Quran Chapter 4- 140 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-614) - درس قرآن

Boycott of wicked gatherings

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

140.  And He hath already revealed unto you in the Scripture that, when ye hear the Revelations of Allah are being rejected and derided, (ye) sit not with them (who disbelieve and mock) until they engage in some other conversation; lo! In that case (if ye stayed) ye would be like unto them. Lo! Allah will gather hypocrites and disbelievers, all together, into Hell-
140.  Wa  qad  nazzala  ‘alaykum  fil-Kitaabi  ‘an  ‘izaa  sami’-tum  ‘Aayaa-Tillaahi  yukfaru  bihaa  wa  yustah-za-‘u  bihaa  falaa  taq-‘uduu  ma-‘ahum  hattaa  yakhuuzuu  fii  hadiisin  gayrih.  ‘Innakum  ‘izam- misluhum.  ‘InnAllaaha  jaami-‘ul-Munaa-fiqiina  wal-kaafiriina  fii  Jahannama  jamii-‘aa.

    Commentary

Yustah-za-‘u  - (derided), its origin is ‘istih-zaa-‘un, which means  to mock, to taunt, to laugh at. Particularly in this form that if the aim is to disgrace someone or something.

Yakhuuzuu – (they engage), it is from khawz, which means to be busy, to reflect, to think, to go inside anything. Here it signifies ‘to engage in some other conversation’.

This Chapter (Surah) was revealed in Madinah. This verse was revealed about the behavior of the hypocrites of Madinah that they used to deride and reject the verses of the Word of Allah Almighty i.e. Holy Qur’an. A command was also revealed on the same subject during the life before it i.e. during the period in Makkah, because behavior of the people of Makkah was the same as of the hypocrites of Madinah. For reference you can see also Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Chapter: Cattle), verse # 68 (6:68), (“And when thou seest those who meddle with Our Revelations, withdraw from them until they meddle with another topic. And if the devil causes thee to forget, sit not, after the remembrance, with the wrongdoing people”.

It has been mentioned, “We have already revealed this command in the Holy Qur’an. Entire Muslims should act upon that. This commandment is not only for the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), but it is for the entire Muslims. The assembly in which you observe that the Revelations of Allah Almighty are being rejected and derided and the faults are being found into Them, being criticized and the people of the assembly are meddling at Them, then you should go away from that assembly. If you stayed there, listened to their fault-finding and jest, then you would also be like them and would be included in the disrespectful.

However, when they engage in some other conversation and do not discourse impudently about the verses of Allah Almighty, then it is no sin to sit with them. Allah Almighty will gather the hypocrites and the disbelievers, all together, into the Hell. They entire will suffer from very severe torment there. Therefore, you should not attend such assemblies, in which the Revelations, Verses and Commandments of Holy Qur’an are being derided and rejected. And if you are already sitting there, then you should leave that gathering at that time, lest you are also included in the punishment.

Doubtful belief of Hypocrite - Quran Chapter 4 -137 to 139 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-613) - درس قرآن

Doubtful belief of Hypocrite

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

137.  Lo! those who believe, then disbelieve and then (again) believe, then disbelieve, and then increase in disbelief, Allah will never pardon them, nor will He guide them unto a way.

138.  Bear unto the hypocrites the tidings that for them there is a painful doom-

139.  Those who chose disbelievers for their friends instead of believers! Do they look for power at their hands? Lo! All power appertaineth to Allah.
137.  ‘Innal-laziina  ‘aamanuu  summa  kafaruu  summa  ‘aamanuu  summa  kafaruu  summaz-daaduu  kufral-lam  yaku-Nillaahu  li-yagfira  lahum  wa  laa  li-yahdi-yahum  Sabiilaa.

138.  Bash-shiril-Munaa-fiquuna  bi-‘anna  lahum  ‘azaaban  ‘aliimaa.

139.  ‘Allaziina  yattakhi-zuunal-  kaafiriina  ‘aw-liyaaa-‘a  min  duunil  Mu’-miniin.  ‘A-yabta-guuna  ‘inda-humul  ‘izzata  fa-  ‘innal-  ‘izzata  Lillaahi  jamii-‘aa.

    Commentary

‘Az-daaduu – (increased), zaa-‘id and ziyaadah etc. are also from the same origin, which means – more and more i.e. to increase, to exceed, to surpass.

It was mentioned previously that those people, who are weak in their beliefs or who show themselves believers only verbally, while in fact; they are not believers, they should strengthen their beliefs, as though; it signifies that their beliefs can be correct only when they will obey the commandments of Allah Almighty and when they will listen to the admonition and preaching, and act upon the advice. Then the belief can be born in to them eventually. Those persons who embrace Islam seemingly only to show that they are believers, there is fear for them that they deny the matters of Islam due to very little pretense. After that, they become Muslims again verbally either by saying someone or for their own advantage. Another time, they become Infidels again when situation permits them. In short, they remain wandering, sometime they wander hither and sometime thither. Thus they die a day. It is visible that gradation of infidelity and hypocrisy is spread over such people and they die in such form.

Then it has been described, “Cause to hear those persons carefully, who believe verbally only (not heartily) i.e. hypocrites and it is the glad tidings for them, because they are not able to hear any sincere glad news, that very painful doom is ready for them. Day by day, they incline towards infidels and set aside the Muslims. At last, they make the infidels only; their friends and leave the Muslims entirely. What is ultimately their wish? Do they hope that their respect will increase by joining the infidels? Remember it that All power appertains to Allah Almighty. Nobody has power (honor) either for himself or for others. Allah Almighty bestows power to whom He wills. Therefore, believe in Him, correct your faith and obey His Orders. Remain never upon this trust that someone else can give you respect.

Demand of Faith from the Believers - Quran Chapter 4 -136 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-612) - درس قرآن

Demand of Faith from the Believers

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

136.  O ye who believe! Believe in Allah and His Messenger and the Scripture which He hath revealed unto His Messenger, and the Scripture which He revealed aforetime. And whoso disbelieveth in Allah and His angels and His Scriptures and His messengers and the Last Day, he verily hath wandered far astray.
136.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aa-manuu  ‘aaminuu  Billaahi  wa  RasuuliHii  wal-Kitaa-billazii  nazzala  ‘alaa  RasuuliHii  wal-Kitaa-billazii    ‘anzala  min-qabl.  Wa  many-yakfur  Billaahi  wa  malaaa-‘ikatiHii  wa  KutubiHii  wa  RusuliHii  wal-Yawmil- ‘Aakhiri  faqad  zalla  zalaalam-  ba-‘iidaa.

    Commentary

‘Aa-manuu – (the person, who believed). ‘Aaminuu – (Believe in). The first word has been used for ‘the past tense’ and in the second word; it is being commanded ‘to have belief’. Base of both words is ‘Iimaan (Belief), which means, “To accept any fact with tongue and believe in it heartily. The Believers are being commanded that they should believe. It aims: O people! (who admit with tongue)! Put Faith also in Allah Almighty heartily and believe purely.

Nazzala – (revealed), its origin is Tanziil, which means ‘to alight slowly and tenderly', as ’the Holy Qur’an was revealed in about twenty three years tenderly and slowly’. ‘Anzala – (revealed), its base is the word ‘anzaal, which means ‘revealed all at once’, as all other heavenly Scriptures were revealed all at once.

It was commanded in the previous verse, “Speak the truth, and cooperate with the justice (whether that is against anyone). But these entire matters are impossible until the Belief is weak and the Faith is not perfect. Therefore, it is being instructed that you should believe in Allah Almighty wholeheartedly. Mere words are not useful.

Along-with it, believe in the Scripture of Allah Almighty, Holy Qur’an also wholeheartedly considering it a True Holy Book, and have faith heartily in that, which is written in it and act in accord with its instructions. Have belief too in those Scriptures as true Holy Books of Allah Almighty, which were revealed before Holy Qur’an. However, only those commands of old Scriptures are practicable, which have been sustained by this Last Scripture i.e. Holy Qur’an. Other entire matters, which exist into them, have not remained practicable after the revelation of Holy Qur’an. Acting upon the commandments of Holy Qur’an, the Last Scripture is necessary now. Because all good matters, which were mentioned in those Scriptures, exist in It.

The person, who will not believe in Allah Almighty, His Angels and Messengers (peace be upon Them), His Scriptures and the Day of Resurrection, his/her belief will not be acceptable. He/she should not consider sufficient; claim of belief by tongue only, but they should strengthen their faith in Allah Almighty and entire others, which have been described above and obey every command of Allah Almighty.

Evidence without let or hindrance - Quran Chapter 4 -135 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-611) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 135 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-611) - درس قرآن

Evidence without let or hindrance
Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

135.  O ye who believe! Be ye staunch in justice, witnesses for Allah, even though it be against yourselves or (your) parents or (your) kindred, whether (the case be of) a rich man or a poor man, for Allah is nearer unto both (them ye are). So follow not passion lest ye lapse (from truth) and if ye lapse or fall away, then lo! Allah is ever Aware of what ye do.
135.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aa-manuu  kuunuu  qawwaamiina  bil-qisti  shuhadaaa-‘a  Lillaahi  wa  law  ‘alaaa  ‘anfu-sikum  ‘a-wil-waali-dayni  wal-‘aqra-biin.  ‘Iny-yakun  ganiyyan  ‘aw  faqii-ran  fAllaahu  ‘awlaa  bihimaa.  Falaa  tattabi-‘ul-hawaaa  ‘an  ta’-diluu.  Wa  ‘in  tal-wuuu  ‘aw  tu’-rizuu  fa  ‘innAllaaha  kaana  bimaa  ta’-maluuna  Khabiiraa.

    Commentary

Qawwaamiina – (those persons, who stay steadily, prevent the flow of, and stop), it has been derived from Qayaam and is plural of QawwaamQawwaamiina  bil-qisti  (those, who staunch in justice) i.e. those people, who stay steadily in justice and keep it every time in view.

‘Alaaa  ‘anfu-sikum – (against yourselves), its literal meaning is ‘upon you’, that is to say; which is harmful for you.

‘Aqra-biina – (your kindred, near relatives), it is plural of ‘aqrab, which has been made from qariib. Qariib means ‘near, close’ and ‘aqrab means ‘very close i.e. kindred’.

Tu’-rizuu – (fall away), its origin is ‘a’-raaz. It means ‘averseness, hatred, shunning, shrinking from and dislike’. Here it aims, “lest you fall away something at the time of providing evidence’ or do not say about the truth, which was necessary for justice, so that the hearer may not understand correctly’.

A very valuable command has been delivered for the humankind in this verse and a clear likeness has been given about that, {which was described earlier, “wa  ‘iy-yaakum  ‘anitta-qUllaah (We ordain you, that you keep your duty to Allah) and do not fear anyone but Allah Almighty} in what manner your deeds should be? It has been commanded here that ‘you should establish justice mutually and say that, which is true. You should never tell a lie due to any kind of fear or regard of any person at the time of providing evidence or witness. Do not think about profit or loss of anybody including yourselves, when you are going to witness. Say clearly that, what is true. Do not keep in view, “Either I shall suffer a loss, if I speak the truth, or my parents will be involved in difficulty, or any kindred will suffer from some injury, or that you give false evidence to please and regard any rich, or you think that there is no harm by giving false evidence if well is being established for any poor”. Stop your wrong favors and fellow-feelings. Allah Almighty is more well-wisher than you, whether someone is poor or rich. When He orders you to speak the truth and not to show your partiality for anyone, then why do you favor any person? Master of entire human beings is Allah Almighty. You have to do your duty honestly and obey His Commandment.
