18. He said: Go forth
from hence, degraded, banished. As for such of them as follow thee, surely I
will fill Hell with all of you.
19. And (unto man): O Adam!
Dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden and eat from whence ye will, but come
not nigh this tree lest ye become wrongdoers.

Commentary
Maz-‘uuman –
(Degraded), grammatically, this word is “the Passive Participle” from Zaamun. Zaamun means
“sin, badness, disgrace. Maz-‘uumun means
“disgraceful, contemptible, vicious”.
Mad-huuraa
- (Banished), it is also “the passive participle”, which has been derived
from Dahrun. Dahrun means “to banish, to reject. Mad-huuran means “driven away, rejected,
disgraced”.
Zaalimiin -
(Wrongdoers), plural of Zaalim, which has come out from Zulm.
Zulm means “to damage, to lose and to hurt - own or any other”. Here
it has the same meaning that “You will be one from the losers”.
It was
described in the previous verse that Iblis was overjoyed
because He was reprieved till the Day of Resurrection and began to say: As I
have been humiliated because of Adam (peace be upon Him), now I shall take
revenge with open heart from Him and will make many from His children stray.
The next situation is in this verse.
It is
explained that Allah Almighty commanded after hearing the talk of Satan: Thou
has been degraded and banished. So go forth from here. We don’t care if thou
make the children of Adam (peace be upon Him) stray and mislead them by
deceiving. There is no loss of Us in it. We shall throw thou and those who will
follow thou; into the Fire of Hell collectively.
After
that, Allah Almighty commanded to Adam (peace be upon Him): O Adam! Thou should
live in Gardens along with Thy wife. You will be free from all restrictions but
you should not come near this tree, which is in front of you. Don’t touch it;
otherwise, You will be included among “the losers”.
We have
studied the story of Adam (peace be upon Him) in Chapter two; Suratul
Baqarah. It was explained there that before the birth of Adam (peace be
upon Him), Allah Almighty had told the Angels (peace be upon Them): I shall
create a Caliph (Viceroy) on the earth.
It was
manifested from this narration that some responsibilities will be laid on the
human being after giving him some special powers and thereby he will be tested
that whether he performs his duty properly, which was given to him, or
otherwise?
In the
last verse of Suratul ‘An-‘aam, it has been explained clearly for
the entire mankind that: Allah Almighty has made all of you His viceroy on the
earth and He desires to test you in this way.
In this Chapter, description
regarding preparing the children of Adam for that Examination has been
reflected. Adam and Eve (peace be upon Them) were kept in the Gardens first,
the aim to cause to understand from which was that; it is the actual place of
dwelling for Adam and His children. Purpose of restriction in the Garden was
that they should learn to live in the prescribed limits of Allah Almighty, they
may know the object of every kind of sin and they should recognize the method:
How to submit the request of pardon?
