Commentary

Before Islam, the inhabitants of Arab were ignorant, impolite and incautious in manners. They had been fallen into idol worship, polytheism, malice and obstinacy. A brother was enemy of the other. The wars and bloodsheds were at increase. Events of theft and highway robbery were common. In short, those people used to pass their lives like beasts of prey, by falling down from the grade of humanity.

In such circumstances, Mercy of Allah Almighty was excited. His Light was disclosed. He sent His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) for the guidance of the humankind, who purified the human beings from the entire evils, guided them towards goodness and happiness, and made them brothers of one another.

Above mentioned verse signifies towards such Bounty and favor of Allah Almighty. He is reminding the Muslims His Beneficence. He made them intimate friends and sympathizers of one another by discharging hundreds of the years old malice and enmities from the hearts of the people with His Management. He collected them upon one religion due to which such trust established that their enemies were overawed by feeling their unity. This society and unity are too much big Graciousness of Allah Almighty, which could not be gotten by the Muslims by spending their entire treasures.

Allah Almighty exemplified it to manifest the life before Islam that the people were standing upon the brink of an abyss of fire (Hell) due to Infidelity and disbelief, and they were near to destruction. Allah Almighty saved you by catching your hands and bestowed the Light of Belief by means of His Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). If the people remember these magnificent religious and worldly kindnesses of Allah Almighty, then they will never return astray. For this reason, Allah Almighty has described His tokens and verses openly, and signified the life of dissensions as the Hell.

103a.  And hold fast, all of you together, to the Cable of Allah, and do not separate,
103a.  Wa’-tasimuu  bi- HabLillaahi  jamii-‘anw-wa  laa  tafar-raquu,

Commentary

HabLillaahi  - (the Cable of Allah), besides literal meanings of Habl as cable, it also means ‘covenant’, promise’ in Arabic language. Moreover, each that thing, which may be used as affinity, can be meant too with it. In this verse, the aim from bringing the word HabLillaahi  is “Holy Qur’an and Divine Law of Islam”, holding of which is the source of success in this world and deliverance on the Day of Judgment.

jamii-‘an  - (all together), that is to say; all the people of Muslim nation should hold fast the Cable of Allah Almighty with amity and alliance collectively.

‘A’-tasimuu  - (hold fast), ‘i’-tisaam means to hold fast and grasp strongly. It desires that the Word of Allah Almighty be propped very strongly with intention and stability, be acted upon it and be made it aim of one’s life.

Allah Almighty has caused to know the policy in this verse. If that policy is adopted then the Muslim nation can be saved from the conspiracies, evil and dissensions of the enemies. As that, if all of you together will hold fast the Holy Qur’an, Divine Islamic Law and will act upon it, then no devilish power may overcome you, and no evildoer will be able to mislead and cause you to go astray.

In the previous verse, the persons of the nation were instructed that they all should better their own lives. They should live a life of God fearing and pious persons; remain living in Islam and die in Islam. Now it has been commanded to the Muslim Ummah in this verse that after setting their personal lives, they should hold fast, all of them together, to the Cable of Allah and should not be disjoined. When it will be done so, then their collective lives will also be unshaken and will not be able to seize like their individual lives. Due to this act, the distracted powers are assembled and a dead nation gets new life.

To hold fast the Holy Qur’an is ordered by Allah Almighty. It is such a recipe that by using it, the entire political, economical, social, moral and worldly evils of the nation run away. Holy Qur’an teaches the lesson of success in this world as well as it promises about honor and triumph in the Hereafter. Its teachings comprehend upon all points of view of the human life. The Word of Allah Almighty describes us solution of our entire individual and collective problems. Overall, it is a complete Code of life. Mystery of Success and exaltation of the Muslim nation is hidden in its following.

To hold fast the Holy Qur’an does not mean to hold it with hands only. Like this, it does not aim to keep it in view each time that everything is labeled with it, its verses are searched for each desire and the object is attained by winning over their meanings.

Life and death at Islam - Quran Chapter 3- 102 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-430) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 102 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-430) - درس قرآن

Life and death at Islam

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

102.  O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him)
102.  Yaaa-‘ayyuhal-laziina  ‘aa-manuttaqUllaaha  haqqa  tuqaa-tiHii  wa  laa  tamuutunna ‘illaa  wa  ‘antum-Muslimuun.

Commentary

Auspicious Existence of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and blessings of his company were described in the previous lesson. In addition, it was explained that how a Muslim could go to the darkness of Infidelity after getting the light of Belief, in the presence of Allah’s Beloved Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) and his teachings. The Muslims are being preached in this verse, “Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him) so that Allah Almighty keep you steadfast on the path of guidance.

Haqqa  tuqaa-tiHii  - (with right observance), we should fear Allah Almighty as though and as much as we have to Observe our duty to Him with right observance. It has been explained many times earlier about God fearing, abstinence, piety, and the word “Taqwaa” has also been used individually.

Taqwaa is the Soul of Islam and Belief, because it is difficult to spring up the Islamic characteristics and chaste life without living with virtuousness, care and looking after. Therefore, Allah Almighty commanded here, “Observe your duty to Allah with right observance, and die not save as those who have surrendered unto Him”. As though, Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) said himself, “Belief is in between the Fear and the Hope”.  The earth and the skies, sun and moon, rivers and mountains, forests and greensward, animals, vegetation and plants, minerals, fossils and stones etc, on the whole, the entire existing things have been created by Allah and are in His holding. Any atom of the world cannot move hither to thither without His order. Life and death of the human beings is in His Hand and their standing and sitting, walking and moving is in His Jurisdiction. Living in poverty and prosperity is according to written fate by Allah Almighty. Briefly, every ordinary movement of the human beings is in the Power and authority of Allah Almighty. Therefore, whose right observance on the human life can be more than Allah Almighty? While the humankind is indigent of Allah Almighty for his life and its continuance on each step, then it is necessary for him to be frightened from Allah Almighty as much as He has the right to be afraid of Him.

In the second piece of the verse, Allah Almighty commanded to the Muslims, “and die not save as those who have surrendered (unto Him)”, do not do any act contrary to Islam, your life and death should be purely at Islam, it is due upon you that you should not die until you don’t become a true and perfect Muslim. In other words, it means that, you should remain living with Islamic glory every second and every minute. Who does know that when the death comes? Infidelity, devilishness, greed and selfishness should never cause to winnow near oneself during the lifetime. This is the form only by which we can come out with credit in the obedience of His Order that we should Live for Islam and Die for Islam.

101.  How can you disbelieve, when it is ye unto whom Allah’s Revelations are recited, and His Messenger is in your midst? And he who holdeth fast to Allah, he indeed is guided unto a right path.
101.  Wa  kayfa  tak-furuuna  wa  ‘antum  tutlaa
‘alaykum  ‘Aayaa-tullaahi  wa  fiikum  Rasuuluh.
Wa  many-ya’-tasim  billaahi  fa-qad  hudiya  ‘ilaa  Siraatim-Musttaqiim.

Commentary

It has been described in this verse that the nation like Muslims can not become disbeliever after having faith, because Messenger of Allah Almighty (of high dignity) is present among them, who causes to hear them the Word of Allah Almighty, which increases their Belief. He recites the Revelations of Allah Almighty. It is the fact that the person, whosoever holds fast to Allah Almighty; leaving entire other paths and whosoever places confidence and trust in Him heartily, no power can foil up or down him from the straight path.

The ancient lineages of Madinah had very severe enmity with one another before Islam. They used to decide on a war upon very ordinary matters and the bazaar of bloodshed used to be hot (angry). When the Last Messenger of Allah Almighty, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) migrated from Makkah to Madinah, then they were lucky. The enmity between the tribes, which had been running since hundreds of the years, changed in to friendship due to teachings of Islam and blessing of the company of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him). Moreover, very strong brotherly relations were established among them.

The Jews of Madinah became very unpleasant due to likewise meeting of these dynasties and families, and being collected together for the service and protection of Islam. They appointed a person, to make mention wherever the people of the both lineages assemble about “The War of Bu-‘aas” (which was fought between the two famous tribes). He began reading the poetry to remind about the war when he found opportunity to cause to hear the both parties. As soon as the people heard this poetry, then with in no time a spark of anger was inflamed and both tribes began to equip their weapons for war. By chance Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) reached there with some companions (may Allah be pleased with them). He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) commanded, “O Muslims! Fear from Allah Almighty. While I am in your midst, then how this uncivil calling out is aloud? Allah Almighty guided you. Do you want to return from the light of guidance immediately after arriving, towards the darkness of ignorance”? As soon as they listened to the voice of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), then entire rings of the devil’s net broke one by one. The entire people threw their weapons and began weeping and embracing each other. They all understood that it was their enemies’ mischievousness, from which they would have to be careful in future.

Do not obey the People of the Scripture - Quran Chapter 3- 100 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-428) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 3- 100 (Pt-4, Stg-1) (L-428) - درس قرآن

Do not obey the People of the Scripture

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

100.  O ye who believe! If ye obey a party of those who have received the Scripture they will make you disbelievers after your belief.
100.  Yaaa- ‘ayyuhal-laziina  ‘aa-manuuu  ‘in-  tutii-‘uu  fariiqam-minallaziina  ‘uutul-Kitaaba  ya-rudduukum-  ba’-da  ‘imaani-kum  kaafiriin.

Commentary

The people of the Scripture were threatened in the previous verses, “It is not convenient for you that you mislead the people intentionally telling them fictitious faults regarding the religion of Islam, while open tokens and proofs in respect of the truth of Islam, Holy Qur’an and the Last Messenger, Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) have been manifested upon you”.

It is clear that the children of Israel used to bear malice willing or unwilling. They did not refrain after listening to the advice. Therefore, along with this, the Muslims have also been advised, “You should not be taken in by these mischievous persons. They will try to make you disbelievers with tricks of various kinds. If you will move on their suggestions and obey them, then you will throw yourselves into a state of anxiety that gradually you will fall again in the darkness of the infidelity, after coming out from the light of Belief, whence it is much difficult to come back afterwards.

ya-rudduukum – (they will make you disbelievers), origin of this word is Raddun and the word Murtad  has also come out from it. Hardest and severest punishment in Islam is for the Murtad, (renegade, the person, who turns away from Islam, is called Murtad). We cannot compel any person to accept Islam, but he cannot be forgiven who becomes Murtad (renegade of Islam), because he falls in the well of darkness of the infidelity willfully and knowingly.

Several affairs manifest from this verse:

1.   The people of the Scripture are extremely enemies of Islam and they try always that the Muslims should be turned from the religion Islam towards infidelity and belief in a plurality of God (polytheism). It is there deliberate conspiracy.

2.   A man is known by the company he keeps and the company affects itself very soon. If the Muslims will choose friendship with the people of the Scripture, act upon their advice and accept their sayings, then in process of the time their wickedness, depravity, denial and diabolical acts will infect the Muslims too.

The Muslims should learn in such circumstances that they should neither attend more the company of the people of the Scripture, nor listen to their talks, nor be deceived and nor increase their relationship with them. It is the only form to save oneself from their wickedness.

Commentary

At first, the Jews and the Christians were being addressed. In the midst, their objections were replied and doubts were cleared. Now they are being advised again, “While the paths of good and evil have been described you openly. The proofs of just and truth have been manifested, true and valid verses of Holy Qur’an have been caused to hear you. Then now what is the problem with you that you have fixed yourselves to disbelieve in Holy Qur’an and the Holder of this Word of Allah Almighty i.e. His last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him), whereas you are called the people of the Scripture”. “Remember it that your entire deeds are being noted by Allah Almighty. He knows very well also your intentions and schemes. When He will seize you, then He will not leave you before taking a complete account”.

Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) is being commanded in the second verse of this lesson, “Ask from the People of the Scripture! Not only you are deprived of getting the wealth of Belief yourselves, but you wish to drive back the believers from the Way of Allah too. Why is it so, that you try to find false and untrue faults in Islam by seeking to make it crooked (to turn the Muslims away from Islam), while you are witnesses (to Allah’s Guidance)? You do not commit these evil acts unknowingly, but try to falsify the truth after recognizing. Allah Almighty is not Unaware of these wickedness. When the time of reprisal will come, He will punish you severely.

We have come to know from these verses that the children of Israel have, willing or unwilling, enmity, malice and obstinacy against Islam. Holy Qur’an has described them entire facts openly and they have understood it too, that the Holy Qur’an is really the Word of Allah Almighty. But notwithstanding they do not adopt the straight path.

Pilgrimage of God’s House

Surah ‘Aali-‘Im-raan (The Family of ‘Imran) – Chptr – 3)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

97b.  And Pilgrimage to the House is a duty unto Allah for mankind, for him who can find a way thither. And as for him who disbelieveth, (let him know that) lo! Allah is Independent of (all) creatures.
97b.  Wa  Lillaahi  ‘alannaasi  Hijjul-Bayti  manistataa-‘a  ‘ilayhi  sabiilaa.  Wa  man-  kafara  fa- ‘innAllaaha  Ganiy-yun  ‘anil- ‘aalamiin.

Commentary

‘istataa-‘a  ‘ilayhi  sabiilaa – (for him who can find a way thither), it means that he would have sources  and means to reach the House of God Almighty (the Inviolable Place of worship i.e. Ka’-bah), provisions, traveling requisites and difficulty of the journey should not be intervening.

Heretofore, after explaining the specific matters about Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) and his custom, it had been cleared that the Muslim nation is closest in relation with Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) than the Children of Israel. The first House, which was constructed as the place of worship, was the House of Allah Almighty in Mecca (Ka’-bah – The Square Building). The Muslims chose it as place and direction for the worship. Allah Almighty commanded, “This House is very much blessed. Whosoever has blessing and guidance on the earth, that is the reflection of this House of Allah (BaytUllaah), astonishing blessings are revealed upon the persons, who make the circuit of Ka’-bah (Circumambulators) around it. It has been distinguished particularly for performing its pilgrimage”.

Pilgrimage is a such worship, every act of which shows that the person, who is performing the pilgrimage, how much he has love of the Real Master (God Almighty) in his heart? Therefore, Allah Almighty commanded, “Allah has the Right on the people that the persons, who can afford to come Here, they must perform the pilgrimage of Ka’-bah. The person, who claims to be in love with Allah Almighty and can afford to reach this House of Allah (BaytUllaah) physically and financially, he would attend the House of the Real Worshipped at least once in his/her life. The person, who will avoid performing the pilgrimage, lo! Comprehend of him that he is a liar claimant of love with Allah Almighty; he may be pushed, wherever he wants. Allah Almighty does not have any care for him/her; if someone dies as a Jew or a Christian, it does not affect Allah Almighty”.

This test (of pilgrimage) will clear that who has been convinced by Oneness of God Almighty. Who loves purely Allah Almighty? Whoever has love for wealth, he will delay to perform the pilgrimage, he cannot be real worshipper of God, and who would have real love, he will reach there frenziedly. He will revolve around the House of Allah like the frenzies, with scattered hair, will confess with love and great humility saying, “Labbayka,  Allaahumma  Labbayka,  Labbayka  laa Shariika  Laka  Labbayka,  ‘Innal-hamda wan-Na’-mata Laka wal-Mulk, laa Shariika Lak”.  (Here I am O Allah, here I am, there is no partner for You, here I am, Verily all praise for You, and every bounty is from You, and all dominion is Yours - You have no partner.). He will kiss the Black Stone, fixed in a corner of the Square Building of Ka’-bah, (Hajar-i-Aswad), will run on the Safa and the Marwa hillocks, will offer prayer at the place of Abraham (Maqaam-i-‘Ibraa-hiim) (peace be upon him), will sacrifice in Minaa, will be present at Jabal-i- Rahmat . Even he will do every thing with which his/her Lord may be pleased.
