Standard of the sacrifice - Quran Chapter 3- 92 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-421) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 92 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-421) - درس قرآن

Standard of the sacrifice

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

92.  Ye will not attain unto piety until ye spend of that which ye love. And whatsoever ye spend, Allah  is  Aware thereof.
92.  LAN-  TANAALUL-BIRRA  hattaa  tunfiquu
mimmaa  tuhib-buun.  Wa  maa  tunfiquu min- shay-‘in-  fa-‘innAllaaha bihii  ‘Aliim.

Commentary

Sometimes a man hesitates from spending for piety due to the reason that he would have to sacrifice his favorite things. There are many such things in this mortal world, which are most beloved to him. Some times this love extends to the extent that he feels unpleasant to be separate from them. The love of these things compels him to sacrifice every thing for them. This love makes him blind and he loses the distinction between good and bad.

The life of human being passes in acquiring pleasures, honor and becoming famous, wealth and children, demand of nobility and chief-ship, and he/she loves them very much. Sometimes he sacrifices also his honesty to achieve and maintain them. In his view, the value of piety falls down as compared to these things. Like this, he becomes effigy of the selfishness, loving of the lustful desires and statue of sensuality. Gradually he turns away from the piety at all.

As long as the selfishness is not rooted out from the human heart and if he is not taught to love the virtue more than every thing, he cannot become righteous. A man who becomes ready to sacrifice his most favorite thing for piety, there is no doubt in his sincerity, good intentions and his worship to God. In fact, selfishness is foundation of the entire evils, and the sincerity is the soul of all goodness.

The Jews and the Christians used to love the wealth and affluence. They had power and chief-ship over the uneducated people of their nation and this thing was very dear to them. They were afraid that if they would believe in the last Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him), if they obeyed him then they would lose their nobility and strength. That is why they used to disbelieve in him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Allah Almighty commanded them, “Till the time you will not be ready to sacrifice your most favorite thing; you would not be able to get the piety”. Allah Almighty knows also that, “Who did spend? Which thing was spent? For whom was spent? The thing, how much favorite will be spent in the way of Allah Almighty, He will reward you corresponding to that as retaliation.

Allah Almighty has determined the standard for the piety that the person should sacrifice his most favorite thing in His path. That will be considered the best virtue and Allah Almighty will appreciate him for it.

91b.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  lahum  ‘azaabun  ‘aliimunw-wa  maa  lahum-min-naasiriin.

Commentary

As it has been described in detail in the previous verses that after discussion with the group of Najraan, and notwithstanding believing heartily in the truth of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), the Christians did not surrender. They used to calumniate that Allah Almighty has said a certain thing, so and so has been written in this Scripture, whereas, they used to concoct all these sayings personally at their own.

Moreover, No Prophet or Messenger (peace be upon him) teaches against the commands of Allah Almighty. He [Prophet or Messenger (peace be upon him)] does never say to worship him. He says always, “Be of Allah”. But the Nazarene changed the commands of Allah Almighty and did not accept. They used to differentiate between the Prophets (peace be upon them), whereas Allah Almighty sent all of them with one path of guidance and taught them the lesson of Unity (Oneness of God).

After knowing these entire realities, even then, the Christians did not believe and continued denying. They used to sell their faith being involved in the love of wealth and property, and entangled in the worldly aims, did neither care for the Doomsday, nor arrange for their end. Allah Almighty pronounced that He would never show the path of guidance to such people. Moreover, as for such, their guerdon is that on them rests the curse of Allah Almighty and of angels (peace be upon them) and of men combined, they will abide therein for ever. Their torment will neither be lightened, and nor will they be reprieved.

Look at the Mercy of Allah Almighty that He gives another chance to the mankind to repent, to be ashamed on his evil acts and be entitled of forgiveness. But the disbelievers still do not understand, refuse to Allah Almighty, use to become fixed on it during their entire life and do not repent till the moment of death. The whole earth full of gold would not be accepted from such people if it were offered as a ransom for their souls. These are the sinners. They would have to see their painful doom, enjoy the severest chastisement. There will be neither any friend of them, nor helper, nor supporter and nor their any saver from Allah Almighty. Moreover, these people will be helpless and support-less. Nobody will be his or her trustworthy in the Day of Resurrection.

The wise person should take warning from these circumstances and facts. He should not spoil his Hereafter by adopting the way of the astray, and should not make his future disgusting. In addition, by acquiring lesson from these matters he should choose the path of goodness.

There are two punishments mentioned in this verse:

1. A form of painful doom,

2.   They will have no helpers.

Those friends would slip away on support of which they were proud. They will leave from whom they had expectation.

Blessed are those who stand before time.

91a.  ‘Innal-laziina kafaruu  wa  maatuu  wa  hum  kuffaarun- falany-yuqbala  min  ‘ahadihim  mil-‘ul-‘arzi  zahabanw-wa  la-wiftadaa  bih.

Commentary

In this verse such infidels and sinners have been warned who think always that gold and silver (wealth and property) are the actual source of whole power and strength. Money covers the entire sins and conceals the entire evils. They think that as they are saved from punishment of crimes by giving a bribe or ransom in this world, like this they might be saved from the Doom of Allah Almighty by giving Him silver and gold as a ransom on the Doomsday.

Allah Almighty has described that their imaginations were vain. If any sinner out of them has gold equivalent to the entire earth and he wishes to present it as ransom of his sins to Allah Almighty, it will never be accepted. He has no need of the gold. He is Owner of the whole universe, earth and skies, Creator of all the creatures and existents, all are obedient unto Him from an atom to the sun, from an ant to elephant and from inferior sinner human being to a high dignity Prophet (peace be upon him). Gold, silver, money, wealth and riches, all are in His Ownership and He is the One, Who gives these all things to the people. Then how would He forgive the sinners against the ransom of it?

In fact, ideology of bribe and ransom is creation of those people, whose religion is money and wealth, whose purpose of life is wealth, who look for it during their entire life, spend their time and labor to acquire it, pass their age for its collection. At last taking its grief in their hearts, they leave this mortal world with empty hands. These people used to run behind the gold and silver, and did close pursuit for the wealth. They endowed their entire attention and labor for it, but found too much dreadful, full of pain and suffering result. They remained in the same wrong supposition that this thing is the origin of deliverance and cause of success. But these blind of wisdom do not know that the real wealth is the wealth of Belief. Real capital is the capital of virtue. Gold and silver have the value not even like just a worthless straw comparatively to good acts. On the Doomsday, just righteousness can save. Heaps of gold and silver would not work in the Hereafter.

‘Iftadaa-  (offered as a ransom) ransom means to repay, which is paid in return of any fault or sin in the form of wealth or any other thing.

The People of the Scripture had false belief about ransom, which became cause of their trackless-ness and easiness.

Commentary

Some more explanation has been made about repentance in this verse. Those persons who abashed due to wrongdoings and errors, if they repented and began doing good works; Allah Almighty will accept their repentance and forgive them. Here it is commanded that those people who disbelieved intentionally after their belief, then remained denying it until the end of their life, had they neither returned from Infidelity, nor refrained from the enmity of the Observers of the laws of Prophet Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him). Moreover, they used to argue and fight the believers.

When the time of death reached and the angles (peace be upon them) came to seize their souls, then they turned for repentance. Dear! What is the gain of this repentance? The matter is clear that the purpose of repentance is correction and doing right. If anybody repented at the time of death while there is no chance and time for doing right, then there repentance is in vain.

When some people feel trouble and either they become helpless from the apparent circumstances, or the disease becomes incurable, then customarily and habitually they evoke “repentance”. This type of repentance has no value. Some people perceive their sins and incline towards Allah Almighty. But no sooner some time passed, circumstances changed, than they forgot every thing, began evildoing and disobedience again. Repentance of such people cannot be acceptable also.

In every day life, we observe that some persons do good work either for ostentation or when they are compelled to do so. As if, when they have power and authority, they do not intend towards goodness. When they become helpless, then they begin to accept that in future they would not commit evils. Such promise is useless. It means that heartily they do not have aversion from the evil and love with the goodness. On the contrary, they begin to evade false for getting benefit only for the time being. Allah Almighty commands, “in fact, these are the people, who are astray”.

We learnt from this verse that we should never go near the evil, infidelity and denial. In addition, we should prostrate before Allah Almighty always for the guidance unto the Straight Path. Whenever we commit any error unknowingly, then we should repent forthwith.

89.  Save those who afterward repent and do right. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
89.  ‘Illal-laziina  taabuu  mim-ba’-di  zaalika  wa  ‘aslahuu; fa-‘innallaaha  Gafuurur-Rahiim.

Commentary

Those persons are not rightful to be forgiven in any condition, who (the criminals and the sinners) have been described in the previous verses. However, Allah Almighty is Forgiving and Merciful. To Him, if any sinner repents sincerely even after such severe sins and rebels, and intends to adopt good conduct in future, then his all sins are forgiven.

Allah Almighty has kept room of repentance for them and they have been given respite that if they refrain from the wickedness, leave the evildoing, choose the right path, then Allah Almighty will bestow them forgiveness; ignoring their errors. This verse manifests the Mercy of Allah Almighty.

There are many causes of depravity. The human being goes astray in ignorance, bad company, worldly love, improvidence, opposition, stubbornness etc, and does not think about his deeds. He does not draw his attention to correct his conduct. But when either he stumbles or hears any sound of advice from somewhere or he meditates himself  upon his own circumstances of life, then suddenly he feels that he is going astray, repents upon previous deeds, is ashamed and tries to finish his sins all at once.  He wants to be pure from impureness and sins, becomes attentive towards Allah Almighty, wishes to implore earnestly and humbly before Allah Almighty for forgiveness by reproaching upon his shortsightedness, and intends firm to adopt the path of virtue in future. Allah Almighty accepts his repentance and covers him in His shadow of blessings. It is the fortune of human being that Allah Almighty has kept space of repentance for him and bestowed him respite to incline towards the goodness.

Contrarily, if no one gains from this opportunity, then who else will be more wretched and unlucky than him?

Tawbah – (Repentance), this word has been used in the Holy Qur’an many times. Literally, it means to come back, to return and to consider. So it is commanded Tuubuu ‘ilaa Baari-‘ikum (“return the attention to your God, and It gave the good news that the people who recourse to Me). ‘A-tuubu ‘alayhi  ( “I become attentive towards him”).

First condition for repentance is that the person should perceive about his errors, disclose shame, regret on it, and determine to leave it and refrain from it. Allah Almighty accepts such repentance. He is Forgiving and Merciful.

Commentary

The religious and worldly wrong deeds and evils of which persons were described in the previous verses, now their specific chastisement has been mentioned; those persons will be punished because of their wrongdoing and dishonesty. Their biggest sin is that they tried to falsify the truth after understanding it. They turned away notwithstanding knowing the path of goodness, were not attentive towards the preachers of rectitude and righteousness.

This same trick was of the Jews and the Christians. These people had known by reciting the Scriptures (Heavenly Books) that after the Prophets Moses and Jesus (peace be upon them), the last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) will be sent. When he was born, they refused after knowing him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Punishment for those people is that on them rests the curse of Allah, His angels (peace be upon them) and of the men combined. In addition, they also shun themselves personally, when they say from their own tongues, “Allah’s curse on liars and wrongdoers” doing so they reprove in fact themselves.

For them, this curse is for ever. Moreover, they will be entangled in grievous torment on the Day of Resurrection. Neither their doom will be lightened, nor will they be reprieved for a while. The fire has not a characteristic that it would lessen its heat, burning or inflammation for some time. That fire would be brought by Omnipotent and it would be Divine wrath for them.

Usually those people strengthen the power of badness who after understanding the reality of goodness, adopt the path of evil only due to following the casual, fickle and useless motives. These people mostly harm the power of goodness. Other persons are deceived strongly by their deception. Their faith becomes unsettled. Their belief on goodness is weakened.

Those people who have doubts in the path of guidance and good fortune, actually they become also the cause of others’ depravity. Due to their natural disposition of this indirect badness, they are settled to deserve the curse.  The curse of Allah Almighty, His angels (peace be upon them), the Muslims and the persons of good souls (combined) rests on them.

la’-natAllaahi – (the curse of Allah), la-‘a-na is its root. Mal-‘uun is he, who is accursed. It means distance and the
curse. According to phraseology, it means the distance from the pity, mercy and exclusion from favor and bounty of Allah Almighty is called ‘Curse’.

Commentary

Allah Almighty has commanded in this verse that He will never guide the wrongdoers. Wrongdoers are those people who disbelieved after their belief. They neither accepted the truth themselves, nor invited others unto the Straight Path. In addition, their refusal became resistance for others to believe in.

Some people chose infidelity after understanding the Truth. They see the reality with their eyes, when they join their own people; they also affirm secretly that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is True. Bright proofs, open signs and clear glad tidings of his truth, sincerity and fidelity have reached them. Despite, their arrogance, envy and love of personal dignity have been preventing them from embracing Islam and leaving the infidelity.

It was common condition of the Jews and the Christians. How can it be hoped that either Allah Almighty will forgive them who are such obstinate and perverse Infidels, or bring them towards the Way of His Pleasure and lead them to reach the paradise? It is not His principle to bestow the real success to the unjust, bigoted and disobedient transgressors.

The people, who embraced Islam, bore witness that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him) was true and after clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) which came unto them, they deserted from Islam and became renegade by following the worldly aims, sensuality and luxury, their condition will be worse than the above categories. They will be rightful owners of the curse and punishment. Who will be blinder than a person who gets light but afterwards openly says that the darkness is light? Who will exalt him?

These people will be losers on the Day of Judgment. Biggest loss for them will be that they would have wasted even their principal (capital). Every human being has been born on the virtue and good fortune of the human nature. But the human being destroys his good nature by wrongdoing, flowing in the ambitions of shameful passions, false thoughts and disgusting desires. And he falls much down from the grade of humanity. It is the form of loss.

When such people tyrannize themselves, after knowing the truth and difference between good and bad, they choose the path of evil, and turn away from the Commands of Allah Almighty, then how can they be guided towards the straight path? They adopt perverseness due to their wrong deeds, are entangled in stray and loss real essence of the humanity. May Allah Almighty save us from the company of the people like them and their evils.
