82a.  Wa  maa  kaana  jawaaba  qawmihiii  ‘illaaa  ‘an- qaaluuu  ‘akhrijuuhum  -min-qar-yatikum.

Commentary
If someone becomes accustomed of any ill-mannered act, he does not have any reply to satisfy the individual, who is going to cause to understand him. Particularly while the act is highly disgusting and the aim of wrong doer is to tease someone else necessarily, he can say nothing as answer save an ugly and irrelevant word.

The talk of that person, who advises the adulterer, is felt so much blushing by the evil doer, who commits an act, which is inhumanity and contrary to reason, then he can do nothing except being ashamed and displeased. The best part of his inner self gets ready to quarrel with himself and reproaches. This part is his irascibility, which supports the adviser fully. And if the criminal has not choked his senses entirely so far, he may return towards the straight path with two or three harsh jerks of advice. But if his conscience has died then the best talk of the adviser seems him deadly poison in spite of being an antidote.

It is clear from the answer of the folk of Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) that they had lost their senses. They determined the external and internal chasteness and cleanliness as a dangerous vice, which did exist into Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) and His believers, and which was a best attribute of human being, whereas, they gave preference to their impurity and obscene act contrary to the chastity. It appears that their sense had been turned over entirely.

It is commanded that the nation of Lot (peace be upon Him) had no any definite answer and began to talk with irrelevant. When no answer is seen by the human being, he begins to abuse reciprocal and even does not miss beating. Therefore, if someone is using insulting language or being prepared for beating, then one should consider that he has been defeated by his opponent in the field of sense, and does not see his freedom in anything save abusive behavior and quarreling. Brawl and scuffles is hundred percent sign of defeat. The people of Lot (peace be upon Him) were annoyed from His preaching and said: Turn them out of your township and from among you.

This kind of answer was given to Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) by His people too. They had acknowledged all lost in discussion also because they decided that He (peace be upon Him) should be thrown into the fire.

This result comes out from it that the individual, who gets ready to punish any exciter of any matter, for example; beat, exile or imprison, then it should be considered that the exciter is true and that person, who is going to give him punishment, has accepted his defeat in debate, otherwise, if he would have anyone argument or proof of his truth, certainly he would have produced it and caused to understand his opponent.

How homosexuality began in the folk of Lot?

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) made the people of Sodom to understand and at that time He said: You commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you. The Commentators felt the need of finding out: How this evil was started and how the attention of human being was engaged towards this absurd and bad act?

The tracers of the human history told them that the land of Sodom and in its surroundings was a fertile territory. Gardens of fruit were in huge abundance. There was no deficiency of the commodities of food and the people used to live in very comfortable circumstances. They used to fulfill their every desire freely and thoughtlessly. It is easy to draw attention of the prosperous and thoughtless people towards the sexual gratification.

Satan, who remains in search of occasions every time to `ruin the mankind, got very good opportunity to seduce. He caused to incline the people towards the means of boiling up carnal appetite by turning their thoughts from good works and hobbies. And they began to remain engaged in the matters of getting excited their hot. Although, such thought could not be produced in their hearts regarding unnaturally destruction of the essence of a man. It is said that the Devil misled them by means of an unusual trick and arranged to remove the human race from its foundation.

The trouble was that the man got ready to destroy himself in such a way. His sense did not work. Neither he could think that it was a vicious and obscene act and nor there was any chance to draw his attention unto its deadly results. Everyone knows that bad work spreads like fire and dust storm. And whosoever comes in their striking, they leave it burnt or throw on the ground violently. The people of Sodom came in the trick of Satan and arranged for themselves to be ruined. We should learn many useful lessons from it:

·         Such kind of obscene act cannot be thought by the mankind at its own, until the Devil misguides him by means of any new way. Therefore, we should continue trying to be saved from our ancient enemy.

·         Trick of the Devil operates upon the young, thoughtless and bellyful people immediately, so the young should remain engaged every time in useful hard works. They should bear in mind always that He (Allah Almighty) has been looking them every time Who created them in this world and Who has bestowed these entire favors, and at the end, He will take an account from everyone that: Whether Our given powers and things for pleasure and enjoyment have been used properly or otherwise? He (God Almighty) will punish the evil doers.

·         Excess and greed should not be in eating. One should remain away from lustful thoughts, hobbies, games and disgusting talks. One should practise; how to live during hunger. Every desire rises when it is raised up, and sets, when it is suppressed. Absurd words, abusive language, obscene songs, dancing, twisting and modulation, erotic novels and fables, and unreasonable eating and drinking are the things, which stir up the desire, so, one should be saved from them, otherwise, one will be ill-treated at the time of death and after death.

·         The human being cannot be satisfied in the world by fulfilling own desires badly. Passion ends in minutes and seconds, but after that, its bad results pursue closely in spite of everything, and become cause of torment always, without intention of true repentance and abstinence, and forthcoming pedigrees suffer the trouble due to their bad results.

Commentary
When Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) said to the people of Sodom: You commit abomination such as no creature ever did before you. It seems that they would not have understood about; what have they wronged? As though; this evil had become so public into them that they had lost this perception that it was an evil.

Therefore, Lot (peace be upon Him) had to explain it. But He (peace be upon Him) thought: How can I explain it, because while this evil was never committed earlier, then it is manifest that the words for this evil had not been in use. Suppose! if even the words for it did exist, it could not be in the power of any decent man to describe about such disgusting thing in straight words with the tongue.

Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) did not know that nature of those people had been distorted so badly that they were unable to understand the depravity of this worst evil with simply indication. It was incumbent to cause to know them because He (peace be upon Him) was commanded by Allah Almighty to do so.

Being helpless, Lot (peace be upon Him) said to those evil spirit people: At the time of ardor of the natural desire of copulation, for fulfilling of which with natural way, you had to see the woman, whereas you commit sexual intercourse with the men like you (sodomy). It is breach of the default rule and getting out of the limit of humanity. Its result can be nothing but ruin and destruction.

That individual, who goes out by breaking the limits of human nature, he is his own assassin, being his end bad, is necessary and a prerequisite. Have you lost entirely your senses that you commit such indecent, filthy and cluttered works? Committing such evil is just like tyrannizing upon the human genealogy, cutting its root and finishing the train of Adam (peace be upon Him), for whom, these entire things have been created. Thus committing so, against the desire of entire creatures’ Creator, is rebelling against Allah Almighty.

If this happens, then it is not possible that any individual may live more after breaking the Command of God, the Holy One. The first stroke of this unclean spirit work affects the domestic life badly. While the man would not desire his wife, then surely, her looking after and warm reception would be different. First of all, their children would not be born, however, if their children are born, full attention would not be given on their fostering and education.

Secondly, it is not known that; what the wife will do in reaction of her husband’s disregard, being broken hearted, due to which, they will lose each other. Certainly, this evil can be cause of destruction and removal of the human race, and it is equal to the collection of many major sins due to their relationship. And it is the biggest calamity that wherever this evil begins, it spreads very fast. May God Almighty protect us from this disobedience and grant us His Guidance for living according to His Will.

80.  Wa  Luu-tan  ‘iz  qaala  liqaw-mihiii  ‘ata’-tuunal-faahishata  maa  sabaqa-kum  bihaa  min  ‘ahadim-minal-‘aalamiin.

Commentary
Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) is Messenger of Allah Almighty. He was nephew of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Them). When Abraham left His idolater and sculptor father named Azir and migrated from Iraq to Syria, Lot migrated along with Him also to Syria. Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) slighted in Palestine and Lot (peace be upon Him) went to Jordan. Then Allah Almighty sent His Message unto Him and directed to reach Sodom, which was the name of a city of Jordan. Allah Almighty sent Him towards the inhabitants of the outskirts of that city, so that, the bad habit of those people might be discontinued from them by warning.

Qaw-mihiii  - (His folk, tribe, nation), it aims “the people of Sodom and villages in its vicinity” who had become habitual of an evil.

‘Al-faahishata – this word has been derived from fahash, which means “to be opened, to become public”. Two words have been made from it: ‘al-faahishah and ‘al-fah-shaaa’, which are used for “lewdness openly, shamelessness, to be lost to all sense of honor, committing sins without any hesitation”.

Such filthy evil had spread publicly in the residents of Sodom, which was shameless and against the nature, and which was invented by them (sodomy – a carnal copulation against nature). This evil was neither learnt by them from any other, nor anyone committed it before them and nor they looked someone committing so. Even that the animals did never commit this evil, because they fulfill their natural desires in the same manner as the Wisdom has prescribed the way to fulfill it. Contrary to it, they can never think. However, humankind is such an existence, who can break the natural fashions. Therefore, there are more supplies/equipment of his destruction in the world than animals. Generally, maximum destruction of animals is due to external motives and disasters, but internal disasters exist too to finish the human being, besides external reasons and disasters, which are result of the inundation of his powerful desires.

Those entire parts have to do any work, which exist in the human body, as eyes are for looking, feet are for walking etc. and naturally every limb is fond of doing own work. If desires of all members of the body are collected, the name of this collection would be “Nafs” (the breath, the soul, the spirit, the self-desire etc.). The Nafs wants complete independence to fulfill its fondness. The religion and the morality impose restrictions on the Nafs. The name of those restrictions is religion and civilization. Whenever, the Nafs breaks those restrictions by violence, then corruption, tyranny, disorder and mischief spread. Murder, unfair dealing and adultery etc. are the same kinds of mischief, due to which, human society is ruined.

The people of Sodom adopted a new kind of violence. They established such natural relationship with boys, which were required to be conducted with female (women) only. It was the reason that many depravities were born in the society and family system began to ruin. Allah Almighty sent specially Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) unto that nation for preventing them from this new evil.

Learn from circumstances of ancient people

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Islam is neither the name of only some formal Divine worships like prayer, fasting, pilgrimage and paying the poor-due, and nor the right of Islam is paid only by the preachers conveying overly large sermons and the public have to listen to them, and then both groups begin to do their  own work. Contrary to this, Islam is that “everyone should be engaged in performing good works every time for the mankind sincerely and compassionately”.

We got through the circumstances of past three nations in the previous lessons. It is to consider:  What were evil deeds of those people for which, the Messengers (peace be upon Them) were sent unto them, and desired to remove? And what were the reasons due to which they did not obey their Prophets (peace be upon Them) and Their disobedient suffered from heavenly and earthly disasters?

Mutual evil among those three nations was that they used to consider that everything is only own physical strength, wealth and property and to command other people. They were unable to view above the rank and grandeur of this world. It was the result that mighty people desired to keep everything under their control and used to take hard work from the subordinates. Then they used to put them off after paying them more or less but not according to their labor. And they used to be addicted to pleasure with the earnings of their hard labor.

It was not teaching of Prophet Adam (peace be upon Him). The caste had no value among His people. There was no sign of stratification in humans. Entire human beings used to fall prostrate before Allah Almighty accepting Him their Creator and Lord. And they used to spend the production of their hard working according to their capacity in accord with their necessities by sharing with one another.

When they forgot Allah Almighty, then arbitrary gods took His place and the equation departed with the same. Quarrels began along with the Schism. They began to enjoy by seizing the needful things. The people were being treated according to the proverb “Might is right”. Bold people became the high ranking and the simple were pushed down.

The Messengers (peace be upon Them) caused to understand them: Behold! The world is not always an identical. Major destructive and deadly accidents may occur in it any time. You cannot arrange to be saved during extremes of life. The rich and the watchmen of their splendor were induced by hearing these words and they said: What is the dare of anyone that he may hurt us? We have power; equipage, obedient servants and we are ready for every accident. We wish to see him who treats us with crooked eye.

You observed: How the people of high class were corrupted? If anyone heard the sayings of the Messengers (peace be upon Them), he/she belonged to low class, poor and insolvent community. The three Messengers (peace be upon Them) tried their best that the rebellious people should refrain from their airs and get ready collectively for escaping from forthcoming danger being brothers of one another altogether.

Prophet Noah (peace be upon Him) knew that a storm of water is coming very soon. Prophet Hud (peace be upon Him) was cautious about the forthcoming dust storm. Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) was aware of coming the earthquake. But there was only one form of being saved from those disasters, which was: the people suffering from arrogance should give up their bragging. They should believe that Allah, the Most High; is most Powerful and Omnipotent, and they entire should try collectively to obey Him, so that being pleased He remove the wrath from them.

It is obvious from these incidents that immoral people are seen involved in haughtiness and they do not like to sit with the public or join the common people equally in any matter, whenever any big calamity has to come. And accepting the religion by poor people becomes cause of their distance from the religion.

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

77.  So they hamstrung the she-camel, and they flouted the commandment of their Lord, and they said: O Salih! Bring upon us that thou threatenest if thou art indeed of those (from Allah).

78.  So the earthquake seized them, and morning found them prostrate in their dwelling place.

79.  Then he (Salih) turned from them and said: O my people! I delivered my Lord’s message unto you and gave you good advice, but ye love not good advisers.
77.  Fa-‘aqarun-Naaqata  wa  ‘ataw  ‘an  ‘amri  Rabbihim  wa qaaluu  yaa-Saalihu’-tinaa  bimaa  ta-‘idunaaa  ‘in kunta  minal-mursaliin.

Commentary
‘Aqaruu – {They (hamstrung, cut tendons of the thighs to make she-camel lame)}, it is past tense, which has been derived from ‘aqar (to cut the heels), at first the feet of camel are cut, then it is killed with the spear from its chest and it falls down immediately.

‘Ataw – {they (flouted, mocked, sneered)}, it is past tense also and has been derived from the word ‘atuw-wun. ‘Atuw-wun means “to disobey, to rebel”.

Rajfatun – (earthquake), actually it means “to move or shake severely, to tremble). Here it aims “earthquake”. That was very severe earthquake and before it, there was a sound of thunder.

Jaasimiin – (fallen prostrate), this word is plural of jaasim, which has been derived from the word jasuum. Jasuum means “to fall down on the ground being helpless”.

It is commanded that the chieftains of the tribe of Thamud did not care for the Commandments, conveyed by Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) and hamstrung the she-camel and disobeyed the Order of their Lord and then said to their Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) with insistence: We have done our work. Bring upon us now that from which you threaten if you are indeed a Messenger.

At last, a very severe earthquake came and a sound like loud thunder was heard along with it. Those disobedient people fell prostrate on the earth in their houses in such a way as the quadruped animals put their mouth and neck on the ground at the time of sleeping.

Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) left that place being sorrowful on their condition and disclosed His sorrow in these words: O my people! I delivered your Lord’s message unto you and left no stone un-turned to give you good advice. But you did not recognize the value of your good advisers.

76.  Qaalal-laziinas-tak-baruuu  ‘innaa  billaziii  ‘aaman-tum-  bihii  kaafi-ruun.

Commentary
The folks of Prophets Noah and Hud (peace be upon Them) did not demand any miracle from their Messengers. The first nation (of Noah) did not attend Him saying: You have gone astray. The second nation ‘Aad (the tribe of Hud) continued their work of mocking Him and saying Him unwise.

But the tribe Thamud called for an extraordinary thing from their Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) and considered that He (peace be upon Him) will not be able to do it and they will set free His Command. They could not understand that the human being cannot get rid so easily after coming in the world.

There is only one form of escaping that one should believe and obey the Messengers (peace be upon Them). If one will run upon the paths self-invented by giving up the Guidance of Messengers, certainly, he will suffer its retribution in the world later or sooner, as well as, be answerable on the Day of Resurrection also.

The foolish people of Thamud demanded from Salih (peace be upon Him): A she-camel should come out from this mountain. It was not difficult for the Omnipotence of Allah Almighty. The she-camel came out and they were involved in difficulty. Now they were responsible for its food and safety.

There was not sufficient quantity of food and water for the cattle in the mountain area. The she-camel used to dissipate entire feed and water, and their own cattle etc. remained hungry. However, necessitous people derived benefit that the milk of she-camel was in sufficient quantity for them.

It is commanded that when the chieftains saw the public that they have believed in Prophet Salih (peace be upon Him) and now they were prosperous, they asked from the people: Do you consider that the claim of Salih (peace be upon Him) is true that He is a Messenger sent by Allah Almighty? They replied: Observing so much big proof, you have known too that He is a Messenger (peace be upon Him), but you are fraud, whereas we like the truth. We have faith in His Sayings sincerely and believe that verily He (peace be upon Him) is Messenger of Allah Almighty. No answer was visible from those disobedient chieftains, but they tried to frighten in the presumption of their chieftainship and said: Believe then. Your belief will be nothing. Salih (peace be upon Him) cannot succeed as far as we don’t accept Him. Listen! We do not accept His every word.
