Spending wealth at wrong places

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

35.  And their worship at the (holy) House is naught but whistling and hand-clapping. Therefore (it is said unto them): Taste of the doom because ye disbelieved.

36.  Lo! those who disbelieve spend their wealth in order that they may debar (men) from the way of Allah. So they will spend it, then it will become an anguish for them, then they will be conquered. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell-
35.  Wa  maa  kaana  salaatuhum  ‘indal-Bayti  ‘illaa  mukaaa-‘anw-wa  tas-diyah.  Fazuuqul-‘azaaba  bimaa  kuntum  takfuruun.

36.  ‘Innal-laziina  kafaruu  yunfi-quuna  ‘amwaa-lahum  li-yasudduu  ‘an-  Sabii-LIllaah.  Fasa-yunfi-quunahaa  summa  takuunu  ‘alay-him  hasratan  summa  yug-labuun.  Wallaziina  kafaruuu  ‘ilaa  Jahannama  yuhsharuuna.

Commentary

Mukaaa-‘an – (whistling), this word is a source, which means “to whistle by mouth”.

Tas-diyatan – (hand-clapping), it has been derived from the word sadaa, original meaning of which is “echo, resounding, hollow sound, roar and a clasp”. Here it aims “to create sound or making noise by striking both palms of the hands with each other.

It was described in the previous verses that torment has been hovering on their heads due to their evil deeds. But they have been saved still due to the only reason that the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has been living between them and the sound of asking forgiveness and begging pardon of Allah Almighty by Muslims have been clasping.

Those people do neither know “how to worship”, nor are they aware of their Worshiped. They have named the acts of whistling and hand-clapping by gathering at any particular place “Divine worship”. They do not understand this matter that “the worship” is to please “The Worshiped” not to please themselves. Due to this infidelity and irreligion; they would have to taste the severe anguish of Allaah Almighty.

In the next verse; one more error of the disbelievers has been manifested. It is commanded that wealth, property and war equipment are such things which help in the battle for victory. But those people spend their wealth to prevent others from the Way of God Almighty. At last; they will gain nothing but remain woe-be-gone.

Your wealth will do nothing for you. You will be defeated certainly. And if; even then; you would neither understand and nor embrace Islam; then you all will be thrown in to the Fire of the Hell.

33.  But Allah would not punish them while thou wast with them, nor will He punish them while they seek forgiveness.

34.  What (plea) have they that Allah should not punish them, when they debar (His servants) from the Inviolable Place of Worship, though they are not its fitting guardians. Its fitting guardians are those only who keep their duty to Allah. But most of them know not.

Commentary

It is commanded that the punishment has been stopped due to two reasons; otherwise they have been entitled of God’s torment since very earlier. First reason is that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) was dwelling among them; and God Almighty did not send down torment on them due to His presence.

God Almighty caused to come out His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) at first from them, then sent down punishment on them. Second reason is that the voice of penitence and asking forgiveness is high among them, some people exist between them who repent of their sins and beg pardon of God Almighty; because Muslims are living with them, and they continue begging for kindness and forgiveness from Allah Almighty, and He does not send punishment on those who ask for forgiveness.

Then, it is commanded that they have been committing such wicked deeds that coming of the torment is incumbent. Behold! They have possessed the Inviolable Place of Worship (Masjidil-Haraam) unlawfully. Bigger than it; there is no other badness for the society that a man snatched the right of another, and he did not care for other’s trouble and pain, continued trying to establish only his own power of influence and greatness. The Inviolable Place of Worship is not for the people like him. That is a sacred place of God’s worship. Only those people should have control over and possession upon It who believe in Allah Almighty and pass their life in the world carefully and have fear of His punishment in their hearts. The worship is for pleasing the Worshipped (God) only. Any common man cannot determine its method. Only the Worshipped can guide that how will He be pleased, and from which matters; will He be angry. It is clear from this discussion that the Worshipped must be Wise, Seer and Who may speak.

Perfect Stubbornness

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

31.  And when Our Revelations are recited unto them they say: We have heard; if we wish we can speak the like of this. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old.

32.  And when they said: O Allah! If this be indeed the Truth from Thee, then rain down stones on us or bring on us some painful doom!
31.  Wa  ‘izaa  tutlaa  ‘alayhim  ‘AayaatuNaa  qaaluu  qad  sami’-naa  law  nashaaa-‘u  la-qulnaa  misla  haazaaa,  ‘in  haazaaa  ‘illaaa  ‘asaa-tiirul-‘awwaliin.

Commentary

‘Asaa-tiiru – (fables), this word is plural of ‘astuuratun, which has been derived from satar and means “any written thing, a story, a tale”.

One more unfairness and perverseness of the infidels has been described in this verse. God Almighty commanded to His Messenger: You {O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon Him)} saw! When Our Revelations are caused to hear the disbelievers by recitation, they say carelessly! We have already heard these fables. What has been placed into Them? These are only self invented tales of the ancient people. We can write like these stories also if we wish to write.

Its reply has been given in the Surahs (Chapters) revealed in Makkah and Madinah; again and again, that; they can write never any book like This (Holy Qur’an). If they are able to write, then they should make, write and show only ten Chapters like These. Then they were invited: If you are indeed able to do something, make and bring only one Surah like These Chapters. But they could not bring and practically they were answered in the Battle of Badr. Then their eyes were opened. They knew that the Holy Qur’an is not a collection of fables and tales, but a Spring of such Power, before Whom, none can raise his head.

Then they began to say: O God! If this religion is True and from You, then rain down stones from the sky on us or bring on us any painful doom. From this supplication of the disbelievers, their utmost stubbornness is obvious. Moreover, it seems from such severe supplication that they wanted to impress the Muslims also.

Commentary

In the previous verses, commands regarding prevention from betraying God Almighty, His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and the trust were issued and it was told that improper love of children and unreasonable greed of wealth inclines the human being toward betraying. You should not care for the wealth and children so much that they prevent you from sympathy with the creature of Allah Almighty and doing good. Summary of the same has been described in this verse, as though; essence of all previous Precepts has been extracted.

The believers are being commanded that they should keep their duty to God Almighty; that is to say; fear Allah Almighty (be abstinent). Abstinence can be acquired by him/her only who abstains from betraying, deceiving and treachery. These are the things, abstaining from which, has been being commanded from the earlier.

You will reap the advantage from the piety that God Almighty will bestow on you power of distinguishing between good and bad, which is called Furqaan (this word is from faraqa; which means – to divide or distinguish, the Holy Qur’an (as distinguished or separating the Truth from falsehood). It will not let the bad effects of your errors and mistakes influence on you, and God Almighty will not find fault with them because He is the Greatest Beneficent and of Infinite Bounty.

In the second verse of this lesson, it is commanded: O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! Remember the time when, before departure from Makkah, the infidels were planning to prison You, or kill You or drive You forth, but thither they were plotting against You and hither Allah Almighty was plotting to support You.

At last, management of God Almighty overcame. Who can be better plotter than Allah Almighty? The aim of reminding these favors is that while; the planning of God Almighty is predominant upon all; then there is no need of fearing others. We should keep His Command in front of us and fear not any other save Him.

You should never betray (2) - Quran Chapter 8 – 27 & 28 (Pt-9, Stg-2) (L-1101) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 8 – 27 & 28 (Pt-9, Stg-2) (L-1101) - درس قرآن

You should never betray (2)

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

When you have learnt the respect of the Law and acknowledged the Commands of God Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), then you should care that “Betray not the Trust”. If you have meditated in the meanings of trust and breach of trust, which have been explained in the previous lesson, then you will be able to understand well that the trust is such attribute of the mankind, due to which, confidence and faith in one another arises, and everyone have faith about the another that he will deceive me never and nor will do wrong with me (neither in front of me and nor behind me).

It is first duty of every human being; when they are living altogether that; he should produce feelings of placing the confidence (on him) in the hearts of others, i.e. the people should set up their trust in him. The individual who will believe in Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and who will abide by Their Commands essentially, wholeheartedly and sincerely, apparently and spiritually, will bear in mind the religious law i.e. prescribed regulations; in his deeds, will be saved from the tricks of badness and evil thoughts; considering in his heart that God Almighty witnesses, certainly he will think about his trust.

Being bound of the law is called religion. When someone accepts the religion, he makes a vow with God Almighty that he will obey His Commands heartily. That person who affirms that he is religious but he does not perceive that he has promised along with acceptance that he would remain obedient of the commands of Allah Almighty, in fact; he is not religious, because perception of that covenant is necessary along with being a religious person.

The first command of the religion is that you should dwell in such manner that the people should have trust in your every deed every time and become entirely fearless from it that you can deceive them any time. It is the sign of Belief and that individual who lives as it; is a believer. How can this trust be established? For this purpose; it is necessary that one should never betray in the trust. Some examples are given below from which it will be clear: what is the trust and how is it betrayed?

1.    When an individual lives with any other, that other person expects that the individual will neither trouble, nor deceive him and nor will have faith in the hearsay about him. Till that time he does not know by experience that “I am really wrong”. This expectation of the other person is a trust with the one. If he will do against this expectation; he will commit breach of trust.

2.    Society expects from every person that he/she will vote at the time of election in favor of only such individual whom he will consider that he is able to do that work for which he is being selected. If someone will not fulfill this expectation he will be guilty of embezzlement.

3.    It is expected from every individual that he/she will not regard even own members of the family at the time of justice. If anyone does so; that betrays.

It is commanded in the verse that the cause of embezzlement is love of children and greed of wealth. With your effort, you should not let this love lead. God Almighty will give you immense reward for it. You will live with respect in the world as well as reach the success in the Hereafter too.
