Meditation in the Tokens of God’s Sovereignty

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.

190.  Lo! in the creation of the heavens and the earth and (in) the difference of night and day are tokens (of His Sovereignty) for men of understanding-

191.  Such as remember Allah, standing, sitting, and reclining, and consider the creation of the heavens and the earth, and say: Our Lord! Thou createdst not this in vain. Glory be to Thee! Persevere us from the doom of Fire.

Commentary

When any person of understanding thinks about the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the system of rising the sun in the east (the day) and its setting in the west (the night), then he has to believe that an Omnipotent exists Who created the entire existing things. There is no such thing, which may dare before Him (the Creator) to strike out from its circle. Such people, who meditate, bear Allah Almighty in their minds morning and evening in each condition, and they do not be careless from remembering recital of His Praise and Names.

The people who think deeply; say after remembrance and close attention: “Our Lord! You have not created worthless and without any purpose this entire world of the creatures”. Surely, this order of strange and skillful administrations will end at any magnificent result, as though, from here, their intellect thoughts go unto the Day of Resurrection, which is the last natural and logical conclusion of the present life.

We have known from these verses that thinking and meditating about the earth and the skies, and other things created by Allah Almighty can be advantageous and fruitful when resultantly the mankind turn their attention towards His remembrance and the Day of Resurrection. Those people, who incline towards material love after meditating in the above-mentioned things, they cannot be ‘ulil-‘albaab “the men of understanding” (wise and learned persons), whether the people of the world consider them the great scholars of the religion. Uncountable blandishments appear before us in our daily life; when we observe them, we are astonished and lost in wonder. We should understand from this entire God’s Work that at last we would have to be present in the Court of the CREATOR. Everybody should be prepared and earn instantly, which would be useful for that ‘on the Doomsday’.

Commentary

The religious scholars of the Jews used to take bribe from the public, by telling them false tenets and thinking that nobody can observe their ingenuity. They used to hope that the people would praise them that they were supreme scholars and truth loving. On the other side, the condition of the Hypocrites was the same also. They used to remain at home; hiding themselves in the situation of war and were pleased at their cleverness that, “how did we defend ourselves”.

When the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) used to return from the religious war, then the above mentioned people wished (by false evading about their absence) that they might be praised by Allah’s Apostle (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). It has been described in these verses that these kinds of activities cannot save them from the doom of Allah Almighty, which has been waiting for them in the world and in the Hereafter.

Those depravities of the People of the Scripture were signified in the first verse that:

·       They did not stand firm and flung the solemn covenant behind their backs, which was taken by Allah Almighty.

·       They were required to expound the truth/commands mentioned in the Scripture before the mankind and not to hide it, but they hid it and gave false and cheap verdicts to the people. It was a very great crime to give the false verdicts, but they did not stop here and sold their religion and faith against a few coins, and ruined their world and Hereafter at their own.

In what manner these people have fallen into an idiotically misunderstanding that they become happy upon their each lawful or unlawful deed. They think that their conduct and acts are higher from error. It is its result that now there is no chance of their correction. Not only has this but they wanted to be praised for those acts, which they have not done. As if they did not do any duty, even then, it was a planned scheme and they did not adopt sagacity and prudence.

Allah Almighty commanded, “Triumphing perceptions and childish solaces of those people will not be able to save them from the anguish of Allah Almighty. Sovereign Power of the heavens and the earth is only for Allah Almighty. How can they go out from it and where can they go leaving it”?

Vow by the People of the Scripture

187.  And (remember) when Allah took a solemn covenant from those who had received the Scripture (He said): Ye are to expound it to mankind and not to hide it; but they flung it behind their backs and bought thereby a little gain. Verily evil is that which they have   gained thereby.
187.  Wa  ‘iz  ‘akhazallaahu  Miisaaqallaziina

Fana-bazuuhu   waraaa-‘a  zuhuurihim  wash-taraw  bihii  samanan-  qaliilaa.  Fabi’-sa  maa  yash-taruun.

Commentary

Miisaaqa – (a solemn covenant), it also means engagement, stipulation, agreement, bond, treaty, vow, promise, contract, time, period, reign and obligation. It is being mentioned here that Allah Almighty took two covenants from the People of the Scripture:

1.   They would have to expound before the mankind the entire truths, facts and orders stated in the Scripture.

2.   They should neither hide anything from the Scripture and nor tell the people something wrong.

It has been described in this verse that a solemn covenant was taken from the scholars of the Scripture that, “Those entire orders and glad tidings which exist in the Scripture of Allah Almighty, were required to be conveyed before the people very clearly. In addition, they were forbidden from hiding anything, and they were prevented from differentiating in the meanings of Its verses. But they did not care, broke their covenant with Allah Almighty for the sake of a little, contemptible and abject gain of the world, changed the words and meanings of the Scripture, and Commandments of God Almighty. They tried their best to hide the glad tidings regarding the last Messenger of Allah Almighty; Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). As they used to hoard their wealth and revenue, like this they also were misers in spreading the Knowledge. They aimed only to collect the assets and property of the world. The scholars of the Muslims have been warned too by means of this verse that they should not commit such deeds for the worldly dignity and wealth.

An admonitory lesson exists in this verse also for the Muslim commentators and interpreters that they should not become criminals of hiding the verses and tokens of Allah Almighty like those who had received the Scripture (the scholars of the Jews and the Christians). Islam is a universal truth and it is not possible to hide this truth. Anyhow, this truth shall become public and overcome upon the entire false religions.

Allah Almighty has described the facts and events of previous nations for the purpose that we should get warning from them. That, which happened with others, can be with us too. Divine nature, that is to say; the Law of Truth remained always only one, while Allah Almighty has commanded Himself, “Laa  tab-diila  li-khalQillaah” {There is no altering (the Laws of) God’s creation} (30: 30).

Test in property and personally

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

186.  Assuredly ye will be tried in your property and in your persons, and ye will hear much wrong from those who were given the Scripture before you, and from the idolaters. But if ye persevere and ward off (evil), surely it is a work of strong determinations.
186.  Latubla-wunna  fiii  ‘am-waali-kum  wa  ‘anfusikum,  wa  latasma-‘unna  minallaziina  ‘uutul- Kitaaba  min-  qablikum  wa  minallaziina  ‘ashrakuuu  ‘azan-kasiiraa.  Wa  ‘in-tasbiruu  wa  tattaquu  fa-‘inna  zaalika  min   ‘azmil-‘umuur.

Commentary

The Muslims have been addressed in this verse that, “As you have sacrificed earlier your property and your lives, and you were being tried, likewise you will be tried in both things in future too and you would have to sacrifice in each respect. Your life may be exposed to imminent danger at any time and you would have to risk it, you are wounded, you suffer imprisonment, Diseases and sickness attack you, your properties are destroyed and your close relatives slip away. You would have to bear different kinds of troubles and difficulties. You would have to hear many wrong and vexing talks from the People of the Scripture and the Idolaters. Remember that it is very necessary to have patience and God-fearing for passing through these entire tests. If you will stand face to face these severities with steadfastness and sobriety, then really it will be a work of strong determinations.

It is found through a Saying of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that this verse was revealed before the commencement of the Battle of Badr. The order regarding war for self-defense and slaying was revealed afterwards. However, if there is either battle or peace, it is compulsory in all conditions to adopt patience and God-fearing.

Another Saying of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) teaches us that this world is a paradise for the Infidels and prison for the Believers. Its reason is that Allah Almighty puts the Muslims in different trials to teach them for the life of abstinence and piety. The Muslims fear God Almighty, run away from evil deeds and run towards the Goodness. On the contrary, telling a lie, backbiting, lending and borrowing money at interest, trying to acquire gain in each matter and earning through black marketing seems (apparently) very easy to the Infidels and Hypocrites. Moreover, for the lawful earning, a true person has to pass through very difficult paths. The deniers of the truth oppose and hurt the good-natured people. But a person who is of good deeds, challenges all troubles and difficulties with patience and steadfastness. And he deserves the Paradise after bearing different trials from Allah Almighty. In short, actual secret of success in intricacies and calamities is hidden in two principles, which are Patience, steadfastness and God-fearing. The person who will produce these characteristics into himself, surely he will succeed.

Every soul will taste of death - Quran Chapter 3- 185 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-495) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 185 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-495) - درس قرآن

Every soul will taste of death

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

185.  Every soul will taste of death. And ye will be paid on the Day of Resurrection only that which ye have fairly earned. Whoso is removed from the Fire and is made to enter Paradise, he indeed is triumphant. And the life of this world is nothing but a deceptive provision of vanity.
185.  Kullu  nafsin-  zaaa-‘iqatul- mawt.  Wa  ‘innamaa  tu-waffaw-na  ‘ujuurakum  Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  Faman-  zuhziha  ‘aninnaari  wa  ‘ud-khilal-Jannata  faqad  faaz.  Wa  mal-hayaa-tuddun-yaaa  ‘illaa  mataa-‘ul-guruur.

Commentary

The reality has been manifested in this verse that every living being and soul would have to taste of death one or the other day. The creature, which is born once in the world, mortality/death is compulsory for that. Permanence is not for any existence but Allah Almighty. Although this truth has been cleared earlier, but here it is being mentioned particularly for those people who hold fondly their wealth in their arms instead of spending it in the Way of Allah Almighty and collect it heaps over heaps. When they will taste of death, their entire wealth and property, gold, silver and money will be dropped down here, in this world and they will be buried in to their graves empty-handed. Neither their wealth can postpone their death, nor can it keep them away from the severe bodily suffering in their graves. Therefore, they should keep the love with Allah’s creature, leaving the love of wealth.

Mataa-‘ul-guruur – (a deceptive provision of vanity). Mataa means provisions, property, real capital, funds etc. guruur means deceptive, alluring. The person, who is boaster, is called proud or arrogant because he is involved in deception about himself. He imagines something better about himself, which actually he is not.

Temporary spring and pleasantness of life are the things of imposture. Many ignorant people forget their future (the Day of Resurrection) due to exciting beauties and apparent decoration, and make their aim of life only to this world. They wish to get provisions and wealth from each source whether that is lawful or unlawful. Selfishness, greed and sensuality become their habit. They consider that success of this world is perhaps real success, whereas actual success of mankind is to escape from the anguish of Allah Almighty and to get the delight (Paradise). No success can be gotten by remaining out from the Paradise. Good working, worship of Allah Almighty and sacrifice make a man deserving of the Paradise.

Commentary

Qurbaanin – (an offering, a sacrifice), during the ancient times, some Messengers (peace be upon them) were given this miracle that when they used to offer or sacrifice anything in the Name of Allah Almighty, at that time a fire (from heaven) used to devour that particular thing. That devouring of the thing by the fire was considered a sign of acceptance of the offering or sacrifice by Allah Almighty. An event which belonged to Prophet Solomon (peace be upon him) like this has been recorded in the present Bible. The Jews caught an evasion from it and said to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that Allah Almighty has told them that they should not believe in that Prophet (peace be upon him), who does not have this miracle.

It was a false evasion of the Jews. There was no order of this type in any Scripture. Neither it exists today, nor can it be proved in respect of every Prophet (peace be upon him). Allah Almighty has bestowed the miracle to each Prophet (peace be upon him) separately, which were suitable according to his circumstances respectively. Therefore, Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) said to the Jews, “If you are true to your promise and you do not believe in any Prophet (peace be upon him) till the time that you do not see this miracle in to him, then tell me ‘why did you slay those ancient Prophets (peace be upon them), who had brought the miracles of their truth, and they had also this specific miracle? The condition, which is being stipulated by you, that is only a pretense and trick”.

Allah Almighty satisfied His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that he should not be sad and sorrowful due to those people’s absurd reasoning and perverseness. Many Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) were sent before you, who were falsified by the people.

Another shameless villainy of the Jews has been described in this verse. Firstly, they did not use to spend in the Way of Allah Almighty due to hoarding. Secondly, whenever they heard the order to spend for the cause of Allah Almighty, they rallied upon it and became arrogant of Allah Almighty. When the verse “Man  zallazii  yuq-ri-zUllaaha qar-zan  hasanaaa” (Who is he, who will lend money to Allah without interest, which will be repaid at the pleasure of the borrower) revealed, they said, “Does Allah borrow from us? If it is so, then Allah is beggar and poor (Allah forbid), and we are rich and independent.

It needs some close attention here that Allah Almighty named as loan to the money, which will be spent in the good works. Doing so, He proved His perfect Mercy and Kindness. He causes to bear the spending money (which has already been bestowed by Him to us) for our own welfare. He will not get any profit or gain while we shall be spending, then how can it be called “Loan”? It is only His Beneficence that He promises to pay us best retaliation/remuneration against our spending money for our own welfare and names this thing as loan. But the Jews began to get it as a joke due to their wickedness instead of accepting it as Allah’s Kindness and prated such foolish talk in the Dignity of Allah Almighty. He commands that He has heard these saying and He shall punish them on their arrogance.

They had been slaying the innocent and sinless Prophets (peace be upon them). As they have spoken rude words on the Superiority of Allah Almighty, likewise they presumed in the dignity of Prophets also. Because of this reason, they deserved punishment of burning Fire of the Hell.
