Acceptance by the wrongdoers

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 37.  Who doeth greater wrong than he who forgeth a lie concerning Allah or denieth His tokens. (For such) their appointed portion of the Book (of destiny) reacheth them till, when Our Messengers come to seize their souls, they will say: Where (now) are those to whom ye use to call upon beside Allah? They will say: They have departed from us; and they will testify against themselves that they were disbelievers.
 37.  Faman  ‘azlamu  mimmanif-taraa  ‘alAllaahi  kaziban  ‘aw  kazzaba  bi- ‘AayaatiH.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  yanaaluhum  nasiibu-hum-minal-Kitaab.  Hattaaa  ‘izaa  jaaa-‘at-hum  RusuluNaa  yatawaffaw-nahim,  qaaluuu  ‘ayna  maa  kuntum  tad-‘uuna  min  duuNIllaah.  Qaaluu  zalluu  ‘annaa  wa  shahiduu  ‘alaaa  ‘anfu-sihim  ‘annahum  kaanuu  kaafiriin.

Commentary
Yanaalu – (will reach, will be given), this word is from yanal, which means “to acquire, to reach”. Yanaalu will be meant “shall be given to them”.

Kitaab – it means a written script. Here it aims “Lawhum- Mahfuuz” (Such Protected Table or Board on which, the destinies of the world since its creation are written), every that thing has been mentioned in it, which is given to every human being.

RusuluNaa – the Messengers (peace be upon Them) sent down by Us (Allah Almighty). Rusulun is plural of Rasuul. This word is an adjective tense, which has been derived from Risaalah. Risaalah means “to send). Rasuul means “sent, Messenger, Apostle”. In this verse, it aims the Angels (peace be upon Them).

It has been described in this verse: Who would be big loser than those people who consider the Revelations of Allah Almighty as mockery and a joke? It is commanded: That, which these people say! It is the command of Allah which has been given to us and which are we doing, whereas that is wrong and a lie, which they are telling.

They consider that the verses of Allah Almighty are compositions invented by the mankind, whereas they are at wrong. These people are destroying themselves. Their appointed portion of the Book of destiny will reach them, either that will be trouble or ease.

Then, when the time of their death will reach and the Angels of Allah Almighty (peace be upon Them) will come to take their soul, at that time their senses will be lost, everlasting calamity and retribution will come before their eyes. The Angels (peace be upon Them) will ask them: Where are those people, idols or your those ill-founded and destructive hobbies today, in which you had been entangled and to whom you used to call upon beside Allah? At that time, they will answer being confused: Really neither we see anyone from our protecting friends and supporters and nor have we remembered now those amusements and playfulness, with which we used to cure our miseries, grieves and afflictions.

At that time they will be sure that neither there was any supporter except Allah Almighty and nor any other can be, and that, verily they were disbelievers and at the wrong path.

Quran Chapter 7 – 35 & 36 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-946) -

Way of salvation

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 35.  O Children of Adam! When Messengers of your own come unto you who narrate unto you My Revelations, then whosoever refraineth from evil and amendeth – there shall no fear come upon them neither shall they grieve.

36.  But they who deny Our Revelations and scorn them – such are rightful owners of the Fire; they will abide therein forever.
 35.  yaa-Baniii-Aadama  ‘immaa  ya’-ti-yannakum  Rusulum-minkum  yaqus-suuna  ‘alay-kum  ‘AayaaTii,  famanit-taqaa  wa  ‘aslaha  falaa  khaw-fun  ‘alayhim  wa  laa  hum  yahzanuun.

36.  walla-ziina  kazzabuu  bi- ‘AayaatiNaa  wastak-baruu  ‘an-haaa  ‘ulaaa-‘ika  ‘As-haabun-Naar.  Hum  fiihaa  khaaliduun.

Commentary
‘Immaa – (If), actually, there are two words – ‘inna and maa, ‘Inna is a word “conditional”, which means “if”. The word “Maa” has been increased with it and “n” of ‘inna has been concealed in “m” of maa.

‘It-taqaa – (refrain from evil, frightened), it is past tense and its origin is ‘ittaqaaa-‘un, which has been derived from Taqwaa, it means – safety, escape. ‘Ittaqaaa-‘un means “refraining from evil because of any fear, so it aims “fear of God”.

‘Astak-baruu – (scorn, was proud, was arrogant), origin of this word is ‘istikbaar, which is from the word kibar. Kibar means – grandeur, pride, greatness. ‘Istikbaar means – haughtiness, vainglory etc. i.e. to consider oneself great. The object from these verses – “considering oneself great” is that “turning face from someone by saying that he/she is not worthy of our status as, some people say usually: What are you causing to know us? We are not children. Those people, who do so, they do arrogance from the advice.

It was pointed out in the previous verse that a fixed term is given to every nation that it should carry its people on the right path, so that they may not oppress one another. But it has been described in this verse that Children of Adam (peace be upon Him) are one nation.

It aims that it is a mutual duty of the entire people that they should look after all other persons. Every individual has been directed that he/she must refrain from evil, fear from God Almighty and try to correct themselves every time.

Allah Almighty commands: O Children of Adam! We have arranged for your guidance in the world. For this purpose, My Messengers (peace be upon Them), who will be mankind like you, will come unto you. You should obey Them. They will instruct you for two things:

1.    Refrain from evil and fear from God. It is called Taqwaa.

2.    Do good works. It aims “to correct and amend oneself”.

They will cause to hear you My Revelations. Those individuals, who will follow the Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them), they will escape themselves as well as they will save their nation too from disgrace and ignominy, but those, who will not obey Them (Messengers – peace be upon Them), their abode will be Fire of the Hell on the Day of Resurrection.

Prescribed term - Quran Chapter 7 – 34 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-945) -

Prescribed term

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 34.  And every nation hath its term, and when its term cometh, they cannot put it off an hour nor yet advance (it).
 34.  Wa  likulli  ‘ummatin  ‘ajal.  Fa- ‘izaa  jaaa-‘a ‘ajaluhum  laa  yasta’-khiruuna  saa-‘atanw-wa  laa  yastaq-dimuun.

Commentary
‘Ajalun – (the term, time for which anything lasts, period of session, deadline for expiry of time)

‘Ummatun – (nation, community, group, class, party, band etc., according to original dictionary, it means “a collection, which, by joining more permanent things becomes a permanent thing itself”.

It was described in the previous verse that Allah Almighty has forbidden the human beings from some evil deeds, so they should give them up forever. Some people may think after hearing this Revelation that many people commit the forbidden acts fearlessly, but even then they suffer no injury and they enjoy unhesitatingly. What is benefit then to forbid anyone? If those people are punished immediately who commit the forbidden then however, meanings of forbidden can be understood, otherwise, it seems that forbidding is useless. There is a reply to this doubt in the above mentioned verse.

It is commanded that every group of people has been given a fixed time for working. The time of its termination has been prescribed. And when its term will come, they will neither be able to put it off even a moment and nor advance it. If we meditate upon this verse, two things are understandable here:

1.    No one lives alone in this world but belongs to any particular group, community, city, country and has relation with the entire human beings. Before the revelation of this verse, some people came unto the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and said: You have told us that the wrath of Allah Almighty comes because of His disobedience, but we have observed that an individual commits a sin but is never punished. The answer which has been given to them in this verse is that: O mankind! You are saved for some days because a temporary respite has been given to your nation. That sinner is under the shelter of the nation. Until she will continue looking after him, he can be saved. But at last this nation will be ruined, then none will be his savior/protecting friend.

2.    Giving a respite to the nation is produced in the formation of the world, so that it must carry its people on the Straight Path. When it will not remain able to perform this duty, it will be finished. In other words, it is meant that its honor and good name will be ruined, and it will exist like the contemptible. Its reputation and dignity will be over. And other nations will subdue it. It will be the result that when this nation had its term, it could not control own people. The individuals must have perceived that: Our nation will be destroyed because of our own evil deeds. Its destruction is certainly our destruction.

 33.  Say: My Lord has forbidden only indecencies, such of them as are apparent and such as are hidden, and sin and wrongful oppression, and that ye associate with Allah that for which no warrant hath been revealed, and that ye tell concerning Allah that which ye know not.
 33.  Qul  ‘innamaa  harrama  Rabbi-yal-fawaahishi  maa  zahara  minhaa  wa maa  batana  wal-‘isma  wal-bagya  bi-gayril-haqqi  wa  ‘an-tushrikuu  BIllaahi  maa  lam  yunazzil  biHii  sultaa-nanw-wa  ‘an-taquuluu  ‘alAllaahi  maa  laa  ta’-lamuun.

Commentary
It was revealed in the previous verse that Allah Almighty has not prevented you from wearing raiment/adornment and eating pure and good things, but He has created all these things for the purpose that His bondmen in the world should reap advantage. In this verse, those matters have been described, which are forbidden by Him.

1.    He has forbidden indecencies (lewdness and shamelessness), whether those are apparent or hidden.

2.    The sin is forbidden. The word ‘ism has come in the verse, that is to say; Allah Almighty has forbidden “’ism”. ‘Ism means “such act, which is against the Islamic Law and the effect of which is bad on others or which is harmful for oneself as - committing suicide, making the lawful things forbidden upon oneself without any reason, slackness in worshiping physically like prayer and fasting etc. and such other matters, for example; using alcohol, habit of intoxicating agents, gambling, use of poisons, drying own hands and feet as usually jogi people etc. do.

3.    Using force against others without any reason, teasing and hurting someone – like robbery, theft etc. all these kinds of matters are included in it, in which, loss or damage of anyone comes, whether that is only a little. These entire matters are included in forbidden.

4.    Worshiping someone else or perceiving interference of any other like remover of difficulties or supplier of any want except Allah Almighty, as idolaters of the Arab used to say: We honor the idols because they are our recommendatory before Allah. And they used to tell that Allah has appointed them as a source among Himself and us. Our desires are fulfilled by means of them. But they have no proof of these affairs. Allah Almighty has not revealed any such verse, from which it might be proved that He (God) has given this responsibility to any other for supplying the wants of His servants.

5.    Calumniating at random things in the name of Allah Almighty. Obviously, we know about Allah Almighty only that, which Holy Qur’an has described and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has made us to understand. Except that, which They have told and explained, saying by oneself about Allah Almighty will be meant that we are telling such a lie, about which we have not been informed, as the people of Makkah used to say: Allah has ordained to us to go round Ka’-bah nude. We should understand from this statement that Allah Almighty has commanded: Being naked is indecency and the indecency is forbidden. If it is admitted in the Fine Arts, even then, it will remain indecent and forbidden.

Adornment for mankind - Quran Chapter 7 – 32 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-943) -

Quran Chapter 7 – 32 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-943) -

Adornment for mankind

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 32.  Say: Who hath forbidden the adornment of Allah which He hath brought forth for His bondmen, and the good things of food? Say: These things are for believers in the life of this world and shall be exclusively theirs on the Day of Resurrection. Thus do We detail Our Revelations for people who have knowledge.
 32.  Qul  man  harrama  ziina-tAllaahil-latii  ‘akhraja  li-‘ibaadiHii  wat-tayyi-baati  minarrizq.  Qul  hiya  lilla-ziina  ‘aamanuuu  fil-hayaatid-dunyaa  khaalisa-tany-Yawmal-Qiyaamah.  Kazaalika  Nufassilul-‘Aayaati  li-qawminy-ya’-lamuun.

Commentary

It has been being described since previous verse and the verses prior to it that Allah Almighty has created the raiment for the human beings in the world, which is an ornament for them. Similarly, He created the things for food and drinking, so that they may reap advantage from them.

The mankind should use these things to fulfill their requirement. Complete detail regarding their being lawful or forbidden exists in the Revelations of Holy Qur-‘an. The mankind has no right to restrain himself in the matters of wearing clothes, eating and drinking, and considering that leaving them is worship. The same matters have been explained in some other way.

Allah Almighty asked from those people, who used to go round Ka’-bah with nude bodies: Who told you that wearing adornment at the time of going round is forbidden? Allah Almighty has made the cloth ornament for the human beings, so that they should keep their body-parts of shame hidden.

In like manner, entire pure and clean eatable things are lawful every time for food. God Almighty questions: Who did say! Fast from want during the days of Pilgrimage and consider it the condition for the worship? The reality, which you should understand, is that, these things have been created by Allah Almighty and He has explained; how to use them. You should use them according to the way prescribed.

God Almighty has described clearly about those things which have been forbidden by Him. You should leave them. Moreover, whenever He has commanded to give up the use of even good things, for instance; during fasting, then it is incumbent that you should leave them also.

After that, Allah Almighty ordained His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that He should cause to know the people also: These things i.e. raiment and food etc. have been created in the world for them only, who use these things in accordance with the Command of Allah Almighty, by admitting that these are His Bounties.

Using them thereby, these things will be given to the Believers on the Day of Resurrection after making them cleaned and purified from disputes and errors, because during their stay in this world, they are subjected with some at least difficulty, trouble, pain, illness and quarrel etc. but in the Hereafter, they will be blessed after being empty from these entire misfortunes and they will be able to use them with full independence.

Those people who do not believe in Allah Almighty, they will be given these things in the world along with great dispute, whereas, they would have no part of these things on the Judgment Day because it is a condition to get these good things on that Day, that the mankind should consider them a grant in the world from Allah Almighty and use them being thankful to Him.

Eating and drinking more than requirement - Quran Chapter 7 – 31 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-942) -

Quran Chapter 7 – 31 (Pt-8, Stg-2) (L-942) -

Eating and drinking more than requirement

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

 31.  O Children of Adam! Look to your adornment at every place of worship, and eat and drink, and be not prodigal. Lo! He loveth not the prodigals.
 31.  Yaa-Baniii-  ‘Aadama  khuzuu  ziinatakum  ‘inda  kulli  masjidinw-wa  kuluu  wash-rabuu  wa  laa  tusrifuu.  ‘InnaHuu  laa  yuhibbul-musrifiin.

Commentary
Khuzuu – this word is from ‘akhzun, which means taking, adjusting, looking to. Here it aims “to wear, to put on”.

Ziinatun – (decoration), purpose to use this word here is “that minimum quantity of the cloth, with which, at least, the privities of the human being are covered. For the men, so much cloth is incumbent to be worn that his privities only are covered.

Masjidun – it has been derived from sajdun. Sajdah is from the same also. It means “falling prostrate on the earth”. Here it aims “to offer prayer and to go round the Ka’-bah (the Square Building at Makkah)”.

Laa  tusrifuu – (be not prodigal), this word has been derived from ‘asraaf, which means “to cross the limit, abuse of wealth, prodigality, spending for useless and un-beneficial matters”.

In the verses of this Section, the human beings have been prevented from those absurd and foul customs and traditions, which had been increased by the Arabian people at their own along with the correct ways of worship. Going round the Holy Shrine at Makkah (Ka’-bah) had been perceived biggest worship always in the Arab and they used to consider the reverence of “the House of God” (Ka’-bah) necessary.

Some people used to think, “We commit many unknown sins in our clothes”, so they used to undress their raiment and put them at any separate place at the time of going round the Ka’-bah. If the people of Quraish gave them more clothes to wear, they used to wear them, but in case of unavailable, they, even their women too, used to go round the Ka’-bah with naked bodies. And they all used to consider it a kind of virtue.

In the same way during the period of Pilgrimage, they used to leave eating nice things; for example; meat, fats and ghee etc. Moreover, fasting from want or eating less food was considered needful. Guidance has been given in this verse about those entire matters.

The Children of Adam are being commanded that they should wear clothes at the time of worship and going round the Ka’-bah. Being nude is against the humanity and there is no virtue in it. The clothes are adornment for them. At the time of worship, these are more compulsory, because everyone should come duly dressed before their Lord (in the raiment, which He has bestowed to them).

Similarly, giving up eating and drinking is not necessary during the days of Hajj. Eat and drink good things, which Allah Almighty has given to you. However you should be careful and be not prodigal i.e. do neither eat and drink absurd things, nor misuse the necessary things. Allah Almighty does not like such people, who destroy their wealth and property for absurd and useless things.

The scholars have drawn the attention toward this issue that for the man; it is incumbent to cover his body with effect from the loins up to the knees, whereas the woman should cover her entire body. Similarly, spending the necessary things lavishly for pomp and show, boasting or displaying before the people is a stupidity. The mankind should be moderate.

Commentary
Qist – (Justice, equity), that middle way, in which, there is no fear of going astray, a Straight Path without crookedness.

Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is being commanded that He should say to the people: My Lord enjoins to go straight forward on the path of justice and human nature.

Allah Almighty has guided the Muslims that when they worship, they should set their faces upright, toward Him at every place of worship and call upon Him, being loyal to Him only. They should never obey the false customs, traditions and nor be deceived by the sayings of any wrongdoer, because Allah Almighty will bring entire humankind into being again after death and everyone will come only in Allah’s grip.

Fore-fathers and those protecting friends, who mislead, will not be of use in the Hereafter. Only those people will be successful in the Court of Allah Almighty, who worship Him purifying their inner and outer (both) with the intention of only His pure obedience and don’t care for any other against His Command.

God Almighty has explained the Way of Guidance very clearly through His Scriptures revealed upon His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them). Then some people desire to go Straight Way by perceiving It. Allah Almighty leads them toward the Right Path. Whereas, there are some such people, the straying has settled in whose hearts.

They have chosen the devils for protecting friends giving up the Path which leads unto Allah Almighty. The devils have put them on the path of error and infused them that: the correct path is the same which they have adopted. How can those people give up errors, who have taken up “the wrong” with their mind “the right”? These are the people, error has just hold and subdued over whom.

Actually it signifies that the people who accept their error and mistake immediately, whenever anyone cautions them about it, and ask Allah Almighty for forgiveness like Adam (peace be upon Him) (Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If Thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost) – they are saved from the straying.
