Laziness at the time of necessity is worse -1 - Quran Chapter 9 – 38 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1184) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 9 – 38 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1184) - درس قرآن

Laziness at the time of necessity is worse -1

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

38.  O ye who believe! What aileth you that when it is said unto you: Go forth in the Way of Allah, ye are bowed down to the ground with heaviness. Take ye pleasure in the life of the world rather than in the Hereafter? The provision of the life of the world is but little than in the Hereafter.
38.  Yaaa-‘ayyu-hallaziina  ‘aamanuu  maa  lakum  ‘izaa  qiila  lakumunfiruu  fii  Sabii-LIllaahis-saaqal-tum  ‘ilal—‘arz.  ‘A-raziitum-  bil-hayaa-tid-dunyaa  minal-‘Aakhirah.  Famaa  mataa-‘ul-hayaa-tid-dunyaa  fil-‘Aakhirati  ‘illaa  qaliil.

Commentary

‘Anfiruu – (Go forth), it is a word of command from the word nafara. Nafara means “to proceed, to depart, to be ready quickly for going”.

‘As-saaqal-tum – (you bow down with heaviness), the origin of this word is ’is-saaqal-tum, which is a changed form of saa-qal. It has been derived from the word saqala, which is a famous word and which means “a load, burden”. ’Is-saaqulun means “to bow down being burdened”.

Mataa-‘un – (the provision), except gold and silver, all things, which are held in the world for rest and ease of the human being, are called “mataaa’”.

Those people, who meditate in whatsoever has been described in this Surah (Chapter) and the Surah before it, can understand easily the meaning of Jihad (to try and strive, Muhammadan Religious War, the Crusade) and they have no doubt in it that Jihad means “to try for correction of the humankind according to the Commands of God Almighty; by accepting that He is the greatest Lord of all, and along with it; to endeavor to show oneself as a pattern of own conduct, personal deeds and manners”. The war is necessary at that time when any person or nation interrupts in the way of the correctness of the humankind; being proud, haughty and arrogant.

Therefore, an ambassador of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) proceeded unto the Arabian Christians Ruler at the boundary of Syria for conveying the teachings of Islam. In the way, any one of the Christians killed that Ambassador. The Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) sent a group of Army, for admonition of the Christians, to take revenge of such unreasonable conduct.

To fight against that Muslim group of Army, the entire Christians of Syria and the people of Caesar of Rome, under whose command were these Syrian Christians, rulers of Arab, assembled. Fighters of the Christians, who came forward in the battlefield; were about one hundred thousand and in the Muslim Army; there were only three thousand soldiers. They faced to one another in the Battlefield of Motah.

This incident was happened in 8th HijraKhalid bin Walid and Amru bin Aas (May Allah Almighty be pleased with them) had embraced Islam during that year before this event. And Khalid bin Waliid (May Allah Almighty be pleased with him) had joined that group of Muslim Army.

Summary of last two verses - Quran Chapter 9 – 37 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1183) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 9 – 37 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1183) - درس قرآن

Summary of last two verses

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

The only purpose of wars in the world is that often the people turn away from that Path or Religion; which has been prescribed by Him; Who is Creator of the entire universe, and every nation determines own separate way of life by its own judgment, and then it desires to reprove it on others by violence.

It is committed in such way that the leaders, spiritual guides and chieftains of every nation become selfish, whereas their common people begin to follow them without thinking and deliberating; considering that they are scholars, rabbis and monks. More efficient people of them get religious decrees; which are beneficial to them only, by giving them offerings, presenting gifts, oblations and bribes. And on the power of those decrees, they exercise authority, whereas the scholars become their obedient servants and flatterers only.

When Islam was introduced, at that time, it came in the grip of such people. The idolaters of Arab had metamorphosed their celestial religion totally from good to bad. And then their leaders were only to command them. These leaders used to care only for their own benefits and sway, and get ready to be in power. The common people were in their clutch.

The Jews and the Christians had kept up the names of their celestial religion. They would not have to fight against the Muslims. But their selfish people had nearly effaced the religion; and desired to lay but to stake upon their persistence. Therefore, they also began to oppose the Muslims. Then the Muslims were commanded that it was necessary for them to fight, for their Organization, against all selfish people; until they abstain from stubbornness and mischief, and let them do their work of human correction without let or hindrance.

It has been caused to understand in above two verses that there is no difference between the idolaters and the people of the Scripture. Both have marred the Religion of God Almighty and fixed to make the things lawful or unlawful at their own judgment. Some people have spread over others with their wealth, property and personal influence. The ignorant and the scholars (all of them) have begun to praise them falsely.

The scholars change the Commands of God Almighty with big plans. It seems that they are great religious, but in fact; they are the utterly destroyers of the religion. There is no attribute into them save the desire of dignity and the selfishness. Therefore, there is no way but to fight and seize them. However, if they begin to go straight and remove their faults, then you can join them, otherwise no!

37.  Postponement (of a sacred month) is only an excess of disbelief whereby those who disbelieve are misled; they allow it one year and forbid it (another) year, that they may make up the number of the months which Allah hath hollowed, so that they allow that which Allah hath forbidden. The evil of their deeds is made fair-seeming unto them. And Allah guideth not the disbelieving folk.
37.  ‘Inna-mannasiii-‘u  ziyaadatun-  fil-kufri  yu-zallu  bihillaziina  kafaruu  yuhilluu-nahuu  ‘aamanw-wa  yuharri-muuna-huu  ‘aamal-li-yuwaati-‘uu  ‘id-data  maa  harra-mAllaahu  fa-yuhilluu  maa  harramAllaah..  Zuy-yina  lahum  suuu-‘u  ‘a’-maalihim.  WAllaahu  laa  yahdil-  qawmal-Kaafiriin.

Commentary

Nasiii-‘un – it is an origin, which means “to postpone, to recapture anything from its place”. Here; it aims, that tradition, which was introduced by the influential chieftains of the Arab before Islam. That is to say; they used to replace the forbidden month behind to the allowed month. For example, the month of Muharram is a forbidden month, they used to change it at the place of the next month i.e. Saffar, and used to say: in this year, the month of Saffar will be considered as forbidden month instead of Muharram, and the month of Muharram will be considered as “allowed”.

Yuwaati-‘uu – {(they) make up}, this word is from mu-waati-‘atun, which has been derived from wat-‘un. Wat-‘un means “to make easy, to mollify”. Mu-waati-‘atun means “ to make a thing corresponding to the other”. Here; it aims “God Almighty had determined four months of a year “as forbidden”. They kept their counting the same i.e. four months. But whenever they wished, they used to replace them with one another, keeping the counting of four forbidden months equal.

In the verse before this, God’s appointed number of months was described. There were four such months among the twelve, in which war, fighting or quarrel was particularly forbidden. Those were called Haraam months i.e. Rajab, Zi-qa’d, Dhul-Hajjah and Muharram.

Sometimes, any great leader used to order: Fighting is allowed in this year during the month of Muharram. In exchange, the month of Saffar will be forbidden. Like this, forbidden months were changed from their routine by the command of the chieftains. It meant that the idolaters fixed the command of their leaders obligatory; instead of the command of God Almighty. It is commanded in this verse: Changing the months from their routine is only an excess; produced by the infidels and it is disobedience of the Commands of Allah Almighty.

Division of the Times -2 - Quran Chapter 9 – 36 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1181) - درس قرآن

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

It is commanded that, on which day; God Almighty created the heavens and the earth, with effect from that day, He has determined a simple way of counting and computing the days, the months and the years etc. in which there is no need of any difficult calculation of the time frame, whether someone is learned or illiterate. Everyone can see the moon. Its rising, setting, increasing or decreasing is obvious upon all.

After disappearing, the moon appears in the form of a crescent. After that, it increases, then decreases and at last, it disappears. Then it appears again in the form of a crescent and so, the next lunar month begins. According to this calculation, “a year of twelve months” has been established by Allah Almighty. And upon it, seasons and times of performing the worships by the mankind, celebrating the festivals and obeying other commands of God Almighty depend.

In the Religion of Abraham, which was spread in the Arab by means of Ishmael, the son of Abraham (peace be upon Them), four months, out of twelve months were prescribed as sacred months (for peace and safety of all). During those months, the war or quarrel was no more; every person was allowed to visit every place without any kind of threat or fear and meet with everyone mutually.

It was an introduction of establishing a common rule of peaceful dwelling, because not only in the Arab, but in the entire world, the people had to do nothing but quarreling with one another. Particularly the Arabian people were very famous as quarrelsome and they used to seek very little evasions for quarreling. Due to the Religion of Abraham, they got opportunity of prevention from war and quarrels, plundering and evil deeds for four months. They used to respect these four months.

Islam also preserved this constitution, but commanded along with it too: If quarrelsome people evade and do not care about the sanctity of these months, and come out for fighting, then you should fight against them unhesitatingly. They will be held responsible of breaking the sanctity. You have been performing a human duty only. Therefore there is no blame on you.

However, you must be more careful during these four months; that any error is not committed, and try your best for your internal purity and cleanliness, particularly during these days, and keep up that sanctity; which was established in the Religion of Abraham (peace be upon Him). God Almighty is with them and helps them who avoid committing evils, act carefully and cautiously. After that it is commanded that you should wage war on the entire mischievous idolaters, in which the People of the Scripture are also included, collectively being all of you united, because they all become united also against you, and put their mutual differences aside.

Commentary

‘Al-Qay-yimu – (the Right, Straight, Mighty), the origin of this word is Qawm, which means “to stand straight”. Any group of people is also called “Qawm”, because qawm (a nation), group or community is a medium of making the circumstances straight and established. Qay-yim is an adjective, which means “a strong and straight thing” also as well as, which strengthens and straightens the other thing. Here, the aim from this word is - first meaning.

Kaaaf-fatan – (fully, totally), this word was discussed in Surah ‘Al-Baqarah. Its origin is k-f-f, which means “to take hold”. When a group or nation becomes so united that its every member becomes supporter of every other person and a part of the group, and then all those people work together, then it is called “working with collective strength. In Arabic language, such condition is disclosed by saying Kaaaf-fatan.

In the previous verses, it has been being described since long that the Jews and the Christians have damaged their religion, and chosen the way established by their elders, leaving the Way of God Almighty. This is a Command, which they broke.

Order about wealth and property - Quran Chapter 9 – 35 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1179) - درس قرآن

Quran Chapter 9 – 35 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1179) - درس قرآن

Order about wealth and property

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

The mania of hoarding money, wealth and property is mounted on the people since long. And nowadays; everyone desires nothing but to collect these things. This is a kind of madness, which has crossed the limits. Some very learned people say: Islam did not prevent any person from earning money, described only that you should pay the poor-due regularly @ 2-1/2%. Then, you can collect as much as you wish, there is no restriction. Every individual is free for earning, he can earn according to own will, however paying the poor-due is necessary. Then he can enjoy.

It is known after consideration that it is not the Spirit of Holy Qur-‘aan and the teachings of the Sayings of Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Those people; who consider as mentioned above, their aim is “Earn the money well and eat, so that; you may be able to pay the poor-due and deserve the future reward of this virtue”, as paying the Poor-due and Pilgrimage were for persuading of hoarding.

The simple fact is that the money is for fulfilling own requirements, for example grains and clothes etc. Actual object is not money itself but a source of providing necessities of life. Therefore, every human being would have to receive easily as much money, by paying which, he may get the things of his comfort smoothly.

How must everyone receive this money? The way of it is that he should do any work or labor for welfare of other people, and as its compensation, he must be provided money in accordance with his requirement. It is the Code of Islam about the labor; that every person should work hard according to his ability, for providing advantage to the society. Moreover, he should not intend to earn money, but think that “I have been working for providing advantage to my other brothers, only for the sake of God Almighty”.

After that, it is the duty of those people, who appointed him for any work; that such person must be paid so much that he may pass his life comfortably at his leisure. This individual should spend this earning in his requirements without extravagance. This is his lawful earning. If some money has been saved from it, that should be sacrificed for the welfare of any other. And he may deposit it also. When this deposit reaches the capital of paying the poor-due, then he should pay it, which will be spent by the Government for help and support of the crippled, the helpless and the poor people. If even then, something is saved, then he should perform Hajj (Pilgrimage), on the condition that he has fulfilled other terms.

Which method of hoarding the wealth is in force nowadays, in which one has to tyrannize and plunder others, it is against the Spirit of Islam. With it; the money is deposited in a few hands, remaining people desire anxiously for necessary thing. From such wealth, the Poor-due, Hajj, and Alms etc. nothing is accepted by God Almighty, because this way is full of tyranny and oppression.

Burden of the wealth

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

35.  On the Day when it will (all) be heated in the fire of Hell, and their foreheads and their flanks and their backs will be branded therewith (and it will be said unto them): Here is that which ye hoarded for yourselves; now taste of what ye used to hoard.
35.  Yawma  yuhmaa  ‘alay-haa  fii  Naari  Jahannama  fatukwaa  bihaa  jibaahu-hum  wa  junuu-buhum  wa  zuhuuruhum.  Haazaa  maa  kanaztum  li-‘anfu-sikum  fa-zuuquu  maa  kuntum  taknizuun.

Commentary

Yuhmaa – (will be ignited), this word is from ham-yun, which means “sharpening of the fire rapidly”. The aim from the word yuhmaa is that “the fire of Hell will be sharpened on the hoarded wealth”.

Tukwaa – (will be branded), the origin of this word is kay-yun, which means “making a mark on the body by a hot iron piece”. That is to say; to heat up anything so much that it becomes red, then put it on the body, by which a burning mark appears on the body.

Summary of this verse is “The Saying of God’s Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), which is often repeated in the Sermon of Friday i.e. ‘Al-kanzu  kay-yum-minan-Naar. (It aims that the treasure will be just like an iron piece, which will be heated up to the point of redness and then body of the hoarder will be branded with it).

It means that in this world, everyone has made it (hoarding the wealth) his biggest occupation, and being entangled in its love, some people are seen enjoying themselves apparently, although, in fact, they suffer, but against their wealth, they slight their sufferings. Verily, if you consider the fact, you will observe that in the world too, the riches and the wealth causes worries, even that sometimes, hunger, thirst and sleep etc. disappear in its worry, even that, one has no hope of life. Moreover, after death, this wealth will be useless save giving pain.

To experience, a man should keep a penny on his palm after making it red on the fire. That penny will brand on his palm. After that he must meditate: The entire gold and silver etc. which he has hoarded; will be heated in the fire of the Hell, not in the ordinary fire of this world, then it will be placed on the body of the rich, and it will not be removed until it becomes cold. When it will become cold then, again it be heated and placed on the body. And this practice will be continued. What will he feel at that time?

Mufasseriin (the commentators) have explained that if you say to any miser for giving some money for a good work, then at first, he will be angry. If you say again and again, then he will turn away and evade. Therefore, these three body parts will be branded i.e. forehead, flank and back. If you desire to be saved from the torment, then you should not hoard but spend in the Way of God Almighty.
