Quran Chapter 4- 115 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-599) -

Opponents of the Messenger

Suratun-Nisaaa’  (The Women) – Chapter – 4)

BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

115.  And whoso opposeth the Messenger after the guidance (of Allah) hath been manifested unto him, and followeth other than the believer’s way, We appoint for him that unto which he himself hath turned, and expose him unto Hell. A hapless journey’s end.
115.  Wa  many-yushaaqi-qir-Rasuula  mim-  ba’-di  maa  taby-yana  lahul-hudaa  wa  yatta-bi’  gayra  sabii-lil-Mu’-miniina  Nu-wallihii  maa  ta-wallaa  wa  Nuslihii  Jahannam.  Wa  saaa-‘at  masiiraa.

    Commentary

Yushaaqi-qi – (opposes), the origin of this word is mushaaqah, which is made from shaqq. Shaqq means ‘towards, and direction’. Here it signifies ‘making a new path, leaving the path of Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and following the way other than the believer’s way.

Nu-wallihii – (We shall let him go), its origin is tawliit, which means “to appoint someone ruler upon himself, to give something in one’s possession”. Here it has been used for the meanings of ‘to empower’. Tawallii has also been made from the same origin. That is to say; which path he chose.

There is a clear proclamation in this verse about the punishment of such person, who does not obey the commands of the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). Moreover, he becomes ready to oppose Him (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him); particularly in the form that while the Guidance of Allah Almighty has been manifested to him openly and obviously. And he would have certainly known that telling a lie, deceiving and imposture cannot be correct before the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and Allah Almighty is the Protector of Him from deciding wrongfully. He told His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) that the guilty is Ta’-mah, and the Jew Zayd is innocent. After that, it was duty of Ta’-mah that he should be abashed and agreed to the decision of Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him), and adopted the way of believers, had bow his head before the Law of Islam. But he did not do so, but did against the order of Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and leaving the Muslims, chose a separate path.

It is the decision of Allah Almighty for such person that he is free to adopt any path, which he wishes in the world. But after death, when he will return to Us (Allah Almighty), because the Day of Resurrection will surely come, then We will admit him into the Hell. Alas! He did know that the Hell is very hapless place. Nothing will be attainable there for him except anguish, pain, suffering, distress, sorrow and torment, whose bad deeds cause to arrive him at the Hell. May we be protected from that place by Allah Almighty. It has also been known from this verse that the person, who will leave Islam for escaping from the worldly calamities, his abode is the Hell.

Speaking in a low tone - Quran Chapter 4 -114 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-598) -

Quran Chapter 4- 114 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-598) -

Speaking in a low tone

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

114.  There is no good in much of their secret counsels save (in) him who enjoineth almsgiving and kindness and peace-making among the people. And whoso doeth that, seeking the good Pleasure of Allah, We shall bestow on him a vast reward.
114.  Laa  khayra  fii  kasiirim-min-naj-waahum  ‘illaa  man  ‘amara  bi-sadaqatin  ‘aw  ma’-ruufin  ‘aw  ‘is-laahim-bay-nan-naas.  Wa  many-yaf-‘al  zaali-kab-tigaaa-‘a  marzaa-Tillaahi  fa-sawfa  Nu’-tiihi  ‘ajran  ‘aziimaa.

    Commentary

Naj-waa – (secretly consultation), it aims secret counsels and whispering. It has been disliked and prevented in the Holy Qur’an that some persons begin whispering with one another, while they are attending any multitude or congregation.

‘Is-laahun – (peace-making), to make peace among the two persons, who are quarreling with each other, it is from sulah, which means friendship, combination, agreement. It aims ‘to remove mutual wrangling’.

It was habit of some people that they used to say the Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) something in a low, hissing sound in the meeting (multitude). Their intention was that the people should consider them frank and close friends of the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) and respect them. In this verse, they have been exposed to view and the people have been educated about human nature in the best manner. If they act upon this advice then mutual suspicion, bad thoughts and doubts can never be born. The Commands of Holy Qur’an are Rules and Regulations of the highest grades for mutual friendship and good treatment. Those people will remain surely in superior positions in the world, who will abide by these instructions.

It has been described in this verse that the people who associate secretly and whisper in the meetings should not consider that they are saying something good. There is no goodness in this type of conversation. This method of chit chat has a defect in itself that due to conspiring between some persons only, while nobody else is permitted to participate in this speech of a low tone and other people are sitting around, will produce suspicion in their hearts. Particularly in the multitude, if one comes and talks in a low, hissing sound with someone sitting in the meeting, that other members of the multitude may take it that he is hiding something from them, then surely their thought will go worse from his side. And usually it will be considered that certainly he is talking against them. Therefore, such secret counsels are hurtful. There are only three forms when such type of whispering is suitable:

1.    If you want to give something to any needy, then it is better to be quiet instead of saying someone else, so that the needy might not be blushing and disgraced.

2.    If you wish to guide towards the goodness or tell any person about any particular matter, it is also better to speak with him in a low tone, so that he would not be ashamed before the people.

3.    Making peace among the two quarrelsome persons, if this way is adopted to please Allah Almighty and to get His Willingness, then He Commands, “We shall bestow on him a vast reward”.

Glory of the Messenger - Quran Chapter 4 -113 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-597) -

Quran Chapter 4- 113 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-597) -

Glory of the Messenger

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

113.  And had it not been for the Grace of Allah upon thee (Muhammad), and His Mercy, a party of them had resolved to mislead thee, but they will mislead only themselves and they will hurt thee not at all. And Allah has revealed unto thee the Scripture and Wisdom, and taught thee that which thou knewest not. And the Grace of Allah toward thee hath been great.
113.  Wa  law-laa  fazlUllaahi  ‘alayka  wa  RahmatuHuu  la-hammat-taaa-‘ifatum-minhum  ‘any-yuzil-luuk.  Wa  maa  yuzil-luuna  ‘illaaa  ‘anfu-sahum  wa  maa  yazur-ruunaka  min-  shay’.  Wa  ‘anzalAllaahu  ‘alay-kal-Kitaaba  wal-Hikmata  wa  ‘allamaka  maa  lam  takun  ta’-lam.  Wa  kaana  fazlUllaahi  ‘alayka  ‘aziimaa.

    Commentary

Fazlun – (Grace, Bounty, Divine favor), real meaning of fazal is “too much, more, excessive”, that is to say; to give someone anything especially with kindness, which is a special gift, and more than ordinary presents.

Yuzil-luuka – (to mislead you), it is from ‘Azlaal, which means “To push back any person from the Straight Path”.

When we shall connect this verse to our previous lesson, then it will be said as, “The Messenger of Allah Almighty (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) began to realize in His mind, when He listened to the witnesses of the real thief and their oaths for him. He (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) thought that these all people cannot give false evidence. Due to their evidence it would have to be accepted that Ta’-mah is innocent”. But it was not acceptable to Allah Almighty that His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) decide in favor of Ta’-mah and resultantly an innocent person (the Jew) is determined as thief by violence.

It has been described in this verse, “O Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him)! They had made up their minds to get wrong decision duly settled by (misleading) you, but Allah Almighty informed you timely with His special Mercy and Kindness, and let you not determined as such, which was against the dignity of His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him). They would have understood that by misleading you, they would succeed in getting wrong decision in favor of the thief. Do they not know that Your Protector is Allah Almighty? He is Your Saver from being misled. By intending to mislead you, they will never be able to harm You. They have been harming themselves by doing so. Allah Almighty has revealed Holy Qur’an upon You and disclosed upon You the truth. The Grace of Allah Almighty unto You has been great, He will never let you mislead from the Straight Path. He has bestowed upon you so much virtues and excellence, which have been surpassed most. And You have been given more knowledge and wisdom than entire other people. The conch people, who have inexpert knowledge, can never succeed in misleading you (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him).

Reproof and slander - Quran Chapter 4-111 & 112 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-596) -

Quran Chapter 4- 111 & 112 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-596) -

Reproof and slander

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

111.  And whoso committeth sin committeth it only against himself. And Allah is ever Knower, Wise.

112.  And whoso committeth delinquency or sin, then throweth (the blame) thereof upon the innocent, hath burdened himself with falsehood and a manifest sin.
111.  Wa  many-yaksib  ‘isman-  fa-‘innamaa  yak-sibuhuu  ‘alaa  nafsih.  Wa  kaanAllaahu  ‘Aliiman  Hakiimaa

112.  Wa  many-yaksib  khatiii-‘atan  ‘aw  ‘isman-  summa  yarmi  bihii  bariii-‘an-  faqadih-tamala  buh-taananw-wa  ‘ismam-mubiinaa.

Commentary

Yaksibu – (commits), its origin is kasaba and literal meanings are to earn, to commit, to work hard and to act. The subject Kaasib has also come out from it, which means the Doer. Here it has been used for the meanings of ‘to act, to follow and to commit’.

Yarmi - (throws), it is made from Ramii (literal meanings are ‘throwing arrows’). Here it aims ‘to accuse someone falsely’.

A law has been introduced in this verse which needs special attention and is very thoughtful, “If any person will commit intentionally any sin, the punishment of the sin will only be upon the sinner. Only his body and soul will bear the torment and loss, who committed the sin and he would have to suffer the result of the sin. None other person can be punished in his retaliation, who did not participate in committing that sin with him”.

Only such ruler or judge, who doesn’t know about the actual incident (that who committed the sin), can punish any other person, who did not commit the crime. And the supporters of the criminal saved him by providing false evidence and the lawyers by telling a lie. And they caused to punish someone else by setting him to be fixed a criminal (through their attempts) in place of the real sinner. Such ruler or judge, who is unable to conclude correctly and who cannot use his sense soundly, he finalizes the decision immediately, in confusion, blind and unmannerly. Such ruler and judge cannot be called wise. Allah Almighty is the Knower and the Wise. Such injustice is impossible in His Court that the crime is committed by a person but someone else is punished. He can inform His Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) about the real culprit, then what will be useful for the Messenger (grace, glory, blessings and peace be upon Him) to release the thief and fix the blame of theft upon the head of an innocent person?

Moreover, it has been described that if any person commits a crime (little or great), then he throws its blame upon someone else, he increased another crime in addition to his first real crime. Therefore, he will be double sinner, one sin which he committed and the other that blame which he threw upon an innocent person. So he will be given double punishment from the Court of Allah Almighty. Therefore, without acceptance of the sin, repentance and seeking the Forgiveness of Allah Almighty, the criminal has no form of exemption from the Grip and Torment of Allah Almighty.

Asking forgiveness - Quran Chapter 4-109 & 110 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-595) -

Quran Chapter 4- 109 & 110 (Pt-5, Stg-1) (L-595) -

Asking forgiveness

Surah ‘An-Nisaaa’  (Women) – Chapter – 4)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahi minash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

109.  Lo! Ye are they who plead for them in the life of the world. But who will plead with Allah for them on the Day of Resurrection, or who will then be their defender?

110.  And whoso doeth evil or wrongeth his own soul, then seeketh pardon of Allah, will find Allah Forgiving, Merciful.
109.  Haaa-‘antum  haaa-‘ulaaa-‘i  jaadaltum  ‘anhum  fil-hayaatid-dunyaa.  Famany-yu-jaadi-lUllaaha  ‘anhum  Yawmal-Qiyaamati  ‘ammany-yakuunu  ‘alayhim  wakiilaa.

110.  Wa  many-ya’-mal  suuu-‘an  ‘aw  yazlim  nafsahuu  summa  yastag-fiRillaaha  yajiDillaaha  Gafuurar-Rahiimaa.

Commentary

Haaa – this is a word for drawing attention of the hearers before starting address; as we say: Lo, Behold, Attention please etc.

Jaadaltum – (you plead), its origin is jadaal, which has been derived from the word jadala. It means “arguing verbally and pleading”. Jaadaltum and yu-jaadil are from the same origin.

Those people are being asked who support illicit, for instance, “If in the world you caused to succeed any person by pleading and using stratagems, and according to your opinion you arranged a record of stirring deeds to save such person, who was able to be punished severely, made harmonious other people by saying them that it was a Muslim’s matter and his honor was more precious than the opposite i.e. the Jew. If a Muslim is charged with the crime of theft, then he would not be able to show his face anywhere. Therefore, trying to save him as it may be possible. It is the question of our own honor. If once respect has gone, then it cannot be gain again”. But you did not think that the thief did what he did. Now you were going to commit a sin also by supporting him wrongfully and trying to ensnare a person who was innocent against that person who was really guilty. No doubt you did all this in the world by deceiving and telling a lie. But on the Day of Resurrection, when the matter will be produced in the Court of Allah Almighty, then how will you support the wrongdoers there and what will be of your cunning deeds?

You can deceive the rulers and judges of this world by providing them false evidence and lie swearing. On the Doomsday the Ruler will be Allah (God) Almighty and He is the Knower of everybody’s heart. There; you will not be able to save anyone from ignominy through your manual dexterity This advocacy and pleader-ship will not be useful on That Day. Who is such person, who will be lawyer of such people in His Court, who will fix the true as liar and the liar as true?

Then it has been commanded that the sinner cannot escape from punishment of his wicked deeds by the source of impostures and partiality. It is vain imagination. There is only one Way for it that he should seek pardon of Allah Almighty and apologize for his sins after accepting own wrong deeds.
