Surah
‘Al-‘Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
BisMIllaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

23. And if ye
are in doubt concerning that which We have revealed unto Our slave
(Muhammad), then produce a Surah of
the like thereof , and call your witnesses beside Allah if ye
are truthful.

23. Wa
‘in- kuntum fii ray-bim-mimmaa nazzal-Naa ‘alaa
‘AbdiNaa fa’-tuu bi-Suuratim-mim- mis-lih. Wad-‘uu
shuha-daaa- ‘akum- min- duuNIllaahi ‘in- kuntum saadi-qiin.

Lesson
Nazzal-Naa – (We revealed). This word has been
derived from tanziil, which means “to bring anything from upper to
down”. Here it aims Holy Qur’aan which was revealed unto Muhammad ‘the Last
Prophet’ (SallAllaahu alayHi
wa AaliHii Wasallam) by Allah Almighty
through the Angel Gabriel (peace be upon Him).
Mis-lihii – (Like this), In this word, it has been
indicated towards the both excellences of Holy Qur’aan, ‘literal’
as well as ‘spiritual’. Its text is so easy that everybody can understand
easily. The meaning is discussed beautifully, entirely and clearly. Second big
excellence of the Holy Qur’aan is that the way of living has been taught
to every person ‘male’ and ‘female’. If an individual goes on this true path,
he/she will succeed in this world and on the Day of Resurrection. If any
infidel is in doubt that it is not the Word of God, it is a talk of any human
only, then he should try to bring any one surah like this,
which has both excellence as mentioned above. If not so, then he should accept
it that the Holy Qur’aan is really the Word of God Almighty. And certainly,
nobody can make any such Book, if someone is doubtful and wishes, he may
include the entire world in this work, he is free.
Shuha-daaa-
‘akum – (Your
witnesses), this word is plural of shahiid, which means “informed,
intelligent”. Here it aims “supporter in creation of any surah like Qur’aan. Second famous meaning of it is “any witness”. If
here its meaning is taken as a witness, then it will be meant “Call those
people to witness your claim, who verify you, that you have written the answer
of this Surah.
In the previous verses,
God Almighty commanded that He is the Creator of all human beings and
establishes them. So He is the Worshiped only. It was necessary to prove it
that by the proof of the prophet-hood of the Messenger (Peace be upon Him) it
must be proved, so that it may be clear to the human beings that the Holy Qur’aan, which was bestowed to the Messenger, is the Word of God.
Due to this reason,
after the announcement of Oneness of God, the people were invited to accept the
Prophet-hood. And it was told them that if they had any doubt in the truth of
Prophet, and they presume that the Holy Qur’aan is not the
Speech of God (we seek shelter of Allah) then they should produce and show any
word like this. The entire nations and their scholars who oppose Islam, tried
their best to do so, but they could neither do so and nor they would be able to
do so in future.
