Circumstances of the people around - Quran Chapter 9 – 101 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1241) -

Quran Chapter 9 – 101 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1241) -

Circumstances of the people around

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

101.  And among those around you of the wandering Arabs there are hypocrites, and among the townspeople of Al-Madinah (there are some who) persist in hypocrisy whom thou (O Muhammad) knowest not. We know them. Then We shall chastise them twice; then they will be relegated to a painful doom.
101.  Wa  mim-man  haw-lakum-minal-‘A’-raabi  Munaafiquun.  Wa  min  ‘ahlil-Madiinati  maraduu-  ‘alan-nifaaq.  Laa  ta’-lamuhum.  Nahnu  Na’-lamuhum.  SaNu-‘azzi-buhum-marra-tayni  summa  yuradduuna  ‘ilaa  ‘azaabin  ‘Aziim.

Commentary

Maraduu – (they persist), this word has been made from marada. From the same origin, one more word tamarrad has been derived, which is a famous word. Marada means “rebellion, refractoriness”, result of which is “to persist in any matter unreasonably”. In the word tamarrad; these meanings are very clear i.e. disobeying the command haughtily.

Habits and nature of the wandering Arabs (villagers) were disclosed in the previous verses, that they fear from those restrictions; which are incurred by Islam; particularly they shirk from expending their money. Then, it was described that some wandering Arabs are those who are civilized and they believe in Allah Almighty and expend for the Cause of God Almighty with generosity and consider it a means of God’s pleasure and acquiring blessings of His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). Certainly, sacrifices, alms and charities of those Believers will bring them close to Allah Almighty.

In this verse, circumstances of the population of Madinah and its surroundings have been described. It is commanded that some people among the wandering Arabs who are around you, are hypocrites, but apparently they show themselves as Muslims. And there are many people in Madinah also; who persist in hypocrisy.

Observing their apparent style and behavior, it is difficult to say that they are only ostensive Muslims, but Allah Almighty knows their all conditions. They will be punished twice:

1.   They will be disgraced and entangled in worldly calamities. Then they will be suffering from torture in their graves.

2.   After all, they will be thrown into the biggest Torture Cell – the Fire of the Hell; on the Day of Resurrection.

It signifies that becoming apparent Muslim for the purpose of any worldly desire; cannot be saved lastly from the punishment. For obtaining deliverance, Belief in the heart is very necessary.

Commentary

Those people who did not value the commandments of God’s Last Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), they lost their religion as well as relinquished from their world too within a few days. But some people ran straightway as soon as they heard the voice of God’s obedient Servant and His Last Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) saying Labbayk, and they gripped up their loins for His (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) help. After that, other people followed them also, and they began to enter in the circle of Islam one by one. They got success in the world and in the Hereafter too; they deserved favors and honors of God Almighty.

After describing the circumstances of the opposite people, in this verse; conditions of those people have been explained who accepted the invitation of Islam. There were some classes into them also. Some of them were those who embraced Islam as soon as they heard, but some people were those who entered in Islam slowly and gradually.

It is commanded: Those first people; who led for entering in Islam; as soon as they heard the Voice of the Caller (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), some of which people were Emigrants of Makkah and some Inhabitants of Madinah, plus those, who entered in Islam one by one sincerely and honestly after them, Allah Almighty is well pleased with all of them and they are well pleased with Allah Almighty. That is to say; Allah Almighty liked their purity and honesty, and leaving everything they also got support of Allah Almighty. They got ready to suffer from difficulties in His obedience. For all of them; God Almighty has made the flourishing and green Gardens ready; underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. In fact it is the biggest success.

Some wandering Arabs are good also - Quran Chapter 9 – 99 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1239) -

Quran Chapter 9 – 99 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1239) -

Some wandering Arabs are good also

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

99.  And among the wandering Arabs are those who believe in Allah and the Last Day and take that which they expend to be a means of bringing them near to Allah and the Blessings of the Messenger.  Lo! Verily it is means of nearness for them. Allah will bring them into His Mercy. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
99.  Wa  minal-‘A’-raabi  many-yu’-minu  Billaahi  wal-Yawmil-‘Aakhiri  wa  yattakhizu  maa  yunfiqu  quru-baatin  ‘indAllaahi  wa  Salawaatir-Rasuul.  ‘Alaaa  ‘innahaa  qurbatul-lahum.  Sayud-khilu-humUllaahu  fii RahmatiH.  ‘InnAllaaha  Gafuurur-Rahiim.

Commentary

Quru-baatin – (nearness), this word is plural of qurbatun, which means “nearness”. Here it aims “a means of nearness”.

Salawaatun – (the Blessings), it is plural of the word Salaatun. Prayers of Sage and Pious people for others are called Salawaat, praying, Du’aa).

It was described earlier that some wandering Arabs are unfortunate from the side of their good manners; being deprived of civilized surroundings, education and training. If they have to expend anything for the Cause of Allah Almighty, they make faces and curse the Muslims that: they should be ruined, they give us trouble.

Its reason is that they are ignorant from their Creator, Allah Almighty; and consider that only they are everything. If they believe in Allah Almighty, accounts of the Day of Resurrection, and reward or punishment against good or evil deeds, then it is impossible that they may talk so stupidly.

Contrary to them, some villagers/wandering Arabs are good also. They are not influenced from bad environment of the village due to their good nature. They are sure that Allah Almighty is Rightful and True, and certainly the Day of Resurrection will come, and we shall be rewarded or punished on that Day according to our deeds. In this verse, those people have been mentioned.

It is commanded: Among the wandering Arabs, there are some good people too. Their natural purity does not let them deprived of good works and fair thoughts. They believe in Allah Almighty (God) and the Last Day (the Day of Resurrection), and whatever they expend, consider it a means of nearness to Allah Almighty and His Pleasure. And they take it a source of Blessings from the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam).

Listen to it that their hope shall be fulfilled. And Allah Almighty will bestow them His nearness. Blessings of God’s Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) will remove their difficulties and relieve them from all kinds of distress. God Almighty will forgive their sins and errors, and bring them into His Mercy, because He is Forging and Merciful.

Impact of the rural environment - Quran Chapter 9 – 98 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1238) -

Quran Chapter 9 – 98 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1238) -

Impact of the rural environment

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

98.  And among the wandering Arabs are those who take that which they expend (for the Cause of Allah) as a loss, and await (evil) turns of fortune for you (that they may be rid of it). The evil turn of fortune will be theirs. And Allah is Hearer, Knower.
98.  Wa minal-‘A’-raabi  many-yatta-khizu  maa yunfiqu  magra-manw-wa  yata-rabbasu  biku-mud-dawaaa-‘ir.  ‘Alay-him  daaa-‘iratus-saw’.  Wallaahu  Samii-‘un  ‘Aliim.

Commentary

Magra-mun – (as a loss), origin of this word is garama, from which a word garaamatun has been derived, which is used in Fiqqah. Meanings of these both words are “fine, penalty, compensation”, that is to say; such money, which is required to be paid under compulsion or forcibly.

Common state of wandering Arabs (villagers) was described in the verse before this. Their education and training is different from those who live in townships, and their ways of living do not let them to be civilized and courteous. If someone desires to teach them, then due to non availability of suitable environment, he would have to be satisfied on teaching only main points. They disregard the legal limits.

They used to consider; expending for the Cause of God Almighty as a loss/penalty; during those days of Islam, about which it has been mentioned in this verse, because they did not give any importance to Allah Almighty and His prescribed laws. Therefore, they used to be displeased; when they had to expend their money.

They used to say: From where these Muslims have come; who receive financial support and charity from the people every time. If they do not exist, we can live a thoughtless life. They used to imprecate the Muslims and remain waiting: They (the Muslims) should suffer from any such disaster, by which; we feel free, and do whatever we wish; independently. And we get freedom from their restrictions.

It is commanded: some people from the wandering Arabs are those, who consider that paying the poor-due, charity and expending for public welfare works is as a loss, and they wish that if the Muslims are ruined, they will return from Islam.

But the Muslims will succeed with the help of Allah Almighty due to their sincere acts, and these people will be ruined due to their hypocrisy. Allah Almighty hears of His all servants and He is Aware of intentions of every living being. Their deeds deserve that they should suffer from big calamities.

State of the Wandering Arabs - Quran Chapter 9 – 97 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1237) -

Quran Chapter 9 – 97 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1237) -

State of the Wandering Arabs

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

97.  The wandering Arabs are more hard in disbelief and hypocrisy, and more likely to be ignorant of the limits which Allah hath revealed unto His Messenger. And Allah is Knower, Wise.
97.  ‘Al-‘a’raabu  ‘ashaddu  kufranw-wa  nifaaqanw-wa  ‘ajdaru  ‘allaa  ya’-lamuu  huduuda  maa  ‘anza-lAllaahu  ’alaa  RasuuliH.  Wallaahu ‘Aliimun  Hakiim.

Commentary

‘Ajdaru – (more likely), this word is from judurun. Judurun means “to be able to”. The person, who is more (in any attribute) than someone else in comparison, is called ‘ajdaru. In common use, it is said “he can do only this, unable to perform any other work”.

Inhabitants of any city; learn quickly the manners and the etiquettes because they live in such environment where means of education are spread. Contrary to this, the inhabitants of villages are of hard nature and unable to learn new things quickly. In the beginning, there was mention about the inhabitants of the city that three kinds of people are found there i.e. Infidels, Hypocrites and true Believers.

Though, capacity of their temperament wants to learn the good things quickly. On the contrary, the villagers are more uncivilized. Therefore, we can observe the difference between inhabitants of the city and the village every day. Even then; above three kinds of people exist into them. In this verse, common condition of the wandering Arabs (villagers) has been described.

It is commanded that usually inhabitants of the villages are more hard on their old habits. There are a few people into them who can understand the matters of higher level. While infidelity and hypocrisy has been in force into them; then now; they have held severely these habits and have become expert in both. Their natures have become so, that they are very slow in learning new principles and manners.

They are not capable of learning such formal Rules and Regulations which Allah Almighty has sent down by means of His last Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). But God Almighty is Aware of miseries of entire people’s natures and their capacities. And He treats every individual according to everyone’s capability and intelligence. Therefore, difficult works are not for them (villagers). Moreover, even such higher ranks will not be given to them which are for the wise and affable ones.

It is known from this verse that environments and surroundings take part to correct the temperament of the human being. By living with civilized people, a man gets utmost maturity. We learnt from it that correction of environment is most important item for education and training.

Allah is displeased with the disobedient - Quran Chapter 9 – 96 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1236) -

Quran Chapter 9 – 96 (Pt-11, Stg-2) (L-1236) -

Allah is displeased with the disobedient

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

96.  They swear unto you, that ye may be pleased with them; but if you are pleased with them, yet surely Allah is not pleased with transgressing folk.
96.  Yahlifuuna  lakum  litar-zaw  ‘anhum.  Fa-‘in-  tarzaw  ‘anhum  fa-  ‘innAllaaha  laa yarzaa  ‘anil-qawmil-faasiquun.

Commentary

It is commanded that all oaths and flattering talks of disobedient people are only for the purpose that anyhow they succeed in pleasing you, but these ignorant people do not know that to please any mankind is useful only to acquire facilities for this temporary worldly life. On the Day of Resurrection, they will have business with Allah Almighty and all works of the world will remain here (in this world).

If they have some sense then they should please God Almighty, The Creator. He has explained the Way of pleasing Him very clearly. And because it is most important for the human being that he should please Allah Almighty, so He has made special arrangement for it. From time to time, He sent His Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon Them) for Guidance, bestowed them His Books and commanded them: Cause to hear the people by reciting My Scripture and warn them that they should obey the Instructions mentioned into the Word, so that Allah Almighty is pleased with them and they may obtain perpetual ease and comfort in the Day of Resurrection, which cannot be gotten without pleasing the Lord.

At the end of all Prophets and Messengers (peace be upon them), Allah Almighty sent His last Messenger, Muhammad (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam), giving him His Word “Holy Qur-‘aan”, that; if you wish to please God Almighty, you should listen to Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam). He explains by demonstrating “how to act upon it”, so that you may please your Creator.

This verse indicates that we have to deal with transgressors in this worldly life. We should treat them with forgiveness and overlooking, so that they may not make the atmosphere non-livable by spreading their stench and we should continue to teach them that “Thinking only about this world is not befitting for us”. Moreover, we should think also about our end on the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, it is suitable to arrange for being saved from the disobedience of God Almighty. Messenger of Allah Almighty (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) desired to spread the same way of forgiveness, overlooking and friendly intercourse according to commands of Holy Qur’an and His natural elegance, but the transgressor did not admit it and compelled the Muslims to fight.

Islam is desirous only to teach that the life of this world is not the only life, but there is another life. Therefore, we should think for decorating the both, by forgetting not the life in the Hereafter being entangled in this world.
