Remembering Allah during affliction

Surah ‘Al-‘An-‘aam (Cattle) – Chapter – 6)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

40.  Say: Can ye see yourselves, if the punishment of Allah’s torment were to come upon you or the Hour come upon you. Would ye then call (for help) to any other than Allah? (Answer that) if ye are truthful.

41.  Nay, but unto Him ye call, and He removeth the affliction for which ye call unto Him if He will, and ye forget whatever partners ye set up (unto Him).
40.  Qul  ‘ara-‘aytakum  ‘in  ‘ataakum  ‘azaabUllaahi  ‘aw  ‘atatkumus-Saa-‘atu  ‘a-gayrAllaahi  tad-‘uun.  ‘In  kuntum  saadiqiin.

41.  Bal  ‘iyyaahu  tad-‘uuna  fayak-shifu  maa  tad-‘uuna  ‘ilayhi  ‘in-shaaa-‘a  wa  tan-sawna  maa  tush-rikuun.

Commentary

Summary of the previous lesson was that the human being forgets his Creator (Allah Almighty) due to worldly desires, greed and selfishness, and these entire calamities besiege him as a darkness. In these darkness, neither anything discriminates himself, nor he hears other people’s admonition and nor he asks from anyone else.

Forgetting own Creator is utmost negligence. It is true that the desires and selfishness make a mankind deaf, dumb and blind. It has been commanded in this verse that whenever any affliction falls suddenly upon the human being, then he loses his sense and forgets those desires, to which he had made his gods and worshipped. At that time, he sees nothing except Allah Almighty. Then he calls his Creator rash, and if He will, removes his affliction.

It is the form of despair that whenever humankind either does not find any helper or supporter, or all his supporters and relatives deny helping him, then he turns toward Allah Almighty and begs verbally and heartily. In this situation, entire human beings begin to call their Creator and Lord Almighty aloud in their own languages.

Allah Almighty addresses His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him): Say (to the disbelievers)! If the punishment of Allah’s torment were to come upon you today (Let us flee to Allah) or the Hour of the Resurrection come upon you, which is the biggest affliction, then Answer them! if you are truthful, Would you call (for help) to your these false gods other than Allah?

Nay, but at that time, your eyes will be opened and you will begin to call only that Actual God Almighty, Who is only One Worshipped and Whom you had forgotten. While it is usual also in the worldly small afflictions, then what can be said about the severest punishment of Allah’s torment of the Day of Judgment? Therefore, that person is wise, who knows Allah Almighty before time and accepts it that there is neither any supporter and nor remover of the affliction, whether that affliction is big or small except Allah Almighty. At last, the deliverance from all afflictions, pain and grief will be for such people.
