Commentary

YA’-TAZIRUUNA – {they (will make excuse)}, this word has been derived from ‘a’-tazaar, origin of which is ‘uzr. ‘Uzr means pretext, objection, excuse, an ostensible reason. ‘Uzr is produced for the purpose that he should not be angry; who ordered to perform any work.

Nabba-‘a – {he (has told tidings)}, it is past tense, which has come out from the word nabaa-‘un. Nabaa-‘un means “the tidings, the news”. From it; two verbs have been made – nabba-‘a and ‘an-baa-‘u, both means “to tell the tidings”.

‘Aalimul-gaybi  wash-shahaadati – (Knower of the Invisible and the Visible). Gayb is that thing which is unseen for the human being, and shahaadah means – open and visible things. It aims Allah Almighty (God), Who is Aware of all apparent and hidden things.

At the time of departure for the Battle of Tabuuk from Madinah, the Hypocrites requested God’s Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) to grant them leave from participation in the Battle by making false excuses. After that, when the Muslims returned from the Battle with victory, then the same Hypocrites came again unto the Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) for satisfying the Muslims.

It is commanded: When you returned from the Battle of Tabuuk, the Hypocrites came once again unto you bringing forth their false excuses. Say to them! Allah Almighty has told us your all circumstances. Now you should think about your future, because God Almighty knows all that which is in your hearts. Allah Almighty and His Messenger (SallAllaahu alayHi wa AaliHii Wasallam) will see your conduct and deeds in future. According to your behavior, you will be dealt with punishment or reward. After death; you will return unto Allah Almighty. He will put up before you your entire secrets and open matters.
