Forbidden things

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

145.  Say: I find not in that which is revealed unto Me aught prohibited to an eater that he eat thereof, except it be carrion, or blood poured forth, or swine-flesh - for that verily is unclean - or the abomination which was immolated to the name of other than Allah. But whoso is compelled (thereto), neither craving nor transgressing, (for him) lo! Thy Lord is Forgiving, Merciful.
145.  Qul-laaa  ‘ajidu  fii  maaa  ‘uuhi-ya  ‘i-layya  muharraman  ‘alaa  taa-‘iminy-yat  ‘amuhuuu  ‘illaaa  ‘any-yakuuna  may-tatan  ‘aw  damam-mas-fuuhan  ‘aw lahma  khin-ziirin-  fa-‘innahuu  rijsun  ‘aw fisqan  ‘u-hilla  ligay-RIllaahi  bih.  Famaniz-turra  gayra  baaginw-wa  laa  ‘aadin-  fa-‘inna  RabbaKa  Gafuurur-Rahiim.

Commentary

Fisqun – (the abomination, against the Law, evil deeds), actually it means “crossing the limits of the law and evildoing. Faasiq means evildoer, sinful. Here fisqan aims – that animal, which has been slaughtered invalidly.

‘U-hilla – (immolated, sacrificed, proclaimed and called aloud upon), it is past passive voice tense, origin of which is ‘ahlaal and made from – h-l-l, which means “to manifest, to appear”. The word hilaal has been derived from it, which means “the moon of the first night, which appears after three moonless nights)”. ‘Ahlaal means “to call aloud and openly, to proclaim”. It aims “such animal, which either has been nominated to the name of any other than Allah or the name of any other than Allah was called aloud at the time of its slaughtering”.

Baagin – (the disobedient), actually this word is baaghii, which has been derived from the word baghaawat. Bagaawat means “to disobey the order of someone. Here it aims “the disobedient of Allah Almighty”.

‘Aadin – Actually this word is ‘Aadii, which is made from ‘adwaan. It means “to go out of bounds and to transgress”

Allah Almighty commands to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that He should say to the people: You have no authority to fix anything lawful or forbidden for food. It is in the Power of Allah Almighty to determine anything lawful or forbidden. The things, about which, it has been revealed unto Me (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that those cannot be taken as food, some of those are as under:

·         The carrion (meat of any dead animal)

·         The blood poured forth (flowing blood)

·         The swine-flesh, because that verily is unclean

·         The abomination which (the animal) is immolated to the name of any other than Allah Almighty i.e. any spiritual guide, idols or gods.

Four forbidden things were discussed in the first Section of Chapter (Surah‘Al-Maa-‘idah. It is their explanation.

Commentary

Allah Almighty addressed to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that He should ask the idolaters: How have you come to know that these cattle are forbidden, because the knowledge needs authority. If you are true, then which Prophet or Messenger has described you about this unlawfulness?

Likewise; Allah Almighty created four in two pair i.e. male and female camels; and of the cows twain. Ask them about these animals also: Whether Allah Almighty has forbidden their males or females or those which are in the wombs of their females? Quote authority from any Scripture sent down by Allah Almighty, if any Prophet or Messenger (peace be upon Him) has told you. If not so, then expound to Me; were you present at that time when Allah Almighty had forbidden them and did you hear it with your own ear? If the matter is not as you say, then you should explain it: Who is more violent than that person, who calumniates falsely against the name of Allah Almighty and says about a thing that Allah Almighty has forbidden it, whereas that has not been forbidden by Him?

Then it is commanded: While it has been proved by means of their tricks and wicked deeds that they are unjust in all respect and they do not have any ability to understand the truth and go Straight Path, then how can they be guided? Allah Almighty has determined this Rule that He does not guide them, who are not able to do well.

Those people have been rejected very clearly in this verse, who make the things lawful or forbidden upon themselves with their self-invented pretenses and tricks without any authority. And it has also come to know that there are two ways to obtain the certain knowledge; either any reliable person should tell, or the individual have to listen or see himself. Therefore, those Commands which exist in Holy Qur’an are sure because those have been given to us by the last Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), telling about them that those are True. And there is no one in the world more Trustworthy than Him.

Commentary

Hamuu-latun – (the cattle, which are bearer of the burden), grammatically this word is an adjective, which has been derived from hamal. Hamal means “to lift the burden”. Here it aims such animals, which are used as the means of conveyance, as transport like camels, donkeys and mules etc.

Farshun – (those cattle which are of little height), literally farshun means bed-clothes, carpets etc. Here it aims “the cattle, which are of little height as the sheep and goats etc. because the height of these cattle is nearly close to the earth”.

‘Ammaa – actually this word is a collection of two words - ‘am and maa. After mixing the both words, it is “read and written” as ‘ammaa collectively. ‘am means “or” and maa means “which”.

‘Ish-timaalun – (to cling, to embrace, enwind), this word has been derived from shamala, which means “to cover anything, hiding inside”. ‘Ish-timaal means “to be wrapped around an object and hide it inside oneself” as a wearing shawl is wrapped around and it covers the body. Here it has been described that “before the birth of a child, the womb of the female keeps it enwrapped inside”. That womb is called raham, plural of which is ‘arhaam.

Allah Almighty created the quadruped animals also for the mankind, out of which; some animals are useful for conveying the load and bearing the burden. These types of animals are tall in height, whereas some animals like cattle have a little height. You should eat the meat of those cattle, of which; it is eaten and drink the milk of those animals, of which; it is drunk.

Allah Almighty commanded to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): Ask from the idolaters! That which you make some cattle forbidden or lawful to eat in the name of idols, tell about them! Where Allah Almighty has commanded to do so?

There are eight in numbers of these cattle in (four) pairs as a whole including male and female; two of sheep, two of goats and remaining two pairs will come later. Tell Me (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) now: Whether Allah Almighty has forbidden the male from them or female or those which their bellies contain? What the right you have to make any of those cattle forbidden or lawful to eat, if He has not commanded so?

Favors of Allah

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

141.  And He it is Who produceth gardens trellised and un-trellised, and the date-palm, and crops of divers flavor, and the olive and the pomegranate, like and unlike. Eat ye of the fruit thereof when it fruiteth, and pay the due thereof upon the harvest day, and be not prodigal. Lo! Allah loveth not the prodigals-
‘InnaHuu  laa  yuhibbul-musrifiin.

Commentary

Ma’-ruu-shaatin – (trellised), this word is plural of ma’-ruu-shatah, which is (grammatically) the passive participle effeminate and has been derived from the word ‘Arsh. ‘Arsh means “to elevate, to uplift the creepers over wooden trellis as grapes plants are uplifted over the wooden frames duly fenced in the form of roof. Gayra  ma’-ruu-shaatin are those creeping plants, which are not uplifted like the plants of melon, water melon etc. which spread on the ground or those plants which have stems (trees).

Hasaadun – collecting the fruit and grains together in one place, when those ripen.

Haqqun – here it aims - that portion of the production, which should be separated for the poor and needy people.

The manifest blessings and favors of Allah Almighty have been mentioned in this verse. Every mankind can understand them with a little attention and from them, he can recognize Allah Almighty. Those people have been caused to understand in it, who revere others leaving Him (God) and separate the portion of their (idols and gods) names from their fruit, grains and food, whereas neither those liar gods and idols did produce anything and nor they can do so. They have forgotten Allah Almighty, Who created everything from the earth for human beings.

It is commanded: If you wish to know Allah Almighty, in that case; you should see the gardens around you, in which creeping plants of the grapes have been uplifted over high wooden frames like a roof and the clusters of grapes have been hanging into them. Observe those creepers, which have been spreading on the ground themselves. Look at the trees of date-palms and crops, in which different kinds of fruit and grains are produced. Behold the plants of olive and pomegranate, which are alike and unlike in shape and taste from one another. Different in taste - as sweet, insipid, citrus, non-citrus, sour and sour-sweet eatable things are produced by Allah Almighty. Eat these things fondly, when these are ready after ripening. Moreover, keep the portion from these things separate for the poor and needy on the day of cutting and picking the grain and fruit, but bear it in mind that nothing is destroyed needlessly. Allah Almighty does not like the prodigals and those who cross the limits.

Meditation in the previous verses - Quran Chapter 6 – 139 & 140 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-897) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 6 – 139 & 140 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-897) - درس قرآن

Meditation in the previous verses

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

The real lesson of Islam, which desires to teach the mankind, is “Tawheed, Unity, Oneness of God (Allah Almighty)” and it has been manifested very clearly in this Chapter (Surah). It is revealed that the Muslims must remain firm upon the Monotheism strictly and should not approach any such thing, due to which, even the slightest disruption occurs in the Unity.

The word Tawheed has been derived from wahdat, which means “a unit” i.e. to be one. From it, the word wahdaaniyat has been made. The thing, which is one, is called waahid and ‘ahad (both words are used for it). So the name of Allah Almighty is Waahid as well as ‘Ahad too. Tawheed means “to say about something or having belief that it is One”.

But in Islam, Tawheed means, “Saying that Allah Almighty is Waahid and ‘Ahad, that is to say; One, and considering that only He is entitled to be Worshipped and deserves actual Reverence, and neither bowing, nor disgracing oneself before anyone else and nor obeying the order of anyone else against God’s Command, whether that “anyone else” is a person, a thing or any desire of own.

Doing those works, which are permitted and commanded by Allah Almighty and refrain from those things, which He has forbidden, is Islam”. He has inspired upon His last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) - the entire matters regarding – “Do and Do not” very clearly in the Holy Qur’an that, which deeds must be done and which must not be done, and sent for the entire humankind and jinn of the world.

Acceptance of these entire Commands exists in Kalimah TayyibahLAA ‘ILAAHA ‘IL-LALLAAHU MUHAMMADUR- RASUULULLAAH”. {There is none worthy of worship but God, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is Messenger of God}. As soon as any person recites this Kalimah, enters in Islam and then, abiding by the Commands of God Almighty faithfully, that person gains Belief in Him. The Belief is of many degrees, but every degree is called ‘Iimaan (the Belief). The Light comes in Belief by obeying the Commands of Allah Almighty with confidence and certainty, and it increases step by step with “the Belief”.

It does not suit to any Muslim if any disorder occurs in Tawheed (Oneness of God Almighty). The interruption occurs in Tawheed either because of having belief in the characteristics of Allah Almighty into someone else like Him, for instance, having belief that someone other than Allah Almighty has too the power to kill, to animate, to provide the food and bestow the children etc.

Only Allah Almighty has all of these Powers and there is none else, who may have any power to do anything. Therefore, praying someone, asking someone to fulfill own desire and making a vow from anybody is wrong. Not only it is wrong but it is “belief in a plurality of Allah Almighty” also, which is biggest sin. According to the Word of Allah Almighty, ascribing plurality to God is called barbarity and the severest transgression. It is such a sin about which it has been described clearly that it can never be forgiven.

Like this, presenting offerings and sacrifice in the name of anything other than Allah Almighty, or restricting upon anything that such a one must eat it, whereas so and so must not, or accepting the decision of someone else against the command of Holy Qur’an is also paganism as we have come to know it in the previous verses. Going unto the venerable persons or on their shrines with the intention that they can fulfill our desires, is also the doctrine of plurality of gods.

However, requesting the pious people to pray for them from Allah Almighty is not wrong, but it is the source of acceptance. Blessings are achieved by sitting near the friends and servants of Allah Almighty and it refreshes the Belief in Allah Almighty. These blessings can be acquired by visiting the tombs of the Saints also. It is reasonable to go there with this intention that only Allah Almighty is, Who can fulfill desires, give food or children and remove the difficulties and none else can do anything.

‘IyyaaKa  na’-budu  wa ‘iyyaaKa  nasta-’iin. (Thee (alone) we worship; and Thee (alone) we ask for help). It is the Declaration of this matter that neither we need any recommendation from anyone else save Allah Almighty and nor ask for help except Him.

Some more useless matters of Idolaters

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

139.  And they say: That which is in the bellies of such cattle is reserved for our males and is forbidden to our wives. And if it be born dead, then they (all) may be partakers thereof. He will reward them for their attribution (of such ordinances unto Him) Lo, He is Wise, Aware.

140. They are losers who besottedly have slain their children without knowledge, and have forbidden that which Allah bestowed upon them, inventing a lie against Allah. They indeed have gone astray and are not guided.
139.  Wa  qaaluu  maa  fii butuuni  haa-zihil-‘an-‘aami  khaali-satul-lizukuurinaa  wa  muharramun  ‘alaaa  ‘azwaajinaa. Wa  ‘iny-yakum-maytatan  fahum  fiihi  Shurakaaa’.  Sayajziihim, wasfahum. ‘InnaHuu  Hakiimun ‘Aliim.

Commentary

Wasfahum – (their attribution, saying by them), wasf means to describe (to attribute). Here it aims “Dictation by them about the legal (lawful) and the forbidden (unlawful).

In this verse, another useless tradition of Idolaters has been explained. It is commanded that they had some cattle which were set free in the name of idols, named as Bahiira, Saaibah, etc. This matter has been discussed already in Surah ‘Al-Maaidah. If those cattle bring forth any calf, eating its meat is forbidden for their women, and that is reserved only for their male members. But if it is born dead, then they all (male and female persons) may be partakers thereof (can eat its meat all together). If they are asked the reason behind it, then they say that it is the command of Allah. Allah Almighty knows that this attribution of theirs is a great blasphemy and He will punish them for it.

After that, it is commanded that entirely their sins are cause of their loss. First of all, they used to kill their children due to ignorance and stupidity, either to sacrifice them for the sake of idols, or because of the fear of poverty or disgrace and shame, as some ignorant people used to think about the girls that they would be married with other people, which would be disgraceful for them. And secondly, making that food forbidden which is bestowed by Allah Almighty, and then, telling a lie that Allah has made it forbidden. All these matters belong to depravity certainly. Those People, who go on the right path, do not say so.
