Friendship with Infidels - Quran Chapter 3- 28 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-379) -

Quran Chapter 3- 28 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-379) -

Friendship with Infidels

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

28.  Let not the believers take disbelievers for their friends in preference to believers. Whoso doeth that hath no connection with Allah unless (it be) that ye but guard yourselves against them, taking (as it were) security. And Allah biddeth you beware (only) of Himself. And unto Allah is the journeying.
28.  Laa yattakhizil-Mu’-mi-nuunal-Kaafiriina  ‘awliyaaa-‘a  min-  duunil-  Mu’-miniin.  Wa  many-yaf-‘al  zaalika  fa-laysa  minallaahi  fii shay-‘in  ‘illaaa  ‘an-tattaquu  minhum  tuqaah. Wa  yuhazziru-kumullaahu  Nafsah.  Wa  ‘ilallaahil-masiir.

Commentary

It was described in the previous lesson that Allah Almighty is Able to give honor and sovereignty to whom He desires and Can snatch these things from whom He wills. Each kind of government and empire, prestige, honor and possession are in His control. Therefore, it does not suit the Muslims, who really believe in Him, if they increase friendship voluntarily or without knowledge with the disbelievers, enemies of Allah Almighty, and Infidels, leaving their Muslim brothers or considering them not enough. The enemies of Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) can never be their friends. One, who opposes it, should think about himself that he has no concern with the love of Allah Almighty. Entire hopes of a Muslim should be related only to Allah Almighty.

Three forms of good behavior are possible into the mankind:

1.   Friendship.

2.   Apparent politeness.

3.   Kindness and doing good.

Religious Scholars have explained that first form, that is to say; real friendship with the Infidels is unlawful in all conditions. Third form (Kindness and doing good) is legal only with those Infidels who would never be ready to fight against the Muslims. Second form (Apparent politeness) is legal only under three conditions:

·       For self protection

·       Trying that he should embrace Islam

·       In the form that you are a host, it means that when any Infidel comes to you as a guest.

Besides these, three forms, friendship is not allowed anyway to get personal advantage or wealth, but when there is danger that he will put obstacles in the way of religion; then also, no friendship is allowed.

Allah Almighty frightens the Muslims from His torment who keep friendship with the Infidels so that they would bear in mind that at last every person will have to go back towards Him. He will reward or punish in accord with everyone’s deeds and it will not be possible to be saved from His grasp.

Quran Chapter 3- 27 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-378) -

The Divine Power

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

27.  Thou causest  the night to pass into the day, and Thou causest the day to pass into the night. And Thou bringest forth the living from the dead, and Thou bringest forth the dead from the living, and Thou givest sustenance to whom Thou choosest, without stint.
27.  Tuulijul-layla  fin-nahaari  wa  tuulijun-nahaara  fil-layl.  Wa  tukhrijul-hayya  minal-mayyiti  wa  tukhrijul-mayyita  minal-hayyi  wa  tarzuqu  man-  tashaaa-‘u  bi-gayri  hisaab.

Commentary

This verse is also common with the previous in meanings and comprehension. Allah Almighty described about His Power and discretion in the previous verse that He is able to do all things. He gives honor, glory and government to whom He wills, and lets fall in disgrace and baseness to whom He wishes. He has repeated in the present verse too the reality that each type of change and possession in the world depends upon His pleasure. He causes the night to pass into the day, and the day to pass into the night and He changes the weathers i.e. winter, spring, summer and autumn.

Sometime He decreases the night, increases the day and then increases night, and decreases the day. For example, the day becomes of fourteen hours and the night of ten hours (in summer), and after some period the day becomes of ten hours and the night of fourteen hours (in winter). These all changes are in His Power. The moon, the sun and the stars cannot move a little without His consent and plan.

Besides increasing and decreasing of the days and the nights, He brings forth the living from the dead, and the dead from the living. First example is likewise to bear the bird from an egg and living child from the seminal fluid of male and female, and second example is likewise egg from the animal and the seminal liquid from men and women. He produces a learned person from the illiterate and a complete person from the unsound.

The children of Israel used to consider that the nobleness and superiority, which they had, would remain forever. They should know that Allah Almighty is Able to give honor and sovereignty to whom He wishes and Can snatch these things from whom He wills. If He desires to grow any perfect person among the ignorant, He is Able to do so, as He produced the Last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) among the ignorant of Arab. The treasures of provision are also under His control. He bestows countless and immoderate (wealth) to whom He wishes. The humankind cannot count His distinguishing, favors and honors.

Quran Chapter 3- 26 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-377) -

Owner of Sovereignty is Allah

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

26.  Say: O Allah! Owner of Sovereignty! Thou givest sovereignty unto whom Thou wilt, and Thou withdrawest sovereignty from whom Thou wilt. Thou exaltest whom Thou wilt, and Thou abasest whom Thou wilt. In Thy hand is the good. Lo! Thou art Able to do all things.
26.  Qulillaa-humma  Maalikal-Mulki    tu’-til-Mulka  man-tashaaa-‘u  wa  tanzi-‘ul-Mulka  miman-tashaaa’.  Wa  tu-‘izzu  man-  tashaaa-‘u  wa  tuzillu  man-tashaaa’.  Bi-yadi-kal-Khayer.  ‘Innaka  ‘alaa  kulli  shay-‘in-Qadiir.

Commentary

Maalikal-Mulki – (Owner of Sovereignty), Allah Almighty has described about this virtue of His Ownership particularly for the purpose so that the human being should perceive about His Powers and Strength. The humankind should not forget the Real Owner (Allah Almighty) in the intoxication of his temporary and transitory worldly power, influence and dignity. So that four days’ moving shadow may not make him careless from the commands of Supreme Commander (Allah Almighty).

This verse of Holy Qur’an has a specific Peculiarity. That is, “there is description about Perfect Power of Allah Almighty and utmost limit of inability and helplessness of the human being in the manner that nobody can deny”. It is the reason that our Muslim devotees use to tell their followers about this verse for repeating it as daily worship.

If there is need to mention this verse in connection with the Christians’ body of delegates from Najraan (Syria), then we shall relate it as, “O Christian Scholars! You are proud of the honor and sovereignty of the kings, understand it well that entire sovereign of the entire world and the Owner of the Dignity is Allah Almighty. Every thing is in His Hand. He gives to whom He wills and withdraws from whom He wishes. Allah Almighty has shown practical demonstration of this reality to the entire world, while He made owner of the treasures of Roman and Persian sovereignty to an inferior and poor group (of newly Muslims). Then what is the worldly kingdom and honor?

Allah Almighty transferred last place of spiritual sovereignty and honor i.e. Prophet-hood from the Children of Israel to the Children of Ishmael. The words of this verse are taught to the Muslims in the form of supplication. And it explained that the persons who were poor, they would become owners of the sovereignty due to their faith, and who were kings, they would fall in disgrace due to their bad acts. The good (of all kinds) is In the Hand of Allah Almighty. He is Able to do all things.

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

25.  How (will it be with them) when We have brought them all together to a Day of which there is no doubt, when every soul will be paid in full what it hath earned, and they will not be wronged.
25.  Fa-kayfa  ‘izaa  jama’-naahum  li-Yawmil-laa  rayba  fiih.  Wa  wuffi-yat  kullu  nafsim-maa  kasabat  wa  hum laa  yuzlamuun.

Commentary

With effect from the beginning of this Surah, the learned persons of the Scripture are being addressed. Particularly the Christians are being invited towards the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and His True Book (Holy Qur’aan) again and again. But their behavior remained always to falsify every true and pious person and opposed them. They reached such extent that they massacred the Prophets of Allah Almighty (peace be upon them).

On the other hand, the extent of their faith’s feebleness is that they consider themselves as much innocent that the Fire of Hell will not touch them. And if they are thrown even in to the Hell, they will remain there only for a few days. It is their personal doubt. This matter does not have any relation with the reality. How can a person be saved from punishment, who has committed any sin or evil?

Allah Almighty has drawn their attention towards the Day of Resurrection and Its horrible results in this verse. He Commands, “Why are you forgetting that particular Day, when the entire mankind will be gathered? How can be any doubt about the situation of that Day? Besides the Holy Qur’aan, this belief also comprises in the parts of all religions.

On the Doomsday, every person will get full retaliation of his/her deeds. It has been revealed in the Holy Qur’aan, “Famany-ya’-mal  misqaala  zar-ratin-  khayrany-yarah.  Wa many-ya’-mal  misqaala  zar-ratin-  sharrany-yarah”.  (And whoso doeth good an atom’s weight will see it then. And whoso doeth ill an atom’s weight will see it then). Nobody can escape from the results of deeds/actions.

Last sentence of the verse is “wa  hum laa  yuzlamuun” (and they will not be wronged). Each atom will be reckoned and result of most ordinary work will be in front. If the humankind remembered it, he would never think about the sin/evil.

Commentary

It has been described in these verses that when they are invited to come towards Holy Qur’aan, which has been revealed according to the mentioned good news in their Holy Scriptures and It has correct decision power of their contradictions and differences. Then some of their religious scholars turn away, whereas invitation towards Holy Qur’aan is actually the invitation towards Torah and Gospel.

These people turn their faces from the guidance and orders of their own Scripture and make changes in to them in accord with their wishes. Neither they care for the good news revealed in the Scriptures and nor believe in the predictions mentioned there.

Then it was described that the reason of their too much strong desire towards evils and sins is that they are entirely fearless from the punishment which will be given by Allah Almighty. They have invented at their own different types of precepts and doctrines. Out of them, one thought is that at first, they would never be punished, and if they were punished, that would be only for a few days. Christians had made another false doctrine crossing all others. That is to say: Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) has already been punished against all sinners and evil-doers. {Allah Almighty preserve us from this type of thinking, because He (Allah Almighty) is not unjust that the sinners are saved but the innocent punished}.

21.  Lo! those who disbelieve the Revelations of Allah, and slay the Prophets wrongfully, and slay those of mankind who enjoin equity; promise them a painful doom.

22.  ‘Ulaaa- ‘ikallaziina  habitat  ‘a’-maaluhum  fid-dunyaa  wal- ‘Aakhirati  wa  maa  lahum- min- naasiriin.

Commentary

Ya’-muruuna  bil-qisti – (who enjoin equity), that is to say they guide the people for morality, manners and courtesy, preach for justice in mutual matters and are their true companions.

The Christians of Najraan (Syria) and other Infidels are being informed in this verse that fighting against the Messengers (peace be upon them); other pious and Just loving persons, quarrelling with the religious advisers and slaughtering them with cruelty being non-believers in Allah Almighty, is very big tyranny. They will be punished very severely.

It has been known from a Saying of the Prophet of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) that the Children of Israel martyred 43 (forty three) Prophets (peace be upon them) and 170 (one hundred seventy) righteous persons in a day and likewise they were counted in the list of the guilty. Holy Qur’aan is presenting these entire happenings for the purpose that those who say themselves the obedient of Allah Almighty; should meditate that how much their ancestors were evil-doers. Misfortune will be for them in this world and in the Hereafter. Their entire deeds will be of no avail and they will also be punished severely on the Day of Resurrection, and they will find there neither any companion and nor helper.

There are many things for our admonition in these happenings. We should save ourselves completely from those sins and evils (crimes) which were committed by the past nations, so that the punishment in which they were arrested, that may not be sent upon us. It is necessary for us that we should not disobey the Commands of Allah Almighty, should not oppress the pious and righteous. Moreover, we should remain on the Straight Path, so that we may be successful in this world as well as on the Day of Resurrection.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

20.  And if they argue with thee, (O Muhammad), say: I have surrendered my purpose to Allah and (so have) those who follow me. And say unto those who have rejected the Scripture and those who read not: Have ye (too) surrendered? If they surrender, then truly they are rightly guided, and if they turn away, then it is thy duty only to convey the message (unto them). And Allah is Seer of (His) bondmen.
20.  Fa-‘in  haaajjuuka  faqul  ‘as-lamtu  wajhiya  Lillaahi  wa  manittaba-‘an.  Wa  qullillaziina  ‘uutul-Kitaaba  wal-‘ummiy-yiina  ‘a-‘aslamtum.  Fa-‘in  ‘as-lamuu  faqadih-tadaw.  Wa  ‘in-tawal-law  fa-‘innamaa  ‘alay-kal-balaag.  Wallaahu  Basiirum-  bil-‘ibaad.

Commentary

‘Al-‘ummiy-yiina – (those who can not read, illiterate persons), here it aims the Idolaters of Makkah, who did not know about the Heavenly Scriptures. Thus, except some counted persons, all inhabitants of this sacred city were illiterate and ignorant.

‘Al-balaag – (to convey the message), intent from this word is to comfort the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), that “if these people do not believe, then you should not be confused. Your duty is to convey the Message and invite only. It is not your responsibility to cause them to believe”.

The followers of the Scripture used to wrangle that “we are also Muslims”. They are being described in this verse that likewise hypothetical Islam is useless. Islam is that, which is held with the Last Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and his followers ((may Allah Almighty be pleased upon them). That is to say, the humankind should surrender himself to Islam as a whole. Look at Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him), the Refugees (Muhajirin) and the inhabitants of Madinah (Ansaar) (may Allah Almighty be pleased upon them). They sacrificed themselves, their wealth, children and wives, their entire desired and beloved things for the pleasure of Allah Almighty; confronting the polytheism, immorality, wickedness and tyranny. Their eyes wait every time for the command of Allah Almighty that no sooner they receive any order, than they obey it. Contrary to them, look at yourselves; while you are alone, you accept that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is on the right path. Nevertheless, you think, “if we believed in his Messenger-hood, the wealth and property of the world would be snatched”. Anyhow, after knowing the truth, if you will not believe, that is your will, we have already believed.

After that the Idolaters are being addressed, “Have you surrendered too or ready to surrender? If you surrender even now, then truly you are rightly guided, and if you turn away, then our duty is only to preach Islam, to teach you difference between good and bad, and to convey the Message of Allah Almighty unto you. Allah Almighty knows internal and external circumstances of all”.
