Plots against the Messenger - Quran Chapter 4-81 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-574) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 81 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-574) - درس قرآن

Plots against the Messenger

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

81.  And they say: (It is) obedience; but when they have gone forth from thee a party of them spend the night in planning other than what thou sayest.  And Allah recordeth what they plan by night. So ignore them and put thy trust in Allah. And Allah is Sufficient as Trustee.
81.  Wa  yaquuluuna  Taa-‘ah;  fa-‘izaa  barazuu  min  ‘indika  bayyata  taaa-‘ifatum-minhum  gayrallazii  taquul.  Wallaahu  yak-tubu  maa  yu-bayyituun.    Fa-‘a’-riz  ‘anhum  wa  ta-wakkal  ‘alAllaah.  Wa  kafaa  Billaahi  Wakiilaa.

Commentary

Taa-‘atun  - (obedience), if after hearing any order from some, it is said! Taa-‘atun, it will be meant: I agreed, I admitted or I believed.

bayyatun  - this word has come out from bayaat, which means “night”. Tabayyat means “to work at night”. Here it aims “asking advice of others at night”.

‘A’-riz  - this word is from ‘a’-raaz, which means “to ignore, to turn away, not to care”. It is a token of negligence, inattention.

Another artifice of the hypocrites has been narrated in this verse. When they used to hear the Sayings of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), they used to say before him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), “We have admitted, accepted or agreed to your entire commands wholeheartedly and our duty is to obey you”. But when they used to get out from the company of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), then they used to plan secretly at night and bring to a conclusion that possibly they would never obey the Prophet ‘Muhammad’ (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and oppose him as far as possible. Their outward and hidden are not equal. They backbite and do not do that, what they say. If they think that, they would continue deceiving the Muslims by making apparent lame excuses like this, and digging secretly their roots, then they are at wrong because this all secret planning (at nights) is being observed by Allah Almighty. He knows their entire wicked activities from the beginning to the end. This double-faced conduct of the hypocrites will not run more ahead and their fraud will be disclosed positively.

The obedience does not have the meaning that their tongues say, “Yes Sir, very well and all right”, but their hearts make up the mind to commit against it. After that; Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is being commanded, “Trust in Allah Almighty. What He desires to do, does it properly. Neither He needs any help of someone, nor does He care for any opposite. He is Sufficient to complete all tasks. Believe in Him”.

After describing the double-faced policy (conspiracies and artifices) of the Hypocrites, Allah Almighty commanded to the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), “You should turn away from them and put your trust in Allah Almighty; because His Adroitness is Sufficient. Neither you are needy of anybody and nor progress of Islam is connected with any person”.

Obedience of the Messenger - Quran Chapter 4-80 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-573) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 80 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-573) - درس قرآن

Obedience of the Messenger

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

80.  Whoso obeyeth the Messenger hath obeyed Allah, and whoso turneth away; then We have not sent thee as a warder over them.
80.  Many-yuti-‘ir-Rasuula  fa-qad  ‘ataa-‘Allaah.  Wa  man-tawallaa  famaaa  ‘arsal-Naaka  ‘alay-him  hafiizaa.

Commentary

Tawallaa – (turned away), it means ‘to disobey, to revolt’.

Hafiizun – (a warder, a guard), that is to say; the Watching, who hinders and the protector.

A valuable advantage has been mentioned in this verse, which, due to coming of the last Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in this world, can be acquired by the people. It is the fruit of the Belief that those people, who have believed in Allah Almighty as ‘their and the entire worlds’ Creator, Preserver, Nourisher and Supplier of all needs’, surely they want to obey Him. How a great light is for them in it that Allah Almighty sent a Man duly appointed as His selected Messenger (Muhammad) (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), and proclaimed that the person, who will obey his orders, he will Our obedient and who will disobey Him, he will be considered as he disobeyed Us. He will not be able to please Us (Allah Almighty) through any other method. How a big kindness of Allah Almighty is that He made too much easy and practicable His own obedience for the mankind.

Then He commanded to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), “Continue explaining before the people those instructions, which they have to do. If someone does not act upon your sayings, in this matter you will not be held responsible. We have not appointed you as a warder or guard over them. We will decide about these disobedient people at Our Own. You should neither grieve and nor care for them”. Alas! Some people think that they can make their life good by following the rich, the proud and the haughty persons, leaving such a kind and loving Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

Allah Almighty has established this principle forever in this verse that the person, who wants to be Our obedient, he should obey Our Messenger, and who will not obey the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), he is Our disobedient. He will be punished with the same torment, which has been fixed for the disobedient. In the earlier verses, it has been told clearly that if the punishment is awarded to you, that will be from Allah Almighty and cause of it will be your own deeds. The Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) can neither be held responsible, nor does the blame rest upon him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him).

There is also an invitation towards the easy path for the human being in this verse, as well as a vigorous threat too along with it. If you will obey the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), then your life of this world and the Hereafter will be correct, because due to obedience you will become obedient servant of Allah Almighty and there is nothing more than it to decorate the life. Moreover, if you will disobey, then you should not charge the Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for being punished. The only duty of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is to deliver the Message of Allah Almighty. It does not include in his duty to drive you forcibly on the Straight Path. Due to disobeying the orders of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), you disobeyed Allah Almighty. Now God will punish you Personally.

78b.  And if a happy thing befalleth them they say: This is from Allah; and if an evil thing befalleth them they say: This is of thy doing (O Muhammad). Say (unto them): All is from Allah. What is amiss with these people that they come not nigh to understand a happening?

79.  Whatever of good befalleth thee (O man) it is from Allah, and whatever of ill befalleth thee it is from thyself. And We have sent thee (Muhammad) as a Messenger unto mankind. And Allah is Sufficient as Witness.
78b.  Wa  ‘in-tusib-hum  hasanatuny-yaquuluu  haazihii  min  ‘inDillah.  Wa  ‘in-tusib-hum  sayyi-‘atuny-yaquuluu  haazihii min  ‘indik.  Qul  kullum-min ‘inDillah.  Famaali-haaa-‘ulaaa-‘il-qawmi  laa  yakaaduuna  yaf-qahuuna  hadiisaa.

Commentary

Hasanatun  - (a happy thing), everything of benefit, happiness, goodness, betterment and virtue are included in the meanings of this word. Here it aims ‘attainment of victory and success, wealth, fortune and riches’.

Sayyi-‘atun  - (an evil thing), each kind of loss, badness, defect and ruin includes in its meaning. In this verse, it signifies towards the defeat and vital loss) pertaining to life and property).

One more manner of execution of the Hypocrites has been described in this verse. When success is acquired in the battle and abundant wealth is possessed then they say, “Allah Almighty bestowed us victory with His Dignity and gave so much wealth”. On the contrary, if the defeat is faced, and loss of life and property is confronted in the battle, then they accuse the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that He did not plan correctly for the war, due to which we suffered from this loss.

Allah Almighty commands, “Tell them that victory and defeat, success and failure, profit and loss (entire things) are from Allah Almighty. You do not understand the matter to the extent that nobody can do anything except His Will”. In the next verse, Allah Almighty narrated, “You should understand that whatever of good befalls you (O people) it is from Allah Almighty, and whatever of ill befall you it is the consequence of your own deeds. When any badness reaches you, surely you are guilty in it, due to which you are punished, so that you do not repeat such error again. This punishment is given to correct you. What does Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) plan, is also from Allah Almighty, then why do you blame Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)? Whatever happens; is from Allah Almighty. If you gain something, that is His Kindness and if you lose something, that is also from Him.

77b.  Say (unto them, O Muhammad): The provision of this world is very little; the Hereafter will be better for him who wardeth off (evil); and ye will not be wronged the husk upon a date-stone.

78a.  Wheresoever ye may be, death will overtake you, even though ye were in lofty towers.
77b.  Qul  mataa- ‘uddunyaa  qaliil. Wal- ‘aakhiratu  khayrul-li-manittaqaa  wa laa  tuzlamuuna  fatiilaa.

78a.  ‘Ayna  maa  takuunuu  yud-rik-kumul-mawtu  wa  law  kuntum  fii  buruujim-mushayyadah.

Commentary

Mataa-‘un – (benefit, wealth, the provision; by which one may reap advantage and enjoy.

Wa laa  tuzlamuuna – (and you will not be wronged), it has been derived from zalama, which means ‘to tease or tyrannize any person, to seize someone’s right ’.

Fatiilaa – (the thread, the husk upon a date-stone), here it means that your right will not be seized even equal to a very little piece of thread.

Buruujim-mushayyadah – (the lofty towers, dignified forts), Burj is singular of buruuj which means ‘a fort and a magnificent palace’. Mushayyada means ‘made of cooked lime’. The aim of this verse is to tell the people that it is not possible to escape from the death, whether they hide themselves in even very solid forts.

It was mentioned in the previous part of the verses (77a) that when Jihad was prescribed and the battle accessed their heads, then some people began to tremble due to fear of war and beseech in the Royal Court of Allah Almighty, “Our Lord! Why have You commanded us to fight? If only You would have given us respite yet a while, then it was better, if we would have remained living for some more days and be saved from the death”. In short, the love of the world overcame upon their hearts and they began to fear from death. They have been instructed in this verse that, “Say {unto them, O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)}: The provision (relishes and pleasure) of this world is very little and only for a few days; nevertheless delight and comfort of the Hereafter will be better for him who takes care of the Will of Allah Almighty and wards off evil. Commit to your mind! The person, who will do good with such thought, he will be given full retaliation and reward. Moreover, effort of any person to please Allah Almighty and to escape from His disobedience will not be useless; even that none will be wronged equal to the husk upon a date-stone. In the world, such circumstances are faced that a person wants something but his desire is not fulfilled. He works hard but does not gain its fruit. In addition, whatever he gets a little; that is finished in a few days. For the Hereafter, what will be done according to the command of Allah Almighty, its retaliation will be given in full. That will not be for a few day but forever. Now about the death, so none should be afraid of it. Nobody can be saved from it. There is no place in the entire world, where someone can acquire refuge. At last, he/she has to die a day, who has come in this world. It is useless to have passion to live forever in the world. If someone did not die today, he will die tomorrow. Strong underground chambers, lofty forts and palaces cannot save any creature from the death. It is better to be slain for the Cause of Allah Almighty and earn comfort, pleasure and satisfaction for ever, from dying by rubbing heels. In these some words of Holy Qur’an, how much great reality has been explained very easily? This advice cannot take place in the heart so deeply even from the hourly speeches of great preachers as it settles down by meditating a while in this very small verse. These are the forceful words, by listening to which, the Muslims completed so much magnificent tasks in the beginning that the world praises them till today.

Fearing from fighting for the Cause of God

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

77a.  Hast thou not seen those unto whom it was said: Withhold your hands, establish worship and pay the poor-due, but when fighting was prescribed for them behold! a party of them fear mankind as though it were fear of Allah or with greater fear, and say: Our Lord! Why hast Thou ordained fighting for us? If only Thou wouldst give us respite yet a while!
77a.  ‘Alam  tara  ‘ilal-laziina  qiila  lahum  kuffuuu’aydi-yakum  wa  ‘aqiimus-Salaata wa  ‘aatuz-Zakaah.  Falammaa  kutiba  ‘alay-himul-qitaalu  ‘izaa  farii-qum-minhum  yakh-shaw-nan-naasa  ka-khashya-Tillaahi  ‘aw  ‘ashadda  khashyah.  Wa    qaaluu  Rabbanaa  lima  katabta  ‘alaynal-qitaal.  Law-laaa  ‘akh-Khartanaaa  ‘ilaaa  ‘ajalin- qariib.

Commentary

Kutiba  ‘alay-him – (prescribed for them),it has been described earlier that if the word ‘alaa comes before the word katab, then it will be meant “to fix, to prescribe, to adjudge”.

‘Izaa – generally it means “when”. It also means “suddenly, all at once, abruptly etc.” it is used at such occasions, where something happens which was not expected.

‘Akh-Kharta – (giving respite, to delay, to keep giving up), the words taakhiir and mu-‘akhkhir have also been derived from it which means postponement, posterior respectively.

When the people embraced Islam in Makkah, the infidels and idolaters began to vex and tyrannize them by various sorts. Due to this strait-ness, the Muslims used to come to the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and say that they should be permitted to strive, but they were replied that they had not still been permitted to fight. Till then; there was only command to establish worship and pay the poor-due from the wealth. It has been described in this verse that when the permission was given to fight after flight (Hijrat) from Makkah to Madinah, then terror overcastted upon the persons, who were weak in their Belief. They began to tremble due to fear and were frightened from the people (the creature), more than the fear of Allah Almighty (the Creator). They began to say, “Our Lord! Why have You ordained fighting for us? If only You would have given us respite still a while, then it were better”. In Makkah, the Muslims were not permitted to fight but they were being prepared for war, because it was not acceptable to take revenge from the oppressors immediately. Such fight like savages was not acceptable to Islam. Therefore, the Muslims were commanded in Makkah that they should withhold their hands (for having patience from fighting), remain busy in establishing prayers and paying the poor-due, so that they might become habituated to sacrifice their life and wealth, and they might know, “How to bear the troubles and difficulties”.

War of Believer and Disbeliever - Quran Chapter 4-76 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-569) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 4- 76 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-569) - درس قرآن

War of Believer and Disbeliever

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

76.  Those who believe do battle for the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve do battle for the cause of idols; so fight the minions of the devil. Lo! The devil’s strategy is ever weak.
76.  ‘Allaziina  ‘aamanuu  yuqaa-tiluuna  fiii  Sabii-Lillaah.  Wallaziina  kafaruu  yuqaa-tiluuna  fiii  Sabii-lit-Taaguuti  faqaa-tiluu  ‘aw-liyaaa-‘ash-Shaytaan.  ‘Inna  kaydash-Shaytaani  kaana  za-‘iifaa.

Commentary

‘Allaziina  ‘aamanuu  (The Believers), the word ‘aamanuu has been derived from ‘iimaan, which means ‘to accept by tongue and have belief in the heart. Only they are Believers, who believe in Allah Almighty, His Angels (peace be upon them), His Scripture including the last (Holy Qur’an), His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them) including the last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and the Day of Resurrection, and know it unchangeable that they will have to clear (after coming into life again) their accounts of deeds which they had done during their worldly life.

‘Allaziina  kafaruu – (the Disbelievers, Infidels and Idolaters), this word has been derived from kafara that means ‘to hide, to deny and not to thank’. Those are Infidels, who do not believe in the Principles of Islam and consider that the worldly life is the only life, and they say that ‘there will be nothing after it’. That is to say; they do not believe in the Hereafter.

Taaguuti  - this word has been derived from the word Tugyaan, which means ‘refractory, disobedient mischievous and wicked’. It is the title of Satan also, who tries always to mislead the humankind from the Straight Path.

Kaydun  (the strategy, the gait and the trap), as trick of the victory to be achieved by someone. ‘aw-liyaaa-‘u  - it is plural of Walii, which means ‘friends, supporters, helpers, minions, favorites, low flatterers’.

Allah Almighty has fixed a proper manner of living in this world for the mankind. The human being has not been left free entirely like the animals (that what they want may do), the name of this manner is ‘Siraatal Mustaqiim, the Straight Path and the True Religion’. It is the Sabii-Lillaah. At another place in the Holy Qur’an, it has also been called SiraatAllaah.

A secret Power, who is called with different names like Satan, the Devil, Taaguut, he has made up His mind to oppose the human being like enemy in each condition and he uses to try the humanity to mislead from the Correct and Straight Path, as far as it is possible for him. Alas! That a major quantity from the human beings has went astray from the Straight Way due to his deception and they do not listen to anyone due to following their own wishes.

The History is witness that many nations of human beings ruined, being entangled in these meshes and two Paths were set up permanently for the people. One Path is fixed by Allah Almighty, which has been called Sabii-Lillaah in the verse and the other is Path of Satan (Sabii-lit-Taaguuti).

It has been commanded in the verse that the Believers and obedient of Allah Almighty fight to support His Way. Moreover, those who disbelieve in Allah Almighty and disobey Him, they fight in the partisanship of the way of the Devil. Then it has been mentioned that apparently, the confederacies of Satan seem very frightful and strong, but in fact his strategy is weak and that has no reality before the matured intentions of the honest people.

Commentary

Yuqaa-tilu  fii  Sabii-Lillaahi  - (fought for the Cause of Allah), this sentence has come three times in these verses. The aim is to emphasize upon the matter that the battle should only be for the religion of Allah Almighty. He approves that none should prevent any other from going on the Way of Religion. The war is with them only who do not believe in the true religion themselves; as well as obstruct others too from acting upon the religious instructions.

It is understood that Jihad means ‘to be prepared for fighting against those people, who prevent the human beings from the straight path and want to make others their own harmonious by violence. Sign of those misled people is that they view only worldly advantages of their own and their companions, and wish to keep others pressed forcibly for their personal desires. They say, “We are superior to all other persons and they should remain our servants”.

Contrary to them, there are some such people, who like goodness for entire humankind and consider their gain in the gain of all other human beings. Neither they are proud nor haughty. They do not want to keep others under their influence. They deem necessary to help the poor, the needy and the feeble people, and there is neither any interest of their own in it, nor they think about any benefit. Rather their aim is only to save the creature of Allah Almighty from any disaster. They neither claim any gratitude from someone, nor desire any partiality/favor. These people believe truly in Allah Almighty and His religion.

Allah Almighty commands that while those men and women, little, elder and weak children of any inhabited place would be crying and screaming for help, defence and protection against the tyrants, who have made them oppressed, then what has happened with you that you do not go forth to help them? Moreover, why do you not grip up your loins for fighting against the oppressors?
