Quran Chapter 9 – 26 & 27 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1165) - درس قرآن

Satisfaction of the heart

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

26.  Then Allah sent His peace of reassurance down upon His Messenger and upon the Believers, and sent down hosts ye could not see, and punished those who disbelieved. And such is the reward of disbelievers.

27.  Then afterward Allah will relent toward whom He will. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
26.  Summa  ‘anza-lAllaahu  sakiina-tahuu  ‘alaa  RasuuliHii  wa  ‘alal-Mu’-miniina  wa  ‘an-zala  junuudal-lam-  tarawhaa-  wa  ‘azza-ballaziina  kafaruu.  Wa  zaalika  jazaaa-‘ul-kaafiriin.

27.  Summa  yatuu-bUllaahu  mim-ba’-di  zaalika  many-yashaaa’.  WAllaahu  Gafuurur-Rahiim.

Commentary

Sakiina-tah – (satisfaction, peace of reassurance), this word has been made of sa-ka-na, from which the words sakuun, saakin, maskan etc. have been derived. This word was discussed in Surah ‘Al-Baqarah. Maskan means “place of stay”. Sakiina – the thing with which commotion of the heart sets out and one feels satisfaction.

After the Battle of Uhud, Hunayn was second occasion that the Infidels besieged the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). At that time, four thousand Infidels, girded on enmity, had surrounded Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Maximum Muslims had been dispersed being confused by Infidels’ archery. Only a few men had been remained with the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), out of which, there were His paternal uncle named Abbas and sons of His other uncle Abu Sufyan (may God be pleased with them). The arrows were raining from all around. But the heart of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) was absolutely fearless. Allah Almighty had strengthened His heart. Later on, Abbas (may God be pleased with him) called out aloud to the Muslims: Where do you go? Come to this side. As soon as the Muslims heard his voice, they came running recklessly. And God Almighty produced peace of reassurance and comfort in their hearts.

It is commanded that the Muslims continued running for some time in the condition of much confusion. But eventually, that satisfaction of the heart, which was in the heart of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), penetrated into their hearts also. Allah Almighty sent down hidden forces for their help in the form of Angels (peace be upon them) which were not seen by their eyes, but they influenced their hearts.

Infidels were defeated, slaughtered and plundered. Certainly, this punishment was necessary for the rebellious people. After that, when fighting was over, then many fortunate people from the Infidels embraced Islam. God Almighty forgave their errors and sent His blessings on them. It has been taught in these verses that although effort and plant is necessary for every work, but the Trust must be in Allah Almighty only.

God’s Help

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

25.  Allah hath given you victory on many fields and on the day of Hunayn, when ye exulted in your multitude but it availed you naught, and the earth, vast as it is, was straitened for you; then ye turned back in flight.
25.  Laqad  nasara-kumUllaahu  fii  mawaa-tina  kasiiratinw-wa  yawma  Hunaynin,  ‘iz  ‘a’-jabatkum  kasra-tukum  falam  tugni  ‘ankum  shay-‘anw-wa  zaaqat  ‘alaykumul-  ‘arzu  bimaa  rahubat  summa  wallay-tum-mudbiriin.

Commentary

Mawaa-tina – (fields, places, occasions), this word is plural of maw-tan, origin of which is wa-ta-na. The word watan is also from the same, which means “dwelling” as well as place of living too, and such place, where something is situated. Therefore, it is used for the battle field also. Here it has the same meaning.

Yawma  Hunaynin – (the day of Hunayn), yawm means “the day”, and Hunayn is the name of a lower place of the earth, which is situated below the mountains. Such earth is called “Valley”. The aim from the words yawma  Hunaynin is “the day, when the Battle of Hunayn was fought. This place is in the way to Taif, near Makkah.

At the time of “the Conquest of Makkah”, manpower strength of Muslim Army was ten thousand. After the conquest of Makkah, it was known that Banu Hawazan and Banu Thaqif etc. the tribes of Taif have been prepared to fight a decisive war against Muslims by gathering their entire chieftains, women and children plus collecting their entire money.

Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) set on Taif along with His ten thousand men, to which two thousand those people joined, who were new Muslims, so then, their manpower strength was twelve thousand fighters, and they were very happy that they will defeat the enemy. Whereas, the strength of enemy’s Army was four thousand only.

From Taif, the tribes were advancing towards Makkah and they encountered the Muslim Army in the field of Hunayn at some distance from Makkah. The Muslims drove off the Infidels and began to plunder their spoils.

In the meantime, the archers of the Infidels, who were famous due to their skill, began to shoot arrows from above the mountains. The Muslims were confused and began to run away. Even that there were only ten soldiers remained with the Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

After all, Abbas (may God be pleased with him) called to the Muslims and they returned; as soon as they listened to his sound, and then the Infidels were defeated.

It has been shown in this verse that at the time of fight, victory depends on the help from Allah Almighty. Scarcity and excess of manpower and war equipment is nothing as it was proved in the Battle of Badr.

What is Islam? – 4

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

I don’t wish to leave this topic till the time, it does not become obvious for the Muslims in the light of Holy Qur-‘an that: What the Muslims should do nowadays. At least; we must try our best to understand it. It is possible that our effort may be fruitful for peace in the world.

It appears from above both Chapters that nowadays, there is no form of war for Muslims, because sounds are echoing in the world that freedom of opinion and religion is natural right of every human being. No one can fill his opinion or religion in any other’s mind with force. Along with it, this freedom is also being strengthened that no individual or group may use deceitful behavior, pressure, hidden or open threats for making their own traditions current or persuading by flattery or influence.

If the world has really conspired on these matters and it has been decided that every individual and nation is free to go on its own way, and every nation can arrange an organization of its matters according to its internal circumstances, and it can spread openly its judgment, and every group or community will watch the freedom of every individual collectively, then such root will be cut, due to which; burden of war was loaded on the head of Islam by force.

Islam lays stress on its followers and instructs them that they should never fight for any other purpose except the cause of preserving the freedom of human conscience. Thirteen years calamitous life of Muslims in Makkah is evident of it.

It can be understood from these Chapters that the Muslims can live peacefully with those people who do not fight Muslims because of the religion. Existence of the Muslims in human society is only for the purpose that they should give confidence to the hearts of the people with their behavior and manners that really, this nation is able to be followed.

It must be remembered that Islamic acts like “offering the prayer, fasting, paying the poor-due and performing the Pilgrimage (Hajj)” have been prescribed for the purpose that by means of them, we may learn to produce good habits into us. If this demand is not fulfilled by them then, either we did not understand the religion Islam correctly, or we took it as “the people should tremble from the name of Muslims”, whether their beliefs are good-for-nothing, deeds worthless and morality lowest.

Bear in mind! Threatening the human beings like this; is not the aim of Islam. Islam desires to teach that the Believers should compel the world to accept it by showing their manners and behavior; that if, some best and noblest people exist in the world, those are these “Muslims”. Otherwise these entire are only fables.

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Principle # 3.  The person, who will deny intentionally any of the matters mentioned in previous lesson or oppose it, and by his committing so, which loss or damage will be suffered by collective life, unity and peace, he will be treated legally.

Principle # 4.  Islamic community is ready every time for co-operation and alliance with all those human beings of the world; who are ready to co-operate with this community. No war will be fought against them in any condition, until they use force or violate improperly as the idolaters of Makkah committed in the beginning, whether its ways and sources are different.

Principle # 5.  Native country or nation etc. is a division of the population of the world for establishing the system easily. Islam welcomes them till the time; they agree upon the above mentioned Principles and these all things do not become cause of mutual unreasonable tyranny.

The way of earning the wealth and its distribution, Personal Property etc.

If earning method of wealth and its distribution is inflicting pain to the people, then it is duty of the Islamic Society that they should amend and correct the laws concerning this matter. Which nation is ready to amend and correct the laws unselfishly, Islamic community is ready to work along with them mutually, because there is no such command of Islam which prevents from doing good and the aim of which is cause of improvement of the common people. Moreover, Islam guides to join and help those people, who are engaged in such acts.

Those non-Muslims, who live together with Muslims with peace and reconciliation, these Muslims are also their compatriots and language-fellows, so they can be counted as their nation-fellow too. Neither they can molest them without grounds and nor they can fight them.

Above mentioned five Principles can be understood from these two Chapters i.e. Surah Baraaa-‘ah and previous to it Surah ‘Anfaal. Organization for Interior and Foreign relationships has been cleared and determined in it.

In fact, these are the principles, which were produced before the people of Makkah in the beginning, but they did not accept them due to their stupidity and ignorance. The Messenger of God Almighty has been commanded in the Holy Qur-‘aan: Say! I make an organization with you in the best way, provided; you give up mischief, perversion, only own pomp and show and narrow mindedness.

God Almighty commands in verse # 23 of Chapter 42 (Surah Shuuraa): Qul-laaa  ‘as-‘alukum  ‘alayhi  ‘ajran  ‘illal-mawaddata  fil-qurbaa. {Say (O Muhammad, unto mankind)! I ask of you no fee for it, save loving kindness among kinsfolk)}. That is to say; I do not demand from you any retaliation of my work. My only desire is that you must bear in mind mutual co-operation, relationship and neighborhood etc. and give up unreasonable opposing and molesting others.

Think for a while! These instructions are for them who have rejected Islam. Messenger of God Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) is ready to dwell with them and make an organization along with them.

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

Everyone must understand it well that according to the principle; prescribed by God Almighty, the meaning of Jihad fii SabiiLillaah is “A Human Organization”. Therefore, responsibility of human arrangement is imposed on the Believers of God Almighty and Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). The chieftains of the Idolaters of Makkah cast broken faith in this human organization. So the necessity of a separate human organization fell suddenly upon the Muslims in accordance with their own way, so that the mischievous and quarrelsome people might be seized with collective strength and effort for a human organization might be arranged.

Found out that the Muslims should arrange to organize themselves keeping in view that they would have to fulfill the responsibility of the organization of entire humankind in future. To meet this requirement, which principles have been explained in Holy Qur-‘aan, those have been caused to understand in Surah ‘Anfaal and particularly in this Surah (Tawbah), so that if the Muslims arranged to organize themselves according to these instructions, then they can arrange to organize the whole world easily. Those principles are as following:

Principle # 1.

To believe in God Almighty, His Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and the Day of Resurrection {its apparent signs are – offering prayer regularly, paying the poor-due properly, fasting and performing Pilgrimage (Hajj)}.

Principle # 2.

·         To accept that all the human beings are equal in accordance with their entire mutual duties and rights.

·         Adopting the tenet of co-operation in good works and separation from wicked and evil deeds.

·         To give freedom of thoughts and belief to every individual as these are his/her personal matters, on the condition that they should not be cause of interrupting in peace and ease including vexing any person in any case. One form of it is that no one can try to make faith-fellow and thought-fellow to any other individually or collectively, by tempting or forcibly. However, one can advice for good with gentleness and patience.

·         To develop human values, welfare works of the public, mutual peace and safety, and try to establish peace mutually.

·         To arrange for supporting the necessitous in advance and try to remove the poverty of the poor by every possible way.

Note:  Fancies of family, relationship, merchandise, wealth and property etc. cannot prevent the Muslims from performing their duties. Those people are members of Muslim community, who accept which is written above; honestly and sincerely. Their decisions will be united. Admitting them will be compulsory for all.

Quran Chapter 9 – 24 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1160) - درس قرآن

What is Islam? – 1

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

It is known from the previous verses that after believing in God Almighty and the Day of Resurrection, mostly command of jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah (Striving in the Way of God) has been strengthened in Islam. So it is very necessary to understand that “what is jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah?, because understanding the Islam correctly depends on understanding this command. Some detail about it has been described in previous lessons, but which command has been given in verse # 23 & 24, from it, all matter is obvious before the eyes.

It was commanded in verse # 23 of this chapter: You should not have special relationship with your fathers and brothers if they prefer the infidelity instead of Belief, because there is no hope from them save it that they prevent you as far as possible from the Way of God Almighty.

In the verse # 24, it is commanded: you should keep God Almighty, His last Messenger Muhammad (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah (Striving in the Way of God) at first priority from the entire things of the world. Which thing sets you free from above three matters; is that you should give it up and think about yourself, because those people who will not leave the worldly matters, they cannot move carefully in the world being saved. They are mischievous. There is no chance of their coming back to the guidance. Therefore, it is necessary to remain away from such people.

No man can live in the world without striving in the Way of God. If any individual will leave the striving, certainly he will become mischievous, because those who shirk their duty from striving, their life cannot be regular and organized. And whose life is not organized, they deserve to be called something other than a mankind, and that name is “wrongdoer, adulterer, fornicator, refractory or corrupt”, that is to say; those who commit inconsistency. So Jihad is the name of an organization’s effort. If this organization is according to the principles; described by God Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), then it is jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah, otherwise it is an attempt in the way of Satan, as it has been explained in Surah Nisaaa’.

Islam is `the name of a human organization, which is organized according to the principles; prescribed by Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). In other words, we can say it as “Belief in God Almighty, Belief in the Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and after that jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah (Striving in the Way of God) that is to say; Instructions for all human beings to live together.

For this purpose, sometimes one have to fight against own false desires and sometimes against those wrongdoers who want to keep the human beings in different groups separately, so that they may achieve their own purpose. This war of both types is called jihaadin-  fii  SabiiLillaah. The idolaters of Arab sowed the seed of dispersion in the human beings during the primary stage of Islam. And at that time, there remained only one form of Jihad for the Muslims. That is to say; strive against the wrongdoers and try to establish a human organization in accord with own strength.

Quran Chapter 9 – 24 (Pt-10, Stg-2) (L-1159) - درس قرآن

Great threat

Chapter Tawbah (Repentance) – Surah – 9)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

24.  Say: If your fathers, and your sons, and your brethren, and your wives, and your tribe, and the wealth ye have acquired, and merchandise for which ye fear that there will no sale, and dwellings ye like are dearer to you than Allah and His Messenger and striving in His Way; then wait till Allah bringeth His command to pass. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.
24.  Qul  ‘in-  kaana  ‘aabaaa-‘ukum  wa  ‘abnaaa- ‘ukum  wa  ‘ikh-waanukum  wa  ‘azwaa-jukum  wa  ‘ashii-ratukum  wa  ‘amwaalu-niq-taraf-tumuuhaa  wa  tijaa-ratun-  takh-shawna  kasaa-dahaa  wa  masaa-kinu  tarzaw-nahaaa  ‘ahabba  ‘ilaykum-mi-nAllaahi  wa  RasuuliHii  wa  jihaadin-  fii  SabiiliHii  fatarab-basuu  hattaa  ya’-tiyAllaahu  bi-AmriH.  WAllaahu  laa  yahdil-qawmal-faasiqiin.

Commentary

‘Aabaaa-‘a – it is plural of ‘abun. ‘Abun means – father. ‘Abnaaa- ‘a – is plural of ‘ibn, which means - son. ‘Ikh-waanun – is plural of ‘akhun, which means – brother. ‘Azwaa-jun – is plural of zawjun. Zawjah means – wife. ‘Ashii-ratun – it aims the tribe, brotherhood, relationship.

‘Iq-taraf-tum – (which you earned), it is a past tense from the word ‘iqtiraafun, which has been derived from the word qaraf. Qaraf means “to earn, to acquire”. ‘Iqtiraafun means – earning by hard labor.

Kasaa-da – (dullness of the market), kasaad means – running not the business properly, fall in sales, market slump.

This verse needs much consideration. It has been described in this verse that the human being forgets God Almighty, the traditions of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and striving in the Way of Allah Almighty due to being entangled in the wrangling of the matters explained in the verse. Such individual should be loosened. However, he shall be punished due to negligence sometime or other.

The word Jihad has been derived from jehd. Jehd means struggle, effort, endeavor, attempt and exertion etc. But at the time of revelation of this verse, the same form of struggle and attempt was felt necessary that the Muslims should fight wrongdoers.

In such time, if there is a dire need of fighting against the evil-livers because all devices of admonishing them are proved useless, then the Muslims should fight collectively and unhesitatingly.

At the end, it is commanded that those people who have set their hearts upon disobedience of God Almighty. Allah Almighty does not show them the Straight Path.
