Coming of the dead back to life
Surah ‘Al-Baqarah (The Cow) – Chapter – 2)
BisMillaahir-Rahmaanir-Rahiim
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
|
72. And (remember) when ye slew a
man and disagreed concerning it and Allah brought forth that which ye were
hiding.
73. So We said: Smite him
with some of it. Thus Allah bringeth the dead to life and
showeth you His portents so that ye may understand.

72. Wa ‘iz
qataltum nafsan-faddaara’-tum fiihaa. WAllaahu
mukhrijum-maa kuntum tak-tumuun.
73. Faqul-Nazribuuhu
bi-ba’-zi-haa. Kazaalika
yuh-Yillaahul-mawtaa, wa Yuriikum
‘Aayaati-Hii la-‘allakum ta’qiluun.

Commentary
Faddaara’-tum – (then you
disagreed, accused/charged one another). This word has been derived from dara-‘a, which also means “to dispute,
to quarrel as well as to off, to evade, to practice delay”. Here it aims “to
quarrel with and accuse one another”.
Summary of the
previous verses has been stated in these verses. As we have discussed formerly
that a person from the Children of Israel was killed but the killer
was not traceable because the doubtful people had begun to charge/accuse one
another.
God Almighty
commanded the Children of Israel that they should sacrifice a cow for
knowing the name of the killer. They evaded. When after making many tricks and
excuses, they were prepared to sacrifice the cow, then God Almighty commanded
them to smite the dead body with a piece of meat of that cow. As soon as, the
piece of meat was smitten to the killed, he returned to life and told the name
and address of his killer. So a great problem was resolved by obeying the
commandments of God Almighty. The killed person expired again after telling
about his murderer.
God Almighty taught
the people also, “It is Omnipotence of Me to bring the dead to life again”. As
the murdered person told about his first life’s incidents after getting life
again, like him, the entire human beings will be brought to life again on the
Day of Resurrection. Then every individual will give evidence against himself
about his own deeds.
These advice and
happenings are being described by Allah Almighty to the entire human beings, so
that they should think about them and correct their lives. We should learn from
the happenings and incidents of previous nations, and get it as warning for
us.
