Ill-behavior with the Prophets

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

9.  And if We had thus appointed Him (Our Messenger) an angel, We assuredly would have made him (as) a man (that he might speak to men); and thus We would have confused them in matter wherein they are now confused.

10.  And certainly Messengers (of Allah) have been derided before Thee, but that whereat they scoffed surrounded such of them as did deride.
9.  Wa  law  ja-‘alNaahu  malakal-laja-‘al-Naahu  rajulanw-wa  la-labas-Naa  ‘alay-himmaa  yal-bisuun.

10.  Wa  laqadis-tuhzi-‘a  birusu-lim-min  qablika  fa-haaqa  bil-laziina  sakhiruu  minhum-maa  kaanuu  bihii  yas-tahzi-‘uun.

Commentary

There is a description in this verse about the appearance of an Angel (peace be upon Him) in the form of a man, and actually it is the form, in which, an Angel (peace be upon Him) can guide the human being. But it is not useful, because: How will they know that it is an Angel, whereas outward form of the Angel would be of a man? How will they then believe that He is an Angel, not a man? They will say even at that time too, that if the Angel had come, then we would have believed, as they are saying now.

It is commanded: If We send down an Angel to guide them, even then, He (peace be upon Him) can do His work only in the form of a man. When He (peace be upon Him) will come in to them and dwell among them like a man, due to this reason, even at that time, they will have a chance to say: We would have believed, if it were an Angel. They would have pretended not to believe, even at that time, as they are evading now.

Next, it is commanded that in fact, believing in the Messengers (peace be upon Them) is not acceptable to them. Even they deride them (peace be upon Them) and do not give any importance to their teachings. O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! It is not any new matter for them. Certainly before You, the Messengers (peace be upon Them) of their own times, have been derided, but it was their result that whereat they scoffed, surrounded such of them as did deride, that is to say; those matters were proved as true, of which they used to deride. They suffered painful due to not believing. And the calamities of disobedience besieged them from all around.

These matters are being admonished to the people of Makkah. But alas! Even then, they did not believe. At last, they were destroyed and Islam got success.

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

8.  They say: Why hath not an angel been sent down unto him? If, We sent down an angel, then the matter would be judged; then no further time would be allowed them (for reflection).
8.  Wa  qaaluu  law-laaa  ‘unzila  ‘alay-hi  malak.  Wa  law  ‘an-zalNaa  malakal-laquzi-yal-’amru  summa  laa  yun-zaruun.

Commentary

It was discussed in the lesson of previous verse that Islam does not approve to agree the people for embracing Islam by showing them amazing miracles. There is a reply of disbeliever’s question/command in this verse and the next to this verse, that the Message of Allah Almighty should be brought down by an Angel (peace be upon Him) before their eyes.

It is commanded that if an Angel (peace be upon Him) is sent down, even then, they denied believing by making evasions, as the fear comes from their perverseness, then it would not be good for them, because it is impossible that they may live safe and sound for a sometime as disbelievers after arrival of the Angel (peace be upon Him) before them. At that time, if they will disbelieve, they will be destroyed without any further delay. There will be no form of postponement of their destruction.

Therefore, they should take it a blessing of Allah Almighty that the Angel (peace be upon Him) comes secretly only unto the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and conveys the Message of Allah Almighty up to the people by means of Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), value of which, these people do not know.

It is by the fortune of not coming the Angle (peace be upon Him) openly, that they are living still, notwithstanding their Infidelity and denial. And their punishment is being postponed. Otherwise, it is the end of the story, after appearance of the Angel (peace be upon Him).

There can be three forms of the Angel’s appearance:

1.    He (peace be upon Him) can come in His original form.

2.    He (peace be upon Him) may appear in the form of any natural sight, for instance; flood, earthquake, dust, a storm of wind or rain etc.

3.    He (peace be upon Him) may appear as a mankind.

The human being has not endurance to see Him (peace be upon Him) in case of His first form. Only the Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) saw the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon Him) twice in His actual form, due to which, a horror prevailed over the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). If someone else will see, his gall-bladder will be cracked due to fear.

In the second form too, if the people believed timely after knowing the signs and changed from past evils, perhaps they would be saved, as the folk of Prophet Jonah (peace be upon Him) was saved, otherwise surely, they will be ruined.

Commentary

The Sayings of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) were totally disagreeable to the people of Makkah. It was unacceptable to them that the people should listen to and follow Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). They used to give Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) orders of various sorts to frustrate in one way or the other to make Him bound again of old customs in practice like themselves.

It was not sanctioned by Allah Almighty that the people should be admitted in the Religion Islam by showing them miracles and supernatural powers, and terrifying them or fulfilling their commands, because Islam is a natural religion and own sense of the human being is sufficient to inquire into its qualities.

Once, they said: Bring down a written upon parchment Book duly caused to be lifted by Angels of the heaven (peace be upon Them) and put it up before us, then we shall believe that You are really a Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). They have been replied in this verse.

It is commanded: Suppose, if We send down actual Book, written upon parchment duly caused to be lifted by the Angels (peace be upon Them) and they observe it coming down with their open eyes, even they satisfy themselves by feeling it with their hands that really it is a Book, which is not a game of only confinement of eyes, even then, they will not believe, because their such commands are not for removing their doubts. Moreover, their aim is to make the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) confused, so that He may be quiet spontaneously.

Then Allah Almighty says: If You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) did as they wished, even then they have sufficient impostures not to believe. At least, their pretense that, this Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is a magician; is ready every time for their immediate saying.

It is evident that the Religion Islam was not for the time being, that the people were admitted contrary to the custom by showing them miracles, but It guides clearly the human being for the entire deeds, which are necessary to be done during the life time in the world (forever), in the light of Holy Qur’aan, because Islam has A Complete Code in every field of Life. Now that person will repent, who will do contrary to It.

Commentary

Qarn – (a period of nearly 100 to 120 years, a century, an age or hour etc.), its plural is qaruun. In this lesson and the lesson before this, it aims the people, who were living before this period, so it has been translated as ‘generation’.

It was advised in the previous lesson: You should think on the condition of those generations, which were living before you, who acquired good influence during their own times. They possessed everything like power, property and wealth etc. whereas you do not have the power and vigor as much as We bestowed on them. Their income was in abundance. It used to rain timely, plentifully and constantly. Resultantly, the gardens and husbandries were green.

It has been described in this verse that the rivers used to flow beneath the trees on the earth near their palaces. The grain and the fruit used to grow abundantly. The entire useful things were their obedient. In the presence of so much great blessings, goods and property, they were required to remain every time engaged in thankfulness of the real Benefactor i.e. Allah Almighty, and be saved from His disobedience. They were also required to follow His Messengers (peace be upon Them) and dwell like the pious people.

They began to fulfill their bestial desires being proud of their power, property and wealth. They cast the command of Allah Almighty behind, did not regard the admonition and preaching of His Beloved Messengers (peace be upon Them) and were entangled in the wicked and evil deeds. At last, it was the result that Allah Almighty destroyed them due to punishment of their evil deeds and even that He deleted their names from the world. Then He created other generations at their places, which began to dwell there.

If we can get any gain from the history and circumstances of the ancient people/generations, that is, we should do good works by following their good works, and whatsoever they committed wrong and suffered punishments as retaliation of their wicked deeds, keeping it in view, we should escape from such bad acts.

Nowadays, the people, who are influenced by outward show, say: The accidents in the life of the world are not unusual. What is their relation with the bad acts of the human being? But it has been mentioned clearly, over and over in the Holy Qur’aan and the Sayings (‘Ahaadith) of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that calamities and disasters come in the world due to wicked acts and sins of the humankind, and the doom will be due to them after death.

We should act upon the commands of Holy Qur’aan and the Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and be saved from the sins and evil deeds.

Commentary

We learnt in the verse before this: Holy Qur’aan is a Revelation of the Revelations of Allah Almighty. Main difference between other Revelations and the Holy Qur’aan is that, other all Revelations tell nothing in words about themselves. It depends upon the person, who recites Them that, what he understands. But Holy Qur’aan is such a Holy Word of Allah Almighty, which explains Itself clearly everything about Itself. Moreover, It is the tongue of the world’s entire tongue-less Tokens of Allah Almighty. It narrates about them and causes to draw attention not only towards them, which are present, but also towards those Revelations, which have elapsed previously and the people have forgotten them.

The aim of discussion about it is that the people of the present era should know completely Allah Almighty and His Divine Power. It has been commanded in this verse that the people should think about the time, which was over before them. Many other nations used to live in this world before us. Allah Almighty bestowed upon them too much powers and strength, which are not found in the existing people. He caused to rain for them timely and constantly, and made them owners of the land’s production along with other Divine Favors.

Truly, the Holy Qur’aan is very strong source to know Allah Almighty, as it is compulsory to know Him. No doubt, any of the wise man can get knowledge of Allah Almighty through meditation in everything of the world but it cannot be expected that everyone will meditate too much. Only the Holy Qur’aan is such a Revelation, which does not remit any excuse for the human being to remain ignorant from Allah Almighty. First of all, Its own existence of a peculiar form in the world (being in its original form with effect from its Revelation) is a Token like other tokens. Secondly, It explains everything regarding Itself in Its own Words. Then, the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is existing, Who conveyed and caused to understand It. Even now, if anybody does not know Allah Almighty and His Divine Power, then more sorrow and wonder will be considered as very less upon his condition.

5.  And they denied the Truth when it came unto them. But there will come unto them the tidings of that which they used to deride.
5.  Faqad kazza-buu  bil-Haqqi  lammaa  jaaa-‘ahum.  Fa-sawfa  ya’-tiihim  ‘ambaaa-‘u  maa  kaanuu  bihii  yas-tahzi-‘uun.

Commentary

It was described in the previous verses that these indolent persons turn away from the Revelation which comes before them and do not have any regard for it, though, if they meditate in it and try to understand, then it can be understood easily by them that the Creator of this entire world and the other world beyond from it, is only One, Allah Almighty. He is the Owner of the entire creatures and everywhere His name is Allah (Almighty), which means “The True Worshipped”.

It is commanded in this verse that in reality, the wise person shall believe in Allah Almighty certainly by thinking about the incidents, which happen in the heavens and in the earth, but it is possible that either he may not find the time to look at them closely due to carelessness or the time is available but he remains busy in playing and does not intend to know the reality. Even then, such a strong token has come unto them, which can neither be denied, nor there is any accommodation of doubt to reject it, because along with that token, a Warner (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has also come. And it is His duty to cause to engage the attention of the people to this side, and teach them that particular Token. That Token is Holy Qur’aan and bearer of that Token is Last Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Every verse of the Holy Qur’aan witnesses that Allah Almighty is A True God Almighty, and manifests the Truth and the Reality. Then, the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is present to teach about it. After all, there is no excuse to turn away from the biggest Sign i.e. Holy Qur’aan, which exists in its original form. If anyone turns away then, there cannot be any other reason of turning away from it, but the perverseness.

After that, those people have been threatened from the severe punishments, who do not believe in it. It is commanded that those people denied a True Scripture due to stubbornness. But they should bear in mind that the Doomsday is not too much away from them, when they would have to face a very distressed punishment for their evil deeds and disbelief. Surely, every Command of this Scripture shall be accomplished, and they shall weep on their denial from the Truth and enjoy the taste of their arrogance.

The tidings of two kinds of punishment have been explained in the Holy Qur’aan for its disbelievers; the worldly punishment as well as the punishment on the Day of Resurrection. It has been proclaimed so clearly for the certainty of both kinds of punishments that there was no difficulty for the wise people in understanding it. But the infidels did not believe. Later on, they suffered in the world for which they were warned. So everyone should be certain that the punishment of the Day of Resurrection is beyond the question too.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

  وَمَاتَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ ءَايَةٍ مِّنْ ءَايَٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا۟ عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ 4

3.  He is Allah in the heavens and in the earth. He knoweth both your secret and your utterance, and He knoweth what ye earn.

4.  Never comes there unto them a Revelation of the Revelations of Allah but they turn away from it.
3.  Wa  HuWAllaahu  fis-samaa-waati  wa  fil-‘arz.  Ya’-lamu  sirrakum  wa  jahrakum  wa  Ya’-lamu  maa  taksibuun.

4.  Wa  maa  ta’-tiihim-min  ‘Aayatim-min  ‘Aayaati  Rabbihim  ‘illaa  kaanuu  ‘anhaa  mu’-riziin.

Commentary

It was explained in the previous verses that Praise be to Allah Almighty (the entire excellence are only of God Almighty)If any excellence, beauty or quality is seen anywhere and in anything, that is not personal of that individual or thing. But that is a refulgence of any Virtue of Allah Almighty. The earth, the entire skies and even everything, which exists into them, those all have been created also by Allah Almighty. Some of them are appointed as good for you and some of them are bad for you. Allah Almighty is the Creator of the humankind too and He has fixed a time of their life. Then the human being departs.

The mankind should understand from it that the length of time for existence of the entire world has been determined also. Then, it will be ruined. After that, the aim is to cause to understand the mankind that the human beings will be brought to life again and an account of their deeds, which were done by them in the world, will be reckoned from him. So it has been described after telling the Divine Power of Allah Almighty and His overcoming upon the entire that humankind cannot reject the decision of Allah Almighty.

It is commanded that Allah Almighty is Existing everywhere in the heavens and in the earth, and there Is only His Sovereignty everywhere also. He knows your secret and utterance, whether those are very little, and He knows also that, what you do. He has spread His Signs in the entire world and has revealed his Holy Word, which is the biggest token. The person, who will reason and think upon these verses, certainly will understand His Divine Power and Strength. Then what is wrong with those people, who turn away from such tokens, which either they observe in the form of Signs of the Divinity of Allah Almighty or recite in the verses of Holly Qur’aan, and do not understand a little its meanings? If the human beings think, they may know that the only purpose of their creation is that they should know Allah Almighty and worship only Him.
