Commentary
Badr  - The first battle between Islam and Infidelity was fought on
17th Ramadan 2 AH. In the battlefield of Badr, a handful number of Muslims
got such graceful victory that the spine of infidelity was broken. The Infidels
judged first time about the strength of the Muslims. ‘Antum
‘azillah  (you were contemptible). At that time, strength of
Muslims was 313 (three hundred and thirteen only) including old, young, little
(boys) and elder, who might be able to fight. They all did not have even proper
weapons to fight. This entire Army had only 70 (seventy) camels and two horses.
The swords and lances of some of the persons were broken. Even that, some
persons were carrying only staffs of the date trees for proceeding to the
crusade.
Some crusaders of
Islam were such persons, who were not able to fight due to their age and
height, and the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace
be upon him) wished that they should not go in the battlefield. But after observing
their longing, he (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon him) was compelled
to let them permit to go.
The Battle
These one thousand
Army Personnel, Intoxicated with power, assaulted three hundred and thirteen
Muslims. But in the first assault this great multitude was compelled to
surrender. Their seventy persons were slain and the Muslims arrested the same
numbers. Those overcame who were weak and those were disgraced who were
powerful.
This verse contains very great lesson in itself to
satisfy the injured Muslims of the Battle
