Solicitation for alliance

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

64.  Say:  O people of the Scripture!   Come to an agreement between us and you: that we shall worship none but Allah, and that we shall ascribe no partner Unto Him, and that none of us shall take others for lords beside Allah. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are they who have surrendered (unto Him).

Commentary

The Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace of Allah Almighty be upon him) commanded to the delegation of Najraan, “’Aslimuu” (Embrace Islam). They said, “’Aslamnaa” (we are Muslims). It is recognized from the dialogue that the Christians also used to claim that they were Muslims, “We are constant upon Islam”. Like this, whenever the people of Scripture were invited for believing the Unity of the Deity, they used to say, “We believe in God also”. In this verse, it has been signified to their claim, “O people of the Scripture! You and we are unanimous in the conception on original faith of Unity (Oneness of God). This faith can make all of us one league, provided that you and we should not change these claims. The only requirement is that as you claim with tongue that you believe in One God, the truth of your claim be proved also by IMPLEMENTING. Believe in His Oneness and ascribe no partner Unto Him really. Surrender yourselves unto Him, Worship none but Allah, and that none of you will attribute others as gods beside Allah. None should be made His son or daughter. Do not include your will in the things, which have been fixed by Him lawful and unlawful. Moreover, you should accept His Commands and make not alteration into them.

But, in spite of believing it, if they reject the Oneness of God, attribute someone partner of Allah Almighty and turn away, then O Muslims! Say to them: O the people of the Scripture! Bear witness that you are such people who are firm on Islam, who have surrendered unto Allah Almighty and who are His obedient.

This verse manifests basic policy of Islam that the Muslims are ready to cooperate with every group in the matters of goodness and good works. If there is any form of non-cooperation with any group, that is only form of sin, rebellion and insurrection. Islam invited also those people of the Scripture who used to oppose it in the beginning, for teaching and preaching about the mutual belief of the Oneness of God to come to an agreement among the both parties.

A real story - Quran Chapter 3- 62 & 63 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-398) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 62 & 63 (Pt-3, Stg-1) (L-398) - درس قرآن

A real story

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

62.  Lo! This verily is the true narrative. There is no God save Allah. And lo! Allah, He verily is the Mighty, the Wise.

63.  And if they turn away, then lo! Allah is Aware of (who are) the corrupters.
62.  ‘Inna  haazaa  lahuwal-qasa-sul-haqq.  Wa  maa  min  ‘ilaa-hin  ’illAllaah.  Wa  ‘innAllaaha  la-Huwal-‘Aziizul-Hakiim.

63. ‘Fa-‘in-ta-wal-law  fa-‘innAllaaha  ‘Aliimum- bil-mufsidiin.

Commentary

‘Al-qasa-sul-haqq – (the true narrative), the word qasas is single noun which means an event, incident, news, a story. Haqq means pure, true and hundred percent correct. ‘Al-qasa-sul-haqq aims – a correct story as well as the true narrative too. The last meanings are advisable presumption here.

Mufsidiina – (the corrupters) its singular is Mufsid, that is to say; the person, who produces confusion, scattering and depravity. He becomes cause of badness and quarrels in spite of peace and rectification.

Invitation of Mubaahilah (accusing each other) was given to the Christians of Najraan on the points, which were described in the Holy Qur’an about Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). That is the true mention and Allah Almighty is Pure from all kinds of plurality and the relationship of father (God) and son (Jesus) (I seek refuge in Allah). Neither He is father of anyone, nor any person can be His son, but He is One and Alone. He is the Creator of the entire creatures. None is Worshipped but He. The relationship among Allah Almighty and mankind is “The Worshipped and the slave (worshipper).

Allah verily is the Mighty and the Wise. He will fix up “the true” to the honest, sincere, faithful and genuine, and “the false” to the liar, untrue and the not genuine. He described full of wisdom; resolution of Mubaahilah to His graceful Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for his fidelity, reply of which could not be prepared by the Christians. And they returned duly reconciled. He, the Almighty and the Overcoming God will punish severely to the disbelievers and quarrelsome persons.

Allah Almighty explained that if neither those people listen to the arguments, nor agree for Mubaahilah, then consider it that they are Stubborn and persisting. They do neither intend to understand and nor accept the truth. They do not want to follow the Sayings of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Their main aim is to spread dissention and mischief, and to produce the facts in a false form. Then lo! Allah is Aware of those entire persons, who are the corrupters and He will fix up all of them.

We have learnt from this lesson that the facts should not be ignored, when those are proved. The commands of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) should be accepted wholeheartedly while they show the right path. Each person should consider these commands as true and act upon them.

Commentary

The Christians of Syria (Najraan), who came to argue and debate with the Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), presented their entire false beliefs. Allah Almighty replied them by means of Holy Qur’an and silenced them.

Even after hearing the clear proofs, those Christians of Najraan did not believe in it and remained firm on their false faith. Allah Almighty commanded to His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for establishing Mubaahilah (accusing each other) with them (both groups would have to get together with their families and pray with humble that whosoever from us is liar, invocation would be prayed for his curse and the wrath of God). At its first step, this situation of Mubaahilah will clarify that which the group has really believed in his inner truth and up to which extent. Hearing the invitation of Mubaahilah, the group from Syria (the Christians of Najraan) requested for respite so that they should answer after consultation. When they got together for consultation, then wise persons from them said, “You people have understood in your hearts that Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is really a Messenger of God Almighty. He has described clear and decisive words about Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), and you also know that Allah Almighty had promised to send His Messenger from the children of Ishmael, and it is possible that He (Muhammad) (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) may be that same Messenger. Setting up the Mubaahilah (accusing each other) against any Messenger, can result that none of them (whether those are younger or elder) could be saved from destruction and torment.

After consulting, Syrians (Najraani Christians) attended the court of last Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). They saw that the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was coming out with Hassan and Hussain (His daughter’s sons), Fatimah (his daughter) and Ali (his son in law) (may God be pleased with them). Looking upon these luminous faces, their superior Clergyman said, “I am looking such pure faces whose prayer can shake the mountains from their places. Do not ruin yourselves by fixing the Mubaahilah with them.” At last, they decided that they should not to compete. So they returned after reconciling. It has been mentioned in ‘Ahaadith (the Sayings) that the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) said, “If those people would have done Mubaahilah (accusing each other), then it would rain such fire upon them that Allah Almighty would subvert the Syria (Najraan).

Commentary

Allah Almighty described the entire realities about Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) to the Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and commanded, “if the Christians quarrel even then with You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) regarding Prophet Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), then you should not care for them. Denier of the sunlight is called blind like this; the denier of the realities is a wretched and an unfortunate”.

The people of Scripture used to quarrel with the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) in the matter that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) was not servant of Allah Almighty but was His son. They used to say, “if he (peace be upon him) is not son of God Almighty then you (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) should tell us, whose son He (peace be upon him) was”? Responding them, Allah Almighty said, “Prophet Adam (peace be upon Him) did have neither father nor mother. Therefore, if Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) had not father then what is there to be wonder? Not having by anyone father, it does not mean that he is son of God. Otherwise, like this, the grade of Prophet Adam (peace be upon Him) should be higher than Prophet Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) and he (peace be upon him) would have more right to be called as son of God”.

It is the reality that as God Almighty created Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) from the dust, He created Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) from the dust also. Likeness of both of them is the same (peace be upon them). Neither Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) was son of God nor Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). After that, Allah Almighty commanded to the last Prophet (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), “Whatever We described about “Messiah” (peace be upon him), that entire is quite correct. There is no space for doubt in it. You (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) should never be from the people who have doubts”.

Illustrating by example of Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) as Prophet Adam (peace be upon him), Allah Almighty has proved such clear evidence that no choice of argument remains now in this matter. The Father of entire human beings who (Adam; peace be upon Him) was born in heaven without mother and father, if he (peace be upon Him) is neither God and nor son of God, then one, who is born from the womb of a mother in this world, how can he (peace be upon him) be son of God?

Commentary

It was discussed in the previous verses that Allah Almighty would destroy the plots of the disbeliever Jews. He would save His Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) from their causing troubles with His most dignified and best management. He would disgrace and abase the Infidels, punish them severely in this world and in the Hereafter. In this verse, it has been mentioned about the wages and remuneration of the Believers and Pious persons.

We believe that when the children of Israel strengthened their impure schemes, then Allah Almighty picked the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) up alive to the heavens. Many Sayings of the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) give clues that when the world will fill with infidelity and depravity near the Hereafter, then Jesus (peace be upon him) will be sent down by Allah Almighty as a most faithful helper of Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Allah Almighty will show the world, “How much good relations have former Prophets (peace be upon them) with His beloved and last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him)”. Jesus (peace be upon him) will slay The Liar (Dajjaal) and kill his follower Jews; searching them hither and thither. No Jew will remain alive. Until that the trees and stones will tell, “Kill the Jew who is standing behind us”. Jesus (peace be upon him) will break the Crucifix. He (peace be upon him) will put the entire world on the path of Belief after reforming the false beliefs of the Christians. Then only God’s true religion Islam will remain at the end of all dissensions.

It is known from the previous lesson that Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) has been elevated alive to the heavens and the faith of the Jews is false that he (peace be upon him) was slain. There is no known reason to disbelieve in it, if it is perused with deep thought. If Jesus (peace be upon him) can be born without father, if he can fashion out of clay the likeness of a bird, and he breathes into it and it is a bird, by Allah’s leave and if he can heal the person who was born blind, and the leper, and if he can raise the dead by Allah’s leave, then how can it be far to pick his body up by Allah’s leave? As the Angels (peace be upon them) are present in the heavens, likewise Jesus (peace be upon him) can live there for thousands of the years.

It is not wisdom to sit in a state of ease and comfort; waiting for arrival of Jesus (peace be upon him). It is our (all Muslims’) duty that we should try our best to raise the Word of Allah Almighty and keep performing the duties every time rested upon us by Islam.

Commentary

When The king, whose ears were poisoned by the disbelievers (children of Israel) (as we have learnt in the previous lesson), sent the persons to arrest the Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), so that he might be punished and crucified as much severely that other people take it warning and give up following him (peace be upon him).

Then Allah Almighty satisfied the Prophet Messiah (peace be upon him) and said, “I shall ruin the plans and schemes of those people. They are thinking to kill you and destroy the purpose of My Guidance to the people from your birth. If they did so, I (Allah Almighty) will get back My this Blessing from them. I shall complete your life in this world and purpose of your (peace be upon him) birth in all respect”.

“It will be done so, that I shall take you up to Me safe and sound. They wish to crucify you (peace be upon him), We shall carry you to heaven. They desire to disgrace you and prevent the people to follow you. But We shall keep you out of their reach and pick you up quite pure and innocent from their indecent environment. Despite it that you are disgraced and the people are hindered from following you due to fear, We shall keep overcoming your followers and believers upon the disbelievers until the Day of Resurrection”.

“Then in the Hereafter, when the entire human beings will return to Me, I shall judge between them as to that wherein they used to differ. As for those who disbelieve I shall chastise them with a heavy chastisement in the Hereafter; and they will have no helpers. And the Believers will be given full remuneration of their good deeds”.

Undoubtedly, Allah Almighty does not like the unjust people.

Commentary

‘Al-Hawaa-riyyuuna – (it is plural of Hawaari which means companion, friend, disciple, helper etc.), the philosophers of the religion have different views about the ‘al-Hawaa-riyyuun. General opinion about it is that at first two persons out of the children of Israel believed in Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). They were washer-men. Due to washing the clothes, they were called Hawaarii. Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) described them, “Come and learn from me (peace be upon him), how to purify the hearts”. They said, “We are standing in the service”. Therefore, they were entitled Hawaarii.

When the children of Israel disbelieved opposing the invitation and preaching of Prophet Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) and he (peace be upon him) knew that those people would never accept his religion. But they were thinking to give him pain and trouble, then he announced, “Who will be my helpers in the cause of Allah”? Those ‘al-Hawaa-riyyuun (companions) answered to the prophet Jesus (peace be upon him), “We will be your helpers in the religion of Allah. We believe in Allah, and bear O Jesus our witness that we have surrendered for the cause of Allah. We shall follow the Messenger (peace be upon him) of God Almighty. Our Lord! We believe in that which You have revealed and we follow him whom You have sent, so enroll us among those who witness to the truth.

Makarun – (scheme, plan, gait), the children of Israel began different kinds of conspiracies and secret schemes against Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him). Even that they poisoned the ears of then existing king, that this person (Jesus) was a mutineer of the government and wanted to change the Torah (Scripture) (Allah forbid). The King ordered to arrest Jesus Christ (peace be upon him). At the other hand Allah Almighty schemed Himself, which will be discussed in the next lesson. Without any doubt, Allah Almighty is the Best of schemers. None can break it.
