Prayer of those who are of God

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

147.  Their saying was only that they said: Our Lord! Forgive us for our sins and wasted efforts, make our foothold sure, and give us victory over the disbelieving folk.

148.  So Allah gave them the reward of the world and the good reward of the Hereafter. Allah loveth those whose deeds are good.

148.  Fa-‘aataa-humUllaahu  sa-waabad-dunyaa  wa  husna  sa-waabil- ‘Aakhirah.  Wallaahu  yuhibbul-Muhsiniin.

Commentary

It is being narrated about those goody people (May Allah be pleased with them), who cooperated with the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon them) in the Way of Allah Almighty, that they do neither evade to sacrifice their wealth, body and soul, nor show laziness, nor feel weakness, nor they are restrained, and they remain steadfast. Even then, they are not proud. They keep bowing their heads of submission and gratefulness before Allah Almighty. Their way of supplicating in the Court of Allah Almighty is very great proof of their good disposition itself.

They begged most humbly, sincerely with their hearts and respectfully, “O our Lord! ‘Ig-fir  lanaa  zunuubanaa - (conceal our sins and evil doings, put the curtain of Your Mercy on our errors and ambiguities, pardon us from our weaknesses and forgive us for our sins). ‘Israa-fanaa  fiii  ‘amrinaa  - (keep our wasted efforts secret also and forgive). Sabbit  ‘aqdaamanaa - (make our foothold sure) bestow on us steadfastness. Wan-surnaa  ‘alal- qawmil-kaafiriin - {and give us victory over the disbelieving folk, who do not believe in You, who are foe of Your Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and who are enemies of Your Religion (Islam)}.

It has been ordained as a reply of the above-mentioned supplication, “WE gave such people the reward of the world and the good reward of the Hereafter. Allah loves those whose deeds are good”.

Messengers and their companions - Quran Chapter 3- 146 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-467) -

Quran Chapter 3- 146 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-467) -

Messengers and their companions

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

146.  And with how many a Prophet have there been a number of devoted men who fought (beside him). They quailed not for aught that befell them in the Way of Allah, nor did they weaken, nor were they brought low. And Allah loveth the steadfast.
Wallaahu  yuhibbus-Saabiriin.

Commentary

This topic begins from the previous two verses that the Prophets and the Messengers (peace be upon Them) came in the world and passed away. Like this, the Last Messenger, Muhammad  (SallAllaahu ‘alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) was sent for a prescribed period. But His (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) religion will remain till the General Resurrection, and the Scripture brought by Him will remain a source of Guidance always for the nations and people of the entire world.

Therefore, showing weakness and laziness in the matters of religion will be opposite to the wisdom and sense. Those people who exposed broken-hearted after hearing false news about martyrdom of Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) in the Battlefield of ‘Uhud, they wronged. The Religion belongs to Allah Almighty and He is Eternal and Immortal. There is no mortality for Himself.

Continuing the same Series of the Word, there is a mention in this verse about the Prophets, the Messengers (peace be upon them) and their devoted followers (companions) (may Allah be pleased with them). So that the followers of the last Messenger, Muhammad  (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) (Muslim ‘Ummah) may learn from them.

Rib-biyyuuna – (the devoted men), this word has been derived from the word ‘Rabb’ which is an adjective of Allah Almighty. Rib-biyyuun means those people who have relation with their Lord, seekers and lovers of Allah Almighty. The Jews used to call their scholars as Rabbii, plural of which is Rib-biyyuun.

It is being commanded, “Often it happened that the devotee people and the pious servants of Allah Almighty fought against His enemies in support of the Prophets (peace be upon them). Good or bad, every sort of time comes in the war. Sometimes one group wins and the other is defeated and sometimes opposite to it. But their steadfast feet never trembled. Their spirit and strength were never weakened. They suffered thousand times, but neither they were lazy, nor had shown weakness and nor were they brought down. Allah Almighty keeps such people friends who are steadfast and have stable temperament. The Muslims would have to produce these virtues in to them for becoming beloved of Lord Almighty”.

Getting reward in the world and the Hereafter - Quran Chapter 3 145 Pt 4, Stg 1 L 466

Quran Chapter 3- 145 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-466) -

Getting reward in the world and the Hereafter

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

145.  No soul can ever die except by Allah’s leave and at a term appointed. Whoso desireth the reward of the world, We bestow on him thereof; and whoso desireth the reward of the Hereafter, We bestow on him thereof. And We shall reward the thankful.
145.  Wa  maa  kaana  li-nafsin  ‘an- tamuuta  ‘illaa  bi-‘iznillaahi  ki-taabam-mu-‘ajjalaa. Wa  many-yurid  sa-waabad-dunyaa  nu’-tihii  minhaa. Wa many-yurid  sa-waabal-‘Aakhirati  nu’-tihii  minhaa. Wa  sanaj-zish-Shaakiriin.

Commentary

It has been described in this verse that none can die without the order of Allah Almighty, whether sufficient reasons of death have been gathered. Moreover, death of every person occurs at its specific time. If the situation is as it is, then the people who have trust in Allah Almighty; should neither fear from it and nor be disappointed after hearing the death of any younger or elder.

The person who desires reward of his good deeds in the world, Allah Almighty will bestow on him thereof; and whoso desires the reward in the Hereafter, He will bestow on him thereof. For instance; the squad of archers disobeyed the command of Holy Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in the Battle of ‘Uhud and broke in collecting the booty. Those people wanted reward of strife and struggle (Jihad) in the path of Allah Almighty in this world. Second type of the people is those who executed the order of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). For instance, chief of archers Abdullah bin Jabiir and his only ten companions (archers) saw the enemies running away from the battlefield and found the Muslims collecting the booty, but they did not move from their place. They preferred the Obedience of Holy Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) instead of collecting spoils and material belonging to this world. They remained steadfast in obedience of Holy Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) without caring for the booty. Reward for these types of particular people is in the Hereafter.

The people who will remain steadfast upon the religion, they will get the religion also as well as there will be no deduction in their wealth and property in the world, and they will succeed in the Hereafter too. Allah Almighty will grant them more rewards who feel obliged and value the graciousness. Some people become so blind in the greed and selfishness and lose their senses that their belief does not remain in the Hereafter. They say that they should be paid their reward for their deeds in cash (in the world) not a loan (in the Hereafter). They think that it is unknown and not sure whether they would come again to life or otherwise. They want to get rewards of their virtues, hardworking and goodness in this world. Such people remain in severe loss because getting reward in this world is nothing as compared to the Hereafter.

Departure of God’s Messenger - Quran Chapter 3- 144b (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-465) -

Quran Chapter 3- 144b (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-465) -

Departure of God’s Messenger

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

144b.  He who turneth back on his heels doth no hurt to Allah. And Allah will reward the thankful.
144b.  Wa   many-yan-qalib  ‘alaa  ‘aqibayhi  falany-yazurrallaaha  shay-‘aa.  Wa  sa-yaj-zillaahush-Shaakiriin.

Commentary

As soon as the archers left their place, one troop of horses, which was being commanded by Khalid bin Waleed returned and attacked from the hill-pass side. A handful strength of ten bowmen could not stop two hundred fifty horse-riders. However, ‘Abdullah bin Jabiir and his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) sacrificed their lives during fight. Then the Muslims were surrounded from the both sides. They fought as much strongly that ‘Al-‘amaan wal-Hafiiz. Many Muslims were martyred and injured. At the same time an Infidel threw a stone on the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), which caused to martyr his tooth and face was injured. Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) fell down due to severity of the injury and someone spread the rumor that Prophet of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has been killed.

Listening to this news the Muslims lose their senses and footing. A few Muslims threw their weapons. Some of them thought about getting safety from the leader of Idolaters. The Hypocrites began to say that while Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has been killed then we should adopt our ancient religion; leaving Islam.

At that critical time, Ans ibne-Al-Nafar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “If Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has been killed then his God is still Alive. After Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) there is no use to live. For which aim Prophet Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was killed, we also should sacrifice ourselves for the same purpose. Saying these words, he moved forward and was martyred. Then suddenly, Messenger of Allah (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) called, “O slaves of Allah: Come here!”. Listening to that particular voice, the Muslims began to shrink there again. Three Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) defended coming near to him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and caused the Army of Idolaters to run away.

Then this verse was revealed, “Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is not God but a Messenger. Many Prophets (peace be upon them) have passed away before him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). After the Prophets (peace be upon them), their followers sustained the religion always. Therefore, your passing away from the world would not be a surprise. If you (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) die or martyr then, would the people turn away from serving and protecting the religion? Remember it that, “If someone does so, he will lose himself; it will influence nothing to God. You should thank Allah Almighty that He has chosen you for the services of His religion.

It is obligatory upon us to learn from this verse and remain steadfast on His religion in the absence of the Messenger of Allah (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Holy Qur’an has been committed to the trust and our care by the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), which is a permanent source of Guidance. Besides this, model roll and sayings of the Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) are before us. We should follow his (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) footsteps and get success. Islam will remain alive always.

Muhammad is Messenger of God - Quran Chapter 3- 144a (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-464) -

Quran Chapter 3- 144a (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-464) -

Muhammad is Messenger of God

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

144a.  Muhammad is but a Messenger, messengers (the like of whom) have passed away before him. Will it be that, when he dieth or is slain, ye will turn back on your heels?
144a.  Wa  maa  Muhammadun  ‘illaa  Rasuul. Qad  khalat  min-qablihir-rusul.  ‘Afa-‘immaata  ‘aw  qutilan-qalabtum  ‘alaaa  ‘a’-qaabikum.

Commentary

Ancient nations formed their Spiritual Guides, Reformers, Prophets and Messengers either as God or son of god, and deemed them higher than the mankind. Islam has determined the actual status of the Messenger in Kalima-tush-Shahaadah, “’Ash-hadu ‘allaaa  ilaaha  ‘illAllaahu, Wah-daHuu,  Laa  sha-reeka  laHuu,  wa  ‘ash-hadu  ‘anna  Muhamma-dan  ‘Abdu-Huu  wa  RasuuluHuu” (I bear witness that verily there is no God but Allah. He is the One, None is Partner with Him. And I bear witness that verily Muhammad is His ‘Abd (Servant) and His Apostle. (He is neither God, nor Son of God, nor the Incarnation of God). There is no priesthood in Islam, No rituals, no formalities of baptism.

After producing this basic principle of Islam in the above-mentioned verses, it has been signified towards an important event of the Battle of ‘Uhud, which is as under:

In the battlefield of ‘Uhud, Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) prepared a map for war personally. After setting the rank and file in order, He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) observed that one pass of the hill of ‘Uhud had remained unsafe. The Army of enemy could attack the Muslims from behind that pass. Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) detailed fifty archers to stand on the pass, appointed ‘Abdullah bin Jabiir (may Allah be pleased with him) as their leader and urged them also, “You should remain standing on this place and leave not your position. Even if you observe that the winged creature are pinching and eating the flesh of our Army, even then you would not have to leave your place”. Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) commanded, “Till the time you will keep your footing at this place, we shall remain triumphant upon the enemy”.

The battle began. A furious war was fought. Crusaders of Islam were showing advantage of manliness and bravery. The Idolaters of Quraish were not able to find any path except running away from the front of the fearlessness of Abu Dajaanah, Ali and other Crusaders of Islam. Allah Almighty fulfilled His promise. The Infidels suffered a defeat. They began to run away. The Muslim soldiers began to collect the enemy’s property and assets in possession (booty).

When the bowmen of the hill-pass observed this scene, they considered that “the Muslims have succeeded. Now staying here (at the pass of the hill) is useless and avoidable. We should pursue the enemy and take our share from the booty. Their leader Abdullah bin Jabiir (may Allah be pleased with him) reminded them dictation of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), but the archers imagined that they have completed their duty according to the desire of Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). They all broke in collecting the booty except Abdullah bin Jabiir and his only ten companions (archers) remained for the safety of the pass.

Quran Chapter 3- 142 & 143 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-463) -

Condition for entering the Garden

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

142.  Do ye deem that ye would enter Paradise while yet Allah knoweth not those of you who really strive, nor knoweth those (of you) who are steadfast?

143.  And verily ye used to wish for death before ye met it (in the field); now ye have seen it with your eyes.
142.  ‘Am  hasibtum  ‘an-  tad-khulul-Jannata  wa  lammaa  ya’-laMillaahul-laziina  jaaha-duu  minkum  wa  ya’-lamas-Saabiriin.

143.  Wa  laqad  kuntum  taman-nawnal-mawta  min  qabli  ‘an-talqawh; faqad  ra-‘aytumuuhu  wa  ‘antum
tanzuruun.

Commentary

It has been mentioned in this verse, “Do you consider that you would reach there easily and comfortably, where Allah Almighty wishes to cause to arrive the Muslims (at most dignified places of the Paradise and higher grades)? In addition, Allah Almighty will not observe through your test and trial, that how many of you are those who really strive and who are steadfast? Keep it in your minds that only those people are caused to reach the superior posts, who are ready to sacrifice their lives and bear every kind of hardness and severity in the Path of Allah Almighty.

Those companions (may Allah Almighty be pleased with them) who could not participate in the Battle of Badr, they used to long for it that Allah Almighty should produce another chance again, so that ‘we’ also may achieve the grade of martyrdom in the Way of Allah Almighty. It has been commanded in this verse, “The longing, which you had earlier in your breasts, that has appeared before you. That is to say; you wished to strive with the fond of martyrdom in the Path of Allah Almighty. At this time, treacherous powers are before you. How strange is it if; instead of going ahead, now you want to withdraw? Moreover, you would have to accomplish the desires of your hearts.

It has come in the Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), “Do not wish ever to fight the enemy. However, if the time has come and you have been compelled to fight, then you should remain steadfast and strive the crusade if the enemy has been challenging you.

It is evident from these verses that to acquire the result of goodness, someone has to bear the difficulties in the Way of Allah Almighty. Test and examination declares that, “who deserves the Paradise? Who has the right to become Its heir? In such a manner, the Muslims would have to face different kinds of calamities and troubles to enter Paradise. Therefore, they should remain steadfast and patient.

Commentary

Allah Almighty keeps up changing the days of suffering and ease in different nations for the purpose that He may know the truly Believers and Hypocrites. The Believer trusts in Allah Almighty during the days of calamity and trouble also. He has faith in patience and constancy, remains persevering in belief and credence, and desiring victory and support from Allah Almighty. On the contrary, the Infidels and Hypocrites become very much confused during the days of trouble and distress. They become very active to help the false and spurious for their personal advantage and to save their own lives.

Bear in mind that Allah Almighty never loves the tyrants and oppressors. You should never think that Allah Almighty loves the Idolaters because of which they acquired (casual) success in the Battle of ‘Uhud. On no account, it is like this, but there are some other causes of their success. One object of coming calamity upon the Muslims is too that Allah Almighty purifies the Believers and ruins the Infidels. Victory and defeat is a changing. Giving higher rank of martyrdom to the Muslims, to examine the Believers and Hypocrites, to purify the Muslims from sins and to ruin gradually the Infidels was the actual aim.

Today too when we observe that the Muslims have been suffering from the mountains of miseries and calamities, and the non-Muslim nations are in the way of prosperity and improvement, then some people begin to say, “they are better than us, Allah Almighty is contented to them, He is displeased upon us”. Whereas reality is different, actual aim is that the Muslims should assert more humility and weakness in the Court of Allah Almighty, they should repent of sins and try to correct their circumstances, so that the Infidels and the disobedient become target of Allah’s wrath and rage.

In short, there are four objects of trial and examination:

1.   Allah Almighty may know, “Who are the Believers and whose faith is strong”.

2.   Who present evidence of their belief?

3.   The Believers should be purified.

4.   The Infidels and the enemies of the religion should be destroyed.
