Commentary
Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) is Messenger of Allah Almighty. He was nephew of Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Them). When Abraham left His idolater and sculptor father named Azir and migrated from Iraq to Syria, Lot migrated along with Him also to Syria. Prophet Abraham (peace be upon Him) slighted in Palestine and Lot (peace be upon Him) went to Jordan. Then Allah Almighty sent His Message unto Him and directed to reach Sodom, which was the name of a city of Jordan. Allah Almighty sent Him towards the inhabitants of the outskirts of that city, so that, the bad habit of those people might be discontinued from them by warning.

Qaw-mihiii  - (His folk, tribe, nation), it aims “the people of Sodom and villages in its vicinity” who had become habitual of an evil.

‘Al-faahishata – this word has been derived from fahash, which means “to be opened, to become public”. Two words have been made from it: ‘al-faahishah and ‘al-fah-shaaa’, which are used for “lewdness openly, shamelessness, to be lost to all sense of honor, committing sins without any hesitation”.

Such filthy evil had spread publicly in the residents of Sodom, which was shameless and against the nature, and which was invented by them (sodomy – a carnal copulation against nature). This evil was neither learnt by them from any other, nor anyone committed it before them and nor they looked someone committing so. Even that the animals did never commit this evil, because they fulfill their natural desires in the same manner as the Wisdom has prescribed the way to fulfill it. Contrary to it, they can never think. However, humankind is such an existence, who can break the natural fashions. Therefore, there are more supplies/equipment of his destruction in the world than animals. Generally, maximum destruction of animals is due to external motives and disasters, but internal disasters exist too to finish the human being, besides external reasons and disasters, which are result of the inundation of his powerful desires.

Those entire parts have to do any work, which exist in the human body, as eyes are for looking, feet are for walking etc. and naturally every limb is fond of doing own work. If desires of all members of the body are collected, the name of this collection would be “Nafs” (the breath, the soul, the spirit, the self-desire etc.). The Nafs wants complete independence to fulfill its fondness. The religion and the morality impose restrictions on the Nafs. The name of those restrictions is religion and civilization. Whenever, the Nafs breaks those restrictions by violence, then corruption, tyranny, disorder and mischief spread. Murder, unfair dealing and adultery etc. are the same kinds of mischief, due to which, human society is ruined.

The people of Sodom adopted a new kind of violence. They established such natural relationship with boys, which were required to be conducted with female (women) only. It was the reason that many depravities were born in the society and family system began to ruin. Allah Almighty sent specially Prophet Lot (peace be upon Him) unto that nation for preventing them from this new evil.
