Rotation of the days - Quran Chapter 3- 140a (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-461) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 140a (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-461) - درس قرآن

Rotation of the days

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

140a.  If ye have received a blow, the (disbelieving) people have received a blow the like thereof. And these are (only) the vicissitudes which We cause to follow one another for mankind to the end,
140a.  ‘Iny-yams-askum  qarhun- faqad  missal-qawma  qarhum-misluh.  Wa  tilkal-‘ayyaamu  nudaa-wiluhaa  baynan-naas,

Commentary

The Muslims were much confused due to the loss, which they had to bear in the Battle of ‘Uhud. In addition, they had been hurt more due to taunts of the hypocrites and the enemies.

Qarhun -  (blow, wound, stroke, sudden calamity, shock etc), blow means that martyrdom of many lives in the battle of ‘Uhud and great financial loss, which was due to their own mistakes, the Muslims had to bear. Their many braves were slain and injured.

’ Ayyaamun -  (the days) “Yaum” is its singular. In Arabic, the word “yaum” is used on many occasions. For instance, one time; that is to say – a moment, one-day or unlimited time. Here ‘ayyaam means turning round of the days, admiring, the ups and downs of life. As we say, “Time flies”. It is wandering shadow and the vicissitudes of life.

In this verse, Allah Almighty consoled the Muslims that, “If you have received a blow in this battle or you have to bear some trouble, you should not be confused. The disbelieving people have also received a blow the like thereof. There is no doubt that in the Battle of ‘Uhud, your seventy-five men were martyred and so many were injured but one year earlier during the Battle of Badr, seventy great chiefs of the Infidels were reached the Hell and many were injured. Besides this, in the beginning of the Battle of ‘Uhud at first their many braves were killed and injured. In the Battle of Badr their seventy men were captured. They suffered much dishonor by the hands of the Muslims but none of you did see this disgrace. However, if you compare the loss between you and them, then no space of sadness and grief remains”.

It is a universal truth that We change the softness and hardness, suffering and comfort, and the days of trouble and relief among the people. There are so many philosophies hidden in it. Then while the Infidels did not give up supporting the infidelity after suffering from so many troubles, then how the Believers can lose their courage in support of the Right?

Revealed from this verse is that if the Muslims have to suffer grief and trouble for some days in the Way of Allah Almighty, then they should not be confused because this calamity is casual. Allah Almighty alters the days of hardship and relief for the individuals and the nations.

Overcoming of Muslims - Quran Chapter 3- 139 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-460) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 139 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-460) - درس قرآن

Overcoming of Muslims

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

وَلَا تَهِنُوا۟ وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا۟ وَأَنتُمُ ٱلْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ 139

139.  Faint not nor grieve, for ye will overcome them if ye are (indeed) believers.
139.  Wa  laa  tahinuu  wa  laa  tahzanuu wa  ‘antumul-‘a’-lawna  ‘in-kuntum-Mu’-miniin.

Commentary

Laa  tahinuu – (Faint not), it means, “Don’t be depressed, do not be lazy, do not dishearten. Keep moving on the right path with complete faith and confidence”.

laa  tahzanuu – (do not grieve), usually someone feels grief about the past shortness and depravities.

‘al-‘a’-lawna – (you will overcome), it aims each type of superiority, prevalence, overcoming, influence, mastery and excess – whether that is spiritual or material. Here it means material overcoming.

This verse has also been revealed in the course of the circumstances of the Battle of ‘Uhud. When the Muslims were being broken due to wounds, dead bodies of many braves and young were lying before them, the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) had been injured also and apparently signs of weakness of the Muslims were found. During such conditions, Allah Almighty revealed this hopeful Message, “O Muslims! Do not be hopeless due to fear of harshness and show not your weakness opposite to the cruelties of the enemies of the religion. Last victory is of you and you will overcome them if you are indeed Believers and stand still in strive and struggle (Jihad) by obeying the commands of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Due to these glad tidings, broken hearts of the Muslims were tied. New strength in the arms of the crusaders and stability in their intentions sprang up. The Infidels who were spreading over the Muslims and expanding forward they were attacking continuously, could not bear this new attack of the Crusaders of Islam and surrendered to the extent that they ran away; leaving the battlefield behind.

A skillful subject comes out from this verse, that is to say; most necessary condition to obtain the mastery over the enemies of the Just is “Faith”. As the number of Muslims is not sufficient; the battle equipment is less in quantity, even then they can get the upper hand over Infidels with the help of Allah Almighty, if their Belief in Allah Almighty is strong and firm. Then success and exaltation comes automatically.

The biggest difference between Believer and Disbeliever is that, ‘most precious thing for the Believer is obedience of Allah Almighty and love with His Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). He fights for the most dignified Word of Allah Almighty by sacrificing his every thing. On the contrary, most beloved thing for a Disbeliever is his own life. Wherever he will feel danger for his life, he will run away. But A Believer makes an offering of his life in the Path of Allah Almighty. Therefore, no power can stay before him. There is dire need of the ardor of the faith today too.

138. Haazaa  ba-yaanul-linnaasi  wa  hudanwa-wa  maw-‘izatul- lil- muttaqiin.

Commentary

It has been stated in these verses that many nations have passed away before the times of the last Prophet, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Major incidents have happened and the Law of Allah Almighty has manifested. Those people from the earlier nations, who gripped up their lions for enmity with the Prophets (peace be upon them) and accusing of falsehood the truth, turned away from confirming and obedience of Allah Almighty and His Prophets (peace be upon them). They used to commit evils and do wrong. How bad their end was? Those persons, who followed the right and supported the Prophets (peace be upon them), how much peace and blessings were sent upon them? If you have any doubt in it, then you should observe the signs of destruction of the disbelievers by traveling in the earth, which have been scattered everywhere even today.

The Muslims should learn also from the previous events and consequences. They should not be disappointed due to cruelties and oppression of the infidels or their casual defeat, because the Just shall overcome at last, and only the Muslims will get victory. The groups of the people will take shelter in embracing Islam very soon gradually. This practice of Allah Almighty has remained from the very beginning that victory is only of the Right.

These contents are being described in the Holy Qur’an. The people, who fear from Allah Almighty, acquire guidance and advice by listening to these subjects. Nevertheless, those persons, who do not have His fear in their hearts, they cannot reap any advantage from such advice.

The Holy Qur’an has prestige of universal guidance. It guides the human beings to find the Road, which had been lost by them, (it shows the Way of Guidance to every nation during every time). Incidents described in it carry us also to the Straight Path even today. The scholars may succeed by following them. Three characteristics of Holy Qur’an have been described especially in these verses:

1.   It has a particular message for the people.

2.   It is a guidance for the human beings.

3.   It is a warning and source of guidance for those who fear Allah Almighty.

Those people, who falsify such Holy Scripture, they will remain misfortunate in the world as well as on the Day of Resurrection.

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

136.  The reward of such will be forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. And a bountiful reward for workers.
136.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  jazaaa-‘uhum-magfiratum-mir-Rabbihim  wa  jannaatun- tajrii  min-tahtihal-‘anhaaru  khaali-diina  fiihaa. Wa  ni’-ma  ‘ajrul-‘aamiliin.

Commentary

Following characteristics of the pious people have been described in the preceding verses:

1.   Whether it is happiness or sadness, they spend their power and wealth by every means in the Way of Allah Almighty. They do not stop their hands even in the poverty.

2.   They control their anger, do not do unpleasant things overwhelming by anger, and do not use unbefitting sentences by their mouths.

3.   They forgive the mistakes of defaulters. Forgiveness and mercy are their characteristics.

4.   Obliging is included in their nature. Surely, Allah Almighty makes the pious people friends of Him.

5.   If they commit any bad thing unknowingly or err, then they bear Allah Almighty in their hearts, and pray before Him for absolution and forgiveness.

6.   Intentionally or unintentionally, if they commit any error or do something wrong at any time, they do not repeat it. As soon as they realize and know about it, admit it immediately.

The Spirit of fear from Allah Almighty, goodness and abstinence is produced due to these characteristics. These are such people who are called the abstemious. Allah Almighty has promised best rewards for such people.

It is being commanded, “The reward of such people will be forgiveness from their Lord, He covers their faults and omissions, overlooks from them and bestows them with His forgiveness and mercy”.

Gardens are for them in the Hereafter, underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide forever. They will get there Paradise and its everlasting graciousness. How much great reward is for the righteous people? Would that! The human beings should make themselves able to deserve it at the time of going before Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection.

Commentary

‘As-sarraaa-‘i  wazzarraaa-‘i   - (in ease and in adversity), first attribute of the pious has been described here that they spend in grief and relief, riches and poverty (in both forms). They spend in the Way of Allah Almighty in each condition according to their capacity.

‘Al-kaazimiinal-gayza  - (they control their anger), it is natural to suffer grief in one’s heart on invasive incidents and to be in anger in unpleasantness. But, the good people control their anger. They do not disclose their wrath reasonably or without any reason, and do not use unpleasant words in the condition of overwhelming by their anger.

‘Al-‘aafiina  - (forgiving), “its origin is ‘afu” which means ‘forgiveness’. That is to say; to ignore the mistake or negligence of anybody. This is a major characteristic out of the characteristics of the pious people.

Faahishatan – (an evil thing or wrong), this word has been derived from fahash, which means; such badness and sin, which is not hidden.

lam  yusirruu  - {don’t repeat (the wrong)},  the word “ israar” is its source, that is to say, to obstinate on own mistake and not to admit it. Correction of that person becomes impossible who has this badness.

Commentary

Punishment for the usurer has been described after forbidding from devouring the usury that his last abode would be Fire of Hell, which is in fact for the disbelievers. It revealed that a usurer would also be produced in the Court of Allah Almighty as a sinner like a disbeliever. Therefore, Muslims should escape from the curse of usury/interest, and pass their lives as those who fear Allah.

Then it has been commanded: Obey Allah Almighty and His Last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). This obedience becomes cause of mercy upon them. To execute the command of Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is just like obeying the Order of Allah Almighty, because it is the Order of Allah Almighty that you would have to obey perfectly the commands of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Some Muslims disobeyed the instructions of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in the Battle of ‘Uhud, which endangered their victory. Therefore, it has been admonished, “Do not fall short and do not commit any error as such in future. If you will obey Allah Almighty and His Messenger, (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) then you will find mercy of Allah Almighty. Doing so, the doors of success and betterment will be opened for you”.

It is being commanded in the third verse of this lesson, “Vie one with another for forgiveness from your Lord. (Labor too hard towards the good deeds and fine manners, for which Allah Almighty and His Messenger, (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) has commanded you. If you will pass your lives in God-fearing and control of the passions then after death from this mortal world, your last abode will be Paradise, which is as wide as are the heavens and the earth, prepared for those who ward off (evil). The human being cannot think vaster than the space of heavens and the earth collectively. Therefore, width of Paradise has been illustrated by a simile of the space of heavens and the earth.

The difference in the result of a usurer and obedient mankind of Allah Almighty has been revealed that one of them is disgraced in the world as well as he will be fuel of hell-fire on the Day of Resurrection. The other person, who is obedient, passes his life with honor and he will be entitled to live in the beautiful gardens of Paradise on the Doomsday.

Restriction on the interest - Quran Chapter 3- 130 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-455) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 130 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-455) - درس قرآن

Restriction on the interest

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

130.  O ye who believe! Devour not usury, doubling and quadrupling (the sum lent). And observe your duty to Allah, that ye may be successful.
130.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aa-manuu  laa  ta’-kulur-Ribaaa  ‘az-‘aafam-muzaa-‘afah.  Wat-taqullaaha  la-‘allakum  tuflihuun.

Commentary

During the recitation about the Battles of Badr and ‘Uhud , now prohibition of the usury is being mentioned. Apparently, no relation is visible between above both matters, but there are many causes of their connection. Two important reasons out of them are being stated as under:

1.   Due to devouring the usury, unkindness and cordial weakness increases, because: a.  Spirit of obedience and loyalty comes to an end due to taking unlawful earning greedily. b.   Avarice and misery arises in the human being due to devouring the usury.

2.   According to a history, aim of one by one revelation of the verses about above-mentioned two matters (restriction on the Usury, and the Battles of Badr and ‘Uhud) is that, the frequent usury matters of Muslims were with the Jews at that time. Therefore, having no concern with them was very difficult, and during the incident of the Battle of ‘Uhud, the Jews Hypocrites had interfered intensely. So the Muslims were warned that they should stop borrowing and lending money on usury. Otherwise, relations with these deceivers would remain established by violence due to the usury, which would become cause of loss in future.

‘Az-‘aafam-muzaa-‘afah – (doubling and quadrupling) it does not mean “Devour not usury, doubling and quadrupling on the sum lent, but a little”. The fact is that during the times of ignorance, usury was devoured just like nowadays the moneylenders, banks and commercial organizations get interest upon their capital, that is to say; they lend one hundred $ and that is increased doubling and quadrupling (due to compound interest). It is characteristic of the Usury that the people, who are poor, they become poorer to poorest and who are rich, they become more and richest. This doubling and quadrupling of usury has been pointed out in this verse.

A usurer, who gets unlawful gain from the poor and indigent people due to their weakness, he does not bear any kind of labor but takes greedily earning of his lent money. Likewise, at first his own body’s parts become disable. On the other side, he becomes cause to do in-efficacious the labor of borrower. Labor and hard working of the borrower becomes valueless. He hands over/surrenders his earnings after hardships in the form of interest to the lender. Besides this, the helpless debtor/borrower falls into the disgrace economically, socially and morally. Moreover, the person who lends money; he becomes lover of ease, dull and lazy. The spirit to strive and struggle in the Way of Allah Almighty, to sacrifice and to sympathize with the creature of Allah Almighty goes to an end from his breast. He gets all sorts of comfort whereas other people work hard. Others earn and he eats. Poverty of the poor person increases. And at the same time wealth and lordship of the rich increases.
