Proper use of sense - Quran Chapter 6 – 39 (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-808) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 6 – 39 (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-808) - درس قرآن

Proper use of sense

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

39.  And those who deny Our Revelations are deaf and dumb in darkness. Whom Allah will, He sendeth astray. And whom He will, He placeth on a Straight Path
39.  Wallaziina  kazzabuu  bi- ‘AayaatiNaa  summunw-wa  bukmun  fiz-zulumaat.  Many-ya-sha-‘Illaahu  yuzlilh.  Wa  many-yashaaa’  yaj-‘alhu  ‘alaa  Siraatim- Mustaqiim.

Commentary

It was commanded in the previous verse: Every creature has been given sufficient wisdom to go on its Established Path, due to which, it understands the portents of that Path and chooses It. For the humankind, the Path has also been established, as well as it’s Portents too, and the verses of Holy Qur’aan have cleared it. The sense, how much is necessary to understand them, has been given to the human beings.

Now, if the mankind does not understand by means of his sense, then it is his own negligence. Allah Almighty has already dictated about the portents of their paths separately in writing for the entire creature and has given sufficient wisdom for knowing them and He has neglected nothing out of them. The condition of those people has been described in this verse, who falsify the verses of Holy Qur’aan and do not wish to understand the portents of the Path.

It is commanded that those people, who deny the Revelations of Allah Almighty and do not use their sense, which has been bestowed to them by Allah Almighty, as though, they switched off that Light, which was useful for them to see the Path and its portents might be visible by them, and the darkness spread over all around for them.

At this stage, it was compulsory for them that, while they were unable to observe anything, they would have to know the Path by listening to the other people, and if they have become hard-hearing, then they would have asked from the other people themselves about the Path. While they switched off the Light of their wisdom, neither hear the talk of others and nor ask from other people about the Path, then it is obvious that they are deaf and dumb in darkness.

In this situation, now there is no chance of guidance for them. At the other side, Allah Almighty has the Power; whom He will, He sends him astray. And whom He will, He places him on a Straight Path. While they have shut the entire doors of guidance upon themselves, then what has remained more for them except the depravity? So, Allah Almighty sent them astray, because it is the Rule established by Allah Almighty: Anyone who takes up one’s condition as; is treated accordingly with.

It is known from this verse that the human being, either go straight forward by using own sense, or act upon the advice, which hear from the wise people, or if he is unable to understand, then ask himself about the Correct Path and know, otherwise, he is a devil entangled in darkness, deaf and dumb.

Commentary

Asking for any portent from the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) by the idolaters of Makkah did not mean that really they were desirous of believing. But they wished that the portent of any such peculiar thing should be demanded, from fulfilling of which, the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) might become helpless and give up preaching of Islam, so that they might live their own way of life, of which they had been addicted, and enjoy reveling according to their desires.

It was commanded in the previous verses: O Messenger! Do not hope that they will believe by observing the open portent. Their purpose is that they may keep anyhow their present condition up i.e. idol-worshipping, infidelity and disbelieving. Demanding a portent is only for evading, otherwise, those Revelations are sufficient for the wise people, which We have revealed. There is no need of more clear portents than them. Many of them do not understand this matter, but there are enough signs in the verse of today’s lesson for those, who wish to understand.

It is commanded that there are hundreds kinds of creature like moving animals in the earth, flying creature flying on two wings in the air and the creature of the sea. Every creature of them is as such a nation, as human beings. We have established separate principles of living in the world for every kind of nation. And We have neglected nothing in the Book (of Our Decrees). At the end, they entire will be gathered unto their Lord Almighty. He will treat them in the manner, which will be the demand of His Wisdom and Mercy.

It can be understood from this discussion that a separate way of living has been established in the world for every nation of the creatures. How much sense is required for understanding that particular way for any particular nation, has been given by Allah Almighty. That sense is sufficient to know those portents.

Likewise, according to this rule such Revelations, Tokens and Portents have also been established for human being, which can be known by the mankind’s wisdom and sense easily, and a man can go straight way by observing them. These people demand rare portents, for instance; they say: Cause to flow a spring before us by tearing the land, or Rise on the sky in front of our eyes, bring down a Book from there and put It before us etc.

The sense and wisdom stands useless in their recognition. Making the sense useless is against the human nature. Portents are revealed during all times in accordance with the improvement of human wisdom. Present time is the most improved time of human sense, so the portents have been sent down according to it.

Commentary

In those days, when Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) came in the world, nearly the human beings of the entire world had been going wrong and passing their lives like wild animals, forgetting the human characteristics. Powerful people had become ferocious. They used to deal with the weak and the poor as with sheep and goat. Greedy eyes of everyone used to rise towards comfortable and tasteful things of the world. Every person wished that the entire things should come under his and his followers’ control, and remaining entire people should dwell as their slaves and servants. They should serve the powerful people like oxen, horses and donkeys.

The same condition was also in the Arab territory. Some people had become rich and powerful, but they could not make others their slaves completely. So, Islam, which desires equality and equation among the entire human beings, was required to be started from the Arab territory only, because some glare of freedom had come there into sight.

This lesson of Islam “All human beings are equal (among themselves) mutually”, caused to startle the effectual and wealthy people of Makkah, and they saw clearly the death of their honor and magnificence. Therefore, they decided to oppose the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

After describing this condition of their deception, it has been replied. Sometimes they used to say: Any Angel would have come as Messenger from Allah. At some other times they used to say: Bring down any portent if you are a Messenger, so that everyone may believe in you at once.

It is commanded that the disbelievers demand any extraordinary portent from You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Tell them that Allah Almighty is Able to send down any portent according to your demands, but this demand is a proof of your stupidity. Maximum of you are such people, who are totally un-aware of the principles and rules, in accord with which the world has been created. The wisdom and sense has been bestowed to the mankind more than all other creatures, and the entire world has been filled with such portents, to which, if the human being reflect a little, can recognize immediately. The humankind is not as a donkey, which can understand only with a whip or stick, which does not understand the language of signs. Your claim of clear portent is against the humanity. It can be said by any donkey only: Beat me with a stick, if you want to take any work from me, without it I will never work.

Quran Chapter 6 – 36 (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-805) - درس قرآن

Sense is sufficient for acceptance

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

36.  Only those can accept who hear. And as for the dead, Allah will raise them up; then unto Him they will be returned.
36.  ‘Innamaa  yastajii-bul-laziina  yasma-‘uun.  Wal-mawtaa  yab-‘asu-humUllaahu  summa  ‘ilayhi  yurja-‘uun.

Commentary

This verse is an explanation of that Natural Law, towards which, it was signified in the previous verse. That is to say; “it is not the purpose to make everyone Believer by force”. If Allah Almighty willed, He would not have made the minds of entire human beings separate for everyone. Also, He would have made all together in such manner that none might be gone astray but the Straight Path. Nobody would have been given the power of choice.

It is evident that the person, whose heart inclines towards the desires of the world, will never believe, whether he/she is admonished as much as possible. The desires make the ear of the human being hard of hearing. He/she hears nothing but only the word of his own interest. He/she is slave of his/her own business and lives for it only. The ear of such dead people will be opened only on the Day of Resurrection, but then, it will be useless for them.

It is useful if that message and command of Allah Almighty is obeyed in the world, which His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has caused to hear in the world i.e. Holy Qur’aan and His Sayings. If they did neither accept nor obey then after death, certainly they will be produced before Allah Almighty after bringing them to life. Everything will be evident over them. But that Day’s belief will be useless. They would have to suffer for the disobedience, which they committed in the world. Engage your attention in the meaning of this verse by keeping it under consideration.

It is commanded: Don’t desire from the people with expectation that they will obey you, because only those people will obey you, whose ear have not been closed by their desires. Those persons, who have shut up their ear from listening to the Truth and taken no account of it, they have been as dead and gone. As if they were dead from all other directions in spite of that thing, which took their heart, and they will die keeping their impure worldly wishes in their hearts. And then they will be raised again after bringing to life and produced before Allah Almighty.

At that time, their ear will be opened fully and properly. There is an answer to an evasion of the disbelievers, which they used to say to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): You would have such clear tokens that nobody may deny them. Summary of the answer is: If you wish to believe, believe by observing only these tokens, which are before you. The verses of Holy Qur’aan are brightest and most clear tokens of them. These are the verses, in which the attention has been drawn towards those entire Revelations, which have been spread in the whole world. If you desire more clear Revelations than these, then this world will not remain only “The Place of Test”. Believing in the Revelations will become compulsory.

Commentary

The Messenger of Allah Almighty was satisfied in the verse of previous lesson that if these people consider You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) a liar, then it means that they neglect the Revelations of Allah Almighty, whereas He has revealed the verses of Holy Qur’aan and showed them Signs of His Divine Power in the world also for the purpose that the people may recognize Allah Almighty by thinking into them deeply and obey His Commandments. Allah Almighty has set this way for guidance of the human being in this world that He has fixed symbols and tokens of the straight path, and by giving the sense to the human being, set him free, so that by observing these signs and symbols, he would recognize and adopt the right path himself. If he will not go straight forward, then Allah Almighty will punish him for going astray.

The entire Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) had been patient on the disobedience and Allah Almighty helped Them. The Infidels used to say: Why the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) do not have any such token, by observing which, the humankind would be compelled to believe and may not be able to deny? The lesson in this verse is that in such a way, there is no need to force any individual to be a Believer.

It is commanded that You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) are unpleasant due to their turning away and disbelieving in the truth. And You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) want to seek any such thing for their guidance from; either inside the earth or from above the skies, before which they bow their heads and all of them believe. It is possible but it is against the prescribed rules of Allah Almighty.

If Allah Almighty wished, He was Able to make the entire humankind believers, as none could go astray, that is to say; there would have been only one way i.e. the straight path. So, O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! Keep this rule secret and understand it thoroughly that it is not the purpose to make everyone Believer by force. Your (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) only duty is to admonish them, whether anyone obeys it or otherwise.

Think not to seek a way down into the earth or a ladder unto the sky that Thou mayst bring unto them a portent to convince them all. And if Allah had willed, He would have brought them all together to the guidance. “We just have to see that who adopts the right path with own common sense”.

Commentary

It was known well from the verse of previous lesson that how much well-wishing and fellow-feeling was filled in the heart of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) for the human beings. And He grieved and mourned very much, when He used to observe the people gone back from the Straight Path, just like a kind father grieves, when he sees his children entangled in prolix talks and turned away from the useful matters, but very excessive than it, because any father of children cannot know too much about the real useful matter, which Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) knows.

It is revealed that as much any person will be aware of the Reality, so much will he grieve on the stupidities of others. How much Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon Them) came in this world, maximum of them remained overtaken by this grief and trouble that their nations considered them as liars due to their own ignorance. Heartily they faced grief as well as the stupid people put them in different sorts of troubles. But they used to be patient and bear their ill-treatment.

At last, Allah Almighty helped His Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon Them) against the wicked-doers according to the Rule. It appears clearly from Holy Qur’aan that at the end, the wicked people could not succeed. Those people who afflict and disobey the Messengers (peace be upon Them), are not opposing the Messengers (peace be upon Them), but have enmity with Allah Almighty.

Whether they are seen successful apparently, at last, the Rage of God Almighty will surround them and they will be ruined very badly. Allah Almighty says: O Messenger! The Messengers (peace be upon Them) indeed have been denied before You, and They were patient under the denial and the persecution, which is main cause of the grief, till Our succor reached Them and the Messengers (peace be upon Them) won, whereas Their enemies were defeated.

Verily already there has reached You O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) somewhat of the tidings of the Messengers (peace be upon Them) We (Allah Almighty) sent before. You will know from those tidings about the consequence of those people, who opposed the Messengers/Prophets (peace be upon Them). How the Messengers (peace be upon Them) succeed always against their enemies, who were actually enemies of Allah Almighty?

Commentary

It was described in the previous verse that the entire things/creatures of the world are naught save a pastime and a sport. As any intelligent person will not like to pass his whole the time in a sport or game, similarly, every wise person considers it foolishness to remain involved every time in the works of the world.

The Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) used to grieve at the time of observing the people engaged in this folly. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) had more kindness and favor for the human beings in His heart than a father, who has kindness and favor in his heart for his children.

None is sympathizer of the humankind equal to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Whenever, He used to observe the people wasting their precious time in prolix speaking like the ignorant children, whereas they would have to do such works, which would be useful for them in the world, Hereafter and on the Day of Resurrection, then His heart (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) used to be grieved.

Allah Almighty consoled His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): O Messenger! Don’t be grieved, nor feel sorrow, and have faith that due to disbelieving in Your Messenger-hood, actually they are going to confront Allah Almighty, and considering those verses and tokens false, which He has revealed in the world to prove You the True Messenger. They are, in fact, opposing Allah Almighty.

Allah Almighty addresses His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) in this verse: We know well how their talk and deeds grieve You. But their presumptuousness and stupid-ness will never end. Therefore feeling sorrow upon them is like hurting Your soul Yourself. You should take it as “Apparently they are saying to you a liar” but actually they are flouting the Revelations and verses sent down by Allah Almighty. So certainly they will be punished by Him. Their case should be given up for decision by Allah Almighty.

They have made themselves blameworthy at fault and offenders in two ways.

1.    Disobedience of Allah Almighty openly.

2.    Giving pain to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) by their behavior.

O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! You should have patience. Surely Allah Almighty will punish them very severely, if they did not abstain. It is known clearly from this verse that the person, who does not follow the Commands of Allah Almighty, mentioned in Holy Qur’aan and the Sayings of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), has been hurting the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).
