Hateful matters - Quran Chapter 5 – 60 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-706) -

Quran Chapter 5- 60 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-706) -

Hateful matters

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

60.  Shall I tell thee of a worse (case) than theirs for retribution with Allah? (Worse is the case of him) whom Allah hath cursed, him on whom His wrath hath fallen and of whose sort Allah hath turned some to apes and swine, and who serveth the Devil. Such are in worse plight and further astray from the straight path.
60.  Qul  hal  ‘unabbi-‘ukum  bi-sharrim-min-  zaalika  masuubatan  ‘indAllaah.  Malla-‘anaHUllaahu  wa  gaziba  ‘alayhi  wa  ja-‘ala  min-humul-qiradata  wal-khanaaziira  wa  ‘abadat-Taaguut.  ‘Ulaaa-‘ika  sharrum-makaananw-wa  ‘azallu  ‘an  sawaaa-‘is-sabiil.

Commentary

Masuubatan is another form of Sawaab (Reward), which means “Retaliation of any good or bad deed”. Here it signifies towards “retaliation of evil deed and its punishment”.

Khanaaziira – it is plural of Khinziir, which means “a swine”.

It was instructed to the Muslims in the previous verse that they should say to the Jews: We have believed in Allah Almighty and all the Scriptures sent by Him. From those Scriptures, Holy Qur’aan is one, which is ours. And maximum people of you are disobedient and refractory. Your decision, that the Believers are worse and deserve punishment, is as slaying the justice and entirely opposite to the fact.

Allah Almighty commands in this verse: Say to the Jews! If you say, we can tell you about those from the both, who are worse and deserve worse retribution? We do not declare the names of those, but there are some signs. The peoples of which party contain those signs, are worse and they deserve punishment.

It is commanded: Those people, whom Allah Almighty has cursed, on whom His wrath has fallen and some of whom were turned to apes and swine in the past, they are worse and deserve retaliation.

The person, who is found with these evils, has been fallen from the grade of humanity and has gone back from the Straight Path. That person is hateful and should be punished properly.

The Jews themselves and the persons, who were aware of their history, they all were acquainted that these all matters are applicable to them (the Jews). They were cursed by Allah Almighty and His wrath fell down on them too. From them some were turned to apes and swine, and they were also from the Jews, who became worshipers of a calf by following Satan. We have discussed all these matters in Surah ‘Al-Baqarah.

Quran Chapter 5- 59 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-705) -

Wrongdoers do not like the righteous

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

59.  Say: O People of the Scripture! Do ye blame us for aught else than that we believe in Allah and that which is revealed unto us and that which was revealed aforetime, and verily most of you are evil-livers?
59.  Qul  yaaa-‘Ahlal-Kitaabi  hal  tanqi-muuna  minnaaa  ‘illaaa  ‘an  ‘aamannaa  BIllaahi  wa  maaa  ‘unzila  ‘ilaynaa  wa  maaa  ‘unzila  min  qablu,  wa  ‘anna  ‘ak-sarakum  faasi-quun.

Commentary

Tanqi-muuna – (You blame us), it is from naqmat, which means “to find fault, to take someone in a bad sense”. It aims “You rage upon us”. It is apparent that blaming, abusing or troubling anyone by finding fault in his skill, is usually due to opposite thought. So the word tanqi-muuna has been translated as “blame”.

Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) of Allah Almighty and care of Him, other Muslims are being addressed in this verse that they should ask the People of the Scripture, “Why are you angry upon us? We have never said any such word, due to which, you became our enemy. Any new thing, which can be seen into us, is only that we have chosen Allah Almighty as our only Worshipped. We believe in Him wholeheartedly and consider that Holy Qur’aan is His true Scripture. As well as we believe in those all Scriptures, which were revealed before it that those are true. Holy Qur’aan has also declared that those Holy Books were true and it has kept their original commands in order; either as those were or with a suitable change. Our duty is to obey and act upon those commands. On the contrary, which new thing has been observed into you; is that many people from you have become disobedient and they have gripped up their loins to disbelieve in the commands of their own Scripture. If they had believed in their commands, then it would have become compulsory for them to believe in the Holy Qur’aan, because they have been ordered in those commands that they should have to believe in the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and His Scripture, Holy Qur’aan and obey their commandments. These are two different matters which are visible clearly between you and us i.e. we obey the commands of God Almighty, but you disobey. Is it good that you take our obedience in a bad sense and yours disobedience in a good sense and oppose us? If you don’t have enmity with us due to the reason that we are obedient of Allah Almighty, then you should explain before us! Which is other reason of bad relations among you and us?

If you will afflict us, then all Just people will say only that the Jews and the Christians dislike the Muslims because they serve and obey God Almighty.

Mockery of the prayer - Quran Chapter 5 – 58 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-704) -

Quran Chapter 5- 58 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-704) -

Mockery of the prayer

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

58.  And when ye call to prayer they take it for a jest and sport. That is because they are a folk who understand not.
58.  Wa  ‘izaa  naa-daytum  ‘ilas-Salaa-titta-khazuuhaa  huzu-wanw-wa  la-‘ibaa.  Zaalika  bi-‘annahum  qawmul-laa  ya’-qiluun.

Commentary

It was told in the previous lesson that the Jews and the Christians used to make a jest and sport of your religion. That has been illustrated in this verse. Allah Almighty says, “When you call to prayer (Azaan is the summons to prayers), they take it for a jest and sport. It is clear that there is no such a thing in this Call (Azaan), which should be made a jest. There is a declaration about the Greatness and Magnificence of God (Allah Almighty) in this Call. It has been admitted in it that He is One and Actual Worshiped, and Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is His Messenger, who is the last Messenger and has brought last “Divine Law of the Religion”, who adjudges that entire previous Messengers and Prophets (peace be upon Them) were true and this last Divine Law is an abstract and exact of all Divine Laws of former Messengers (peace be upon Them).

With regard to the morality, He {Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)} is the Spiritual Guide of the entire good people, supports and corrects the condition of every person, and guides others to do the same between you mutually and does not have any evil wish for anyone. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) instructs that you should neither involve in any quarrel, nor overpower others for fulfilling of own wishes and nor reap advantage by harming someone else.

There is nothing in the words of the summons to prayers (Azaan) but to admit that “God (Allah Almighty) and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) are Rightful”, and to invite the entire human beings towards the goodness and the virtue. Who can be that person except a stupid and a fool, who makes a jest of such description? These are the matters with which safety and peace can be established in the world and the mankind can arrange his form.

If it is imagined then you will see that there is a proclamation (in the summons to prayers) of peace and safety for the entire human beings, and correct way of their life has been described completely. There is an invitation in the summons to the prayer, “Let’s stand up all collectively before One True Worshiped (God, Allah Almighty) and move on the way explained by His Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Neither anyone is great nor little. All are equal before Allah Almighty and only He is the Greatest. Let’s tie our hands and bow humbly standing before Him. Beg from Him earnestly because the devotion is only for Him. Don’t be slaves of your desires.

The Religion is not a jest - Quran Chapter 5 – 57 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-703) -

Quran Chapter 5- 57 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-703) -

The Religion is not a jest

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

57.  O Ye who believe! Choose not for guardians such of those who received the Scripture before you, and of the disbelievers, who made a jest and sport of your religion. And keep your duty to Allah if ye are true believers.
57.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  laa  tatta-khizul-laziinatta-khazuu  Diinakum  huzuwanw-wa  la-‘ibam-minal-laziina  ‘uutul-Kitaaba  min-  qablikum  wal-kuffaara  ‘awli-yaaa’.  Watta-qUllaaha  ‘in-kuntum- Mu’-miniin.

Commentary

It was ordered in the primary verses of previous Section, “Take not the Jews and the Christians for friends”. This commandment has also been delivered in the beginning of this Section, but with a little difference. The reason of this command has been explained here more clearly, and other infidels have also been included in this category, because the root of the behavior of the both (the people of the Scripture and the Infidels) is the same.

It is commanded that you have believed in Allah Almighty. Believing in Allah Almighty is, believing in the advice that the entire human beings are servants of Allah Almighty, so all are equal in this respect. Everyone should be provided necessary things according to one’s necessity. Neither anyone should make slave to any other of his own and nor anyone should be the slave of any other but Allah Almighty.

Therefore, you are advised that you should not rely on the friendship of those people, who call themselves “the Jews, the Christians” and those who received the Scripture before you, because they make a jest of your religion and take your thoughts in the sense of absurdity, and take not your way of life other than a sport.

This foul imagination has taken place in their heart that they are most superior and best of all, and all of others should live under their influence. Think with wisdom now! Can harmony, deep relationship and true friendship be between you and them? Never, so you should keep your footing in your belief and do not fear anyone but Allah Almighty.

Like them, there are other infidels also. It is their old rule to loot one another, to keep others under influence and make them slaves. They also look their death in Islam like the Jews and the Christians. They can never be your friends. We knew from it that the people, who insult the religions of one another, cannot be friends of one another.

In short, everyone has right of freedom in religion and imaginations. A mutual agreement is necessary for provision of the necessities of life to everybody of the world according to one’s desires and a treaty of safety and peace. Then all people can live in the world satisfactorily.

54b.  Such is the Grace of Allah which He giveth unto whom He will. And Allah is All-Embracing,   All-Knowing.

55.  Your guardian can be only Allah; and His Messenger and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poor-due, and bow down (in prayer).

56.  And whoso taketh Allah and His Messenger and those who believe for guardian (will know that), then lo! the party of Allah, are they that shall be victorious.
54b.  Zaalika  FazlUllaahi  Yu’-tiihi  many-yashaaa’.  WAllaahu  Waasi-‘un  ‘Aliim.

55.  ‘Innamaa  Waliyyu-kumUllaahu  wa  Rasuu-luHuu  wallaziina  ‘aamanullaziina    yuqii-muunas-Salaata  wa  yu’-tuu-naz-Zakaata  wa hum  raaki-‘uun.

56.  Wa  many-yata  wAllaaha  wa  Rasuu-laHuu  wallaziina  ‘aamanuu  fa-‘inna  Hiz-bAllaahi  humul-gaali-buun.

Commentary

Raaki-‘uun – {the persons who bow down (in prayer)}, It is plural of Raaki’ and its origin is Rakuu’, which means to bow down, to prostrate, to request humbly.

Hiz-bAllaahi – (the party of Allah), the company, the division, the community or the class of those people, who are obedient servants of Allah Almighty.

Allah Almighty appoints the people for safety and support of His religion (Islam), to whom He will. They should be thankful to Allah Almighty, who say themselves “Muslim”, that He has selected them as the supporters of Islam. If they will be renegades from Islam, then it would be meant that they do not have manners to hold up Islam, and they are not able to be sanctioned as supporters and protectors of Islam. So Allah Almighty will bring some other people for the greatness and magnificence of Islam.

It is the Grace of Allah Almighty which He gives unto whom He will and gets the work of eminence of Islam from whom He will. His mercy and kindness is unlimited, and He is All-Knowing about the capabilities of everyone. Remember! Your real friend, and supporter can be only Allah Almighty; His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and those who believe, who establish worship and pay the poor-due, and bow down in prayer. These are the people, who are helpers and assistants of Allah Almighty. These are “the party of Allah Almighty. Bear in mind! This party of Allah Almighty and His helpers shall be victorious.

54a.  O ye who believe! Whoso of you becometh a renegade from his religion, then (in their place) Allah will bring a people whom He loveth and who love Him, humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers, striving in the Way of Allah, and fearing not the blame of any blamer.
54a.  Yaaa-  ‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  many-yar-tadda  minkum  ‘an-  Diinihii  fa-sawfa  ya’-TIllaahu-  bi-qawminy-Yu-hibbuhum  wa  yuhib-buunaHuuu,  ‘azillatin  ‘alal-  Mu’-miniina  ‘a-‘izzatin  ‘alal-  Kaafiriina,  yujaa-hiduuna  fii  SabiiLIllaahi  wa  laa  yakhaa-fuuna  law-mata  laaa-‘im.

Commentary

‘Irti-daad – (rejecting), this word is from Radd, which means “rejection, to return, vomit”. Murtad means renegade, an apostate from a religious faith, deserter. Such a person, who rejects or turns away from Islam after embracing, is called Murtad. It has been derived from the word “’Irtadaad”.

‘Azillatin – (humble, to bring low, to make submissive), it is plural of zaliil, which has been made from zillatZillat means “softness, delicacy, tenderness, slackness, looseness, clumsiness.

‘A-‘izzatin – (stern, austere, harsh, cruel), it is plural of ‘Aziiz, which is from ‘izzat‘Izzat means “extremely plainness, severity, and harshness”.

Law-mata (blame, to find fault with, to censure, imputation of a crime), Laaa-‘im has also been derived from it, which means “the blamer”.

It was described earlier that the persons, who associate with other than believers, there is a risk for them that the disbelievers will cause to incline them towards themselves by showing their outward kindness, pomp and show, and they may be renegade from Islam, due to feeling it apparently in a weak condition. Today it has been narrated very clearly, “Islam is not your indigent to remain in the world, but actually, you are needy of Islam for living a good life. If anyone of you becomes a renegade from his religion, he cannot spoil anything of Islam. Allah Almighty gives validity to Islam that it would have to remain in the world and He will keep it up. However if you will be renegade, then (in your place) Allah Almighty will bring a people whom He loves and who love Him, who are humble toward believers, stern toward disbelievers (the enemies of the humanity), striving in His Way, and fearing not the blame of any blamer.

Behavior of Muslims with others - Quran Chapter 5 – 53 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-700) -

Quran Chapter 5- 53 (Pt-6, Stg-2) (L-700) -

Behavior of Muslims with others

Surah MAAA-‘IDAH (The Table Spread) – Chapter – 5)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast.)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful.)

The Muslims were instructed in the previous two lessons that they should not keep deep friendly relationship with the Jews and the Christians, and it has been told very clearly about them, who say themselves ‘Muslims’ and see towards the disbelievers with friendly eyes, that there is a disease, a defect (of hypocrisy) in their hearts.

Before these verses, the Muslims have been prevented – once in Surah ‘Aali- ‘Imraan and twice in Surah Nisaaa’ that they should not keep friendly relations with the Infidels, ignoring the Muslims. After this so much strict guidance, now we should think, “How would we have to live in the world?” Because surely the disbelievers will dwell forever as well as the Jews will live until their prescribed time and the Muslim too are not efface-able until the mortality of the world.

Till the present time, the need for thinking more upon this problem was not felt because a very powerful Muslim government was established in the world, and probably they thought that they would never be put down. So this question had not any importance for them. But nowadays, the condition of the Muslims is open. Whether anyone wishes or not, but he would have to accept it incumbent that the Muslims are under a close arrest and have fallen into the traps of the strangers from their all around. It is known here that perhaps it was error of ours own that we did neither learn, nor teach the dwelling manner by mixing up with different nations; considering it seriously, while we had degree of leadership and instructorship of the nations of the world.

It appears by meditating in these verses that the guidance for the Muslims to live separately from the Infidels and the people of the Scripture; is not due to the reason that they are disbelievers and the Muslims are believers, but actual reason is that they are very selfish and purely wrongdoers. At the other hand, the Muslims’ fundamental faith is that the entire humankind are servants of Allah Almighty, and being the servants of Allah Almighty they all are brothers and sisters of one another mutually themselves. Therefore, well-wishing for one another is compulsory for them even having separate religions. They should not think only for their own welfare, but let all of them get opportunity equally to reap the advantages from the benefits of the world, and they all should take their shares with equity and reconciliation, mutually themselves.

This is the lesson which was forgotten by the Muslims themselves. Whereas they were given chance to act upon it at their own as well as teach the world properly about the method of dwelling comfortably in the life. But they forgot this lesson, learnt the lesson of selfishness from others and put the teachings of Holy Qur’aan behind.

It is revealed that the only rule of dwelling in this world may be that every nation, sect, community and class should be independent in its religion and thoughts. None should suppress anyone, but the entire human beings should agree upon it mutually that all the people are provided equal share in the worldly gains. Therefore, the wars and the battles should be dismissed, which surely depend on the selfishness.

It is the teachings of Islam, “Do not fight for worldly superiority with one another, however you can fight for moral pre-eminence”.
