Law of Allah

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

38.  Tell those who disbelieve that if they cease (from persecution of believers) that which is past will be forgiven them; but if they return (thereto) then the example of the men of old hath already gone (before them, for a warning).

39.  And fight them until persecution is no more, and religion is all for Allah. But if they cease, then lo! Allah is Seer of what they do.

40.  And if they turn away, then know that Allah is your Befriender. A Transcendent Patron, and a Transcendent Helper!
38.  Qul-lillaziina  kafaruuu  ‘iny-yan-tahuu  yugfar lahum-maa  qad  salaf.  Wa  ‘iny-ya-‘uu-duu  faqad  mazat  Sunnatul-‘awwa-liin.

39.  Wa  qaati-luu-hum  hattaa  laa  takuuna  fit-natunw-wa  yakuunad-Diinu  kulluhuu  LIllaah.  Fa-‘inin-tahaw  fa-‘innAllaaha  bimaa  ya’-maluuna  Basiir.

40.  Wa  ‘in-  ta-wal-law  fa’-lamuuu  ‘annAllaaha  Mawlaakum.  Ni’-mal-  Mawlaa  wa  Ni’-man-Nasiir.

Commentary

Fit-natun – (persecution), meaning of this word has been explained in previous lessons. Here it aims “the riot and the disorder”.

Diinun and Hukmun – there are many meanings of the word Diinun, which have been described previously. This word has come in the first Chapter (Suratul-Faatihah) and after that; at many places. Its meanings have been taken at every place according to the occasion. Here it means “The way of conduct and behavior” which is established by the influence of great people of the nation. The aim of using this word here is that the method of conduct of the human being should be as it has been prescribed by God Almighty and He has guided instead of obeying the command of any other contrary to His obedience.

It is commanded that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) should say to those who disbelieve that if they will abstain from wicked deeds and cease from persecution of Muslims, then their past entire evil deeds and sins will be forgiven. But if they returned (carried on persecuting the believers) then they should bear in mind that they will be punished with the same; which they have tasted in the past.

The Believers are being commanded that they should be ready in all respect to fight against them until they are inclined for mischief, disorder and riot, and till the time; their manners do not become in accord with the correct way entirely for which Allah Almighty has instructed strictly Himself.

If they accept, you should not say to them about anything and the matter should be left for the final decision of God Almighty. But if they deny and continue persecuting; then oppose them face to face and fight them. And you should remember that Allah Almighty is your Best Supporting Friend, and except Him; there can be no other transcendent patron and transcendent helper of yours.

Separating the Good from the Bad

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

37.  That Allah may separate the wicked from the good, and the wicked will He place piece upon piece, and heap them all together, and consign them unto Hell. Such verily are the losers.
37.  Li-yamii-zAllaahul-khabiisa  minat-tayyibi  wa  yaj-‘alal-khabiisa  ba’-zahuu  ‘alaa  ba’-zin-  fayar-kumahuu  jamii-‘an-  fa-yaj-‘alahuu  fii  Jahannam.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  humul-khaa-siruun.

Commentary

Li-yamiiza – {(He) may separate}, origin of this word is mayzun. Mayzun means “to separate from one another”. From the same origin; the words “tamiiz and mumtaaz etc. have been derived”.

Yar-kuma – (heaping something), it is an origin from the word rakmun. Rakmun means “bringing the things together which have been scattered hither and thither”.

It was commanded earlier that the infidels will continue to try that the people should not go the Way of God Almighty. For this purpose, they will spend their wealth and life, even everything; but they will never succeed.

In this verse; it has been explained that there are all kinds of people living in the world i.e. good and wicked; and they try their best to do at their own. Allah Almighty sends His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) for their guidance. They cause to know their nations and people carefully about those works which are useful and good; and which are useless and bad, that is to say; these matters are lawful and legal, whereas those are unlawful and illegal.

Those people who have been entangled in evil habits, do not want to change themselves and desire to remove good people and their good habits. But whenever any occasion comes, good people and evil livers oppose face to face and fight against each other, then God Almighty helps those who are good and causes to defeat the wicked people. They are conquered but good people prosper. Difference between good and bad is manifested. Therefore, it was happened with the people of Makkah. Islam began to spread into them. Disbelievers and infidels tried to press It. Then Allah Almighty commanded the Muslims to leave that sacred place (Makkah) and arranged a battle openly between both parties (the Battle of Badr was fought among the Muslims and the idolaters of Makkah). The aim from these entire circumstances has been described in this verse.

It is commanded that Allah Almighty desired that the good, pious and pure people should be separated from the wicked, malevolent and impure. And when they are separated then the wicked and evil doers should be placed upon one another all together like a bundle of fire-wood and consign all of them unto the Fire of the Hell instantly, so that they may understand that by opposing the good people; they earned loss entirely. They suffered disgrace and infamy in the world, and in addition, on the Day of Judgment, they will be thrown in to the Hell. What would be more damage and loss than it?

Spending wealth at wrong places

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

35.  And their worship at the (holy) House is naught but whistling and hand-clapping. Therefore (it is said unto them): Taste of the doom because ye disbelieved.

36.  Lo! those who disbelieve spend their wealth in order that they may debar (men) from the way of Allah. So they will spend it, then it will become an anguish for them, then they will be conquered. And those who disbelieve will be gathered unto Hell-
35.  Wa  maa  kaana  salaatuhum  ‘indal-Bayti  ‘illaa  mukaaa-‘anw-wa  tas-diyah.  Fazuuqul-‘azaaba  bimaa  kuntum  takfuruun.

36.  ‘Innal-laziina  kafaruu  yunfi-quuna  ‘amwaa-lahum  li-yasudduu  ‘an-  Sabii-LIllaah.  Fasa-yunfi-quunahaa  summa  takuunu  ‘alay-him  hasratan  summa  yug-labuun.  Wallaziina  kafaruuu  ‘ilaa  Jahannama  yuhsharuuna.

Commentary

Mukaaa-‘an – (whistling), this word is a source, which means “to whistle by mouth”.

Tas-diyatan – (hand-clapping), it has been derived from the word sadaa, original meaning of which is “echo, resounding, hollow sound, roar and a clasp”. Here it aims “to create sound or making noise by striking both palms of the hands with each other.

It was described in the previous verses that torment has been hovering on their heads due to their evil deeds. But they have been saved still due to the only reason that the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) has been living between them and the sound of asking forgiveness and begging pardon of Allah Almighty by Muslims have been clasping.

Those people do neither know “how to worship”, nor are they aware of their Worshiped. They have named the acts of whistling and hand-clapping by gathering at any particular place “Divine worship”. They do not understand this matter that “the worship” is to please “The Worshiped” not to please themselves. Due to this infidelity and irreligion; they would have to taste the severe anguish of Allaah Almighty.

In the next verse; one more error of the disbelievers has been manifested. It is commanded that wealth, property and war equipment are such things which help in the battle for victory. But those people spend their wealth to prevent others from the Way of God Almighty. At last; they will gain nothing but remain woe-be-gone.

Your wealth will do nothing for you. You will be defeated certainly. And if; even then; you would neither understand and nor embrace Islam; then you all will be thrown in to the Fire of the Hell.

33.  But Allah would not punish them while thou wast with them, nor will He punish them while they seek forgiveness.

34.  What (plea) have they that Allah should not punish them, when they debar (His servants) from the Inviolable Place of Worship, though they are not its fitting guardians. Its fitting guardians are those only who keep their duty to Allah. But most of them know not.
33.  Wa  maa  kaanAllaahu  liyu-‘azziba-hum  wa  ‘anta  fiihim.  Wa  maa  kaanAllaahu  mu-‘azzibahum  wa hum  yastagfiruun.

Commentary

It is commanded that the punishment has been stopped due to two reasons; otherwise they have been entitled of God’s torment since very earlier. First reason is that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) was dwelling among them; and God Almighty did not send down torment on them due to His presence.

God Almighty caused to come out His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) at first from them, then sent down punishment on them. Second reason is that the voice of penitence and asking forgiveness is high among them, some people exist between them who repent of their sins and beg pardon of God Almighty; because Muslims are living with them, and they continue begging for kindness and forgiveness from Allah Almighty, and He does not send punishment on those who ask for forgiveness.

Then, it is commanded that they have been committing such wicked deeds that coming of the torment is incumbent. Behold! They have possessed the Inviolable Place of Worship (Masjidil-Haraam) unlawfully. Bigger than it; there is no other badness for the society that a man snatched the right of another, and he did not care for other’s trouble and pain, continued trying to establish only his own power of influence and greatness. The Inviolable Place of Worship is not for the people like him. That is a sacred place of God’s worship. Only those people should have control over and possession upon It who believe in Allah Almighty and pass their life in the world carefully and have fear of His punishment in their hearts. The worship is for pleasing the Worshipped (God) only. Any common man cannot determine its method. Only the Worshipped can guide that how will He be pleased, and from which matters; will He be angry. It is clear from this discussion that the Worshipped must be Wise, Seer and Who may speak.

Quran Chapter 8 – 31 & 32 (Pt-9, Stg-2) (L-1103) - درس قرآن

Perfect Stubbornness

Chapter ‘Anfaal (Spoils of War) – Surah – 8)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

31.  And when Our Revelations are recited unto them they say: We have heard; if we wish we can speak the like of this. Lo! this is naught but fables of the men of old.

32.  And when they said: O Allah! If this be indeed the Truth from Thee, then rain down stones on us or bring on us some painful doom!
31.  Wa  ‘izaa  tutlaa  ‘alayhim  ‘AayaatuNaa  qaaluu  qad  sami’-naa  law  nashaaa-‘u  la-qulnaa  misla  haazaaa,  ‘in  haazaaa  ‘illaaa  ‘asaa-tiirul-‘awwaliin.

Commentary

‘Asaa-tiiru – (fables), this word is plural of ‘astuuratun, which has been derived from satar and means “any written thing, a story, a tale”.

One more unfairness and perverseness of the infidels has been described in this verse. God Almighty commanded to His Messenger: You {O Muhammad (grace, glory, blessing and peace be upon Him)} saw! When Our Revelations are caused to hear the disbelievers by recitation, they say carelessly! We have already heard these fables. What has been placed into Them? These are only self invented tales of the ancient people. We can write like these stories also if we wish to write.

Its reply has been given in the Surahs (Chapters) revealed in Makkah and Madinah; again and again, that; they can write never any book like This (Holy Qur’an). If they are able to write, then they should make, write and show only ten Chapters like These. Then they were invited: If you are indeed able to do something, make and bring only one Surah like These Chapters. But they could not bring and practically they were answered in the Battle of Badr. Then their eyes were opened. They knew that the Holy Qur’an is not a collection of fables and tales, but a Spring of such Power, before Whom, none can raise his head.

Then they began to say: O God! If this religion is True and from You, then rain down stones from the sky on us or bring on us any painful doom. From this supplication of the disbelievers, their utmost stubbornness is obvious. Moreover, it seems from such severe supplication that they wanted to impress the Muslims also.
