What is Islam? – 1
Chapter Tawbah (Repentance)
– Surah – 9)
‘A-‘uu-zu Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)
(I seek refuge in Allaah from Satan the outcast)
Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.
(In the name of Allaah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)
It is known from the previous
verses that after believing in God Almighty and the Day of Resurrection, mostly
command of jihaadin- fii SabiiLillaah (Striving in
the Way of God) has been strengthened in Islam. So it is very necessary to
understand that “what is jihaadin- fii SabiiLillaah?,
because understanding the Islam correctly depends on understanding this
command. Some detail about it has been described in previous lessons, but which
command has been given in verse # 23 & 24, from it, all matter is obvious
before the eyes.
It was commanded in verse # 23
of this chapter: You should not have special relationship with your fathers and
brothers if they prefer the infidelity instead of Belief, because there is no
hope from them save it that they prevent you as far as possible from the Way of
God Almighty.
In the verse # 24, it is
commanded: you should keep God Almighty, His last Messenger Muhammad (grace,
glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and jihaadin- fii
SabiiLillaah (Striving in the Way of God) at first priority from the
entire things of the world. Which thing sets you free from above three matters;
is that you should give it up and think about yourself, because those people
who will not leave the worldly matters, they cannot move carefully in the world
being saved. They are mischievous. There is no chance of their coming back to
the guidance. Therefore, it is necessary to remain away from such people.
No man can live in the world
without striving in the Way of God. If any individual will leave the striving,
certainly he will become mischievous, because those who shirk their duty from
striving, their life cannot be regular and organized. And whose life is not
organized, they deserve to be called something other than a mankind, and that
name is “wrongdoer, adulterer, fornicator, refractory or corrupt”, that is to
say; those who commit inconsistency. So Jihad is the name of an organization’s
effort. If this organization is according to the principles; described by God
Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him),
then it is jihaadin- fii SabiiLillaah, otherwise it is
an attempt in the way of Satan, as it has been explained in Surah
Nisaaa’.
Islam is `the name of a human
organization, which is organized according to the principles; prescribed by
Allah Almighty and His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon
Him). In other words, we can say it as “Belief in God Almighty, Belief in the
Last Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and after
that jihaadin- fii SabiiLillaah (Striving in the
Way of God) that is to say; Instructions for all human beings to live together.
For this purpose, sometimes one
have to fight against own false desires and sometimes against those wrongdoers
who want to keep the human beings in different groups separately, so that they
may achieve their own purpose. This war of both types is called jihaadin-
fii SabiiLillaah. The idolaters of Arab sowed the seed of
dispersion in the human beings during the primary stage of Islam. And at that
time, there remained only one form of Jihad for the Muslims. That is to say;
strive against the wrongdoers and try to establish a human organization in
accord with own strength.
