Remaining part of previous story

Chapter ‘Al-‘A’raaf (The Heights) – Surah – 7)

‘A-‘uu-zu  Billaahiminash-Shay-taanir- Rajiim.
(I seek refuge in God from Satan the outcast)

Bis-Millaahir-Rah-maanir-Rahiim.

(In the name of God, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

164.  And when a community among them said: Why preach ye to a folk whom Allah is about to destroy or punish with an awful doom. They said: In order to be free from guilt before your Lord, and that haply they may ward off (evil).
164.  Wa  ‘iz  qaalat  ‘ummatum-min-hum  lima  ta-‘izuuna  qaw-ma-NIllaahu  muhlikuhum  ‘aw  mu-‘azzibuhum  ‘azaaban-  shadiidaa.  Qaaluu  ma’-ziratan  ‘ilaa  Rabbikum  wa  la-‘allahum  yattaquun.

Commentary

Ta-‘izuuna – (you preach), it is an aorist tense which has been made from va’z. Va’z means “to explain someone right for his good-will.

Ma’-ziratan – this word has the same meanings as of ‘uzr and it is another form of that word. ‘Uzr means “the proof of innocence, faultlessness”. Here it aims “to produce the proof of blamelessness” for which, another word is ‘etizar. On other occasions, the meanings of this word come as “to accept the proof” too.

When the people of ‘Iilah saw that huge numbers of fish come on the day of Sabbath, but on other days, they do not come so much, then they began to think: We should contrive in such a way that “the snake dies and the sticks even not broken”. There should not be disobedience openly; even then, we may possess the fish more than enough.

The people along them found out a trick that by digging large drains, they brought the water of the river and poured into the ponds. When they used to open the water of the river into the ponds, the fish used to come with water. On Saturday, they used to close the mouths of the drains. Then they used to catch the fish from ponds easily on Sunday.

The wise people said: It is a trick only. It means hunting clearly on the day of Sabbath. Fear Allah Almighty and don’t disobey Him. They caused to understand them for some days. When they saw that those unruly people do not listen to them, some of them became silent after being frustrated, but others continued to convince them.

It is commanded that it would be in the remembrance of the Jews that one community gave up causing to understand the disobedient people being frustrated and said to them who continued their duty to explain: Why do you try to explain those obstinate people? They will abstain never from their absurdities. Why do you try willing or not willing? It seems that either Allah Almighty will destroy them at once due to their stubbornness or He will cause to suffer them from any severe wrath.

Those people who were causing to understand; said: We shall not give up preaching them so that we may produce the proof of our faultlessness before Allah Almighty that; we tried our best to perform our duty, but they did not accept. We are blameless in this matter. So, we shall be free from guilt before Allah Almighty and be saved from His wrath with them.

In addition to this, we think that haply the fear is produced in their hearts due to our sayings and they abstain from their wicked deeds. It is not lawful to be frustrated in any condition from the Mercy of Allah Almighty.
