We have caused to excel others, for instance; some Messengers (peace be upon Them) are those, with whom He talked directly, some are those to whom, Message of Allah Almighty was delivered by means of Angels (peace be upon them) and some Prophets are those, who came only to bring earlier Divine Law to life. They did not come with any new Law of religion.

It has been described in the Holy Qur‘aan at another place: Laa Nu-farri-qu  bay-na  ‘aha-dim-min-hum (We do not differentiate anyone among them). It aims that as far as, it relates to Messenger-hood, We do not say anyone superior or junior. So, there is no contradiction and difference between these two verses. Moreover, both the verses are correct at their own places. Being a Muslim, we believe that since the world has come into existence, with effect from then the Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon them) were sent in every nation and during every time till the Last Messenger, Muhammad (peace be upon him), they all brought the Message of One God Almighty. Message from each of them (peace be upon them) deserved obedience during their individual times. We believe in the truth of those entire Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon them).

God’s portents - Quran Chapter 2- 252 (Pt-2, Stg-1) (L-320) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 2- 252 (Pt-2, Stg-1) (L-320) - درس قرآن

God’s portents

Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱللَّهِ نَتْلُوهَا عَلَيْكَ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَإِنَّكَ لَمِنَ ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ 252

252.  These are the portents of Allah which We recite unto thee (Muhammad) with truth. And lo! thou art of the number of (Our) messengers.
252.  Tilka  ‘AayaatUllaahi  nat-luu-Haa  ‘alayka  bil-haqq.  Wa  ‘innaka  laminal-Mursaliin.

Commentary

Bil-Haqq - (with truth), it aims that earlier stories and portents are caused to hear the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) without decrease or increase. Using this word, it has been cleared also that Holy Qur‘an doesn’t change the stories from good to bad like other Scriptures (amended by their followers).

Minal-Mursaliin – (of the number of messengers (peace be upon them), it is evident from this word that the recognized position of Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is like other Messengers (peace be upon them) too. Neither any Messenger/Prophet is Self-Creator (God) and nor demi-god. Indeed the Holy Qur‘aan uses the sound words for being saved from ascribing the plurality to Allah Almighty.

It is clear from this verse also that as Prophet David (peace be upon him) was given knowledge and wisdom by Allah Almighty, likewise the Messenger of Islam (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has also been exalted with these blessings by Him (Allah Almighty).

Allah Almighty has commanded in this verse that the previous stories, which We cause to here the Messenger (Muhammad) (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), are quite true. There is no doubt in those stories. There are uncountable advices in these stories, which are useful like beacon for future nations and races. Allah Almighty signifies to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) about coming out of thousands people of the children of Israel from their houses, dying suddenly and then coming back to life with the Command of Allah Almighty, assaulting over them by Goliath, their request for making king for them, Prophet Saul’s (peace be upon him) becoming king, giving him (peace be upon him) greatness in knowledge and stature, returning of Ark, coming out by Saul (peace be upon him) opposite to Goliath, killing the Goliath by David (peace be upon him) and bestowing on him (peace be upon him) the sovereignty and wisdom by Allah Almighty. God Almighty informs His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) about all these matters and we have advice in these stories.

God Almighty commanded to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) also, “You are of the number of (Our) messengers” and it’s clear proof is that “We (Allah Almighty) inspired unto you (Muhammad) past portents” and signs, and these stories are used to reveal only towards the Messengers (peace be upon them). While, neither you (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) have read these stories in any book, nor heard from any person, but have been reached you by means of the Revelation of God Almighty.

Description of uncountable incidents regarding earlier nations and Prophets/Messengers (peace be upon them) exists in the Holy Qur’aan. Recitation and signs of their conditions exist in every Surah (Chapter).

It is not intended anywhere to write history and biography from these statements, but the root cause is warning and advice. It is our duty that we should correct our present in the light of the events of previous nations and meditate for future. If we did not do so, then it would be our limitless negligence and stupidity.
