Idols can do nothing - Quran Chapter 7 – 195 (Pt-9, Stg-2) (L-1070) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 7 – 195 (Pt-9, Stg-2) (L-1070) - درس قرآن

Idols can do nothing

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

195.  Have they feet wherewith they walk, or have they hands wherewith they hold, or have they eyes wherewith they see, or have they ears wherewith they hear? Say: Call upon your (so-called) partners (of Allah), then contrive against me, spare me not!
195.  ‘A-lahum  ‘arjuluny-yamshuuna  bihaaa  ‘am  lahum  ‘aydiny-yab-tishuuna  bihaaa  ‘am  lahum  ‘a’-yununy-yub-siruuna  bihaaa  ‘am  lahum  ‘aazaanuny-yasma-‘uuna  buhaa.  Qulid-‘uu  shurakaaa-‘akum  summa  kiiduuni  falaa  tun-ziruun.

Commentary

Kiiduuni – actually, this word is kiiduunii. Kiiduu is a word of command. Kayd means – to get an opportunity or chance. Kiiduu means “contrive (against)” and nii means “me”.

Tun-ziruuni – this word is actually tunziruunii. Tunziruu is word of command from the word ‘anzaar. ‘Anzaar has been derived from nazar, which means “to delay, to postpone”. Nii means “to me”.

In this verse, there is a mention about helplessness of the idols. It is astonishing on the idolaters that they create themselves the shapes of idols on the models of living creatures, even that they make their hands, feet, eyes and ears etc. everything. But, whether can they take work from their artificial limbs like living creatures? If they think, those idols are more incapable than their makers. The makers can use their limbs as they wish but the idols can do nothing.

It is commanded: Ask from them! These idols which you made with your own hands, accepted that; you have made their hands, feet, eyes and ears too, but, can they use them like your original limbs? Can they walk with their feet? Can they hold with their hands? Can they see with their eyes? Can they hear with their ears? Regret at your wit and being more proud on it that; you frighten Me (Messenger of Allah Almighty – grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) from them, as if, they can damage Me notwithstanding; those are helpless openly. It is your own will that you have been entangled in deception. Moreover, Allah Almighty has opened My obvious and hidden eyes. I see clearly that these, your idols can never harm Me. I say to you openly: Call all of them and leave no stone unturned in my persecuting and spare Me not. Then behold! What can they do of Mine? The people of weak belief cannot challenge openly as such. On them, the effect of environment; created around the idols; is so deep that they begin to fear, that something unknown may happen any time. They are as much influenced by conjectural and imaginary things that their ability of understanding becomes useless totally.

Commentary

Those people who ascribe plurality to God Almighty, do neither meditate and nor think. They make them associates with Allah Almighty which have life, as well as, sometimes they begin to consider the lifeless idols as partners and share-holders of Him too. Such people are more culpable.

They have been admonished in this verse. It is commanded: These, which you consider; the inanimate things and the idols; invented by your own hands; that they are “suppliers of your wants”, they are as much unable that they cannot hear your voice, although; you make their eyes, ears and nose etc., but while they have not ability to see and hear, then what is advantage of their invention? Whether you call them or be quiet; without any kind of difference, both conditions are the same for you.

After that, a common rule has been described in which, all things like those having life, lifeless, idols, pictures and statues etc. have been included. God Almighty commands: Every that thing to which you will call save Allah Almighty; will be a creature and for this reason; that will be obedient to its creator. Every kind of creature is powerless and incapable before God Almighty like you. Moreover, some things are more helpless than you. Choosing them as own worshiped and having faith that they can give or snatch anything, is extremely ignorance. Call them and look; if you are true in considering them proficient. Now; if they have really any power, they should help you after hearing your call and come immediately for redress of your grievance, whereas, there is “No reply” from their side.

Once, the human being had been over taken by misunderstanding as much that he considered that everything is in the power of idols like trouble, ease, putting in calamity, relieving and producing foods etc. Ancient nations threatened the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) of their times verily that if They would not give up preaching; then these idols would involve them in any big difficulty. Even that the idolaters of Makkah threatened Muhammad, the last Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) from the wrath of idols. Moreover, even till today, such ignorant people exist who fear idols and consider that they give everything.

Commentary

Allah Almighty has created some particular things in the world; only for the purpose that those teach the human beings; the way of knowing their Lord. These things are “The Scriptures of God Almighty and His Messengers (peace be upon Them)”, but usually; there are such tokens for considering thoughtfully in all those things; which belong to the humankind and from which he can know his Lord by using his sense.

Meaning of knowing The Lord correctly is that one should believe in His (God’s) Oneness and that He is Single in His Attributes, and that there is no partner, co-sharer or associate of Him. In these verses, the attention of the human being has been drawn towards his (human’s) birth that in it also; the way of Knowing the Creator and declining from His association with any other is visible clearly. There were four forms of creating the mankind:

·         The creation without father and mother –as Adam (peace be upon Him).

·         The birth without mother – as Eve (wife of Adam – peace be upon Them).

·         Producing a mankind without father – as Jesus (peace be upon Him).

·         Producing by means of sexual intercourse of man with a woman – as all common people.

Examples of three forms (of the creation of human being) were shown in the world, but it was caused to understand particularly about the fourth form. In it, the mankind has no control or power of creation into himself during the stages of copulation and afterwards i.e. woman bears a light burden, which becomes heavy with the passage of time. The human beings look with hope unto Allah Almighty that the child should be aright, healthy and vigorous. But when the child is born, then they forget Allah Almighty and accept the influence of others in the birth of child.

Allah Almighty commands: We did everything. When the work is done, you began to say: it was done by someone else. How much is it unfair? Punishment for this fault is distressed by the mankind himself. He should think: Whether those things can create even any little thing; which are made by the human being himself? Whether those should be ascribed as equal to the Power of God Almighty? Those cannot help anyone even a little contrary to creation of anything and nor those can help themselves.

Commentary

Nafsin – (a soul), this word has passed in the first verse of Surah NISAAA’ (Chapter – 4). Entire human beings are children of one Father, whose name is “Adam” (peace be upon Him). From Him Allah Almighty created His wife named Eve (peace be upon Her).

Tagash-shaa – (covered), it is a past tense and the origin of this word is tagshii which has been derived from gash-yunGash-yun means “to cover from above, to spread over, to conceal”. Here; it aims “The act of sexual intercourse by man with his woman”.

There is a description regarding creation of human being in this verse. Allah Almighty created the first mankind “Adam” (peace be upon Him) by His Omnipotence. Then, for his rest and comfort, He made his mate (woman named Eve) from him (peace be upon Them). After that, He arranged to originate the lineage of their children by means of the meeting of men and women together.

It is commanded: We created the entire humankind from a single soul (Adam – peace be upon Him), and from his body, We made his wife (Eve – peace be upon her) so that; he might live accompanying her with rest and peace. Then, birth and lineage of their children began. At first, man meets to his woman to fulfill his natural sensual desire. In the beginning, the woman bears a light burden in her womb and continues her works as usual like sitting, standing, walking and other routine works.

When some period is passed with that burden, the weight of her belly increases, then they express their wishes before God Almighty: Our Lord! Give unto us aright, healthy and conducive child, we shall be very thankful to You.
