Request of the dwellers of the Hell - Quran Chapter 7 – 50 & 51a (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-958) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 7 – 50 & 51a (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-958) - درس قرآن

Request of the dwellers of the Hell

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 50.  And the dwellers of the Fire cry out unto the dwellers of the Garden: Pour on us some water or some of that wherewith Allah hath provided you. They say: Lo! Allah hath forbidden both to disbelievers-

51a.  who took their religion for a sport and pastime, and whom the life of the world beguiled.
50.  Wa  naadaaa  ‘As-haabun-Naari  ‘As-haabal-Jannati  ‘an  ‘afiizuu  ‘alay-naa  minal-maaa-‘i  ‘aw  mimmaa  razaqakumUllaah.  Qaaluuu  ‘innAllaaha  harrama-humaa  ‘alal-kaafiriin-

51a.  ‘Allazii-natta-khazuu  diinahum  lah-wanw-wa  la-‘ibanw-wa  garrat-humul-hayaatud-dun-yaa.

Commentary
‘Afiizuu – (Pour!), it is a word of command, which means, “You should pour”. The origin of this word is ‘afaazah, which has been derived from fayz. Fayz means “to flow, flood, flowing”. So ‘afaazah will be meant as: Pour! Here it aims: We are being burnt in the Fire, please pour some water of the Garden on us.

It was explained in these verses earlier that when the dwellers of the Garden would have entered into the Garden and the dwellers of the Fire into the Hell, then the dwellers of the Garden will be pleased, looking before them those entire pleasing things, for which they were promised.

They will think quickly that the disobedient were promised for the Fire. Indeed that promise would have been fulfilled certainly too. Therefore, they will address the disbelievers and ask them: We have found that which our Lord promised us (to be) the Truth. Have ye (too) found that which your Lord promised the Truth? Hereupon the dwellers of the Fire will cry: Yea, verily, that all was the Truth.

After that, the conversation of the dwellers of the Heights (‘Al-‘A’-Raaf) with the dwellers of the Garden and the dwellers of the Fire was mentioned, which will be on the Day of Resurrection. At last, now it is being discussed that: What will say the dwellers of the Fire to the dwellers of the Garden?

It is commanded that the dwellers of the Fire will call out aloud from the Hell to the dwellers of the Garden: Our bodies have been burning in the Fire. Severity of heat is unbearable. Pour some water of the Garden on us and give a few from those things also, which Allah Almighty has bestowed to you for rest and pleasure.

The dwellers of the Garden will say as a reply to the question of the dwellers of the Fire: Allah Almighty has decided that the things of the Garden are forbidden for those people, who did not give ear and any importance to His Revelations, which He had established for living in the world, took their religion for a sport and pastime, determined the enjoyment of life for singing, dancing, outing and picnics. They were involved so much in worldly works that they thought never about the life after death. It is the reason that today they have been deprived of the Garden’s things.

 48.  And the dwellers on the Heights call unto men whom they know by their marks, (saying): What did your multitude and that in which ye took your pride avail you?

49.  Are these they of whom ye swore that Allah would not show them mercy? (Unto them it hath been said): Enter the Garden; no fear shall come upon you nor is it ye who will grieve.
48.  Wa  naadaaa  ‘As-haabul- ‘A’-RAAFI  rijaalany-ya’-rifuu-nahum-  bisii-maahum  qaaluu  maaa  ‘agnaa  ‘an-kum-  jam-‘ukum  wa  maa  kuntum  tastakbiruun.

Commentary
It is commanded that the people standing on the Heights, will see some such people in the Fire, whom they were acquainted. They will recognize them due to their faces, appearance, marks and style. They will say to them: You used to slight everyone and dance on the strength of your allies and patrons. Why do they not set you free today by using their tools and weapons etc.? You used to shrink from incurring an obligation. Pharaoh (king of Egypt), Haman (name of his minister) and Korah (“Qarun was one of the people of Moses but he lorded it over them. We gave him treasures, the keys alone to which were a heavy weight for a party of strong men.” (Surah Al Qasas 28:76)) were like a gnat before you. Where are today your large armies with their baggage and camp followers, your wealth and property, pride and haughtiness, those assistants of yours, who used to dance on your indication? Those entire are not of use today for you.

At the other side, we see those people in the Garden, about whom you used to say: they are useless. Are these really those people about whom you used to say swearing: they are worthless and unprofitable people, how can they be blessed by Allah? Can you imagine that those people live in the Garden, whereas the worthy, superior and excellent people like you, who were jack of all trades and unrivaled, may not go to the Garden? You used to say: the Heaven and the Hell are nothing but only a deception, which is self-invented against us by the people good for nothing, because of observing us in good condition in the world.

Today it has been proved that they used to speak the Truth. They have received a Warrant that they can go in the Garden wherever they wish. Such grief, sorrow, dreads and fear have been finished, which they used to endure by the hands of worldly people in the world. Unto them it has been said: Enter the Garden; no fear shall come upon you nor is it ye who will grieve.

The dwellers of the Hell will not be able to reply the reproach and taunt of the people standing at “the Heights”. So they will suffer patiently.

(Section 6)

Commentary
‘Al-‘A’-RAAFU – (The Heights), it was described in the previous lesson that there will be a veil in between the dwellers of the Garden and the dwellers of the Fire. That veil’s name is ‘Al-‘A’-RAAF. This Surah (Chapter) has been named because of this word. Its explanation was discussed in the beginning of this Surah.

‘Az-zaalimiin – (wrongdoers), this word is plural of Zaalim, which has been derived from Zulm. Actual meaning of the word zulm is “to deprive anyone’s right, not to give someone that thing, which was required to be handed over to him. Zaalim means “tyrant, oppressor, cruel, unjust. In every sin, one’s own right or the right of any other is violated, so every sin is Zulm.

In between the Garden and the Fire, some people will be standing on The Heights, who will be looking the dwellers of the Garden entering and living in the Paradise and the dwellers of the Fire in the Hell. These people will be hopeful of the Garden but, still they would not have entered into it. Their situation is being narrated here.

It is commanded that those people who will be standing on the Heights, they will recognize both groups from the marks of their faces. At first they will call unto the dwellers of the Garden: Salaamun ‘alaykum (Peace be unto you). After that, when they will see condition of the dwellers of the Fire, they will seek protection of God Almighty and it will come out from their mouth spontaneously: Our Lord! Place us not with the wrongdoing folk.

Conversation among those, who will be entering into the Heaven and the Hell, has already been described. Happiness from the words of one party and sadness from the words of second party is being manifested. Still some people besides them have been standing on the Heights. Their opinion has also been explained.

44b.  Then a crier in between them crieth: The curse of Allah is on evildoers-

45.  Who debar (men) from the path of Allah and seek to make it crooked, and who are disbelievers in the Last Day.

46a.  And between them is a veil.
44b.  Fa- ‘azzana  Mu-‘azzinum-  baynahum  ‘alla’-natUllaahi  ‘alazzaalimiin.

45.  ‘Allaziina  yasudduuna  ‘an  SabiiLIllaahi  wa  yab-guunahaa  ‘i-wajaa.  Wa  hum-  bil- ‘Aakhirati  kaafiruun.

46a.  Wa  bayna-humaa  hijaab.

Commentary
It is commanded that then a crier, who will be standing in between the both i.e. the dwellers of the Garden and the Fire, will cry: Those people will remain debarred from the blessings and mercy of Allah Almighty who used to run away from the Truth, used to prevent others from going on His Straight Path, used to search altogether crooked meanings of the right Guidance and used to try to disfigure its original form, and used not to believe in it that the mankind will be brought to life again, and their deeds will be checked and weighed, and the Garden will be abode of the obedient of God Almighty and good-doers, whereas the disobedient and evildoers will be thrown into the Fire and there they will be tormented for retaliation of their wicked deeds. Today the abode of those both groups is quite separate. Between them there is a veil due to which neither luxurious enjoyment of the Garden can come into the Hell, nor calamities, pain and troubles of the Hell can move unto the Garden.

This comparison among the dwellers of the Garden and the Fire, which has been described in these verses, its main aim is to disclose the facts of this world that after expiry of the present life, the mankind will be reproduced, and which deeds he performed or committed here during worldly life, which faiths had he in heart, and which matters were known true or falsified by him, these entire will appear before him in two forms. Either those deeds will become full of all blessings and luxuriant Gardens, in which pompous palaces and houses will exist for living, rivers of pure and clean water will be flowing everywhere, chaste companions will be their intimate friends and confidantes. The mankind will dwell comfortably being owner of all above mentioned things and will be provided every that thing, whatsoever he will desire, OR on the contrary, the other form will be the blazing Fire of the evil deeds, in which, the wrongdoer will be burnt always. It is the purpose that Allah Almighty sent His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), so that He should manifest before the mankind: which deeds are those which will appear after death in the form of the Garden, and which are those which will become Fire after reaching there. Nothing will come into one’s hand except remorse, if one did not understand in this world.

Commentary
On the Day of Resurrection, there will be three groups of the mankind:
1.    The dwellers of the Fire

2.    The dwellers of the Garden

3.    Those, who would be standing in between the both and will see the people entering into the Garden and the Fire.

It was described earlier that the dwellers of the Fire will enter into the Hell quarreling with one another and cursing, whereas the dwellers of the Garden will enter into the Garden laughing and talking all together. If anyone had any dissatisfaction with someone during worldly life, that entire will be removed from their hearts before entering into the Garden. They will be thankful to Allah Almighty when they will see the blessings of the Garden.

When the dwellers of the Garden would have been entered into the Garden and the dwellers of the Hell into the Fire then the dwellers of the Garden will remember the dwellers of the Fire and ask them crying, and they will reply to them. Similarly, those people who will be staying in between the both of them, they will talk with them too.

After thanking God Almighty, the dwellers of the Garden will say to the dwellers of the Fire: Which our Lord promised us in the Holy Qur’an by means of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), that has been fulfilled today and we have found it all the news as Truth which were told us. Tell you now; did you find the Truth, about which were you warned regarding agony and punishment or otherwise? Have you too found that which your Lord promised the Truth?

Hearing their question, the dwellers of the Fire will reply: Yea, verily. That entire was true which our Lord promised us. It is very difficult to estimate that despair and grief, about which it manifests:

·         Unbearable external calamity and suffering from the Hell on one side and.

·         Heartfelt sorrow, pain, regret and remorse on the other side.

Today, the mankind should try its best as it may be possible to escape from these troubles thoughtfully. Otherwise, if (God forbid) the time is over now by considering it ordinary, then tomorrow, you will not be able to be saved, when the misfortune will fall suddenly. Besides own troubles and restlessness, you would have to hear aloof from it; the cursing and taunting of those people, who are rightful owners of the Garden and who are expecting dwellers of the Paradise.

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

43b.  And they say: The Praise be to Allah, Who hath guided us to this. And we could not truly have been led aright if Allah had not guided us. Verily the Messengers of our Lord did bring the Truth. And it is cried unto them: This is the Garden; ye inherit it for what ye used to do.
43b.  Wa  qaalul-Hamdu  Lillaahil-lazii  hadaanaa  li-haazaa.  Wa  maa  kunnaa  linah-tadiya  law-laaa  ‘an  hadaa-nAllaah.  Laqad  jaaa-‘at  Rusulu  Rabbinaa  bilhaqq.  Wa  nuuduuu  ‘an  til-ku-mul-Jannatu  ‘uu-ristumuuhaa  bimaa  kuntum  ta’-maluun.

Commentary
Nuuduuu – (it is cried unto them, they will be evoked, the sound will come unto them), the origin of this word is nidaa-‘un, which means evoking, its origin is nad-wun, which means “to collect, to add up, the word nadwah has also been derived from it. Here it aims: they will be told crying.

‘Uu-ristumuuhaa – (you inherit it, now you are its heirs, you have been appointed as heirs of it), this word has been derived from ‘iiraas, origin of which is warsun. Other words like warsah, miiraas, waaris etc. have been made from it too. Warsun means “to be an heir”. ‘Iiraas means “to appoint an heir”. Actually this word is ‘Uu-ristum.

In fact, there is no other great favor than it for the human being, if his/her abode becomes “the Garden” after death. Good works were done by the individual according to own wills. Angels (peace be upon Them) brought good news, when the eyes were closed (after death). It will be commanded on the Day of Resurrection: Go forth! Your abode is Paradise. Live there forever. Entire badness from the heart, mutual affliction, malice, jealousy, rancor and envy will be removed. Congratulating one another, they will enter into the Garden. Eyes will be opened when they will see the Garden. Entire kind of favor, joy, ease and comfort exists there along with full freedom of fulfilling all desires. What will be best fortune other than it? Therefore, the people of the Garden will be saying continuously: Praise be to God Almighty, Thanks to our Lord, as it has been described in this verse.

It is commanded that Heavenly people will say after entering into the Heaven: “What was our dare that we had arrived at this place of rest and relief? This entire is God’s Bounty and reward. Worthy of Praise and Thanksgiving is only He, Who guided us with His Mercy to reach here. If His favor and grace were not of similar circumstances, we could never have reached here”.

“Now we are understanding clearly that those commands, which Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) of Allah Almighty used to tell us, were quite correct and there was no any kind of adulteration into them”. Then upon this, they will hear a Voice from the Unseen, which will announce commonly: Here, it is Heaven. You have been made heirs of it, and it is retribution of those deeds which you used to do in the world. You stopped there your wishes in Our obedience and performed such works in accordance with the teachings of Holy Qur’an and guidance of Our Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), retaliation of which is Paradise. So, We have given you the Garden as reward.

Commentary
Naza’-Naa – (We banished), actually it is past tense from the word naza’. Naza’ means “to take any congealed thing out by pulling”. Here it aims “to remove”.

Gillin – (rancor, malignity, implacable enmity, deep seated hate, jealousy, malice etc.), it aims in this verse that no rancor will remain in the hearts of the rightful owners of the Garden against one another, as it has been described earlier about the rightful owners of the Fire of Hell that they will enter in the Fire of Hell – quarreling with one another all together.

It has been explained in these verses that those people who considered Our Revelations as the Truth and obeyed the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), followed His Guidance and performed good works, they are rightful owners of the Paradise.

Meanwhile, it was described by Allah Almighty also that those works which We have mentioned in the Holy Qur’an, required to be done, are not too much difficult. Obeying His commands, performing that what He has ordered and being careful from the forbidden things – these entire works are in the power of every mankind.

Such individual, who intends strongly to live in the limits, prescribed by Allah Almighty and has no doubt in his heart regarding His Promises and Warnings – hidden support begins to reach him/her from Us (God Almighty) and whichever labor he/she bears even a little, that is removed because of Our secret Support.

These people, who have full faith in their hearts that Allah Almighty, His Word (Holy Qur’an) and His Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) are True and adopt performing good works, We have appointed them rightful owners of the Garden, not for a few days only but for ever.

Along with it, another special reward will be for the dwellers of the Paradise that if anyone of them had any affliction or displeasure in his/her heart against someone else being human nature, that will be removed from the heart before entering into the Garden. At the time of entering, neither someone will have any complaint against any other nor unpleasantness. Everyone’s heart will be clean for one another. If it is taken into consideration, we shall know that reason of restlessness of the human being and anxiety is not any other than reciprocal grief, remaining afar off one another, spite, jealously, obstinacy and enmity.

If absurd passions do not exist in the heart of a mankind, which are called desire, abomination, malice and spite etc., then there is no reason of his/her distress. It is very difficult for the human being to get rid of it entirely. However, the hearts of those people, whose abode will be Paradise, will be cleaned from all kinds of impurity and then they will come to know about the real happiness.
