Commentary

Najasun – (unclean), it is a tense of adjective from n-j-s, origin of which is najaasataNajaasata means dirtiness, filth, impurity, to be licentious.

‘Aylatun – (poverty, the vocation of a beggar, hunger, want, indigence, need, and it is also used for the poor and needy. A word “‘ayaal” has been derived from it too. Those all people who depend on an individual for their provisions, and fulfilling their necessities, are called his ‘Ayaal. Such individual remains poor usually. In Arabic language, such person is called ‘Aayl, who is responsible to look after and feed many people, and due to this reason he lives in poverty.

When Infidels of Makkah disclosed; in the beginning by their character and behavior, that as far as possible they will not let the Muslims live, then the Muslims were disappointed from living with them together. After the Conquest of Makkah during 9thAH, it was proclaimed at the occasion of Hajj (Pilgrimage), that admission of Idolaters in the Inviolable Place of Worship at Makkah (Masjidal-Haraam) is forbidden for future. Only Muslims can enter in this Sacred Place.

The Idolaters disclosed their enmity with the Muslims and that their hearts were full of malice, envy and hostility against the Believers without any proper reason. These are such things which destroy the purity of the heart, because those have enmity against the belief and politeness. And in the world, only these both things exist which can purify the mankind and make him clean. Therefore, the Muslims are instructed that they should not let the Idolaters and those, who have evil spirit and bad thoughts, go near Inviolable Place of Worship (the Square Building at Makkah).

After that when it was observed that “the Muslims cannot organize themselves; when they are living with the wrongdoers”, then it was commanded that they should drive out the Idolaters from the entire Arabian territory.
