Fear of Allah

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

131.  And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth and We ordained those who received the Scripture before you and (We ordain) you, that ye keep your duty toward Allah. And if ye disbelieve, lo! Unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. And Allah is Ever Absolute, Owner of Praise.

132.  And unto Allah belongeth whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. And Allah is Sufficient as Defender.
131.  Wa  Lillaahi  maa  fis-samaawaati  wa  maa  fil-‘arz.  Wa  laqad  wassay-nallaziina  ‘uutul-Kitaaba  min- qablikum  wa  ‘iy-yaakum  ‘anitta-qUllaah.  Wa  ‘in-  takfuruu  fa-  ‘inna  LIllaahi  maa  fis-samaa-waati  wa  maa fil-‘arz.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  Gany-yan  Hamiidaa.

132.  Wa  LIllaahi  maa  fis-sama-waati  wa  maa  fil-‘arz.  Wa  kafaa  BIllaahi  Wakiilaa.

    Commentary

Wassay-Naa – (We ordained), it has been derived from taw-siyah, which means “to ordain, to say either about goodness or for giving such thing, in which there is benefit for one, and to advice, to admonish etc.”

Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has provided a method of living and working in this world for the humankind, which is called Islam. The questions like “what should the human beings think, what should be done by someone, how should one do” have been described very clearly in the Holy Qur’aan, in which there are all kinds of Rules and Regulations for guidance of entire mankind. How to deal mutual matters, how to behave relatives, neighbors, the people living in surroundings and the common people? These entire matters have been explained till now. There is only one thing in the intent of these entire matters, which has been described repeatedly on various occasions and toward which, there is dire need to draw special attention, that is; Bear the remembrance of Allah Almighty in mind every time, Do good works to please Him and Turn away from evil deeds.

It has been told thrice in this verse, “Unto Allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth”. In addition, it has been ordained, “Keep the women in a suitable manner, fear from your Lord Almighty and do not trouble them”. As the people before you were instructed, now you are also being commanded, “The essential matter is to fear from Allah Almighty. It is advantageous for your own. Because Allah Almighty is Free, Lord, Eternal and Sublime. He does not need anything. What does He say, that is good for you”. The world used to tyrannize the women and still behaves with them cruelly. Therefore, it has been urged in the Holy Qur’aan again and again to do justice with them. Then it is commanded that Allah Almighty does correct entire problems of that person, who executes His Orders. And His Support is Sufficient because He is Lord of all things. It is the difference between Muslims and non-Muslims that “What the Muslims do that is order of God Almighty, and what they give up, that is due to His fear. Other people have been entangled in their own imaginations and they have forgotten Allah Almighty. If this difference does not stand firm, then Muslims and non-Muslims are equal i.e. all are Disbelievers.

Equity among the wives is necessary - Quran Chapter 4 129 & 130 Pt 5, Stg 1 L 608 درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 129 & 130 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-608) - درس قرآن

Equity among the wives is necessary

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

129.  And Ye will not be able to deal equally between (your) wives, however much ye wish (to do so); but turn not altogether away (from one), leaving her as in suspense. And if ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is Ever-Forgiving, Merciful.

130.  And if they separate, Allah will compensate each out of His abundance. And Allah is ever All-Embracing, All-Knowing.
129.  Wa  lan-  tastatii-‘uuu  ‘an-ta-diluu  baynan-nisaaa-‘i  wa  law  harastum  falaa  tamiiluu  kullal-mayli  fataza-ruuhaa  kal-mu-‘allaqah.  Wa  ‘in  tuslihuu  wa  tattaquu  fa-‘innAllaaha  kaana  Gafuurar-Rahiimaa.

130.  Wa  ‘iny-yata-farraqaa  yug-Nillaahu  kullam-min- sa-‘atih.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  Waasi-‘an  Hakiimaa.

    Commentary

Tastatii-‘uuu – (You will be able to do), it has been derived from ‘ista-taa-‘at, which means ‘to have power, to be able to do’.

Tamiiluu – (you should Lean), it is from ma-ya-la, which means ‘to lean, to connect, to agree, to incline to, to draw attention. The word Miilaan is also from it, which means inclination.

Mu-‘allaqatin – (in suspense), its base is ta’-liiq, which means ‘to keep waiting, to postpone, to hang, to suspend’. According to idiomatic meaning, it aims ‘neither the husband causes the wife to dwell at home after marriage, nor sets her free by divorcing’. Islam has taken this state of circumstances as extremely vile act.

Tattaquu – (keep from evil), its origin is ‘ittaqaa’, which has been derived from taqwaa. Taqwaa is “to keep away from the evil, the sobriety and abstinence”. ‘Ittaqaa’ means “to adopt sobriety, to fear from Allah Almighty”.

Before Islam, the Arabians used to marry as much women as they wished. There was no limit for number of marriages. After that they used to ignore them carelessly. Some of them were regarded, but maximum were not contemplated. Islam did not like this act and approved such device, due to which, this prevalence might be finished in the process of time.

First of all, Islam began to correct the marriages from the point that women were raised from their dropped dignity and disciplined the men that they (women) are not mere mindless and lifeless idols for completion of your desires (lust), that you use them as you wish. They are owners of their wealth and property. They have right in the heritage. You would have to accept them as your equal member, partner, helper and supporter in maximum affairs. Then, it has been commanded that you can marry more than one woman with their consent. But you would have to keep all of them comfortably. And remember! It is not in your control to do justice between them. You will find that you are unable to behave your wives equally, although you wished and tried your best. It will never be lawful for you that you incline more towards one side and the other wife or wives are kept waiting (in suspense). If you feel that you are not able to retain, then divorce them. Allah Almighty is Lord of the entire creations. Nothing is deficient near to Him. He will bestow the persons, who are of good intention, too much Mercifully, that they will become free from necessities of one another.

Behavior of husband and wife with each other - Quran Chapter 4 -128 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-607) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 128 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-607) - درس قرآن

Behavior of husband and wife with each other

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

128.  If a woman feareth ill treatment from her husband, or desertion, it is no sin for them twain if they make terms of peace between themselves. And peace is better. And greed hath been made present in the minds (of men). And if ye do good and keep away from evil, lo! Allah is ever Aware of what ye do.
128.  Wa  ‘inimra-‘atun  khaafat  mim  ba’-lihaa  nushuuzan  ‘aw  ‘i’-raazan  falaa  junaaha  ‘alay-himaaa  ‘any-yus-lihaa  bay-na  humaa  sulhaa.  Was-Sulhu  khayr. Wa  ‘uh-ziratil-‘anfu-sush-shuh.  Wa  ‘in  tuhsinuu  wa  tattaquu  fa-‘innAllaaha  kaana  bimaa  ta’-maluuna  Khabiiraa.

    Commentary

‘Uh-zirat – (has been made present), and kept in front. Its base is ‘Ah-zaar, which means ‘to place before, to make present’. It is made from Hazuur, which means ‘to come near, to appear, to befall’.

Nushuuzan – (displeasure, ill treatment), it aims that if the wife seems that her husband remains dissatisfied a little from her. Disgust and aversion has taken place of love and good treatment, then it is no sin for her, if she comes close to her husband and makes peace with him.

Shuha – (Greed), this word is also used for ‘ambition, avarice and covetousness besides vigorous desire.

Some other forms of behavior with the women and guidance about them have been mentioned in this verse, so that mutual relationship among the twain (husband and wife) may be good. It is commanded that if the wife observes that her life partner lives separately for a few days. His heart is felt revoked from her side, then there is no abashment in it if she adopts suitable policies to reconcile her husband. First of all, greed of wealth has been clung in the heart of everybody. Desire of profit has been attached with life. Therefore, if the wife inclines to reduce some money from her expenditures or becomes ready to lessen some amount from the amount incumbent on her husband (Mehr), then he will assent by beholding his financial benefit. The husband should also get ready to be united after observing the attempt of mutual adjustment from his wife, because welfare is in it that the twain (husband and wife) should live together friendly and with peace mutually. Many causes may be of disposition, but they both should be ready every time to remove the reason of disagreement. If one feels any sign of peace, even a very little, then the other should accept it immediately. It is no sin, if the wife causes to incline her husband and he accepts it. After that, it has been described that the men should treat the women well from the beginning and any chance of disagreement should not be born. It will be very good for both of them. Neither any deed, nor any intention of any person is hidden from Allah Almighty. He is ever Aware of everything. As though, He guided the wife in this verse that she should sacrifice some wealth (even very less), and claimed from the husband that he should fear from Allah Almighty and treat his wife well. Betterment of relationship needs first priority.

Establishment of Justice

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

127.  They consult thee  concerning women. Say: Allah giveth you decree concerning them, and the Scripture which hath been recited unto you (giveth decree), concerning female orphans and those unto whom ye give not that which is ordained for them though ye desire to marry them, and (concerning) the weak among children, and that ye should deal justly with orphans. And whatever good ye do, lo! Allah is ever Aware of it.
127.  Wa  yas-taf-tuunaka  fin-Nisaaa’.  QuLIllaahu  yuftiikum  fii-hinna, wa  maa  yutlaa  ‘alay-kum  fil-Kitaabi  fii  yataa-man-nisaa- ‘illaatii  laa  tu’-tuuna  maa  kutiba  lahunna  wa  targabuuna  ‘an-tankihuu-hunna  wal-mustaz- ‘afiina  minal-wildaani  ,  wa   ‘an-taquu-muu  lil-yataamaa  bil-qist.  Wa  maa  taf-‘aluu  min-  khayrin-  fa- ‘innAllaaha  kaana  bihii  ‘Aliimaa.

    Commentary

Yas-taf-tuuna – the origin of this word is ‘istaftaaa’, which has been made from fatwaa. Fatwaa means ‘permission, leave’. ‘Istaftaaa’  means to request for leave, to ask for permission’. Yaftuuna is also from the same origin, its source is ‘iftaaa’. ‘Iftaaa’ means ‘to give permission and leave’.

‘Al-mustaz- ‘afiina – (the weak, the feeble), it is plural of mustaz- ‘af, which has been derived from zu’f that means ‘weakness, debility’.

There was the command about orphans in the beginning of this Surah (Chapter), that was, “Bear in mind and care especially their rights”. Even that, those patrons of the orphan girls should not marry them, who may violate their rights. In view of this verse, some relatives of the orphan girls gave up to marry them. When they observed that those other people, with whom (who were not relatives) the orphan girls were got married, they gave them abundant pain. Then the guardians felt, “If they had not been married with non-relatives, they would not have been put in trouble”. The people asked some questions also from the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) about this matter.

It has been described in this verse, “These people want permission to marry the orphan girls with their near relatives”. Tell them, “You are permitted for it. You were prevented earlier from this kind of marriage in the form that perhaps you could not fulfill their rights, your intention might be either to take possession of their wealth and property or you marry them for any other advantage of your own or they are given any loss in any matter. In such condition, to such orphan girl or helpless woman, truly; you should not wed, for whom you are not answerable to anyone except yourself. Allah Almighty has commanded again and again to do justice with the weak women and feeble children. He has adjudged also for the women and children as heirs and urged that the justice should be done fully with the orphans. Acting upon own wisdom before the orders of Allah Almighty is a stupidity. You have goodness in the commands, given by Him from beginning to end. Bow your heads before His commandments. You do not have so much knowledge that you may think about your betterment. Those deeds will not be wasted by Allah Almighty, which will be performed by you in His obedience.
