Quran Chapter 9 – 71 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1214) - درس قرآن

Peculiarities of the Believers

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

71.  And the Believers, men and women, are protecting friends one of another. They enjoin the right and forbid the wrong, and they establish worship and they pay the poor-due, and they obey Allah and His Messenger. As for these, Allah will have mercy on them. Lo! Allah is Mighty, Wise.
71.  Wal-Mu’-minuuna  wal-Mu’-minaatu  ba’-zuhum  ‘awli-yaaa-‘u  ba’-z.  Ya’-muruuna  bil-ma’-ruufi  wa  yanhawna  ‘anil-munkari  wa  yuqii-muu-nas-Salaata  wa  yu’-tuunaz-Zakaata  wa  yutii-‘uunAllaaha  wa  Rasuulah.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  sayar-hamuhu-mUllaah.  ‘InnAllaaha  ‘Aziizun  Hakiim.

Commentary

Characteristics of the Hypocrites and fixed punishments for them were explained, so now, on the contrary to them, the characteristics of the Believers and the distinguishing gifts for them are being described.

It is commanded that the Believers, whether they are men or women, they all have a particular characteristic mutually that they are protecting friends, condolatory and supporters one of another. They enjoin for those works, which are beneficial for the entire mankind, but forbid from those works, which lead the human beings unto the disasters. They remember God Almighty every time. And for God’s remembrance, they establish congregational prayer. They are not niggards; but pay the prescribed portion of their wealth as poor-due for the help of the needy and indigent people. They neither rebel, nor transgress and nor disobey, but bow their heads before the commands of God Almighty and His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam).

In short, every habit of the Believers is opposite to the Hypocrites. Therefore, certainly their consequence will also be totally opposite to them. God Almighty cursed the Hypocrites, whereas He will be Merciful on the Believers. Allah Almighty is Omnipotent and He will requite every individual according to personal (good or evil) deeds.

The Hypocrites were warned that they might not be saved from the wrath of God Almighty, because they know the consequence of the people like them have passed away before them. Therefore, they should learn from their circumstances. At the end, the Believers have been informed: You will be rewarded surely for that lifestyle which you adopted during your life time. In addition, the biggest reward for you will be that God Almighty will be content from you. And you will be away from His wrath and curse for ever.

70.  Hath not the news of those before them reached them – the folk of Noah, Aad, Thamud, the folk of Abraham, the dwellers of Madian and the over thrown cities? Their Messengers (from Allah) came unto them with proofs (of Allah’s Sovereignty). So Allah sure wronged them not, but they did wrong themselves.

Commentary

God Almighty commanded in the previous verse that condition of   habitual negligence of the Hypocrites and being entangled only in pleasantness of this life by them, is the same as of those disobedient people, who were before them. Whereas, how much portion of the world has been given to them, certainly that is very less than that, which was given to those who passed away before them. But lifestyle of these people is the same as of those. Considering that only this world is everything, and their thinking that “being entangled in the temporal confusions is the actual gain of life” is just like those people who have passed away.

Ultimately, they should think about the consequence of ancient people. How they have become fearless from it that they may also suffer from disasters as the old people suffered. In this verse, the intention has been drawn particularly unto those special nations, which belonged to former times.

It is commanded: How is it possible that these people would not have known the circumstances of those nations, which have elapsed in the countries around their country. The folk of Noah (peace be upon him) rebelled and they were ruined by a storm of water. The people of Aad were proud and arrogant, so they were destroyed by wind-storm. The Thamud became obstinate; therefore they were killed by an unseen scream. The folk of Madian, who are also called “As-haabul Aykah” fell with the face down by earthquake and thundering sound.

Stories of all above mentioned people were discussed in Surah ‘A’-raaf and further description will come about them in the next lessons also. Mu’-tafikaat is name of villages of the folk of Lot. Land of those people was overthrown and stones were rained over them.

Allah Almighty commands that those people were ruined due to their habitual negligence and intransigence. We did not wrong them, but they wronged themselves. The Hypocrites should fear “whether their resurrection may not be like them”.

Commentary

It was indicated in the previous verses that the people should learn from the circumstances of those who have passed off from this world. In this verse, it has been described that behavior and condition of the both (the people who are existing now and those who have departed), is equal.

It is commanded that those people who were before you, they enjoyed according to their wishes with that which they had, and they did never think about the result. Now you should behold yourselves that; what have you been doing? The things which have come in your portion are not more than of them. They were physically stronger than you. More property, assets and wealth of the world they possessed than you.

Having everything less than them, you have been celebrating merriment like them, being ignorant and intoxicated. Your character is the same as of those people. They had forgotten God Almighty and His Omnipotence being intoxicated in their power, strength, property and wealth. Like them, you have also been entangled in the worldly matters and do not care for the Cause of Allah Almighty.

Then, you observed: What was happened with them? Their strong bodies, wealth and property could not save them from the punishment of God Almighty. Being inferior to them in all these matters, you have also been entangled in the problems of the world like them. Think for a moment! While even excessive worldly things could not save them, then how can these a few things save you from the torment of God Almighty?

Certainly, all deeds, done by them, were of no avail. Neither anything was useful for them in the world and nor on the Day of Resurrection. If you wish to see the people; who have been entangled in loss and scarcity, then observe them. Learn from their circumstances. Correct your character and fear Allah Almighty.

69a.  Kalla-ziina  min-  qablikum  kaanuuu  ‘ashadda  min-kum  quw-watanw-wa  ‘aksara  ‘amwaa-lanw-wa  ‘aw-laadaa.

Commentary

Common signs of the Hypocrites were described in the previous verse. The same are of the Infidels. But, they molest openly by opposing, whereas the Hypocrites seek the opportunity and deceive by hiding themselves. However, punishment of their common behavior is also common. Of course, retribution of their cheating and imposture will be given to them separately. In this verse, that torment has been described which is ready for the Hypocrites and the Infidels due to their enmity against Islam.

It is commanded that these open and hidden enemies of Islam that is to say; the Infidels and the Hypocrites, both deserve the Fire of the Hell to abide therein for ever due to their common behavior. Although, which class of the Hell has been fixed for the Hypocrites, that will be more painful, as it was described in Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’.

This torment of the Hell will be sufficient for punishment against their wicked deeds; and they will know clearly at every stage that which punishment is for which evil act. God Almighty will not listen to their crying for help; because they have been thrown away from the Mercy of God Almighty due to disobedience in the world (this life). And such torment will be clinging with them every time, whether its peculiarity is changed, but the pain will remain continuously.

Then it is commanded that their conduct is the same as of those who were before them, who were mightier than these people in strength, more at ease in wealth and abundance of children. The mankind who have forgotten Divine Power and Omnipotence of Allah Almighty, their intention is drawn unto the circumstances of ancient nations, who were more outstretched in every way than these people.

67.  The hypocrites, both men and women, proceed one from another. They enjoin the wrong, and they forbid the right, and they withhold their hands (from spending for the Cause of Allah). They have forgotten Allah, so He hath forgotten them. Lo! the hypocrites, they are the transgressors.

Commentary

The mention of the Hypocrites has been going from far. This group appeared after arriving at Madinah. Before it, in Makkah, there were only two groups – openly Muslims or freely Infidels. Some people of Madinah considered in it suitableness to immediate gain that apparently they must show that “they are Muslims, but when look for an opportunity; they should try to molest them (the Muslims).

Accordingly, they used to remain as sidebar punching “A wolf in the garb of a lamb”. In the Battle of ‘Uhud, they vexed severely, but could not hurt the Muslims. Moreover, they did hurt themselves. God Almighty informed His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) and his Companions (May Allah be pleased with them) about their wickedness at every occasion. But due to His (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) forbearance and politeness, they became more bold, even that when, it was commanded that they should be prepared for the Battle of Tabuuk, then; their depravity was disclosed completely, after that, they could not rebel again.

Their common signs have been described in this verse. It is commanded that behavior of the Hypocrites is the same, whether they are men or women. Apparently they are friends, but secretly they seek any opportunity of deceiving. It is the principle of all of them that they enjoin for those deeds, which have been determined by the people as evil. And which deeds have been accepted as good works, they forbid from them. They are extremely stingy. Fund collecting is their routine. They turn up their nose and knit the eyebrows from spending for the Cause of God Almighty. They believe never in Allah Almighty wholeheartedly. Therefore, He is also inattentive from them. Real religious-less and disobedient are these people, because they accept the law of the religion with their tongue, but go against the law in time.

It shows that only that person can be saved from sins who believe that God (Allah Almighty) is Omnipresent and who fears from His Seizure; otherwise if someone does not believe in Allah Almighty, then there is no power; which may make him/her right, true, just and honest.
