Quran Chapter 6 – 76 & 77 (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-837) - درس قرآن

Proper use of sense

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

76.  When the night grew dark upon him he beheld a star. He said: This is my Lord. But when it set, he said: I love not things that set.

77.  And when he saw the moon uprising, he exclaimed: This is my Lord. But when it set, he said: Unless my Lord guide me, I surely shall become one of the folk who are astray.
76.  Falam-maa  janna  ‘alayhil-laylu  ra-‘aa  kaw-kabaa.  Qaala  haazaa  Rabbii.  Falam-maaa  ‘afala  qaala  laaa  ‘uhibbul-‘aafiliin.

77.  Falam-maa  ra-‘al-qamara  baazi-gan  qaala  haazaa  Rabbii.  Falam-maaa  ‘afala  qaala  la-‘illam  yah-dinii  Rabbii  la-‘akuu-nanna  minal-qawmiz-zaalliin.

Commentary

Janna – (covered), it is an active verb, Origin of which is Jannun. Jannun means “to cover, to hide”. The word Januun is a production of the same origin, which means “concealment, to disappear, to set, to be hidden”. The word Jinn (demon) has also been derived from it, which is a hidden creature and cannot be seen with human eyes. Here it aims “to be hidden in darkness”.

‘Afala – (set, disappeared), it is an intransitive verb, and its origin is ‘Afuul (to set, to disappear, to conceal). The word “’afala” is also from its Subject; that is to say “a doer, an agent, a nominative”.

It was described in the verse of previous lesson # 836 that when Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) gave up the idols; knowing them useless, then Allah Almighty brightened His wisdom more and He understood that not only the idols are useless but entire things of the world, whether those are seen very splendid, are not able of Divinity (to be God), though the people have considered them also gods. It was still childhood of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) that He began to think in this Matter. The same has been described in this verse and forthcoming verses.

It is commanded that He (peace be upon Him) saw a bright star in the sky during the darkness of the night. He thought: Perhaps it is God and my Lord. After some time, when it disappeared, His heart decided: Such things which set, cannot be God. Later on, He (peace be upon Him) saw the moon uprising and imagined about its Godhead by looking its splendor. That also vanished after a while, and then He said: Unless my Lord guide me towards His own Path, I surely shall become one of the folk who are astray. This event of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) is a fine allegory for thinking about The Noble Personage of Allah Almighty.

Likeness of Abraham (peace be upon him)

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

74.  (Remember) when Abraham said unto His father Azar: Takest thou idols for gods? Lo! I see thee and thy folk in error manifest.

75.  Thus did We show Abraham the kingdom of the heavens and the earth that He might be of those possessing certainty.
74.  Wa  ‘iz  qaala  ‘Ibraa-hiimu  li-‘abiihi  ‘Aazara  ‘atatta-khizu  ‘asnaa-man  ‘aalihah.  ‘Inniii  ‘araaka  wa  qawmaka  fii  zalaalim-mubiin.

75.  Wa  kazaalika  Nuriii  ‘Ibraa-hiima  Malakuu-tas-samaawaati  wal-‘arzi  wa  li-yakuuna  minal-Muu-qi-niin.

Commentary

‘Aazar – it is the name of Prophet Abraham’s (peace be upon Him) father, who was an idolater and his entire nation was also idolaters.

‘Asnaam – (idols), it is plural of sanam, which means an idol. Sanam is called to a fixed bodily form of any imaginary thing. The idols are also called ‘asnaam (sanam), because those are statues of imaginary gods.

‘Aalihah – it is plural of Allah, literal meaning of ‘ilaah. A thing, which touches the heart deeply, aims “the worshipped”.

Malakuut – the system of whole world is called Malak. Small arrangements to this chief are called Malakuut. Everything in the world has its own governing system and then, this system is subordinate to a big collective governor. The first system is Malakuut, while the other is Malak.

It was commanded in the previous verses that you should ask from the infidels: Who did guide you to worship the idols deserting from Allah Almighty? The person, who has a very common sense, will think certainly that neither the idols can profit anyone and nor hurt.

A narration about Prophet Abraham is being described in this verse that He (peace be upon Him) recognized Allah Almighty by observing the Tokens in the Universe and contrary to Them, found the idols quite useless and worthless. He (peace be upon Him) caused to understand the same to His father also.

It is commanded: Behold! In what manner, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) said the word of wisdom to His father that: Do you worship these self-made and invented statues and idols, which are made of mud and stone etc. and determine them as your gods and worshipped? I know that you and your folk have been entangled in an open error manifest. What stupidity would be more than it that you make a statue with your own hands and then begin to worship it?

Next to above discussion, Allah Almighty says: When Our Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) gave up worshipping idols, then did We begin to show Him the secrets and the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and described Him that every that thing, which will be seen by You, has its own system and arrangement, and then these all systems have been running under the control of a Splendid System, which has been established by a Sole-Controller – Allah Almighty.

73.  And He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Truth. And in the Day when He say: Be! Then it will become. His Word is the Truth, and His will be the Sovereignty on the Day when the Trumpet is blown. Knower of the Invisible and the Visible. And He is the Wise, the Aware.

Commentary

Khalaqa – (to create, to make), it has been derived from khalaq, the actual meaning of which is “to prepare any other thing after clipping a part from any larger thing as, a tailor makes a shirt from a cut piece of cloth, which was roughly clipped from a big piece of cloth”. The entire heavens and the earth have been created from one thing duly clipped with correct guess. However, there is a little difference between above both things i.e. the piece of cloth comes short after clipping for the shirt, but that thing does not lessen, from which the heavens, the earth and the whole other creatures among them have been created after clipping.

Suur – As per Arabic language, the Suur means “a (musical) horn prepared duly excavated from its inner side”, a very powerful sound comes out from it if its first end is blown by mouth. Like this, a thing (the Trumpet) is ready in the Invisible World, which will be blown by an Angel, named Israfil (peace be upon Him). Everything will be perished due to its frightful sound. Then, whenever Allah Almighty will sanction, that Angel (peace be upon Him) will blow in the Trumpet again, the entire human beings (from the beginning to the end) will be reproduced due to this sound. That will be the Day of Resurrection. The word Suur has been used for our knowledge only, otherwise, it is not easy to understand its reality at this time.

It was commanded in the previous verse: You should say to the idolaters! We cannot be the worshippers of idols because we have known the True Worshipped. Following virtues and excellence of That Original Worshipped have been described in these verses:

1.    Allah Almighty is the Lord of the entire Worlds.

2.    He it is before Whom, the entire mankind will be accountable and gathered on the Day of Resurrection.

3.    He it is Who created the heavens and the earth in Truth.

4.    He is the Creator by saying the one word only “Kun” (Be).

5.    His Word is the Truth. Surely, that is done, what He says.

6.    His will be the Sovereignty on the Day of Resurrection.

7.    He is Knower of the Invisible and the Visible.

Quran Chapter 6 – 71a (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-834) - درس قرآن

Crying, instead of unto God

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

71a.  Say: shall we cry, instead of unto Allah, unto that which neither profiteth us nor hurteth us, and shall we turn back after Allah hath guided us, like one bewildeth, whom the devils have infatuated in the earth, who hath companions who invite him to the guidance (saying): Come unto us?
71a.  Qul  ‘anad-‘uu  min  duuNillaahi  maa  laa  yanfa-‘unaa  wa  laa  yazurrunaa  wa  nuraddu  ‘alaaa  ‘a’-qaabinaa  ba’-da  ‘iz  hadaa-nAllaahu  kallazis-tahwat-hush-shayaa-tiinu  fil-‘arzi  hayraan.  Lahuuu  ‘as-haabuny-yad-‘uunahuuu  ‘ilal-huda’-tinaa.

Commentary

‘A’-qaabun – this word is plural of “’Aqab”, which means “Heel”.

‘As-tahwat – it is past tense, which has been derived from ‘is-tahwaaa’, which means “to mislead, to infatuate”.

‘Ash-shayaa-tiin – it is plural of Shaytaan (Satan), the devil. It aims “those evil spirits, who are called “ignis, ghost, demon etc. which are unseen but can be felt by other means”.

It is commanded that the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) should say to the disbelievers: Do you want from us that we should worship and cry unto the stones, the trees etc. and forsake Allah Almighty, whereas you know that neither those can profit us and nor hurt? Do you wish to turn us back, while Allah Almighty has guided and led us towards the Straight Path? Certainly we shall never turn away from that Guidance.

Allah Almighty says: Ask them! What is your opinion about that person, who is going on the Straight Path along with his well-wishers, lovers, beloveds, friends and companions, but the mischievous, selfish, tyrant devils cause to desert him from his associates by pointing him out, and leave him bewildered in the forest? Now he has been rambling hither and thither senseless due to the influence of evil spirits. Sometimes he rushes toward a thing and the other time he runs toward any other thing. His friends and companions are calling him with sympathy and say: If you will come unto us, you will be set free from these confusions. But he is under the control of astray devils and unable to hear the voice of his own people? If we shall give up Islam now, then our condition will be totally the same as that person.

We should learn from this verse that we should not be separated from the Way of True Muslims due to tempt by evil desires. Otherwise, we shall gain nothing except distress and confusion. And even the voice of our well-wisher friends will not reach our ears, because the desires make a man blind and deaf, and leave him alone bewildered.

Way of Preaching - Quran Chapter 6 – 70b (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-833) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 6 – 70b (Pt-7, Stg-2) (L-833) - درس قرآن

Way of Preaching

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Preaching is incumbent upon the Muslims and it is the same duty which has been prescribed upon Muhammad, the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) by Allah Almighty, and after Him, it has been prescribed upon the Muslim Nation, which is His Successor. Once earlier, the topic of preaching has already been discussed in this Chapter (Surah).

Now, the second time, which three verses we recited in the previous four lessons, not only the preaching has been prescribed upon the Nation into them, but we can know the way of preaching also. This lesson will reflect on it so that, after understanding the importance of this duty, it may be performed in a correct manner.

Last three verses are a link of this chain. Abstract from the first verse of them is “You should withdraw from those people, who meddle with the Revelations of Holy Qur’aan (when they listen), disrespect the verses by their tongue or acts and are not ready to hear with humanity, because in such condition, there is a fear “By sitting with them, our names may be written in the list of wrongdoing people. Then you should not go unto them until they meddle with any other topic”.

The idolaters of Makkah used to do so, that, after hearing the Revelations of Holy Qur’aan, they used to mock with Them. Due to this reason, the Muslims thought: What form of their guidance will be, because as soon as we withdraw from their meeting, they begin to meddle and jest, curse and taunt rudely in the same manner?

It has been replied in the next verse: In such condition, those people who withdraw and ward off evil are not accountable for them in aught. Moreover, it is commanded also that the reminder about the commands of Holy Qur’aan must be given them that haply they too, who are wise of them, may ward off evil.

In the third verse, it has been described very clearly that you should forsake those rude people who take their religion for a pastime and a jest, and whom the life of the world has beguiled. But even then, it has been commanded that you should remind the mankind by means of the Revelations of Holy Qur,aan, admonition and advice, lest a soul be destroyed by what it earned. It can be understood from this description that “If there is any fear that whenever we shall visit them, they will mock with us”, in this form, admonishing them is not incumbent.

Therefore, in this situation, such a method of preaching should be chosen that the duty of preaching is performed as well as the cause of conflict is not born. It can be known by thinking that its only way is: The Muslims should prove it the best religion by acting upon their own religion themselves. They should correct their own condition before saying or hearing others in such a way that everyone begin to say: No doubt; these people are the best in morality, business, social relationship and politics. They lead all in sympathy, advice and human well-wishing. They are embodied incomparable of union and amity.

Whenever we shall expose ourselves to view duly corrected and the people will know that, truly, we are the best people, then they will adopt our way automatically. Going unto the non-Muslims with the present condition, in which the Muslims are fallen, is like treating ourselves with contempt. In the present form, we cannot say even to our own Muslims, because they will reply us at the spot: Look at your own at first. Then saying to others is useless. What can we hope from others in such condition? So the best method of preaching is: Produce yourselves as a model role for others and along with it, cause to hear the Message to other people.

Compensation will not be acceptable

70b.  And if it offer every compensation it will not be accepted from it. Those are they who are perished by their own deserts. For them is drink of boiling water and a painful doom, because they disbelieved.
70b.  Wa  ‘in-  ta’-dil  kulla  ‘ad-lil-laa  yu’-khaz  minhaa.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ikalla-ziina  ‘ubsiluu  bimaa  kasabuu.  Lahum  sharaabum-min  hamiiminw-wa  ‘azaabun  ‘aliimum-bimaa  kaanuu  yakfuruun.

Commentary

Ta’-dil – (offering compensation), this word is from ‘Adl, which means “equality” as per Arabic language. That thing can be compensation of any other thing, which is equal to the other. Therefore, here it aims ‘compensation’.

Sharaabun – (a drink), in Arabic, every drinkable thing is called sharaab, as every eatable thing is called ta-‘aam. There are some other words for the forbidden liquor (sharaab) like ‘Khumar’ etc. in Arabic language.

Hamiim – (boiling), this word has been derived from hamam. Two more famous words are in use from the same origin: (1).   Hamaam – The bath-room, where hot water is available and the hamaam is also kept hot. (2).   Hummaa – it means ‘Fever’.

It is appendix of previous verse. It was described in the first part of this verse (previous lesson) that they will not find any protector or intercessor on the Day of Resurrection except Allah Almighty. Now it is being explained that if they will offer, even every compensation, which they will have, to get rid of that Day’s calamity, it will not be possible. Entire remunerations of the whole world will be useless there. Suppose! They have the entire world and by offering it, they want to be saved, even then they will not be able to escape. Only good works and belief of this life will be useful There. There will be no source of their deliverance while their own deeds would be cause of their seizure.

It is commanded that even the biggest compensation will not be accepted before Allah Almighty. On the Doomsday, the condition of such people will be that, ill-luck of their evil deeds would have surrounded them from all around and they would be standing as prisoners in the Court of Allah Almighty like criminals to be punished. Their wicked acts will become handcuffs and fetters, and those will tie their hands and feet.

They would have drunk big glasses of cold water in the world. They would not have talked except the bottles pressed in the ice. They would have remained sitting and sleeping in the soft chairs and quilted bedding comfortably. But there, their disbelief only will be kept in front. Worldly pomp, property and dignity will not be useful There, no concession whether they were honored and well off people of the world. For drinking, boiling water will be given to them, and they will suffer from a painful doom of body and soul of every sort, and that will be only because they disbelieved in Allah Almighty and turned away from His Commands in the world.

70a.  And forsake those who take their religion for a pastime and a jest, and whom the life of the world has beguiled. Remind (mankind) hereby lest a soul be destroyed by what it earneth. It hath beside Allah no protector nor intercessor.

Commentary

Zar – it is a command which has been derived from wazar. Wazar means “being separate by forsaking”. Zar means “Be separate by forsaking and mind your own business”.

La-‘ibanw-wa  lah-wan – a pastime and a jest. We have discussed these words already in the fourth section of this Chapter.

Garrat – it is past tense and this word has been derived from Garuur. Garuur means “to beguile, to mislead, to deceive”. Magruur is the person, who has fallen into misunderstanding, misapprehension.

Tubsala – is destroyed, is seized.

The people; belonged to earlier times vitiated their religion; too much that they admitted dancing, singing, pastime and jest also into their religious affairs and afterwards these amusing acts became entire religion and the actual religion; that is to say; worship, prayers and other issues were erased before these ceremonies, as though the religion was destroyed, and those nations, who destroyed it, were also ruined.

Allah Almighty has forbidden the Muslims to follow them, so that the religion may keep its footing in its original form as well as the believers of this religion may stand firm too in good condition. It is commanded that you should give up conversation with them. However, you should deliver the Message of Holy Qur’aan to them and admonish them properly that: Such a time is coming soon when you will be seized due to your wicked deeds, and there will be neither any protector nor intercessor. You will be in such condition that your deeds, in which you did not regard the Rules, Regulations made by Allah Almighty and His Commandments, but you broke Them by following your desires, will be the reason of your destruction. Your friends will desert from your companionship. Those who recommend you here, will run away from you there. You will see none but Allah Almighty from Whom you had disconnected in the world, and then you will believe that: There is No well for me now.

Allah Almighty, in Whose grip you would have to come in the Hereafter, you left Him and displeased from yourself in the world. And they have left you today, with whom you linked your relationships, leaving Allah Almighty. Today (the Day of Resurrection) your affair is only with Allah Almighty and He will treat you as He warned and admonished you with complete details through Holy Qur’aan already in the world that “It hath beside Allah Almighty no protector nor intercessor”, so you should try to please Allah Almighty at every cost.
