Behavior of the Jews and the Christians - Quran Chapter 5 – 43 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-686) -

Quran Chapter 5- 43 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-686) -

Behavior of the Jews and the Christians

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

43.  How come they unto thee for judgment when they have the Torah, wherein Allah hath delivered (for them)? Yet even after that they turn away. And such (folk) are not believers.
43.  Wa  kayfa  yuhakkimuu-naka  wa  ‘indahumut- Tawraatu  fiihaa  hukmUllaahi  summa  yatawallawna  mim-  ba’-di  zaalik.  Wa  maaa  ‘ulaaa-‘ika  bil-Mu’-miniin. (Section 6/10)

Commentary

Yuhakki-muunaka – (they come unto you for judgment), this word is from tahkiim, and has been derived from hakam. Many other words have also come out from it, like Haakim, Mahkuum etc. Tahkiim means “to appoint someone own judge, to produce own case before a person for decision”.

Yatawallawna – (to turn away), it is from tawallaaa, and its object is “they disagree to accept it”.

Mim-  ba’-di  zaalik – (even after that), it aims that “they have Torah, but even then they do so”.

The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is being informed by Allah Almighty that “the Jews do not come unto you really for judgment but they have any other aim for themselves in it, for instance; a severe punishment has been prescribed for a crime in Torah. They send the case of criminals unto you to be saved from that punishment, thinking that this Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is illiterate (that is to say; has not got education via proper worldly method), so how can He know that, which is written in Torah. However He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is merciful, so will judge a light punishment. In this manner, they will cause to admit the people their claim that there is no severe punishment in Torah. Therefore, the offender should be punished lightly in accord with the judgment of this Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

An incident was happened that a man from respectable class of the Jews violated the marriage-bed of a woman. Both were already married. As per Torah, the punishment for them was stoning. That is to say; “Kill both of them by stoning, while they are standing in front”. The Jews wished to save them as they belonged to a high class. So they wanted to finish this matter by concealing the command of stoning, which existed in Torah and punishing them lightly like beating them with a whip etc. So, some persons were sent unto the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), considering that He does not know the punishment of stoning, which has been described in Torah. Therefore, He will judge to give them a light punishment. Those persons were told, “If He gives a light punishment, then obey Him, otherwise No”.

It has been mentioned in the verse “Surprising! They come unto you for judgment while they have the Torah, wherein Allah Almighty has delivered for them about this offence clearly. Then what does it mean, if they do not act upon that command?

Actually, they are deprived of Belief. Neither they believe in Torah and nor in Holy Qur’aan. They have made the religion a game.

Quran Chapter 5- 42 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-685) -

   Justice and impartiality

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

42.  Listeners for the sake of falsehood! Devourers of what is forbidden. If then they have recourse unto thee (Muhammad) judge between them or turn aside, from them, and if you turn aside from them, then they cannot harm thee at all. But if thou judgest, judge between them with equity. Lo! Allah loveth the equitable.
42.  Sammaa-‘uuna  lil-kazibi  ‘akkaa-luuna  lis-suht.  Fa-‘in  jaaa-‘uuka  fahkum-  baynahum  ‘aw  ‘a’-riz  ‘anhum.  Wa  ‘in  tu’-riz  ‘anhum  falany-yazurruuka  shay-‘aa.  Wa  ‘in  hakamta  fahkum-  baynahum-  bil-qist.  ‘InnAllaaha  yuhibbul-Muqsitiin.

Commentary

‘A’-riz – (turn aside), Its origin is ‘A’-raaz, which has been made from ‘arz. ‘Arz means “towards, side, direction”, ‘A’-raaz Means “to turn a side, to fall back”. It aims “to deny from listening to someone”.

Lany-yazurruuka – (they cannot at all harm you), it is from zarar, which means “injury, detriment, anguish, harm, loss, to hurt, to damage”.

In the previous lesson, the circumstances of the Jews and the Hypocrites were being described that those people wish to remove the restrictions of the religion, because in the infidelity, they get opportunity of fulfilling their desires, and do, what they wish to do with the diabolical freedom.

Now it has been described that, these are the people, who hover around you to know your secrets. They have formed this habit “to find faults into you”, and since that they are unable to find any fault, so they wish to show your virtue as a fault, which cannot be without telling a lie. Therefore, their purpose of listening to you is that they may tell a lie. They are liars of a far off grade. Besides this, unlawful has licked up them. They snatch the right of someone else by pressing and reap advantage from the weakness of the weak, poverty of the poor and necessity of the needy as demanding of bribe, lending money on interest and compelling someone into service with or without pay etc. in short, they do not care, where they feel their worldly advantage.

O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! If these people have recourse unto You with their cases or law-suits, then it depends on you, either judge between them after hearing the case or turn aside, from them. If they are enraged, you should not worry, they cannot at all harm you. But if You are going to judge, then you should judge among them with equity. Allah Almighty loves the equitable. You should not put the justice behind, whether they agree to Your judgment or otherwise. We knew from it that whosoever has recourse unto Muslims to solve any matter of justice, they should judge between the opposite parties with equity.

Punishment for them who went astray - Quran Chapter 5 – 41c (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-684) -

Punishment for them who went astray

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

41c.  And he whom Allah doometh unto sin, thou (by thine efforts) wilt avail him naught against Allah. Those are they for whom the Will of Allah is that He cleanse not their hearts. Theirs in the world will be ignominy, and in the Hereafter an awful doom.

Commentary

Lan-  tamlika – (You shall avail naught, you will never find under control).

It has been told the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), “You should not grieve by observing the people, who become angry, when they are guided towards the goodness, and rebel more in the badness. Your duty is only to tell the method “how to be good” to the good people and ignore the evildoers. If they do not obey you, then you should not be sorrowful. Every kind of people will dwell in the world. The betterment of this life is in it that the good people remain in power”.

“If the goodness and the evil (both) exist in this world, then opportunity of choosing the way of truth or evil is provided and the humankind, by living in this world, are tested. That person is rewarded, who succeeds in this test. So Allah Almighty has given time to the evildoers too. Firstly, they are a trial for others. Secondly, they have been given chance of their correctness. Therefore, they are the people, who are not under your control so that you may bring them all towards the Straight Path”.

“Understand about them that their hearts have not remained able to accept the truth due to their continuous evil deeds. Now they are incurable and they have been entered in the evildoers, whose stay in this world is also compulsory corresponding to the formation of the world. The process of correction of the mankind cannot be stopped due to them, but if it is stopped, then the world would be perished”.

It has been decided for them that the disgrace and infamy is their luck in the world due to their evil deeds. Apparently if they are seen as getting strong, don’t worry! It is outward spring for only a few days and a casual form. Morally they will dwell tumbled down in the world and these are the meanings of “disgrace”.  On the Doomsday, there is nothing for them except pains, troubles, restlessness, disquietude and anxiety. What would be anguishing big than it that their hearts are impure? Here, the impression of impurity is the inferiority, and there – severe suffering (on the Day of Resurrection).

Tricks of disbelievers - Quran Chapter 5 – 41b (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-683) -

Quran Chapter 5- 41b (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-683) -

   Tricks of disbelievers

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

41b.  Changing words from their contexts and saying: If this be given unto you, receive it, but if this be not given unto you, then beware!
41b.  Yuharrifuunal-kalima  mim-  ba’-di  mawaazi-‘ih.  Yaquuluuna  ‘in  ‘uutiitum  haazaa  fakhu-zuuhu  wa  ‘illam  tu’-tawhu  fah-zaruu.

Commentary

Yuharrifuuna – this word is from tah-riif, which means “to change, to remove”.

The disbelievers, the hypocrites and those, whose belief is weak, pursue in this attempt, “Change that command of Allah Almighty according to own object, which seems against own desire”. But the belief does not permit it. Prophet Moses (peace be upon Him) brought Torah unto the Jews, but those people changed the words and meanings of the Scripture to fulfill their own wishes, for example; in Torah, the punishment of fornication by any married adulterer and adulteress was stoning. The Jews removed this command totally. Those Jews, who did not see the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), said them, who used to meet the Messenger, “You should ask the punishment of fornication from this Messenger. If He says that stoning is not punishment of fornication, then we shall be able to misguide the people that He is also with us in the denial of stoning. But if He keeps up the punishment of stoning, then you should not listen to Him” (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). As if, it is making the religion like one’s own wish. But Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) said, “The punishment of stoning is held in Torah” and a Jew scholar was made witness upon it,

On the other side Allah Almighty sent Angel Gabriel (peace be upon Him), who conveyed His message, “Keep up the punishment of stoning, because the object is to stop the fornication strongly. Big badness becomes public due to it.

These were those tricks, with which the Jews and other people had wished to break the restrictions of the religion, to get freedom of committing the crimes, tyranny and oppression. The Messenger of Allah Almighty has been commanded in this verse that He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) should do His duty and not grieve due to the deeds of the supporters of infidelity; at last the mischievous people would have to be pressed down.

Woe is me! at that time those people were pressed and remained under pressure for a long time, but then even the Muslims also became the slaves of desires and were entangled in the same badness, in which the Jews and the Hypocrites had been entangling, and they were punished in the same manner.

Behavior of Infidels - Quran Chapter 5 – 41a (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-682) -

Quran Chapter 5- 41a (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-682) -

   Behavior of Infidels

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

Having not belief in Allah Almighty as it is necessary, is called infidelity. Belief is on the contrary to it i.e. Belief in Allah Almighty correctly. The form of society was standing earlier on the foundation of infidelity, and in it, murder, fornication, theft, robbery, plundering and many other evils were common held by the custom. And this manner was set up, “Any powerful person could accomplish his desire by pressing the weak and the rich could affect his purpose by means of influence upon the poor as they wished”.

When Allah Almighty wished to sanctify the life of humankind from these evils, He sent His last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) in the world, revealed upon Him the law of Holy Qur’aan and commanded, “While Islam has come in the world, then independence of afflicting the weak, which was held in the infidelity, has remained no more”. It was its result that the selfish people got ready to finish Islam. Some people opposed openly. They fought against Islam. Some of them entered in Islam for the purpose that after being confidants, they might demolish its building and create illusion of infidelity. These people were called Hypocrites. The Jews (Banu Quraizah) co-operated with the supporters of infidelity but some of them remained separate. They decided to carry their cause into effect through the hypocrites, and began to meet the Muslims and work with the hypocrites. This verse has betrayed the evils of these both kinds of outward and hidden enemies of Islam. The plan of their wicked deeds or tricks has been drawn and the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has been satisfied, “You should not be sorrowful and dispirited, and you should continue Your (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) task”.

It has been commanded, “O Messenger! Let not grieve you the wickedness of the Jews and the Hypocrites. Their aim is to know the matters by entering into Muslims and publicize them in accordance with their own mode. But because the teachings of Islam are faultless and surely would be pleasing in their true color, so they dye them of a lie, and like this, they show a good thing as a bad one. They wish to electro-plate with a lie upon Your Sayings, which they listen from You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), because if those words spread in original, then the world will not keep up without believing in them”.

Now it is known that the world will believe in the beauty of Islam at that time, when it will be presented in its original form. Not believing in Islam by the world has a very strong reason that a false color has been electroplated upon it. On the contrary, the infidelity is accepted at that time, when its original color is covered with a glittering plated. If its original form would be seen by the people, then it would be found out and everybody would begin to hate it.

Another aim to listen to Your Sayings is to become listeners on behalf of those people, who do not come towards You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), but after knowing Your circumstances, they dig the roots of Islam and use to make plans to make the infidelity current.

We understood from this verse that Islam wishes to stop the crimes completely and save the weak and the poor from tyranny and oppression. The disbeliever keeps up the crimes individually or collectively, whether he/she says apparently himself/herself Muslim or is at a great distance from it.

(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

41a.  O Messenger! Let not those grieve thee who vie one with another in the race to disbelief, of such as say with their mouths: “We believe”, but their hearts believe not, and of the Jews; listeners for the sake of falsehood, listeners on behalf of other folk who come not unto thee,

Commentary

Yusaari-‘uuna – this word is from musaari-‘ah, which means “To run towards anything”. It has been derived from sur-‘at, which means “quickness, hurry”. It aims that they run rapidly. Afwaahun – (the mouths), it is plural of fawh, which means “the mouth”. Sammaa-‘uuna – (the listeners), it is plural of sammaaa’, which is from sama-‘a. Sama-‘a has two meanings i.e. ‘the ear’ and ‘to listen’. Sammaaa’ is the person, who listens to very attentively.

The people, who recite the Holy Qur’aan with attention and think upon its meanings, it is not hidden from them that “Islam teaches the humankind to dwell by mixing up with one another as united and with friendship. It guides that everyone should care mutually, “No harm to anyone from anyone, and help collectively one another mutually themselves, that any difference should not come between them in meeting with one another. And the person, who breaks unity, safety and peace, for him/her ‘Nip the evil in the bud’, so that disturbance and restlessness may not spread in the society due to that person’s wickedness and mischief”. When the humankind would be able to establish this type of system, then it would be understood that now correctly a society has been formed. True form of a society is that, in which evildoers fear from the good-doers. The society cannot be proper until the mischievous people have not as much threat in their hearts that they might not commit any crime due to the fear of their society. This matter has been caused to understand here by various sorts. The biggest law, which has been described in it is, “Support the good people and never help the evildoers”.

The foundation of Islamic society is in obedience of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) heartily. The Holy Qur’aan has explained the ways for the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) to establish a society and told the tales of those ruined people, who did not go straight way but went astray.

Islamic Punishments - Quran Chapter 5 – 40 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-680) -

Quran Chapter 5- 40 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-680) -

   Islamic Punishments

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

Some people have unbecoming thoughts about the punishments illustrated in the Holy Qur’aan. Keeping the Non-Muslims, particularly Europeans a side, the Muslims themselves have been involved in doubts about these punishments and are constantly thinking to amend them. Usually the imaginations like this have been born because we have taken the Islam as a very cursive thing. First thing, which we should understand about it is that Islam is not an invention of any mankind. Islam has been made by Him, Who is Creator of the entire humankind.

For us, the collection of God’s Commands is Holy Qur’an and It has been conveyed by means of the last Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Its meanings have been made us to understand by the tongue as well as it has been shown us practically, how to act upon It.

It has been emphasized in the Holy Qur’aan that the Muslims should establish their collective dwelling in such a manner that anyone of them may not do such a deed due to which mutual cooperation takes bad effect. It means that everybody should try to escape from the evildoing in each condition due to the fear “If one committed any sin, then all the people would break off their all connections with one due to the command of Allah Almighty and it would become difficult to dwell in the world for the one”. Whenever so much fear of society will take place in the heart of everybody, then it will be impossible for anyone to commit any crime. Wherever in the Holy Qur’aan, there is a command about punishment to someone, there, it has been admonished to the entire nation, “You should punish the criminal yourselves”. It appears that the aim from it is to terrify every person from the entire nation. Nobody has been given authority personally to punish anyone except the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

At first, the nation should arrange such system of education that everyone is afraid from it with effect from the childhood and his/her heart falls back from the intentions of evil deeds and troubling others. He/she should have faith that “My nation pursues to remove the crimes from the world and it can punish anyone most severely for this purpose”. After that, surely none can intend to commit any crime. Along with it, everyone should know, “If I committed any crime, all the people will be separate from me and break off their connections”.

Whenever the nation will succeed in producing such atmosphere, then it is apparent that there will be no chance of tyrannizing anyone, and if any person is punished properly, then all others will never commit any crime or evil.

Second misunderstanding, in which those persons, who object, are involved, is that, these punishments will be given without making any distinction and the interested people will approach for their enmity and malice, whereas, it is fact that before punishing the criminal lawfully, the proof of the crime will be necessary to be obtained.

As far as the severe punishments concern, these punishments are for establishing the nobility/politeness of high standard and respect of law by the people of the nation. It is better to finish the crimes through severe punishments instead of making them (punishments) as the game of children. If one or two persons are punished severely, then other all people will never think to commit any kind of crime.

It should be remembered that only that society is authorized to give these punishments, whose organization has already finished nearly all the crimes.
