Questions by the People of the Scripture

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

153.  The People of the Scripture ask of thee that thou shouldst cause an (actual) Book to descend upon them from heaven; they asked a greater thing of Moses aforetime, for they said: Show us Allah plainly; the storm of lightning seized them for their wickedness. Then (even) after that, they chose the calf (for worship) after clear proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty) had come unto them; even then We forgave them that! And We bestowed on Moses evident authority.
153.  Yas-‘aluka  ‘Ahlul-Kitaabi  ‘an-  tunazzila  ‘alayhim  Kitaa-bam-minas-samaaa-‘i  faqad  sa-‘aluu  Muusaaa  ‘akbara  min-zaalika  faqaaluuu  ‘arinAllaaha  jah-ratan-  fa-‘akhazat-humus-saa-‘iqatu  bi-zulmihim.  Sum-matta- khazul-  ‘ijla  mim-  ba’-di  maa  jaaa-‘at-  humul-Bayyinaatu  fa- ‘afawna  ‘an-  zaalik.  Wa  ‘aataynaa  Muusaa  sul-taanam-mubiinaa.

    Commentary

‘Ari – (Show), this word has been made from ru-yah. Ru-yah means ‘to see’ and ‘araa-‘ah means ‘to show’.

‘As-saa-‘iqatu – (Lightening, heavenly electricity), it is from sa-‘aq, which means ‘to come down with force, to fall with pressure, to drop down unconsciously and instantly, to perish. Here it signifies towards lightning which falls with thunder.

In Madinah, some people of the Jews came unto Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon Him). They said, “Bring a written complete Scripture from the heaven instantly, if you are Messenger, as though Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) had brought complete Torah instantly. We are not convinced with such a Book, which is being revealed in very little parts. “. These verses were revealed as answer to their demand”. This description has been mentioned in this entire section.

In short, these all are their (of the Jews) evasions and pretenses. These people remained very much arrogant with Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them). Ask them, “Why did you not believe in Moses (peace be upon him) after that, when He came unto you with complete Torah; revealed instantly and proposed a demand like ill-behaved people? In addition to this, you committed improper and stupid actions of various sorts”.

Allah Almighty addresses to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), “Now they behave with you also likewise aforetime Messengers (peace be upon them). We tell you their rudeness with earlier Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) and some stupid deeds. They are very wicked and mischievous people. They were punished by various sorts. Due to fear of those chastisements, they used to accept some commandments, but after that they used to be as it were. As a punishment of the arrogance, lightening fell upon them and they died. Then due to supplication of Messenger Moses (peace be upon him) they returned to life. But they did not believe in God Almighty even after observing so much great tokens and began to worship a self-fabricated calf. Even then, they were forgiven and against them; Moses (peace be upon him) was glorified.

Grades of those who believe

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

152.  And those who believe in Allah and His messengers and make no distinction between any of them, unto them Allah will give their rewards. And Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Merciful.
152.  Wallaziina  ‘aamanuu  Billaahi  wa  RusuliHii  wa  lam  yufarriquu  bayna  ‘ahadim-minhum  ‘ulaaa-‘ika  sawfa  yu’-tii-him  ‘ujuu-rahum.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  Gafuurar-Rahiimaa.

    Commentary

It was discussed in the previous lesson that those people who never believe in Allah Almighty and His messengers (peace be upon them), and likewise those persons who seek to make distinction between Allah Almighty and His messengers (peace be upon them), that either they believe in Allah Almighty but do not believe in His messengers (peace be upon them), or believe in some and disbelieve in other messengers (peace be upon them), like this they seek to choose a new way in between that neither they have perfect belief and nor perfect infidelity. Such entire people are in the same category i.e. all are openly disbelievers.

They will be considered believers at such time when they will believe in Allah Almighty and His all messengers (peace be upon them) and do not disbelieve even in anyone of them. If they disbelieved in anyone of them, they will become disbelievers. Whether they use to say, “We believe in God and also believe in His messengers (peace be upon them), but they do not believe in the Last Messenger Muhammad Mustafaa (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Therefore; in accordance with the decision of Holy Qur’aan, they cannot be included in the believers.

The claim of the People of the Scripture that, “We shall not be punished. Our Messengers (peace be upon them) will save us” is useless. Because That God (Allah Almighty), Who sent earlier Moses (peace be upon them) and then Jesus Christ (peace be upon them) as Messengers of their times, now at the end of all, He has sent Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) as a last Messenger till the Day of Resurrection and bestowed on Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) the Last Word i.e. Holy Qur’aan. Those people who will not believe in His Apostleship, about them, it is decision of Holy Qur’aan that believing in Allah Almighty and His previous Messengers (peace be upon them) only will not be useful for them.

It has been described in this verse that only those persons are rightful to be called believers who believe in Allah Almighty and His entire Messengers (peace be upon them). For them; there are very grand and noble future rewards. The promises which have been mentioned in the Holy Qur’aan for them, those all will be fulfilled. The mercy and forgiveness of Allah Almighty is ready every time for them. In the Day of Resurrection, complete rest and unlimited comfort will be attainable by them.

It is very clear from this verse that Allah Almighty has sent His Messengers in every nation and every reign for the guidance of human beings. Every nation is required to believe in the Messenger of her era and all Messengers; prior to Him (peace be upon them), it is incumbent and necessary for all nations. Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is the Messenger for the present time. It is impossible to be saved without having belief in Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Perfect infidelity - Quran Chapter 4 -150 & 151 (Pt-6, Stg-1) (L-620) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 150 & 151 (Pt-6, Stg-1) (L-620) - درس قرآن

Perfect infidelity

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

150.  Lo! Those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers, and seek to make distinction between Allah and His messengers, and say: We believe in some and disbelieve in others, and seek to choose a way in between-

151.  Such are disbelievers in truth; and for disbelievers We have prepared a shameful doom.
150.  ‘Innal-laziina  yakfuruuna  Billaahi  wa  RusuliHii  wa  yurii-duuna  ‘any-yufarriquu  bay-nAllaahi  wa  RusuliHii  wa  yaquu-luuna  nu’-minu  biba’-zinw-wa  nakfuru  biba’-zinw-wa  yurii-duuna  ‘any-yattakhizuu  bayna  zaalika  sabiilaa.

151.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  humul-kaafi-ruuna haqqaa.  Wa  ‘a’-tadNaa  lil-kaafiriina  ‘azaabam-muhiinaa.

    Commentary

Yurii-duuna – this word has been made from ‘iraadah, which means ‘to wish, to seek, to plan, to mean, to intend’. Here it aims ‘they seek’.

Muhiinan – (shameful), it is from ‘ahaanat, which means ‘to abase, to insult’ i.e. that doom will make them abject and contemptible.

It was directed earlier that you cannot correct anyone by abusing or reproaching him/her. There is a risk in it that on the contrary; that person will become your enemy. However, it is not unreasonable for that person to reproach the tormentor/ oppressor, who is troubled. Decidedly if he/she has patience also, then it is a goodness, and if says a good word as retaliation of badness, then it will be a great goodness. And if he/she forgives the tormentor/oppressor, then Allah Almighty will give him/her its reward and forgive his/her sins.

Again; condition of those disbelievers has been described in these verses, and because maximum hypocrites were either Jews of Madinah or those people who had deep association with them, so in the description of hypocrites, the Jews have been mentioned, but name of anyone out of them has not been disclosed. After telling about some deeds, the order has been caused to hear. They should ponder about themselves, upon whom this description comes fit, and if they wish to be correct, they should act upon these instructions, otherwise they will be punished due to their wicked deeds.

It has been described that those people who do not believe in either Allah Almighty and His Messengers (peace be upon them) or believe in Allah Almighty but do not believe in His Messengers (peace be upon them), or believe in some and disbelieve in others and they want to choose a new way in between the Belief and the Infidelity, they should hear carefully with open ears that there is no doubt in their infidelity. While they are infidels, they shall taste the torment, because Allah Almighty has already prepared a shameful doom for the disbelievers, which will not leave them without disgracing and abasing. Only believing in God Almighty has no reality without having belief in the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon Him) and acting upon His (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon Him) Sayings.

Way of correction - Quran Chapter 4 -148 & 149 (Pt-6, Stg-1) (L-619) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 148 & 149 (Pt-6, Stg-1) (L-619) - درس قرآن

Way of correction

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

148.  Allah loveth not the utterance of harsh speech save by one who hath been wronged. And Allah is ever Hearer, Knower.

149.  If ye do good openly or keep it secret, or forgive evil, lo! Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Powerful.
148.  LAA  YUHIBBULLAAHUL-jahra  bissuuu-‘i  minal-qawli  ‘illaa  man-  zulim.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  Samii-‘an  ‘Aliimaa.

149.  ‘In-  tubduu  khayran  ‘aw  tukh-fuuhu  ‘aw  ta’-fuu  ‘an-  suuu-‘in-  fa-‘innAllaaha  kaana  ‘afuwwan-  Qadiiraa.

    Commentary

Jahra – (to utter loudly, to disclose).

Tubduu – (do openly), it is from ‘abdaaa’, which means ‘doing some work openly, manifest’.

Tukh-fuuhu – (keep it secret), it is from ‘akhfaa, which means ‘secrecy, concealment’.

Ta’-fuu – (Forgive it), it is from ‘ufuu. Ma-‘aaf and ma-‘aafii all are from the same origin, which means ‘to forgive, to pardon, to excuse’. ‘Afuw-wun is also from it, which means ‘Forgiving, who excuses’.

‘Al-jahra  bissuuu-‘i  minal-qawli – (to utter the harsh speech), to describe the badness of anyone openly before the people or to say such a thing about any person, which is a scandal, an infamy for him/her.

Allah Almighty has manifested very clearly this reality that He does not like to disclose the badness of any mankind. It is evident that here it does not mean that this description is about ‘false accusation or calumny, but it aims only ‘badness’, proclamation of which has been forbidden. There is possibility of spreading the badness additionally due to its disclosure and public exposure. If we shall mention the badness of any person in his/her absence, that will be backbiting, detraction. If we shall say in front of that person, that will become cause of cruelty. Only the tyrannized person has right that he/she can speak against the tyrant and proclaim about his evils and badness.

As far as about the goodness, there is choice, either you may hide or disclose it, because due to its disclosure, you will persuade others for goodness and due to its concealment, hypocrisy /pretense will not born into you. At the end, it is commanded that if you forgive the badness, that is better. Allah Almighty has Power over entire affairs Himself and is Forgiving. If He forgives, in spite of being Powerful, then why do you not do so?
